"Which does she do better, offense or defense?" Ed directed his question towards Al.
"She does offense well." I answered him."She does both pretty well, but yeah, she's better at offense." Al confirmed."Alright, Zerena. You'll be with Ed, Josiah, and I on the offensive team. Zach, Isiah, and Al are our defensive group. We'll show you how we fight and you just try to keep up." Curtis told me, and I swear if I didn't just want to d*ck punch him right then.In Curtis' mind the defensive group is like a shield. He has them in a line before us ready to throw their shadows up in defense, while we stand behind them. When it's time to attack the defensive group slips behind momentarily while the other group hits the opponent hard. I don't particularly like this plan. I feel everyone should be better rounded and able to fight back if needed. It's unusual for me to take orders on how I should fight. I hadn't realized how much I don't like noI woke up in that familiar small cot with green fabric around me. Isiah and Zach sat on the cots beside me with bandages around their foreheads. I felt a sudden wave of nausea hit me and I grabbed the bucket on the small end table beside me. I emptied the contents of my stomach and then some. "Gross." Isiah wrinkled his nose, when I laid back on the bed again. I was worn out, and my body felt so cold inside. The darkness had lingered inside me and chilled me to my core. I need Kiran, I need his warmth and his comfort. "Well she is pregnant." Zach added. "We're lucky she didn't puke while fighting." "That's not why I threw up." I snapped. "It's fine. We get it. We're not judging you for fighting while pregnant. Not everyone has that nurturing side." Isiah added. I sat up on the bed and quickly punched him in the throat. That should keep him quiet for a while. "Shut up." I narrowed my eyes on him. "Still as feisty as ever, I see." Al came into the tent with a smile of amusement.
Percy's P.O.V. Zerena got us all here with no problem, as expected. I could feel the cold on my skin still from the shadows, but it was swept away by the warm breeze. I could smell the salt of the ocean in the air. The sun was setting over the horizon and reflecting brightly off the water. It was really very beautiful, and honestly the first time any of us have seen the ocean. Even Kellan hasn't seen the ocean and that's gotta be the most fu.cked up thing I've heard for a siren. I looked out at each boat docked on the pier, finding the old boat with slightly rusted paint. It was at the end of the pier, docked away from the others. I knew it was his, having seen it in a vision on the way here. I see the many ways this can play out and we have to be careful what we agree to. It'll be up to me to make sure we make the right choice. "It's the last boat on the pier. Let me do the talking while we are there. Don't agree to anything he says unless I say it's fine." I told them all. I expe
Zerena's P.O.V.It took me a while to find a shadow that led to the right kingdom. Eventually I found one at the base of a tree that looked like it was open in the center with a large tunnel inside of it. We emerged in front of it and I could smell a sweet maple scent coming from it. I thought it smelled nice and comforting. "God, what is that terrible smell?" Emerson wrinkled his nose stepping away from the tree. "It doesn't smell bad to me." Tally furrowed her brow at him. "Come on, let's go find where the queen lives." I told them heading towards the kingdom. Its houses were all built around the trees, and way off the ground. How the hell do they get up there? I am pretty sure elves don't fly. "Halt!" A man yelled at us. He was dressed in a short sleeve green tunic with brown tight pants and a sheathed sword on his hip. He had long blonde hair and piercing blue eyes. Jesus he was handsome as fu.ck. "Who are you? State your business." He eyed us suspiciously. "We're here to see
I felt myself being whisked away from my body and pulled to a large tree in the distance. The tree was as large as a skyscraper if not larger and about as thick as 2 football fields. It had large roots that seemed to connect to all the trees around it. Rain sat the base of it, her hand touching its trunk. I was pulled beside her, my hand in hers now. "Let's see your past." She smiled, closing her eyes and muttering something to the tree. Figures appeared beside us, like it was happening right there right now. There stood Alester at the black market. He had a card ready to bid. A crying baby was placed on the center of the stage. It was announced that the baby was a shadow weaver of one of the original families. "This is you when you were one. What a dark past you hold. Please tell me that the man that bought you is dead now." Rain told me, squeezing my hand. "He ran away before I could kill him." Rain growled, letting me know she wasn't just an elf, but a wolf too. "If I find him
We found out that Tally's parents were killed in a robbery. They owned a jewelry store and had been burglarized. Tally was in the back room playing when it happened. The robber's had found her and took her too. They sold her in the black market as well. She was only three at the time. Tally shrugged it off, like knowing her parents were dead didn't phase her. Kellan went next, a slightly determined look on his face. Kellan's mom had taken him out on land for the first time since he was born. She wanted to go on a stroll and feed the ducks at the park. She was attacked by a kraken on the way, but she managed to save Kellan. She killed the kraken, but died alongside it. Kellan was found by a bounty seeker and he took Kellan straight to Alester. Kellan's dad believes him to be dead. He lives in the Pacific ocean off the coast of south California.Emerson didn't need to see his past as Everett had shared everything with him already, so all that was left was Percy. He was scared, I could
I woke up at 7 in Kiran's arms. I smiled and nuzzled my head in his chest. This felt so right, waking up beside him, feeling his warmth around me. I kissed his lips and he groaned, smiling in our kiss. "Good morning, gorgeous." His voice sounded hoarse, freshly awoken. "Good morning." I smiled at him. "Breakfast?" He asked and I nodded my head. "Yes please. Fruit salad?" I wanted something refreshing and light. "I can manage that." He kissed my forehead before getting off the bed. I got up too, but stopped dead in my tracks as a strong wave of nausea hit me. I ran to the bathroom and Kiran was right behind me looking utterly perplexed. I barely made it to the toilet on time as I started to throw up the acid in my stomach. My throat was burning and I had a God awful aftertaste in my mouth. Tell me that I do not have morning sickness right now. Tell me I'm not that unlucky. Kiran was holding my hair up and rubbing my back as I continued to hurl. "You okay?" He asked me when I fin
Kiran's P.O.V. I hate how often she has to leave me still. We both thought we would have so much more time together now that she was free of Alster. Seems our hopes were set too high. Granted, we do spend more time together than before, but it's still not enough. No time with her feels like enough. I sighed knowing I need to get back to work. I can't keep putting off my responsibilities. I've already called in yesterday. Everett told me to spend time with Zerena and not worry about working, but that doesn't seem right. I can't just take his money for free. I need to work. I like to work. So instead of a night shift at a bar, he's told me to come work on the cars at the pack lands. At least this way Zerena and my schedule will match better. I'll be quitting at the gas station too. I don't need to work two jobs now that mom isn't stealing my money all the time. I grabbed my keys and headed out to Betty. She's on her last leg and I know I'll need to get a new vehicle before the babies
Kiran's P.O.V.I worked on a few more cars, easily accomplishing my tasks. I've learned a lot working on Betty through the years. It made working on other cars easier, although I did have to G****e some diagrams as not all cars are laid out the same, especially the fuel pump. "Let's go phoenix boy. We're closing shop, you can finish this tomorrow." Jay wrapped his arm over my shoulder again and pulled me towards the locker room. I sighed, really wanting to finish now, but I knew this would take a couple hours more to finish. I let Jay guide me and we changed and washed off. I still had some oil on the beds of my fingernails that I couldn't seem to get off no matter how hard I washed, part of the job I guess. "Follow me." Jay led the way outside and into the tree line near the garage. The tree roots were out to get me, I had to watch my step so I wouldn't fall and make an ass out of myself. Jay walked quickly making it harder for me to keep up and stay upright, somehow I made it. I
I traveled to the spot in the yard, not believing my eyes from that distance. I approached the figure in the moonlight cautiously. He turned when he heard me step on a twig. That long black hair and dark eyes met mine. He smiled widely at me, swooning my heart the way he use to. “Percy?” I cried. “Hey, Zae.” “You as.shole.” I went to punch him but my hand went right through him. He laughed at me. “I figured you’d try to hit me. Sorry I don’t have a body anymore to hit.” He shook his head at me. “I’m sorry, Zae.” “You should be. You have no idea how much this has hurt. Damit Perc, you should have told me. I would have stopped it!” I yelled at him, tears flowing out of me like a waterfall. “You couldn’t have. Trust me, I didn’t want to leave our Ares, but it was the only way.” He sighed. His transparent hand reached for my face. I could feel him the same way I feel the air across my cheek. “Our Ares could really use a visit from you.” I told him. “I only have one more of
8 years later“Happy birthday Ares!” We all yelled, trying to surprise him, but who were we kidding he already knew.“I knew you wouldn’t forget.” He smiled at us all. “Auggie said everyone had forgotten about my birthday and that’s why no one had said it to me yet.”“Augustus Daimen Barlowe! Did you really tell your brother that?” Kiran scolded him.“I thought if he believed it he would actually be surprised.” Augustus explained.“I’ll talk to him, keep the party going.” Kiran told me, kissing my temple, before pointing to the door to let Augusutus know to walk out.I hugged Ares, holding him tightly for a long moment before he complained.“Mom.”“Sorry
Topher had already finished here. He was wrapping the elders up. We don’t plan on killing them or imprisoning them. They just won’t be in power anymore. I know they won’t like it, but with only a few elders they won’t be able to go against a whole army. We’ll be changing a lot around here, starting with the parties and classist shi.t. Obviously the higher class will hate it, but since they are few, I’m not worried about it. “Everything go well in the North?” Topher asked me, wrapping his arm around my waist and kissing my temple. “Easy as pie.” I assured him. “Yeah, especially after she went all devil on us.” Isaiah smirked. “You did?” Topher asked, obviously not liking the fact. He didn’t like me using that side of myself much. “Yes, just for a little while. I’m fine, don’t worry.” I assured him. He looked at me for a while, assessing me, before nodding his head. He kissed my forehead now, letting his lips linger there. He let his arm wrap around me further, until his hand
2 months later.“It’s gotta be simultaneous.” I told them all, through a mass shadow message. I stared down the elder’s building with group 1 at my side. I decided to take down the north elders, while Topher led the west rebellion group. We had a good amount of people with us in each colony. Our civil war begins. Only it won’t be a war, it’ll be one battle, and we will come out victorious.‘We’re ready in the south.’ Felix, the leader of the south, responded with his own shadow message.‘Say the word and we’ll attack.’ Helena from the East sounded ready to b
It’s been a month now since the battle with Alester. Percy’s funeral hit me hard, breaking me further. I almost couldn’t bring myself to go. Kiran and Topher dragged my as.s there, not giving me a choice in the matter. I saw Allie, her beautiful innocent eyes were puffy from all the crying. She admitted to me that she knew what was going to happen. She told me Percy had asked her not to tell anyone, and that he had set things up for Ares. Apparently Electra had been helping him see into the future. She admitted that she would be joining him soon too. It was almost poetic…almost. It’s so damn heart breaking. I am not sure there is a heart left in me. It feels so hollow in my chest, like it’s run away, unable to take the pain anymore. The only times I felt a remnant of it, were when I was with August or Ares, or when I’d look at Jesse’s ultrasound. She’s not shadow kissed like Augustus. She’s like Ares, in my normal womb. Topher and Kiran did their best at trying to cheer me up, or a
Zerena’s P.O.V.No! God No!Percy’s lifeless body laid at Alester’s feet, his eyes open, staring at Ares. I kept waiting to see him heal. Kept waiting to see him move, to get back up and pummel Alester before him. I watched him for a while, completely dumbfounded. This isn’t real, this isn’t happening. I haven’t lost Kiran and Percy just now. Kiran will come back with his Phoenix, and Percy will heal. They have to. They can’t leave me.A thick sadness was beginning to envelope me. I felt the cold seeping into my bones, as the darkness began to over take me, feeding on my depression. I felt it turning all the heartache in me into an unbridled rage. I looked at Alester now, who had Percy’s heart still in his hand, burning it to Ash befo
Percy's P.O.V. Zae had made her announcement to everyone. I thought it was sweet of her to go along with Topher's plan to have an announcement party. This is how it should have gone. A baby with only the person she chose and not because some crazy bastard gave her a sea witch's potion. I watched as everyone congratulated her. She actually accepted the hugs. God, I hope she continues to open up after I'm gone. I wrote her a letter too. I put it where I knew she'd find it after my funeral. I hope she takes the advice I wrote for her. Everyone was having fun. I watched as Zae's people all intermingled. It was like watching the many parts of Zea's life come together beautifully. Eventually, the party had started to whine down. The first to leave was group 1, followed by Zea's parents, and then Tate and Alara with her twin, Alexis, plus Maple left. Kellan had decided to stay a while longer to talk to Dex about water portalling. Rain and her mate, Nate, left as well. The only ones he
Zerena’s P.O.V.“How does this look?” Kiran asked, when he finished the icing on the cake.“Looks great!” I smiled at him, kissing his cheek. “Thank you, Kiran.”I was actually excited for today. I never thought I would be a big announcement kind of gal, but I think that I am. I really like the idea of surprising everyone today. Topher and I have been over the moon about our baby girl. I can’t wait to share the news with everyone. I am so very lucky to have Percy. I don’t think I would have noticed I was pregnant for at least another month. I am also so grateful that he has saved me time with naming all these children. Already knowing their names and their genders has been very convenient.
Percy’s P.O.V.Dearest Ares,I know you’re going through a hard time right now. It’s hard to be in love with someone who doesn’t feel the same way as you. I felt this way about your mother for the longest time. I know it is difficult, especially to watch them be happy with someone else. I promise you, it will get better. You will find your mate soon, and the pain you are feeling will be a distant memory.Stay by her side, fight through the pain, my son. She will need you when your brother inevitably breaks her heart. It will hurt, but you’ll have to help fix them in order to find your own happiness. I know you have a great heart. I can already see how morally grounded you are. You will make the right decision. I have faith in you.&nb
