Calvin’s POV

“What’s the matter?” Becky’s concerned voice came after me as I entered our bedroom. Without sparing her a glance or a nod of acknowledgement, I barged into the bathroom, banging the door shut behind me.

I hated lies. I hated liars.

Today, Becky was found to be one. I loved her so much, but she didn't tell me the truth. I found out about it in court. It was pathetic.

As I stood under the showerhead, I couldn't help but wonder why she might have done that. Why did she have to lie about who was driving the car and why did she have to frame Cassie in a murder case? Why did she hate her so much? Did that mean that Penelope had lied too? But why would she?

Cassie’s POV I looked up at the tall building with a sigh.It was my first day.I noticed that there was a Starbucks located beneath the office. Since I had some time to spare, I went in to get a fresh cup of mocha. Instead of sitting inside, I decided to take a stroll in the small park area outside the building. Maybe it was because I’ve been away from work for so long, I felt a bit uneasy to enter the office building. When it was time, I finally mustered up the courage to go inside. Saving me a trip to the HR, Enzo slipped in my identity card this morning, which granted me hassle-free entry into the building. Even though I told him that everything would just follow the process and I was confident I could get through all the interviews, Enzo said we didn’t need all those complicated steps. I went along with his arrangement, after all, it was his good intention.I went straight up to my floor and navigated through the throng of people who were standing in the gaps between the cubicle

I stared at the computer screen in horror. It was filled with red errors.I scrolled through my work in disbelief. This was the worst feedback I have ever received. I can’t be that bad.. Until.. When I took the call, I realized that it was Patrick calling me.“Meet me in my office.”Shit. “O-okay.”I quickly went to his office. I knocked on the door and pushed it open. I was having one of those dreams where you are aware of it.I was back in my prison cell, preparing myself for bed when I heard someone opening my cell door. When I looked over my shoulder to see who it was, I was instantly knocked down. I found myself on the floor in an instant and a faceless man was towering over my figure.I tried to scream for help, but nobody came. He caught my hands and put them above my head, and using his other hand, he tried to lift my shirt. I screamed in horror and jumped from my dream. When I woke up, I realized that I was panting and Enzo was patting my back. The TV screen froze and Enzo turned the lights on.“Cassie!” He said in worry, “What th

The next week at the office was the same drill, and before I knew it, it was the weekend.I couldn't believe I lasted an entire week here, from having no idea how I was doing to gaining some foundation somehow. Emma was patient with me as I got the basics right and I eventually started working by myself, rarely needing her help.Through the week, Emma and I developed a great bond. She was proving to be my kind of a person, and since she wasn’t very close to any of her other colleagues, she was soon to accept me into her life too. Although she was technically my senior, she never made me feel that way, nor did she treat me like I was below her in rank. Because of this, we instantly clicked.Patrick was surprised with us too. He noticed that we were hav

Much to my dismay, Emma was called for a series of meetings right after her lunch with the boss, so I couldn’t catch up with her later. Right when she got done, Patrick called me into his cabin for some work which lasted for almost half an hour. By the time I returned, Emma had already left.‘Sorry that I had to leave. I was too tired. I’ll fill you in about everything on Monday.’ - Emma sent a message.I smiled before typing her a response. ‘Sure thing! Have a great weekend!’I was waiting in the lobby of the building after having a great day at work. Enzo texted me in the evening that we would be done with work at the same time, so we could travel together today. As promised, Enzo arrived at six ‘o clock, looking rather energetic at the end of the day. “Someone had an easy day at work.” I said as he came to stand beside me. He frowned, “You didn’t?” “I’m afraid not.” I said as we headed outside. We noticed that Enzo’s car was already waiting for us. Once we got into the back s

“Ready?” He asked once he was done taking my appearance in. I nodded, slightly underwhelmed with his response. I was taken aback with my thoughts. Was I disappointed? But why? Was I looking for a compliment from him? That’s so strange!Brushing the thoughts away, I said, “Yes. Let’s go.”I couldn’t understand why I sensed a tension between us the entire ride to the club. The ride was eerily quiet, and I didn’t make any effort to kill the silence. Something about him seemed different today. It was perhaps because it was the first time that I was seeing him like this; so informally dressed and ready to let himself loose. I never imagined that he could be fun as he was always a workaholic for me. That had to be it, I thought. Once we reached our destination, I was amazed at the place. It was magnificent. I had never seen anything quite like it. “Damn,” I said, sighing out loud. “It’s better inside,” Enzo said as he came to stand behind me. Placing his hand on my arm, he nudged me fo

Chapter 88: ClaimCassie’s POV I watched as the printed papers fell from the machine. They were neatly piling up on each other until the machine abruptly stopped. I pressed the power button but it didn’t restart. I frowned. What was the problem? I tried to reboot the system once again but it didn’t help. Annoyed, I banged on the machine so it would work. But it didn’t help. I was going to do that once again when a hand reached toward it from behind me. I turned around to see Enzo appear. He grabbed the wires and did something. All of a sudden, the machine started working again. My face flushed. Clamping her eyes shut, I started speaking. “Sorry,” I muttered and watched the papers stack up once again. “What are those papers?” He asked. “A code.” I put them all in a while and was about to leave. Enzo’s POVIt was past ten o’clock but Cassie still didn’t come home. Where was she? After lunch, I did not see her. Even while leaving, the receptionist informed me that Cassie had left work at six thirty. I assumed that she had gone home without me. I was wrong. When I came home, there was no one.I realized she must have gone to see Calvin since she was expecting him today. Angry, I decided not to call her.I cooked dinner for myself and ate it alone. The clock struck eleven when I was done cleaing up after myself. I was getting worried now. Where the hell was she? As I looked out the window, I noticed that the rain increased. Cassie’s POVEnzo came to join us for lunch, but once he saw me, he walked away.I did not understand why Enzo was behaving this way. Was he still angry with me? But no, it didn't look like anger. It looked like he was hurt. Like he was disappointed with me. But why? What have I done to hurt him? I had to make things right with him soon. Things couldn't be this way. I will talk to him tonight. For now, I will let him walk away. The rest of the lunch was boring with Enzo. I remained a mute spectator. I was hardly interested in what everyone had to say. After lunch, I found a disappointing email waiting for me at my desk. ‘I can’t come to the office. I’m too busy. Meet me at Millard’s cafe at 7 pm. I will be waiting for you there.’ - Calvin Anderson. I sighed. So he was not coming. The entire day I was waiting anxiously for his arrival. All of it for nothing!‘Thanks for the heads up. Enzo’s POV “You did what?” Leo’s voice boomed into the phone. I winced, pulling the phone away from my face for a brief second. “Yeah, you heard me.” “Wait a minute,” He said, “She made a small mistake in the document and you scolded her for that in front of everyone? Man, what is wrong with you?” “I don’t know, Leo.” I said, massaging my temples. “It’s just that… the case was important to me. And I was already in a bad mood since morning. Losing the client added to the injury. Out of anger, I dumped all my frustrations on her. And now I regret it.” “You better regret it, Enzo. This is the last thing you should be doing to a woman you fancy. I mean, she’s probably never going to talk to you after this. There go your chances of wooing her.” I widened my eyes. Was he right? Did I permanently blow my chances?“Shit, Leo. I made a huge mistake.” I said, “What do I do now? What if she never talks to me ever?”“You can find out by one way.
