An hour later, they were done with dinner and the sisters were in their room sitting on their beds. They were changed into their night dresses and could bring themselves to stop talking about the news the queen just brought. Loque Bella was marrying Prince Callum.
“Goodness gracious I can’t believe I’m going to be a princess,” Loque Bella said.
“Princess darling you’re going to be a queen, queen of Hampshen,” Miro said.
“Queen Loque Bella,” Kima said and they chuckled.
“Oh gosh I am so nervous, I can’t believe I’m actually going to marry the prince. Me, oh dear, what if I muck it up?” Loque Bella asked.
“You are not going to muck it up,” Ida said.
“I know nothing about being queen. I can't even handle you lot what more an entire kingdom of all sorts of people.”
“You’re going to learn,” Miro said.
“What if I make so many mistakes?”
“It’s fine, making mistakes is part of growing up and of learning. So long as you learn from the mistakes you make then you’re going to be just fine,” Ida said.
“That’s right, just stay true to the sweet, kind soul you are and you are going to be just fine,” Kima said.
“Gosh I am not worthy of being with a prince, how did such a thing ever come to happen to me,” Loque Bella said.
“It’s destiny,” Miro said.
“Right, the prince is obviously your meant to be,” Kima said. “Your lives are so different and in many different lives your paths would never cross but they have because the two of you are meant to be together.”
“Oh there’s no two ways about it. Princes never marry girls like that, we can’t even afford to dream dreams like that but here you are set to marry wealthy and super handsome Prince Callum, if this is not destiny at work here then destiny does not exist,” Ida said.
“Absolutely,” Miro agreed. “And with you being madly in love with him, oh gosh this is like the dreamiest of dreams coming true,” she then said and they chuckled.
"Oh come on I wasn't the only one madly in love with him, you lot were too."
"No we weren't, we liked him but you, you were on a whole other level," Miro said.
"By yourself," Kima agreed. "I don't think there's any other girl in this kingdom who loves the prince the way you do."
"Oh hush down, you make it seem like I'm obsessed with him."
"Yes you are," Ida, Kima and Miro said and they laughed.
"Especially after that little encounter you had with him in the forest," Ida said.
"Oh goodness, you mean the perfect way we first met," Loque Bella said and gave out a hearty sigh. "I have gone back to that day every day since the day it happened. I always go down to the stream to watch the water and I'm always by myself there but that day it was different. He showed up and in an instant my entire world lit up," Loque Bella said and went back to the very day.
Loque Bella was sitting by the banks of the stream watching the water just like she did whenever she was done with her chores and smiled at how beautifully the sun reflected on the water and made it sparkle.
Just then someone walked out of the trees and she looked at him; it was Prince Callum and he walked up to the water and threw his head forward giving a heavy sigh; rubbing his eyes a little even. Loque Bella stood up and turned to him; knowing she should say something but not sure what. She froze staring at him as inside her heart was carried away like dandelions in the wind. She had always fancied him but she had never before met him and now he was standing no more than three meters away from her, Loque Bella's breath was taken away.
Lifting his head up and seeing something at the corner of his eyes Prince Callum then turned to his to the side and saw her standing there.
"Oh dear I am so sorry, I had no idea anyone was out here," Prince Callum said and she bowed to him.
"It's alright, I'll just go and leave you be," she said and began walking away.
"No no please." She stopped and turned to him. "There's no need for you to do that. There's plenty of room out here for the both of us."
"It's alright your highness I can leave."
"Please don't go. I found you here if anyone should go it is me."
"Oh absolutely not, you're the prince, you have more right to be here a lot more than I do," she said.
"And you are a part of this kingdom's people, you have that right too."
"Yes but . . ."
"Please stay, I'd feel terrible if you left," he said.
"I wouldn't want to disturb you."
"You wouldn't be. I mean I did come here for the quiet but the company would be nice. That's if you don't mind sitting with me?"
"I . . . I should go," Loque Bella said.
"You need not be frightened by me. I am but a person just like you."
"No you're not. You're a prince and I'm a nobody."
"Nobody, that's a strong word," he said.
"It means . . ."
"I know what it means. I just don't think it's kind for you to refer to yourself as that. Just because you don't have what other people have doesn't mean you're a nobody. No one's a nobody." She looked down and he took it as an opportunity to really look at her; her black as night hair curling down her shoulders and back and her soft skin looking like it glowed under the sunlight. "What is your name?"
"My name is Loque Bella," she lifted her head and answered; her brown eyes piercing his heart like the sun through dawn.
"Loque Bella, that is a beautiful name."
"Thank you."
"And I am Prince Callum, pleasure to meet you," he said.
"The pleasure is all mine," she said and they shared a warm smile; as she got even more lost in his face that was simply glorious. His ocean blue eyes sparkling like diamonds in the sky and his wide smile warming her up inside like a warm fire on a cold night.
A moment later, they were sitting by the large rocks by the stream talking; so comfortable with each other they were sitting quite close and were even laughing.
"What did you do then?" Loque Bella asked.
"Nothing, I just walked away and we never spoke about it ever again," Prince Callum responded and they laughed on. "Very interesting the things that happen in the palace."
"Oh I bet."
"What about you, what's the strangest thing about you?" he asked.
"Oh wow um . . . The night."
"What about the night?"
"I don't go out at night," she said.
"Sometimes or ever?"
"Ever."
"Why not?" Prince Callum asked.
"When I was younger I snuck out of the house at night and I got lost. They didn't find me for only fifteen minutes but they were longest and scariest fifteen minutes of my life. It was so dark, pitch black, I couldn't see anything. I thought I was moving closer to the house but I was moving further from it. I wanted to scream but my voice couldn't come out; I was scared to make a sound because I felt like there was something out there with me, watching me, and that if I screamed then it would know where I was and come and get me. I heard it growl and I remember I got so scared I froze. I wanted to run but I couldn't. I was so scared all I did was just stand there. And then it attacked me and I screamed. It bit into my arm and started to drag me away but father came to my rescue. He chased it away, picked me up in his arms and took me home. And just like that I hated the night. The scars and memories of that night haunted me like a nightmare that wouldn't go away and I never went out at night ever again."
"Goodness Loque Bella, I am so sorry."
"It's alright, we all have our issues," she said.
"What was it?"
"I don't know. That's what makes the nightmares so terrfying, is that something attacked me out there . . . And I have no idea what it was."
"And just like that I never stepped another foot into the night ever again," Loque Bella said."Oh my Loque Bella I am so sorry," Prince Callum said."I don't even like to look into the night through the window. My family knows it too. We close the curtains and lock the doors just when the sun is going down and then we all stay in until the sun comes back up again.""Wow, what happened that night really changed your life.""It did. Now just that the mere sight of the sun setting in the sky brings a coldness to my skin," she said."Have you ever tried to face your fear?""Go out into the night? No. The thought of it shrinks me back to that little girl and I get scared all over again. I know I should do something about it, I'm a big girl for goodness sake, I can't be afraid of the dark. I wake up every morning feeling brave to take on anything but when the sun begins to go down, I become that little girl and all the bravery I had leaves me and
Two days later, father and his daughters went to the palace to meet with Queen Roselyn and Prince Callum for lunch. They were sitting down by the large table in the dining hall enjoying a wide variety of foods laid out on the table, as the guards stood spread out against the walls and at the door. “Thank you for having us your majesty,” father said. “Oh please the pleasure is all mine,” Queen Roselyn said. “And I must say you all look so wonderful,” she then said. “Yes you do,” Prince Callum said, with his eyes glued on Loque Bella. He knew of her beauty but with her hair bundled up opening her face and her navy blue dress complimenting how her skin shined underneath the light of the chandeliers, he was completely taken. “Thank you,” the girls said slightly bowing their heads. Loque Bella looked at Prince Callum and finding him looking at her, butterflies flooded her tummy and she looked down smiling to herself. He too smiled to himself and they carri
The following day and as planned Loque Bella and Prince Callum went to the stream to have a picnic; sitting on a blanket and enjoying delicious treats whilst enjoying the lovely day. They spent hours out there and in those hours they talked and got to know more about each other, deepening the bond that came to life the first day they met. They talked about how different they grew up and discovered that even though they lived two totally different lives they had so much in common. They talked about their lost parents; Loque Bella's mother and Prince Callum's father and shared wonderful memories about them. Prince Callum shared all the beautiful places he had travelled to and promised to take her to see each one and even took the opportunity to give her a gift he specifically had made for her; a small white box nicely wrapped with a pink ribbon. "What is this?" Loque Bella asked. "Open it," Prince Callum said and she removed the ribbon and pulled the li
Minutes later Loque Bella and her sister bridesmaids were ready to leave for the church. Covered with the veil falling over her face, she was helped into her white and flower decorated wedding carriage by her sisters and together they rode down the road to the church; with the village people, men, women and even children, standing in the sides of the road waving to the carriage and throwing petals into the air and Loque Bella inside the closed carriage waving back at them. A moment later they arrived at the church and Loque Bella's sisters helped her out of the carriage and up the steps of the church where father was standing nicely put together in a brown suit waiting for her. He saw her and his eyes immediately began to water. "My love," father said. "Hello father," Loque Bella said and they shared a warm hug. "Oh my goodness, it's like looking at an angel. My love, you look so beautiful." "Thank you father." "You are the most beautiful bride I have ever seen," he said looking
The fayagan breathed out a black flames to the people and seeing the flames coming straight for them they ducked and the flames passed above them. It breathed on and the heat of the flames caused them to scream even louder as the walls, the ceiling and the double door caught fire and the windows burst; scattering the broken pieces into the streets and immediately startling the people that were waiting outside to see the married couple. Inside, the people had their heads down as just then the fayagan stopped breathing fire and looked down at Loque Bella; also on the floor and with her head low. It then gave out another spine chilling squeal and grabbed Loque Bella. It held her firm in its huge clawed hand that almost completely covered her and then leaped off the floor and flew out, flapping its massive wings and creating winds that raised the dust and debris of the broken wall off the floor and into the air, blinding their sight as the fagayan flew off further into the distance. "Loqu
Back in Hampshen, Prince Callum, Queen Roselyn, Mr. Braun and his daughters were in the queen's throne room talking about what just happened. Queen Roselyn was sitting on her throne with Prince Callum standing next to her and Mr. Braun and his daughters were standing before them. The throne room had two thrones all the way at the end of the large room; a throne for him and a bigger one for her, portraits on the walls of the queen and prince as well as the many kings and queens that had ruled Hampshen in the previous years, decorative pillars holding up ornaments and a red carpet that ran from the double door all the way to the two thrones that were sitting on a slightly elevated platform. "What is going on Mr. Braun?" Prince Callum asked. "What just happened?" Mr. Braun looked to his daughters and them at him and then back at the prince with his heart the heaviest it had ever been; whatever it was that had him looking like that it wasn't good. "Loque Bella is very special," Mr. Br
"I must protect her from the night, what does that mean?" Mr. Braun asked. "Fayagans. The fayagans of Monteg. Ever since they sensed that I was carrying the moon essence inside of me they have been coming after me. They fly the night searching for me and have burnt down so many villages just to get me but I have been escaping. This time I escaped barely but I had to keep moving, for her. I had to survive for her. And when she comes to be you must protect her from them," Hralda said. "They must not get their hands on her." "What are fayagans?" Kima asked. "They are vicious large winged creatures that are after her power. They want her because of her power." "What is she?" Miro asked. "She's a moon essence. A healing spirit that gets its power from the full moon. And they want that power. They will do anything and kill anyone to get it, you must protect her from them. Please. If they get their hands on her they will kill her." "Do not wo
Back in Hampshen Prince Callum was in the dining hall getting his weapons ready for the journey ahead. He sharpened and shined his long sword, the arrow heads for his bow and knives.Mr. Braun walking down the hallway stopped in front of the double door that led into the dinning hall and walked in as the prince carried on."I know I should have said something to you but it was our family secret and in order to keep her safe we had to keep it. I'm so sorry your highness," Mr. Braun said."Mr. Braun please, there is no reason for you to apologize. You did what you needed to do to protect her and your family and I respect you for that," Prince Callum answered."But I didn't protect her. The fayagan came and took her, I failed.""You did not fail Mr. Braun. She is still alive and we will get her back. No one has failed at anything.""What if they have already . . . ," Mr. Braun said but was interrupted."Nothing. They have done nothing to
Back in the snowy forest of Monteg, Prince Callum was sitting on the ground holding Loque Bella's cold and beginning to freeze corpse in his arms with both he and Mr. Braun were crying."Let her be your highness, she's gone," Mr. Braun said."No she's not. She can't be gone. I . . . I love her, she can't be gone," Prince Callum said."I am so sorry.""She was the one Mr. Braun. You how sometimes you know things just by looking at them?""I do yes," Mr. Braun said."When I looked at her I knew she was the one. I just knew it. Looking into her eyes I saw my whole future in it and now that future will never be.""Your highness I am so sorry.""There has to be something we can do," Prince Callum said. "There has to be a way for us to bring her back.""Your highness please you are making this very hard on yourself.""She can't be gone Mr. Braun. She can't. I love her and I need her," he said and looked down at Loque Be
The creature flew out of its nest and seeing its massive size, Loque Bella shrunk to the size of a pea. It was a giant pterodactyl with the feathers of a snowy owl; squawking and flapping its large wings."Oh my goodness oh no," Loque Bella said looking at it fly on. It then turned and began flying towards her and seeing it coming straight for her, her heart dropped right out of her chest. She screamed and began climbing, as fast as she could, as behind her the creature homed in on her.Its sharp beak was aimed at her and was going to stab her right through the back had she not let go and fallen a few vines down just in the nick of time. The creature like lightning turned its body to the side and flew on as Loque Bella saw it go and continued climbing."Oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!" she said as she climbed; Gorra had nothing but terrible words to say about the pterotus and it was out to get her. Not good.It turned in the air and flew d
It was a couple of hours after midnight and the full moon still shining its bright light, Loque Bella in her moon essence form flew through the night sky in the direction of the Harborage of Embellishment. She had left Marius behind and it was a decision that cut her up. It reminded her of the heart ache that came to her when she saw Prince Mangus dead and what he put himself through just to ensure her safety and that just made her leaving Marius behind even more painful. The desert was dangerous and he was out there by himself, what had she done? With what they had faced, she couldn't believe that she had left him but she had to. Leaving meant he could have her portion of food and water which would give him another day but still that was not good enough; hunger and thirst were not the only things that could kill him out there, there were the creatures also. And what if one of them attacked him? They barely survived going up against them the two of them what more by himself?
A new day came and Loque Bella and Marius continued making their way through hot bareness to the Harborage of Embellishment.Walking on suddenly Marius stopped and turned his head to the side."What?" Loque Bella asked."Did you hear that?" he asked."Hear what?""I think I just heard thunder.""Thunder," she said and looked up. "That's not possible there's not a single cloud in the sky.""It didn't come from the sky.""Then where did it come from?" she asked and Marius ran to his left and began climbing the large dune. "What are you doing?"He climbed on and when he reached the top his blood ran cold."Oh my goodness," he said."What? Marius what is it?" Loque Bella asked and ran up the very dune to see what he was looking at. She reached the top, with him just standing there with a blank expression on his face, and when she saw what had gotten him so spooked, the same expression came over her face.
The sun rose over the dunes and brought forth a new day and walking on across the hotness Loque Bella and Marius carried on; now with only one bag with the things they needed to survive. There was a large dune in front of them and when they climbed it hoping to see something in the distance that would give them relief, it gave them the opposite feeling; they both gave out heavy sighs and threw their heads down, there was nothing out there but dunes, dunes and more dunes."Goodness gracious, I don't know how much more of this I can take. I am so tired," Loque Bella said heavily breathing, with her fur cloak stained with dried up blood and washed in dirt to keep the blood from being smelled by any nearby predators."We'll get there don't worry," Marius said with his bag on his back."Get where? We don't even know where we're going.""Yes we do. The Harborage of Embellishment.""Yes but we don't even know if it's out here," she said."Of
Marius crouched on through the tunnel following the bloody drag marks and finally came to the end of it. The tunnel came out into a large open area and standing up straight he then took off his bag and secured it in a secluded corner and began looking around for Loque Bella. He was about to shout out her name when just then he heard a squeal coming from the darkness; a squeal that made him hide the oil lamp under his cloak and hit the ground. There were large rocks and bolders scattered across the area and these were what Marius used to hide himself from the creature; popping his oil lamp in and out from underneath his cloak to see where he was going and not lose track of the bloody drag marks."Loque Bella," he whispered out to her but the only thing that responded was the creature that gave out another squeal. Quickly he hid the oil lamp and sat quiet as somewhere in the area the creature ran around; with the sound of its many legs hitting the ground like a sm
The following day came and Loque Bella and Marius carried on. From walking across the hard ground of the desert they found themselves entering the loose sand portion of it with dunes of different shapes and sizes scattered across the area, as far as the eye could see."Goodness and now the real hard part comes," Marius said."We have to get across all that?" Loque Bella asked."Yes we do. And there's no sign of trees anywhere so I'm guessing we have double this ground to cover.""Great.""Come on let's go. Let's see if we can cover a good amount of ground before the overhead sun comes upon us and makes our day.""Alright," she said and they began making their way across the loose sands of the desert; continuing with their journey through the bare hotness to the Harborage of Embellishment where Loque Bella's last chance to return to her lover and family lied.Hours later the sun was directly overhead and was at its meanest; as below it
The sun rose bringing forth a new day and Loque Bella and Marius were off. They had bags on their backs filled with the things they needed, their skin painted with thick white paint, their faces too, fur cloaks over their clothes to shield them from the sun, fur boots to protect them from the hot sand and their weapons on their belts; a sword and knives. The sun blazed on and on they walked on the hard bare desert ground; making sure to build their tent and rest every three hours to quench their thirst, rest their feet and paint on a fresh coat of white paint."Goodness no wonder the people who venture into here are never seen again, the sun is brutal," Loque Bella said; with the both of them breathing in and out heavily trying to catch their breaths."Yes. Either the sun got them or other things did," Marius said."Right.""Scared?""Of course I'm scared. There are creatures out here that are going to attack us and we have no idea what they
Night fell and outside the hut they had rented for the night, Loque Bella and Marius sat on the ground around a fire; both with blankets over them and taking in the quiet of the night, with distance looks on both their faces."How are you doing over there?" Marius asked."I certainly could be better," Loque Bella responded. "I knew what she was going to tell me I had to do was going to be hard but I didn't think it was going to be this hard. Journeying through a hot desert against the blazing sun to reach an oasis that no living soul has ever been to sounds like one of the hardest things I'll probably ever have to do.""It is. The desert is so hot and vast that people who have attempted to cross it and come out the other end . . . Have never been seen again. Goodness I didn't even think there was anything alive in there, an oasis for that matter, if I hadn't heard everything else it would have easily been the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. An oasis in
