Chapter 4

After dinner, dad told Adriana to load the dishwahser because he wanted to talk to me. We sit down in the living room, and dad says, "Abby I know everyone has been asking you about your birthday, but we need to have a serious discussion about it. It's only a week away and some important things could happen and I want you to be fully prepared for it". Just then mom walks in. Dad tells her what he just said and mom kicks off her shoes, sits down and says, "Okay. Let's talk".

Dad starts the discussion, "We all know that it's very possible that you could meet your mate that day and you need to be extra careful". I hold up a hand and say, "Dad, I highly doubt that any of the guys in this pack are my mate. They are all royal assholes. None of them are interested in a mate who can defend herself. They want to be dominant instead of equals like you and mom. I won't settle for less than what you two have. Besides, I have my wolf training right after I graduate high school. I don't have time for any of that".

I see both of my parents exhale a breath. Dad smiles and says, "How did we raise such a mature young lady?' My mom looks at him and says, "I'm afraid we are both at fault for that. She was almost forced to grow up with the whole white wolf thing and having to take care of her sisters while we worked. I just hope you don't feel like we robbed you of a childhood."

I furrowed my eyebrows and said, "Not at all. If anything, I felt like I got more freedom than most kids. I just had responsibilities with that freedom. I just figured it was me earning my freedom. I knew you were doing it because you loved us, not because you wanted to get away from us. Not that I would blame you if you wanted to get away from Adriana". I smiled at my parents and we hear, "HEY!!! I HEARD THAT! You KNOW I'm the favorite kid here" coming from the kitchen. I start laughing while mom and dad just shake their heads.

"Seriously, there is also something else you need to be prepared for. Your wolf may wake and you may shift for the first time since your were 4. Do you remember anything about that day?" my dad asks. I nod with my eyes wide, "I remember it like it was yesterday. I also still remember what the Moon Goddess told me. She told me that I wouldn't shift until I was safe. She has checked on me in my dreams since then. Always on my birthday, but a couple times a year too". 

My dad gives me a concerned look, "If your wolf wakes, that's going to be a good and bad thing. It's a good thing because she will be able to help you navigate through the rough times and she will see trouble coming before you do. It's a bad thing because your scent will change and wolves will be able to tell you are not an ordinary wolf. This is what Beau and I have been training you so hard for. When your wolf wakes, you will be in more danger of being killed or kidnapped. You need to listen to your wolf at all times and never go anywhere without Kayla. That's why we have included her in your training."

I stand up, "Does she know this? If she does, she never told me about it". Dad shakes his head, "No. The Moon Goddess told us she would tell her when the time came. We are trusting her to guide us in the timing of all this." I hug both my parents, "I understand. I won't say anything until she brings it up. Speaking of Kayla, I need to get dressed for training. It's her dad's turn to train us. Maybe I can knock him on his ass tonight!" I start laughing as I head to my room laughing. I hear my mom tell my dad, "We created that." My dad shakes his head and holds my mom's hand, "We sure did. I wouldn't have her any other way."
