[Rosalynd]
“That was an Earthquake,” Axel dismisses it. “I don’t even think it was that bad. Maybe a 3.6?”
“Sounds like it knocked down one of the giants,” Patrick shrugs as if things like this happen every day out here in the woods. “It’s always a bit loud when things like that happen.”
“Giants!,” I squeak. “Giants are real?!!”
My eyes must appear ridiculous with shock because the two men look over at me and begin to laugh.
“Oh sweetie,” Patrick reaches over and pats me on the shoulder. “I forgot that you are new to these p
[Gideon] Evander, Antigone, and Rainy are standing in front of us ringed in shadow, a layer of steam rising from their clothing as their bodies adjust to the difference in temperature between the subterranean Fae Realm and the surface world. The three of them look ragged and tired as if they were running to catch up with us the entire way from Arcata to here. And maybe they had. "Evander," I walk forward. "Whatever are you doing out of bed?" I am glad to see my friend but also worried. We only sent him to Faerie a few hours ago completely unconscious and so damaged that Antigone could do nothing to help him. Now he
[Rosalynd] Slone is standing above us, or at least I think it is her. She looks nothing like herself. Where once she had gently waving brown hair, the straight white bob is unnaturally white, almost silver. Her skin glows like it has been freshly polished, perfectly tanned, and massaged with sweet almond oil. As the mist shrouding her body reforms into a chic black pantsuit, which she is wearing while topless, the front of the jacket reveals cleavage down to the belly button. On her feet are a pair of heels that would be impossible to run with, but something about how the lightning crackles at her fingertips tells me that she isn't going to do much running. We are.
[Gideon] Slone. Always so alone, even when surrounded by others. She doesn't realize how brightly she shines. How good she makes others feel. She is distracted, the master warlock is speaking through her. His influence is like an infection. It needs to be cut from her, the wound cauterized, burning out the dark taint. Slowly, I approach. Evander and the others are moving in the shadows of the trees, helping those in need escape the damage she is causing. I was the one tasked with finding and helping Rosie.
[Axel] Someone is shaking me, but my eyes are not working. I cannot seem to get my eyelids to pull open no matter how I try. So instead of opening them, I try to wave my arms, but my arms are too heavy as well. I only know one thing that can weaken me to this degree. Wolfbane. Somebody dosed me with wolfsbane. But who? "I'm awake," I manage to croak. "I just can't move. Wolfsbane." "Grab his ankles," Gideon's voice commands as many hands lift my body. "What do you eat for breakfast?" Jasper's sarcastic voice is easy to recog
[Rosalynd] I am tied to a cold, hard chair. I think it might be one of those folding metal chairs. My eyes are blindfolded. There is some kind of gag in my mouth, making it hard to swallow. I didn't realize my mother was so afraid of me that she needed to make sure I couldn't see, speak, or move. The floor is vibrating. I hear a low roar and feel the occasional lurch. Are we moving? Moving my head to the side, I try to hear the surrounding sounds. Do they have me tied to a chair in a van? Who does that? The van lurches forward, and my chair starts to slide. I can't believe they tied me to a chair in the first place. Why not just hogtie me like a reasonable kidnapper? What was Enchantra thinking? Was this her idea or were they just improvising?
[Gideon] “All of us,” I indicate the four of us in this room. "Jasper can use his natural ability as an oracle to scry for her with our connection as to her as Rosalynd’s fated lovers to use as his compass." I pull a silk handkerchief out of my pocket, a piece of fabric I keep just in case I need to cast an impromptu spell. It is good to have a purified surface, and I cannot always depend on other spaces having this attribute. Placing it on Axel's well-polished coffee table I look up and ask, "Do you have a map of Northern California?" "I might," Axel stumbles to his feet on unstable legs. "My father is a traditionalist and prefers to travel using road maps. I keep some of his spares around in c
[Evander] Everything hurts. My mind, my body and my heart. I miss her, but not in a way that would make sense to anyone else. The way a Groom craves his Bride is beyond simple desire. I need to be near her, to know she is safe, with every part of me. I am especially vulnerable until we’ve connected and sealed our bond. Until then, I could easily be hurt through her, even killed, if she faced injury or death herself. Not to mention, I will continuously put myself in harm's way just to protect her, because from the moment we met she became my everything. The desire to just lock her up in a tower until we have a child is so overwhelming. I have to remind myself that I am a ci
[Axel]I know I shouldn’t take pleasure in watching Gideon squirm, but I can’t help it, it’s just too damn funny. He’s such a stuck-up sonofabitch all the time, so to see him twisting up his face in frustration while just this side of crazy all the while trying to convince a very large, very hairy man to do something for him…I just can’t think of anything more ridiculous than our current situation.Evander escorted us to Ukiah through the shadow roads. He’s currently in a chair napping it off, while the rest of us try to convince Gideon’s “brother” to help us. I cannot see the relationship between Barry and Gideon, although he insists they are related. Firstly, Gideon is an average height with blond hair and chocolate brown eyes, whereas Barry is 7’3” tall wi
