[Axel]
“Okay, hold up,” I stare at Gideon, my face frozen in shock. “You can’t just drop something like that on a person. How on Earth can my grandmother be alive? She was old when I was a kid. AT least 65-70 years old. She died 20 years ago. That would make her around what, 95? 100? No way. She was a tough old wolf but no.”
“Your father is nearing 70 and would you expect him to die soon?” Gideon presses. “He’s still one of the most powerful Alphas in the pack. Strong enough that you trusted him to guard your pack children and elderly. Does he look anywhere as old or frail as the other elders?”
I never really thought about how special my f
[Rosalynd] My heart soars with the knowledge that both Gideon and Axel will be joining us soon. I hadn’t realized how much I had missed them both in such a short time. Evander and I have had months here together, but he warns me that time moves differently between the realms. Fae live so much longer than humans, that it is no bother for us to live in Faerie at a speed that seems twice as fast as Earth. If anything, it gives us an advantage. When it takes your children 50 years to reach maturity, it wouldn’t hurt if that time could be cut in half by human standards. And when you are near immortal, time starts to mean nothing anyway. Evander and I have grown much closer since the Oracle dropped us back at home. We needed to go on that journey together, to see the truth of
[Evander] “Evander, this is a terrible time to have a child.” “I know,” I try to take a step away from her, but instead I grasp her closer. I am already so drunk with her scent, that it would be so easy to lose control.“So why would Faerie demand it of us now?” She looks genuinely confused. “What advantage could we have with me being potentially pregnant? Wouldn’t I be weaker? More easily harmed?” “Actually…” I start to tell her about our fae traditions, of how our priests would often go out to battle with child, the child’s soul strengthening their own, making them st
[Rosalynd] “Rosie…” Evander reaches out to grab my hand, his voice pleading. "Please try to understand." I snatch my hand away, turning my back to him. I’m still mad at him for dropping me into the pool and walking away without a backward glance. By the time I made it back to my room, soaked and cold, he was long gone. The maids said he needed to “go for a ride” to “clear his head” and blah blah blah. His small rejection hurt me more than I ever want to admit. “Our wedding is in three and a half hours,” Evander reminds me as he places a hand
[Rosalynd]“That’s for stealing my mate!” Axel growls, his teeth bared, hackles raised, his hands partly transformed into claws. Evander’s personal guard moves forward to intervene. The king puts up his hands to reassure his men and signal that they shouldn’t get involved. “And that is for not telling me about my grandmother!” He shouts as he punches him again. Evander stumbles and Axel pulls him forward by the collar of his dress shirt. “And this,” he pulls his arm back to deliver one more punch, “is for making us wait while you put your nasty smell all over our girl you sonofabitch!”
[Axel] “So you and Rosie need to have this miracle Fae baby to save the universe? Is that what you’re trying to tell me?” I am standing next to a window that isn’t emanating sunlight, but something different, more eerily blue in cast, something closer to twilight and not a true morning. My hands are resting on my hips to keep me from strangling him. “Not in those exact words,” Evander confirms as one of his servants pulls his corset vest a bit tighter. It is made of very expensive-looking fabric. Probably silk and gold and Faerie dust. I don’t know, but combined with the way they are lacing him in, he looks both slender and buff simultaneously. I find myself mesmerized as they pull the laces tighter.
[Gideon] So much has changed about Rosalynd, and now that I am aware, now that I can see it, I cannot unsee it. Much like Enchantra, when faced with something bigger than herself, she transformed into something new, something big enough to handle her changing world. For Enchantra, that meant becoming a warlock. For Rosalynd, she’s become a chimera and she doesn’t even know, she doesn’t know a thing about what Vincent and Esther did by creating her. I know, but I’m afraid to tell her because I’m afraid of how she will look at me differently once she knows my involvement in it all. Rosi
[Rosalynd] By the time Gideon and I finally parted, there was no question in my mind about how he feels about me, nor how I feel about him. As our bodies connected in every possible way, our souls blended, we could see clearly into one another, reading the surface of our hearts. It was an experience far more intimate than any I have experienced so far with any of my lovers, and will likely always be that way between us. We still have a long way to go in our relationship moving forward, but this afternoon we made a connection, a true connection. As he hurried into his pants, the maids returned, tittering as they watched him cover his bare ass. I was still covered by my slip, and the maids had seen me in the worst situations. Sometimes Evander can be very creative.
[Evander] Gideon. I wasn’t expecting him to kiss me, especially not on my wedding day. It was an innocent, friendly kiss, but with the visions I was given by the Oracle, I know it could be so much more between us. I've seen the future, our future, and it is full of love. Looking back at my bride, I know she feels it too. Damn it. Have we just lost him forever? “We need to go find him, Evander,” her large gray eyes are pleading. “Please. We can’t lose him. We need him.” “Are you sure?&rdqu
