A Night Out

The air was thick with the scent of pine and freshly cut grass as Emily stepped out of the car. The evening sun cast a warm, golden hue over the parking lot, reflecting off the windows of the towering basketball stadium in front of them. Kamsy, her boyfriend, smiled as he closed the car door behind her, walking around to join her side.

“Ready for a distraction?” Kamsy asked, his voice soft and filled with warmth as he took her hand in his.

Emily gave him a small smile, nodding. “I think I need this,” she replied, squeezing his hand lightly. It had been a month since Austin’s death, and though she had been surrounded by her family, the grief still clung to her like a shadow. Kamsy had been her rock through it all, always knowing when to give her space and when to pull her close.
