It was all quiet. It was like time had stopped. Lin could not hear a thing, she felt so numb as she stared at her best friend lying on the floor of the hotel room.

“Lin! What the hell, Lin!” Robert exclaimed as he rushed to Jane’s aid.

Blood. Thick blood gushed out of Jane’s head and she was unconscious in seconds.

“What are you doing? F*cking help me!” Robert shouted the words as he lifted Jane in his arms, taking her to the door.

Lin inhaled sharply and then was sucked back into reality. It was at that moment that she realized what she had fully done. And how did she feel about it? Well, nothing. She felt nothing.

“Help me and open the door, Lin! Gosh!” Robert was panicking.

Lin swallowed and made her way to the door, expertly dodging the puddle of blood that had formed. She opened the door and followed Robert as he carried her best friend down the hallway and towards the stairs.

In no time, they were out of the hotel and heading to his car. There were a few people that were staring and didn’t mind their business.

Lin was about to get in the car with Robert and Jane when her phone chimed. She glanced at it quickly and saw that it was No User.

‘Don’t get in his car, use your own car,’ The message read.

Robert had already placed Jane in the backseat. She was laid there with care. He was now behind the steering wheel, waiting for his girlfriend so he could head to the hospital.

But she was being so damn slow! “Oh my gosh, Lin!” He complained.

“Uh…” Lin mumbled in response. “I think I will take my car to the hospital. I will meet y’all there.” She closed the door and watched the car pull off without Robert saying anything else to her.

She stood there for a few seconds before her emotions returned. And man…she was hurt. Yes, she may have been impulsive and was kind of regretting why she had hit her best friend in the head, but she was so angry and hurt.

She decided to listen to No User because why not? The unknown person was the one who helped her catch her boyfriend cheating on her. Maybe they were watching out for her.

Lin headed to her car and got in. She started the engine and was on her way in no time. Her heart was pounding in her chest and she could feel a lot of anxiety.

After a few minutes of driving, when she was getting closer to the hospital, her phone made another chime.

She slowed down next to the road and picked it up. It was a message. And yes, it was from her unknown guardian angel.

‘So…let me just say, that was very entertaining! I am very pleased about how you handled that situation! A blow to the head with a champagne bottle? Spectacular!’ The message read.

Lin’s eyebrows furrow in confusion. How? How did this person know all this? It had just happened. And she knew certainly that it was only she, Jane, and her boyfriend who was in the hotel room.

‘Who are you?’ She texted back and bit her lip lightly as she waited for a response.

‘You will know very soon. But for now, I need you to head back home. And I’m not talking about here in the city. Go back to your real home. Your pack needs you. Your legacy is dying,’ The reply came.

That made Lin’s heart drop.

No one in the city knew that she was a she-wolf. She had hidden that part of her very well. And so for the unknown person to be telling her that, it shook her to the core.

“F*ck…” She mumbled to herself as she tried to wrap her head around what was happening.

Her pack.

She had left her pack for almost seven years now and had not looked back. She had come to live in the city with the humans and had started a life for herself.

But now that she was finally happy and enjoying what she had built for herself, it all just came tumbling down.

Lin was the only child of her parents. And guess what? Her father was the Alpha of their pack and her mother was the Luna.

The pack was called the Bloodhound Pack. And according to their tradition, she was supposed to be the next Alpha.

But that was not what she wanted.

That was one of the reasons she left, or should she say, ran away? She was not ready for all that heavy responsibility, nor even was she now.

Plus, she was a female, and a lot of talk was floating around that a female shouldn’t be made alpha, and that even led to a small protest. So yeah, she had to leave.

But to make matters worse, she had turned eighteen and had not even shifted into her wolf yet, nor had she found a mate. It was very frustrating and depressing and she just wanted to escape all the heaviness.

So yeah, that was why she was in the city at the moment; living a happy life. She missed her parents and her pack so much but she was perfectly okay with the decision she had made.

But it was crazy that now someone that she did not know and had not even met was telling her to go back home.

‘Who the hell are you?’ Lin texted back, turning off the engine of the car so she could focus.

‘No User,’ The reply was instant, and it only made Lin more annoyed.

Her grip on the phone tightened as she tried to control the anger that was building up in her. She did not want to go to her pack at all. She just wanted everything to be okay with her boyfriend again.

She wanted it all to go back to the way things were a week ago.

But, you don’t always get what you want, do you?

Lin sat in the car for a few minutes as she cried silently. She was devastated that her boyfriend had broken her heart. She was also beaten down by the fact that a random stranger knew who she really was. ‘Should I go home just because a stranger told me so?’ She thought to herself. She proceeded to wipe the tears from her face, and sniffling, she decided to text the person back. ‘What do you know about my pack?’‘Lin, do we really have time for this? Go back home, your pack needs you. And oh, you should know; your parents are kind of dead.’Lin blinked faster than normal for a few seconds and exhaled sharply. She decided to read the text again. And again. And again. And again. It couldn’t be true, could it? How could her parents be dead? She chuckled dryly as she tried to process the information. This day was just getting worse and worse. First, her boyfriend cheated on her. Next, someone finds out her true identity that she thought that she had hidden very well. And now, news o

Gunshots. The sounds were loud and did not stop. Lin should have been feeling fear but she was not. Maybe it was the adrenaline. Or maybe it was the fact that she was just sick and tired of everything especially after she had had a crappy day. When she was satisfied with where she was, she finally brought the car to a stop. It was parked right in front of the mansion. “Step out of the car with your hands in the air!” A strong voice commanded. Lin breathed deeply for a few seconds before opening the door of the vehicle and doing what was asked of her. The scene that she saw was fearstrucking. It was the first time in her life to have so many guns pointed at her at the same time. Guard dogs were ready to be released only at the will of their master. And there was a sound, like an alarm that echoed in the air. “Hands in the air!!” Another voice thundered, causing Lin’s heart to skip a beat. She did what was asked of her. “I’m a Boyce!” She tried to explain but no one wanted to li

Lin swallowed hard as she opened the message that had popped up on her screen from the unknown user. She was a bit nervous but more intrigued than that. The message read, ‘Your parents’ death may seem like a tragic and unfortunate accident, and I am sorry about that. But my job here is to provide you with the unfiltered and unseasoned truth.’When she read that part, her heart skipped a beat. She had totally forgotten that a guy was just a few feet away from her, waiting to get her full attention. But even with how hot the guy was, how could she even pay attention to him when she was on her toes about what No User was about to tell her? Another text came in, causing the phone to vibrate and make a sharp noise. ‘Lin, it was not an accident. It was done purposely. Your parents’ death was planned and organized by someone and that person is right under the roof of the royal mansion.’“What the f*ck?” Lin whispered to herself in disbelief. “What? Hunter was scared, there was no doubt of that. He had been warned to stay away from Lin from the moment her arrival spread through the town like wildfire. His father had warned him but still, he wanted to see the talked-about daughter of the Alpha and Luna of the pack that had run away. And she was certainly not what he expected. Well, he did not know what to expect but a beautiful and innocent girl whose eyes were filled with great regret and pain was not his list of expectations. “Dad…” Hunter walked towards his father, but before he could even explain himself, the man hit him hard across the face, causing him to inhale sharply as the pain swept across his jaw. “You dare disobey me?!” Hunter’s father spat the words in his face. The man chuckled without humor as he ran his hand through his white hair. “I should have known. I should have known that you would have found a way to mess up again.”Hunter swallowed hard as a painful burn settled in his chest. Tears threatened to fall f

Lin felt like her heart had stopped as she waited for a response from No User on the phone. But it seemed like none was going to come if she was just going to wait around. “Hello?” She managed to say. “Please…please, I need answers. I’m drowning here.” She could feel the tears building up in her eyes again. The person released a small sigh after hearing what Lin had to say. And just like that, the call was dropped. “No,” Lin whispered to herself. “No, no, no.” She took the phone from her ear and hurriedly tried to call again. “Please pick up, please pick up,” She chanted as a few hot tears slid from her eyes. But it was useless. The person didn’t pick up. Even though she called for almost thirty more times, it was just useless. “Gosh…” Her lips quivered when she spoke. More tears flowed from her eyes as she stared at the phone in her hand. Then a sudden rush of rage began to fill her, causing her to scream loudly, throwing the phone hard against the wall. “Hurry now, dear. No one makes the council wait,” Sarah said to Lin as she lingered at the door. Lin had to take a few seconds to think. Did she even want to be the first female Alpha of the pack? The only real reason she came back was because of her parents. She came back because she had heard they were dead. She never wanted to be Alpha to begin with. It was just too much for her. The responsibility, being in the public eye, and having to be a certain way; it was just not for her. She had no desire for it. But now, with her parents dead, she had to step up. She had to put aside her personal desires so she could let their legacy live on. “Okay, okay,” Lin mumbled in response. “Where can I find something to wear?”“Check in the closet. Look your best and make sure that you don’t delay, dear,” Sarah said and then walked away, finding her way to the grand gathering.
