Chapter 8

Cecelia was speechless.

Seeing that Cecelia was not about to move an inch, William raised his voice, “Now, immediately.”

Cecelia could hear the anger in William’s voice and dared not dilly-dally. Hence, she quickly ran into the room. Nevertheless, when she turned around, she saw that William had an expression as black as coal behind her. “Um, I’m a little hungry. Can I cook some food in the kitchen?”

William’s expression darkened to Cecelia’s question, and the latter recalled the way William had fought earlier...

Cecelia immediately climbed up the bed. “Okay, okay. I won’t cook. Don’t be angry.”

‘He seems to enjoy being angry. In the short few hours, ever since I met him, his expression has never brightened.’

Cecelia cried internally once more.

‘Cecelia Shayne, what sort of good husband have you found yourself!’

Nevertheless, perhaps it was because of her outstanding attitude of admitting her wrong doings that William stopped expressing his temper. Instead, he patted the bedside and said to her, “Sit over here.”

“Huh?”

Cecelia who was once again dumbfounded made William frown. “Are you bad at hearing words or bad at understanding them?”

Cecelia knew that William was chiding her for being stupid, and she scolded him internally, ‘My hearing is fine, and I’m totally capable of understanding things. The one who’s problematic is you.

‘You order me to do something at one moment and then order me to do another right after. It’s like there’s something wrong with your mind!’

Cecelia might not have agreed with him, but she still did as he said obediently. Once she sat down, William commanded her again.

“Legs!”

At this point, it could be said that he was giving her step by step instructions. Cecelia dared not hesitate and quickly stretched out her legs.

Once she had done as commanded, William stood up.

Cecelia’s mind was filled with question marks, but she dared not move rashly.

After about two minutes, William returned with a basin half filled with hot water. His brows furrowed tighter with each step he took toward Cecelia.

This time, he said nothing as he placed the basin down and took Cecelia’s foot in his large hand...

Cecelia’s heart began to pound.

‘He... he just...’

They had only met each other not more than 5 hours ago, yet he was doing something men rarely did in their whole lives.

Cecelia watched as William kneeled in front of her with his head lowered. Tears began to well up in her eyes as she watched William carefully wash her feet.

She felt it the most when William said with his head still lowered, “Don’t ever walk around barefooted.”

Cecelia was then struck with a sudden realization. Earlier, when he kept insisting she get on the bed, it had been because she was barefooted.

She had on multiple occasions walked barefooted in front of Hawick. Nevertheless, Hawick had never done what William was doing for her right now.

One was a stranger, while the other was a person she had grown up with...

Cecelia would never forget the incident. She had barely escaped with her life and was covered in blood. Then, when she went to look for Hawick in hopes of getting some comfort, she opened the door only to catch him having a steamy moment with an old woman on the sofa.

The Hawick she knew was a kind and progressive man. However, his true colors seemed to be that of an unrighteous schemer.

Cecelia felt her world crumble when she realized that he had betrayed her. All of a sudden, without him, she was all alone.

Endless loneliness began to wrap around her, layer after layer. That was when she noticed William who had been arguing with a woman on the streets.

The two did not seem to be on good terms. William was even punched in the chest a few times by the woman before the latter left him and got into a luxurious car.

That was when Cecelia felt she had met someone in the same situation as her.

They had both lost against the seduction of money.

Consequently, Cecelia lost her mind under this thought and approached William from behind before proposing something abnormal.

Admiring William’s ebony black hair, Cecelia could be seen smiling like a fool. “I think I’ve struck gold.”

It was the N+1th time Cecelia was feeling emotional.

She had truly struck gold.
