"How is this possible? What is Lila doing there?" Sam asked. The number of questions running through her mind was outnumbering that he could place a handle on a single one at a time.

Lila's crying yesterday finally made sense to Damien. He had thought she was being dramatic about the situation and had ignored it, but if she was crying so much after visiting the Voss Renaissance, what did it mean? He wanted to find out how much they knew and what they did not know, but he could go into the place and just ask them questions; if he did that, then he would have to answer questions about it, too.

Kevin wanted to know how and why he knew. It was going to be a messy situation, and even though he liked to act like Sam was wrong about it all, he knew deep down that he was very right about it. It was strange for him to keep tabs on them so much.

"What is this?" Damien asked, hoping that there was an explanation that made sense. All the scenarios he was drawing up in his head made no sense at

Gavin did not understand what Tessa meant when she said she was going to go head-on with him, but he did not like it. He wondered if Lila had kept it a secret from her family that he was the reason she went to jail. It was obvious that with Oliver and Tessa gaining in on him, there was no escape for him. He would have to give up his son pretty enough. To be honest, if he wanted his relationship with Evangeline to last longer, he would like it if his son left, but he was not sure what relationship to pursue now. Should he try his best to get back with Lila? Should he have asked her mother to try and fix them back? Should he remain with Evangeline and hope for the best? "Are you coming to bed?" Evangeline popped her head in through the door. She had been standing there for a few seconds, watching him so lost in thoughts that he had not even realized that she had been standing there. "Oh hello" "What are you thinking about so much that you did not even notice me?" she asked, pushing

Damien, I am sorry about the other day.Lila looked at the text on the phone screen; she had been hesitating to send him the message for a while now, and she wondered why she called him. Her hand hovered over the send button, and she sent it without any hesitation. As soon as she hit the send button, she threw down her phone and decided to act as if she did not want to know what he was going to say in response."Lila, open up," Tessa said from outside.Lila did not know her mom was at home; she could barely tell the difference between her mom being at home and her being away on a trip. She was constantly out of the house, and Oliver had commented that she was working because of her. Lila did not want anyone to work for her; she was not a child, and she should be able to face the consequences of her actions. She touched the door handle, and a cold shiver went down her spine. She did not know what her mom, who was on the other side of the door, would want to say, but she was ready to fa

Lila stood there and watched her mom leave the door closing behind her. She had the evidence to put him away for good, but she was afraid of his threat to the life of her son. All she was doing and all she kept doing was so she could stand before her son as a good mom.She walked to the door briskly, hoping to catch up with her mom; maybe her mom could do it all. She could put Gvain behind bars and successfully reunite her with her son. She had begun to have hopes that someday the relationship between herself and Damien was going to get better.Maybe it was greed, but she was not ready to let go of it yet; she did not want to be alone, no matter how much she acted like it did not matter. She liked Damien for real, and she currently did not like the image he had of her in his mind. Why should she continue to suffer prejudice just because of Gavin? Why was she still trying so hard to protect him when all he had ever done for her was to make her suffer right from the moment they first me

"What?" Damien asked, shocked at her words. He had been working all morning and took a break to check his messages when he saw hers. He decided to reach out, and this was the first thing he was hearing. The emotions behind the words she was saying and the emotions he felt through the text were too different."If you did not hear me the first time, then maybe I should say it again," she said and paused as if she were waiting for him to stop her. "Let us break up.""And why?" he asked."Do we need a reason?" She asked panicked because she should have thought of all she wanted to say well before she said it to him."Of course we have to, or else why else would we be breaking up? For no reason?""Are you going to marry me?" she asked suddenly. She did not know what her mind was trying to do to her, but she was grateful that it had thought of something to say."What?""I guess I might need to say everything I want to say twice today since you are having a problem hearing me clearly," she s

She looked down at her phone as it chimed with a text message in her hand. Are you free? She looks down at the message and thinks it must be a mistake because she has no idea where the message is from. She deletes it and calls Gvain. "I have been waiting for your call," was the first thing he said. She could not believe that of all the things her mom could tell her to do, one of them was crawling back to her ex like he was a trophy. As much as she had loved him when they were together, she had self-esteem that was not going to let her do something as stupid as this. "You have been?" she asked, feeling her throat get bitter. "Of course, you called me last night, drunk, and I wondered if it was because you wanted to get back together." He asked and he could not believe how shameless he was. She knew that the only reason he was interested in her was

"You are here," Gavin said as soon as the door opened and Lila stepped in. The door closed behind her, and she moved into the room. "I hope I did not keep you waiting too long," she asked."Of course not. I got here early," he said, moving from where he stood to help her get the chair. She looked at him shocked at his actions; she wanted to ask him why he was acting like such a gentleman and standing up when she got into the room. Pulling out the chair for her? She remembered their dates as a couple and how he was always nonchalant towards her. She licked her lips and shook her head, trying to act as if it were normal for him to act like this. "Thank you," she murmured instead of asking him what had come over him. She slipped into the chair, and he put it on a bit before going back to the seat opposite her. She hated the way they had to sit opposite each other and stare into their souls as if nothing was wrong with it. "You are welcome," he replied, taking up the menu and giving it

"Why? I thought you two looked together," Gavin said. He was brimming with so much joy, but he could not show it. He was supposed to be a married man. How did he show so much happiness just because she was going to be with him if all went well? "We were a good match, but he liked me more than I liked him, and in relationships like that, it is hard to keep up, and as I said earlier, I still loved you; I liked you so much that I could not move on," she lied, and her throat felt itchy as she lied so much. "I am a married man," Lila wanted to call his bluff; he was acting hard to get, and to what end? He had been brimming from ear to ear, and now he wanted to act as if he were faithful to his wife. "I know this is wrong, but are you saying that all of the feelings you have for me are all gone?" She asked, and he stood there, watching her. "If you tell me that you do not have a single feeling for me again, I will not disturb you again." Gavin sat there and watched her without a word. "

Lila did not know what came over her but she did not have time to think because Rosa had dropped her off at Damien's house with nothing but luck. She was not sure if she had enough money to bail out of that place if she changed her mind halfway. She took out her phone to see if she could call her driver to come get her but it was dead. She sighed and then walked to the gate. "Since I am here, I might as well get this over with." "Hello, ma'am," Grey said before she could press on the doorbell. The gate was sectioned in such a way that one could see inside from outside and vice versa. "Is Damien in?" she asked, trying to act as cool as possible. "I want to see him," she added when he stood there looking at her as if she had said nonsense. "Yes," Grey said, shaking his head and going to open the gate for her. Her eyes had cleared a bit but she knew that she was brave because of the intoxication. She cleared her throat and waited for him to say something. "Come on in; I will go get h

Lila and Rosa sat under the tree. At first they both chatted away, talking loudly with Amber as if she were really there. Lila was sure that if anyone saw them, they would turn their noses at them and wonder what madness they were trying to portray, but she did not mind doing it if it made the woman sitting in front of her feel better. After a while of chatting, Rosa pulled out a small bottle of wine; it was not a popular brand and it was a strange bottle to her. Lila had never seen any wine that came in such a small bottle. "This was her favourite," she murmured as she set three plastic cups on the ground and began pouring inside them. "Amber, I finally brought you a drink because I believe that soon you can finally rest up," she said, pouring the drink at the base of the tree. "You have to drink every single drop; it was a hassle to get this," Rosa added as if she was scolding the girl."Here," she gave another cup to Lila, who took it. By the time Rosa had made sure they had enough cookies that their tooth hurt, Kevin retired to his room and then they went to the grave site. Kevin had stayed down not because he wanted to but because Rosa was suddenly herself and was now bossing him around as she used to do before. "It is going to be a long ride to the grave. Are you sure you do not want me to get anything for you?" "Anything to eat?" Lila asked, shocked. She had never been filled with cookies before; they say that there is a first time for everything and this was truly a first for her. "Yes, maybe some bread or just anything," Rosa replied and Lila shook her head. "Don't be shy and tell me; even if we don't have it at home, I will stop over at the store and get it for you." Rosa's offer sounded sweet but Lila was sure that she did not need to eat anything again. "I am fine," Lila said and then they left for the car. Lila helped Rosa into the car before turning around and getting in by herself. "We can go now," s

As if she was being watched she looked around to make sure that there were no eyes on her. As she raised her hand the door flung open and Rosa stood in front of her with a big smile across her face. "Hi, I was just about to ring the bell" she said taking a deep breath. "I know" Rosa said pushing the door wider and then stepped out. She pointed to the camera that Lila seemed to have missed and then she raised her phone and waved it to her. "I have been watching you for a while now" she added. "I am sorry, I am a bit nervous" Lila said licking her lips. She had licked it so much that all of the lip gloss she had put to prevent her lips from drying out was gone by now. "I can understand. "Where do you think you are going?" Tessa asked as Lila descended from the stairs. Lila had expected a scolding from her mom because she allowed the plan fall through but insisted she just gave her a look and went into her room. This was the first time she was seeing her since she got inside last night. "To see Amber" "But Amber is dead" Tessa words came out without any form of remorse. "She is" Lila breathed out. "She is dead but I am going to her grave to say hello and apologize for making her leave this world earlier than she was supposed to. "Why do you have to be the one to apologize for that?" Aletta asked walking into the room and standing by the door frame. "If I feel guilty then don't you think that I need to apologize?" "So you are apologizing to clear your guilt?" Oliver asked coming out of nowhere and placing his arm around Aletta's shoulders. It felt as if they had ganged up against her. She gulped down the lump in her throat and shook her head. Damien and Jason had played so much that Lila was afraid that the boy was now attached to him in just a few hours. It kind of made her feel bad that the thing that took her weeks to do just took him less than an hour to achieve. "You doubted me," he said, and he felt the need to impress. "I used to volunteer at an orphanage every weekend until I got too busy," he said with a proud tone. Both ladies did not miss that he was trying to humble brag but it was obvious that he was terrible at it. "You should go back to volunteering there; I am sure that you were making such a great impact; it would be a shame if they had to let you go," Rosa said. "I should?""Of course you should; I think you are better as a volunteer there than as the chairman of your company."
