Rain stretched in bed, she took her phone with sleep still in her eyes as she swiped up on her phone, she saw a ton of messages and wondered who could be sending her that much messages so early in the day. She muttered incoherent words to herself and scratched the side of her neck when a call came through the screen. She stared at the boldly written name on screen staring back at her.

LILA CARSON. Since she resumed as the assistant to this woman she never understood what all other assistants faced because Lila was the most easy going woman, all she had to do was bring a cup of coffee book her lunch and dinner if she was going to have some and then drop her off after the day.

Rain had not heard the reason Lila was calling but she felt a strange chill all over her body, it felt like everything was going to change once she picked up the call. She stared at the screen as the phone vibrated in her hand.

Lila rushed down the stairs to the kitchen, she picked up two spots from the drawer and put it into the freezer part of the refrigerator. She got the coffee machine running as she stood by the side. She did not want to sit before she fell asleep, she had stayed awake all night reviewing some of the documents. At first everything looked like it had been written in a foreign language but after a while some of the terms began to make sense with a little help from the Internet. No matter how she studied the work she could not seem to get a hang of it. So when she felt like it was an okay time to speak over the phone with her assistant she called her up and asked her for help, they both had goals if they could scratch each other's back they would have their end results soon. She closed her eyes, the end part of her back resting on the edge of the counter as her mind replayed the entire events of yesterday. She had been shocked in more ways than one but since she was trying to grow

Oliver told his assistant to call Gavin to come to his office for a meeting. Gavin did not know what to feel when he got the message, he did not know what it could be that Oliver wanted to say that he asked to meet with him. Gavin wanted to defy the message and act as if he had not gotten it but Evangeline had said that he should go and hear what he had to say. Evangeline had told him to keep his head up high and act as if he had not done anything wrong after all, he had not said anything wrong. Lila was truly an ex-convict and it was unbelievable that someone like her would be a Carson. "Mr Carson would see you now" Oliver had been the one who asked to see him and yet when he arrived at the time for the meeting he discovered that he would have to wait to be called in. Gavin looked up rubbing his hands in his trouser, he was glad he had not worn any delicate colours that could stain. He stood up with a big breath out of his mouth and followed the assistant who had come to cal

Lila looked down at her ringing phone. She bit the corner of her lips in annoyance as she watched it ring. She did not want to pick it up, but she did not wish Damien to think she cared enough to play hard to get with him. She did not care that he had not reached out to her sister the night of the party and that she had intentionally built walls around herself to keep him out. She knew that the call could breed a different outcome with her, and she was not liking it. She swiped her finger across the screen and put the phone to her ears. "Hello," she murmured. "Hello?" His tone was not as friendly as she would have liked, but she did not mind; she ignored it and wondered why he sounded as if she were the one calling him and interrupting his busy schedule. "You called me," she replied, rolling her chair back and stepping out of it barefoot. She leaned her bottom to the edge of the table and stared at the wall behind her that had several glass parts by the side. She wanted to ask him

"What was that?" Sam asked with a frown on his face as Damien dropped the phone to the table. "You asked me to call her, and I did," he replied with a puzzled expression on her face, his eyebrow almost dispersed into his hairline. "And you did not get her to go on a date with you? I thought you had the game," Sam murmured. "You heard her; she is busy, and I am busy." "Busy doing what?" Sam asked, jumping off the sofa and walking to the table. "You came to me asking me to help you, and now I am helping you, but you do not seem as interested in it again." "You know that Amber's death anniversary is coming up; are you asking them to forget about it and just run to the woman who killed her?" "You are not running to her; you are carrying out your suoer devious plan, and there is nothing wrong with it; I am sure that Amber would be..." "There is no need for you to mention her name," Damien said grumpily. "My bad," Sam said, picking out things from the table and dropping them back as

Lila looked up when she heard a knock on the door. Her eyes caught the clock on the wall, and it was a bit later than she had been leaving work, but she was making up her mind to get up from the table until she was done with the material in hand, and she still had at least a few pages to go over. "Come in," she screamed just enough so whoever it was could hear it from the door. Rain popped her head in and was shocked to see her still comfortably seated in her seat, not ready to go yet. She took herself out of the door frame and closed it behind her. "Are you ready to go, ma'am?" Rain asked in a small voice as she walked to the table. "I would love to review the rest of this document before I go" she murmured without looking up. "Do you want to clock out already?" she asked taking a brief glance at her before dropping his head. "It is an hour after closing time," Rain murmured. "Yes, it is," Lila's voice did not sound worried. She spoke as though they were supposed to be there at

"Hurt? Who said anything about getting hurt?" Damien choked out after a solid minute. He had drawn blank and had not known what to say. He had thought hard, and the only thing he thought of saying was to refute what she had said. "At first no one talks about hutting the other, but as time goes on..." she trailed off as her mind wandered to Gavin. When she first met him, he never acted like he was going to be the monster he was today; he was the one always being loving to her, and even though it was clear to her when the relationship ended and when she was the one clinging on to him, she did not want to feel alone, so she held on as tightly as she could. She knew he was trying his best to get away from her and could not, sending her to jail was like his redemption. He could be free without the guilt of being the one to break it off. After she had been branded as the criminal he was now free to live his life without the label. "Why would you think that I would hurt you?" "I never sa

Lila knew she had no choice but to allow him to have his way. If she ate the meal he brought, it would be easier for him to drive her out of the office. He had sent her assistant home, so she was not sure if there were others at the office or if she was alone with him. This was not the first time she was with him all by herself but for some reason, this time her heart seemed to beat faster and just by looking at him butterflies in her stomach were doing their job. She was sure that could do just one meal with him without losing her guard. "What did you bring?" she asked sitting on the sofa opposite him. She had chosen a single lone so that he could not join her on it. "Are you going to sit there?" he asked tilting his head. Lila was wiping down the table while Damien sat with his legs crossed. "Are you not going to leave?" she asked dropping the paper towel in hand angrily at the table. She had told him that it was only that she cleaned up since he was the one that brought the meal. She thought that volunteering to clean would make him leave. He got comfortable with his legs crossed as he slipped out of the bottled water in his hands. "I am sensing that you want me out of here" he said. She rolled her eyes because she knew that he was only saying that because he did not want to leave. "I thought you were going to leave as soon as we were done with the meal" she said picking up the towel and wiping down once again. "When did I ever say that?" he replied with one eyebrow raised at her. "I thought that was the deal we had" she said standing up and staring at the table to determine if it was clean enough for her to stop. She felt satisfied with her efforts so she trashed the paper towel and picked up a

"Damien?" Rosa said as she saw him walk towards her in the garden. "I did not know you were coming over today," she added, and he smiled sadly, sitting beside her in the chair. "I also did not know that I was going to come over; it was kind of an impromptu thing," he confessed. "What is it with that expression on your face?" she asked. "What expression?""You look sad, but it is a different kind from the one I am used to," she said. He always looked sad, carrying around a gloomy face since Amber died. She always thought that it might be a good idea if he found someone who knew and loved him, but somewhere deep inside her, she wanted her daughter to be remembered a bit more. She was afraid that if she told him to do that, he might take it so seriously that her daughter would be a forgotten memory faster than one could think. That was the reason she never suggested it to him. She feared that the expression on his face was him coming to tell her that he had found someone and was goin

Tessa smiled at her daughter's report, and then she put the phone down on the table. She raised her head to meet Damien's gaze. "What do I owe the pleasure of meeting with Damien Calloway?" Tessa asked, leaning in and using her to trace the edge of the table. "Would you like anything to eat or drink?" Damien said instead of answering her. "It's already past ten; I had breakfast," she replied and then added in a low tone. "I am not an animal after all." "I am yet to have breakfast. I guess I must be an animal, but I need breakfast, so I will get you a cup of water and a few pastries for the table," he said, standing up and going to the counter to order. Tessa wondered why he had so much confidence. She knew him and his father when they suddenly rose to fame and how he changed the history of everything around him. He had been so influential that his past suddenly did not matter to everyone around him. Those who would have nitpicked at everything were comfortable with it all. Damien

Lila wanted to check on Damien to see if he was hurt in the fight, even if it was most unlikely that anything like that would happen. She was still worried, but how would he believe anything if she was calling him up to check on him after brutally breaking up with him and even going the extra mile to try and convince him that she was done? "I never even got to tell him that I liked him," she murmured to herself. She did not know why it was so important to her, but she wanted to tell him at least once that during their time together she had begun to fall for him before she had to do what was right for herself and her family. THE NEXT MORNING"Damien is asking to meet with me," Tessa said as if she were giving morning updates to the group on the table"Why?" Lila choked out, trying not to sound too excited or curious to hear it. She had to first convince herself that she was capable of getting the job done before she could convince anyone else. He walked into the house hoping that Evangeline was already asleep and he did not need to go back and forth with her today. "Why are you just getting back?" "Since when did you care what time I got back?" Gavin was startled by her voice because he had looked around when he got in and had not seen anything but majorly because the entire place was dark. She watched him look around like a criminal ready to steal something when he came in. She wanted to stand in front of him and rain down cursed but held herself back. Tessa had called her and sent images of Gavin with Lila. She told her that she was against it but her daughter was going back to Gavin. Gavin screamed, tasting blood in his mouth. He spat out what he had been able to pull and moved up to Damien. He knew that he would not be able to win against this man, but the pride he felt in his heart was not going to allow him to back down. "What do you also think you are doing?" Damien asked, closing the gap between them so that they were now touching chest to chest and their faces so close to each other that if they tipped a bit, they might be kissing. "I asked you first; why don't you answer?" Gavin asked. He knew he should not be doing anything like this, but maybe the confidence that Lila was beside him now was giving him some kind of push. "What?" Damien let out a surprised laugh. "You must think that you are a big shot now," he added. "You punched first, and for what?" Gavin's eyes darted around, trying to f

Where did she see such confidence from, and how did she develop it?"With your ex? With the man who married another woman? Are you with a married man?" Damien's voice came out as a mixture of anger and concern for her. She could see that all was wrong, but she had to defend herself. What if Damien began to see her as a loose person who did not care about herself? "It is just a friendly date, and I do not think any of this is your business," she murmured, trying to look away. "You do not think any of this is my business?" He said, taking a deep breath as if to stop himself from exploding. "And what is a friendly date?" he asked with a puzzled expression on his face. "Why? I thought you two looked together," Gavin said. He was brimming with so much joy, but he could not show it. He was supposed to be a married man. How did he show so much happiness just because she was going to be with him if all went well? "We were a good match, but he liked me more than I liked him, and in relationships like that, it is hard to keep up, and as I said earlier, I still loved you; I liked you so much that I could not move on," she lied, and her throat felt itchy as she lied so much. "I am a married man," Lila wanted to call his bluff; he was acting hard to get, and to what end? He had been brimming from ear to ear, and now he wanted to act as if he were faithful to his wife. "I know this is wrong, but are you saying that all of the feelings you have for me are all gone?" She asked, and he stood there, watching her. "If you tell me that you do not have a single feeling for me again, I will not disturb you again." Gavin sat there and watched her without a word. "

She looked at him shocked at his actions; she wanted to ask him why he was acting like such a gentleman and standing up when she got into the room. Pulling out the chair for her? She remembered their dates as a couple and how he was always nonchalant towards her. She licked her lips and shook her head, trying to act as if it were normal for him to act like this. "Thank you," she murmured instead of asking him what had come over him. She slipped into the chair, and he put it on a bit before going back to the seat opposite her. She hated the way they had to sit opposite each other and stare into their souls as if nothing was wrong with it. "You are welcome," he replied, taking up the menu and giving it
