"You all know that I am against your plan to get back at Lial. I have not met her for one day, but I think she sounds like a very nice girl, and she has served her time. The government has freed her, so why are you trying to get her back in there?"

"Does a person become good just because the government freed them? Are you saying the government is incapable of making mistakes?" Damien asked.

As he left the Voss family house, he called Sam up so they could meet and discuss. Sam told him that he was with a client and that he would meet him at his house in a few hours. Sam came bearing a bottle of champagne that they were now downing as they spoke.

"Come on, she was a first-time offender; she panicked and ran away; she came back to turn herself in; she showed great remorse in court and kept asking to meet with the victim's family, but neither of you came forward to meet with her. I think it is safe to say that she would not be making that kind of mistake again."

"Lila, you look breathtaking," Arietta squealed. All day they had been fussing over her, doing her hair and makeup, and even massaging essential oils into her odyssey. She had no choice but to sit still; after all, she was the one who came up with the idea of showing herself to the world. "I do?" The makeup artist had forbidden her from checking herself in the mirror until he was done performing his magic, and now he was done. "I wish I could look this good," Arietta responded. She took the hand mirror and brought it to her. Check yourself out." "Well, who is this woman that I can barely recognize?" Lila murmured, looking at herself. The makeup made her look a bit different, but not in a bad way. "I think you look fantastic," Arietta said in a squeal. "And so do you." "Oh, please, you are just flattering me because you feel like it would make me feel better." "Of course not. You do look good, and it is important for the first stage of our plan." "Do you think it would work?" A

"She must be really busy, and that is the reason why she cannot make it," Oliver said, trying to proffer a solution. He knew very well that his mother was not busy; when he had called her, she told him that she was not yet ready to come back to the city, even if it meant showing up for her daughter. "Why on earth are you making excuses for her? Is she busy tasting food around? Or busy clubbing?" "She has a project that...""That is a lie and we do not know it." "Lila, she still...""Loves me?" She was really going all out to cut him off that evening. "Is that what you are going to say? How can she act like this and still call herself my mother?" "Tonight is a joyful night, and if we let things like this sour our mood just at the star of the night, it would be good for us," Oliver said. He was yet to figure out what had gone wrong between both of them and as much as he was trying to mend their relationship, it seemed it got worse. "You know what?" Lila asked, calling loudly. "You

He held her and after a while she pulled away and went back to get chocolates, she picked it up and I inspected it with a big smile across her face."You seem glad" "You know me so well, you even remembered my favourite box of chocolates" "How can I ever forget what the lady of the house likes?" Smith asked. Lila took it from him and opened it. She took one out and popped it in her mouth allowing the flavor to fill her mouth. "This is exactly what I needed" Lila said closing her eyes as she savoured the taste. "So divine" she added in a murmur. "Your mom wishes she could be here today but she has a lot going on with her" Smith said. "She sure does" Lila would have wished that he did not bring her up now. If her assistant could make it out here what could she be busy with that she could not spare a few hours. "You sound like you do not be

"Your date is here," Smith announced after a while."My date is here? He is an hour late." After waiting for about thirty minutes, Lila had been so irritated, and she gave Smith one of two options: either he drove her there by himself or he allowed her to go up and change her clothes. Smith had been able to convince her to stay, and at that time all he said was "Ten more minutes." He had been worried to the point that he decided to go out and make calls to figure out what was going on. Calling Oliver was a waste of time because he did not know anything. "I do not want to go with him; can you just drive me?" "Ms Lila I wish I could, but I am sure your brother is trying to do something with the situation here, and that is the reason he is asking you to come with him," Smith explained. "I know that he has a plan, but I do not care about his plan now. All I care about is showing up at the event venue; everyone must have been bored out of their minds waiting." Lila stood up and began t

"What?" she asked, raising her eyebrow at him while trying her best not to act as if his compliment had done something to her. "What? He asked because he knew that she should have melted at her age; she looked good. "I said that you look absolutely beautiful tonight," he said, and at this point, she had found a way to diminish his confidence. He was unsure of what he was supposed to say or do, so he blinked, and she shrugged. "Did you think complimenting me would make the fact that you came late without any explanation go away?" she asked. "Of course not; I was just stating an observation that I expected." "Well, good. Thank you so much for the compliment. Do you want to explain yourself now?" she asked. Damien took a deep breath and wondered if his friend's plan was ever going to work. Sam had mentioned the possibility that Lila was a different breed of woman; many women might be less hostile to you if you compliment her, but she was definitely not in that category. "Are you go

"Hi, Ms. Carson." Lila looked around her to see who this strange man standing in front of her was. He stretched his hand for a handshake, and her eyebrow knitted in confusion. "Who are you?" "Oh my bad, I should have introduced myself first," Sam said, retracing his hand. "I am Sam Damien's best friend." "He has friends?" Lila was confused. "What is that supposed to mean?""I never expected you to have friends given your picky personality, but it seems like you do have friends, which is weird," Lila let out. "Oh my gosh, you are spot on. I wonder why I stayed friends with him all this while." "You must have been doing such hard work on your part.""It has truly been hard work." Lila stretched forth her hand to him this time, and he took it, shaking it gently before letting it go. "I am Lila," she said. "I know, but what I did not know was how fun and beautiful you are." Arietta clutched Oliver's hand as they walked into the hall. "You seem nervous; it is not your first time attending events like this," Oliver said. Arietta raised her head to look at him. He sounded nervous, but he refused to even look at her; she rolled her eyes and shook her head. "I am not nervous; I am just a bit worried about Lila. Do you think the bullying would come to an end if she gets introduced as a Carson?" she said. She was truly worried for Lila, but she was sure that many people would try to get to her good graces when they knew who she was. She was more concerned about the plan she had made with Lila; her mind was spinning as she thought about the feasibility of the plan. "I hope it does, but we can never tell what these people are capable of," Oliver said. "But when they bully her now, they very well know what they are getting into," he added, and she nodded. Arietta entered the bathroom, and luckily for her since there were not a lot of people around yet, the bathroom was empty, but she checked all of the stalls just to be sure. She stood in front of the mirror, washed her hands, and retouched her face makeup before washing her hands and rubbing on her hand cream. "I cannot believe I am doing this; I do not know how to flirt; I cannot remember the last time I flirted," she groaned, staring at herself. She turned out of the bathroom and met Evangeline on her way out. "Are you not going to say hi?" Evangeline asked, entering the bathroom, taking up a tissue paper, and dabbing her lips. Arietta looked her up and down and wondered why she was so overdressed for an event like this. She was not a guest of honour and most likely would not have gotten an invite if Lila had not pulled any strings to get them invited. They would have gotten to know the same time that every other person was getting to know, but Lila said she needed to see the exp

By the time Rosa had made sure they had enough cookies that their tooth hurt, Kevin retired to his room and then they went to the grave site. Kevin had stayed down not because he wanted to but because Rosa was suddenly herself and was now bossing him around as she used to do before. "It is going to be a long ride to the grave. Are you sure you do not want me to get anything for you?" "Anything to eat?" Lila asked, shocked. She had never been filled with cookies before; they say that there is a first time for everything and this was truly a first for her. "Yes, maybe some bread or just anything," Rosa replied and Lila shook her head. "Don't be shy and tell me; even if we don't have it at home, I will stop over at the store and get it for you." Rosa's offer sounded sweet but Lila was sure that she did not need to eat anything again. "I am fine," Lila said and then they left for the car. Lila helped Rosa into the car before turning around and getting in by herself. "We can go now," s

She pointed to the camera that Lila seemed to have missed and then she raised her phone and waved it to her. "I have been watching you for a while now" she added. "Where do you think you are going?" Tessa asked as Lila descended from the stairs. Lila had expected a scolding from her mom because she allowed the plan fall through but insisted she just gave her a look and went into her room. This was the first time she was seeing her since she got inside last night. "To see Amber" "But Amber is dead" Tessa words came out without any form of remorse. "She is" Lila breathed out. "She is dead but I am going to her grave to say hello and apologize for making her leave this world earlier than she was supposed to. "Why do you have to be the one to apologize for that?" Aletta asked walking into the room and standing by the door frame. "If I feel guilty then don't you think that I need to apologize?" "So you are apologizing to clear your guilt?" "I have to say you are pretty good with kids," Rosa said as they approached them. Damien and Jason had played so much that Lila was afraid that the boy was now attached to him in just a few hours. It kind of made her feel bad that the thing that took her weeks to do just took him less than an hour to achieve. "You doubted me," he said, and he felt the need to impress. "I used to volunteer at an orphanage every weekend until I got too busy," he said with a proud tone. Both ladies did not miss that he was trying to humble brag but it was obvious that he was terrible at it. "You should go back to volunteering there; I am sure that you were making such a great impact; it would be a shame if they had to let you go," Rosa said. "I should?""Of course you should; I think you are better as a volunteer there than as the chairman of your company."
