Sabrina's POV

Charlie giggled happily and immediately stuck the "flag" on top of his sand castle. "Done! This castle is for you, mommy," he said proudly.

I was silent for a moment, feeling emotion flood my heart. "Thank you, honey. Mommy really likes the castle." I stroked his hair, which was already messy from playing. "Does Charlie know? Mommy loves Charlie very much."

Charlie paused for a moment, looking at me with his round eyes. "I love you too, Mom. If you leave again, I'll be sad," he said innocently.

Those words stabbed my heart like a knife. I tried to smile, even though it was hard. "Mommy won't leave again, honey," I promised. Although in my heart, I knew I didn't know how long I could survive this situation.

Charlie smiled again, returning to his imaginary world. He began to decorate his castle with small leaves that he had collected around him. While I sat beside him, watching him lovingly, trying to capture every detail of th

Nicholas’s POV I slowly turned the wheel, leaving behind the cold and shadowed grounds of the police station. The roads were quiet, interrupted only by the blinking of distant red and green lights.I inhaled deeply and exhaled slowly. I couldn’t keep going like this. Sabrina was probably still waiting. And Charlie… he didn’t know any of this, but the adult world around him spun like a vortex that could swallow him at any moment. I wouldn’t let that happen. The car began to move, slowly pulling away from the police station. The radio played a soft jazz tune, but my thoughts were still a mess.I couldn’t forget Hazel’s expression. Not just sadness, but devastation. As if the last of her hope had been crushed. And the worst part? I had been a part of that destruction. My choices. Our unresolved separation. The wounds we ignored for too long.I once thought our breakup was the end of the chaos. Turns out, it was only the beginning of all the broken pieces.Hazel

Nicholas’s POV “You know, Hazel,” I said finally, “I used to believe that underneath everything you did, you still loved Charlie. But today, I don’t understand how you let it come to this…”Hazel sobbed again. “I love him. I love our son more than anything.”“Then why let your anger endanger him?” My voice began to crack.Hazel didn’t answer. She just cried harder, as if each word from me was a blow she couldn’t dodge.“I don’t know what the court will decide,” I said, more calmly. “But one thing’s certain, Hazel… you have to face this. You can’t keep running. And if you really love Charlie, then stop hurting everyone in the name of that love.”Hazel only nodded slowly. Her eyes were hollow, but there was a flicker of something in them—like the first glow of a person finally realizing the depth of the pit she’d dug for herself. The visit time was nearly up. A police officer knocked once on the door.I stood, looking at Hazel one last time before I le

Nicholas’s POV “Can I ask you something?” My voice was softer now, barely audible.“Go ahead,” Mr. Bima replied.“If it’s true… if everything holds up in court, what’s the worst-case scenario for Hazel?”He looked at me—no longer with legal detachment, but with a trace of compassion. “Twenty years, maybe more, if she's found guilty of attempted premeditated murder. Add to that the fraud, manipulation of official records…”“That’s enough,” I interrupted softly.I couldn’t bear to hear the rest. The image of Hazel behind bars, wearing a prison uniform, wasn’t something I could digest—no matter how much she’d hurt me. Even if she tried to have me killed… a part of me still remembered the woman who once wrote me long love letters on my birthday. The woman who leaned against my chest during storms that rattled our home. But maybe… none of that was ever real.I stood slowly. “Let me know when I can see her. Whatever happens, I need to hear it from her.”

Nicholas’s POV The car moved through the thin fog settling over the city, accompanied by a light drizzle. The night sky loomed gray above, as if holding its breath, waiting for answers. I kept my eyes on the road, sharp and steady, even as my focus drifted elsewhere. Every red light felt too long. Every distant honk echoed like a sound I couldn’t quite hear.Hazel.Her name kept circling in my head, dragging up every memory I had buried. Our arguments. Her tears. The small lies I used to dismiss as harmless. But now? God, I didn’t even know where to begin processing this. Arrested? On what grounds? Is she hiding something again?I growled low under my breath. A part of me wanted to believe this was all a mistake. A misunderstanding. But my instincts told a different story. This wasn’t a coincidence. Especially after Adrian’s name resurfaced a few weeks ago. I’d been ignoring the signs for too long—thinking the past was sealed shut, when in fact, it wa

Sabrina's POV “But Mika laughed! So that means it’s funny, right?” he said proudly, making our table even more lively.Nicholas chuckled and patted my shoulder. “Our kid… future comedian in the making.”“Dad, when I grow up, can I work on TV?” Charlie asked seriously.“Of course. Just don’t end up on the crime news,” Nicholas quipped, sending another wave of laughter around the table. The food finally arrived: honey-roasted chicken, fried rice, corn soup, and fries for the kids. The delicious aroma instantly made everyone hungry. As the meal began, conversations flowed naturally. Mrs. Anya shared how her child had just learned to read three-letter words. Mr. Rendra mentioned their plans for a family picnic during the upcoming school break. Meanwhile, Charlie and Mika started a “guess the taste” game, covering their eyes and sampling vegetables one by one.“This is a carrot!” Mika shouted.“No, it’s corn!” Charlie corrected him.“But it’s ora

Sabrina's POV The third event—a cotton ball blowing contest—was announced next. This one wasn’t a team event, so Charlie joined his friends. We sat by the side of the field, watching from behind a small fence that separated the spectators from the games.“Look at our boy go,” Nicholas said softly.I followed his gaze and smiled. Charlie leaned toward the table, cheeks puffed, eyes laser-focused like he was saving the world. When the cotton ball finally reached the finish line, he threw his arms up and jumped in the air.“Mom! Dad! I won!”Nicholas and I stood up and clapped, calling out to him. “You’re amazing, honey!” I cheered.Charlie ran toward us, breathless but beaming. “I really won!”“You truly are incredible,” I whispered, hugging him tight. And deep down, I knew—this day wasn’t about medals or trophies. It was about showing up. About laughing together. About proving to Charlie that he was loved—not just with words, but with time. After a fe
