Chapter three

It was three days later and on the day of the wedding, Zoey sat on a stool in her room while Eva helped her out with some makeup on her face. 

Once she was done, she stood up with the large and long wedding gown she wore, it was out of her size but Mrs Sebastian did not care about that and went ahead to purchase a larger size. 

She held onto the rim of the big wedding gown in other to prevent herself from falling through it and downstairs stood Her father, stepmother, and Sasha all dressed in the most beautiful and expensive designer. 

“ Oh my God Zoey, you look so beautiful! ”. Mrs. Sebastian expressed and she could feel the sarcasm in her voice. 

“ I told your mother that this was the perfect size for her and I guess I was right”. Sasha chipped in and chuckled. 

“ Ignore them, Zoey, you just need to get through today and you will be out of this house”.

Eva who stood beside her whispered, Zoey forced a smile on her face and stride towards them. 

“ I know that this is difficult for you, but thank you for doing this, remember that you are getting married to a CEO and do not need to do any chores any longer”.

 Mr. Sebastian expressed, squeezing her arm softly. 

“ Except that what she will be cleaning will be the blood of his victims”. Sasha exclaimed and both Mother and daughter goggles, but Zoey rolled her eyes at them and hurried outside. 

They all arrived at the venue, a large church where the priest was already waiting with a few guests who looked important and sophisticated. 

Zoey stood at the gate, fiddling with her fingers nervously, Eva who noticed her sweating and tensed grabbed her arm and squeezed them tight. 

“ You will be fine, just stay calm, you do not need to live with him after the wedding”.

“ After the wedding, he becomes my husband, there is no way I am living elsewhere”.

“ I still have an apartment at Forte Street just in case you ever need some time away from the marriage to cool off and of course, you know where I always stash the keys right? ”.

“ I could forget when it was I who taught you the trick”. Zoey expressed and they both laughed briefly, the air around them became more calm. 

“ I am thirty Eva, could you help me with a bottle of water while we wait for the groom? ”.

“ Sure! Stay put, I will be right back”. Eva exclaimed and scurried out of there in search of a bottle of water. 

Zoey bit her lower lip nervously while waiting for the groom and just then, Sasha walked up to her, a smirk across her lips. 

“  What do you want Sasha? ”.

“ Nothing much just wanted to congratulate you on becoming Mrs. Clint, I can feel the sarcasm in it”.

“ You can feel what? ”. Zoey inquired puzzled. 

“ Are you so dumb that even till now you still do not get it, perhaps this is karma coming to hunt you for all your bad deeds”.

“ If there is anyone that karma is ever going to hunt, then that will be you and your monster of a mother! ”.

“ You do not speak about my mother like that, and if not that you are in a terrible situation as it stands, I would have smacked you pretty hard right now”.

“I dare you too! ”.

“ Oh! You don't have to worry, Zander Clint will be the one smacking you from now on the same way he did to your boyfriend Williams Clint”.

 The words rang a bell in her heart and almost set her at the edge, but Zoey clenched her fist tight and did not dare make a move. 

“ Why would you mention Williams in all of this, even in death, you won't let him be? ”.

“ Are you this dumb not to realize that they bear the same last name and are related, the Clint family? ”.

“ No, Willaims was from Los Angeles while Zander is from Chicago, because they bear the same last name does not mean that they are related.”.

“ Oh, my step-sister, you are so dumb to the extent that you do not even listen to the news, five ago, the same year your Williams died, Mr. Zander Clint was convicted of murder for killing his only brother who also bear the name Williams”.

 Sasha explained and Zoey immediately froze, her heart beating so fast that she had to clutch onto her chest, she could feel her stomach tightened, but Sasha giggled so loud, enjoying her expression. 

“ Tell me Zoey how are you going to be able to wake up every day to the face of the man who murdered the love of your life! ”. Sasha exclaimed again and Chuckled before striding away, leaving Zoey in a state of daze. 

When she finally got a grip of herself, she held onto the edge of the large wedding gown she wore and dashed out of there, running as fast as she could without halting for a moment to catch her breath. 

Eva comes back with a cold bottle of water, but Zoey is nowhere to be found. 

“ Where is Zoey, Mr Clint is here! ”. Mr. Sebastian announced but Eva pressed her lips into a thin line perplexed as to what was going on. 

“ I can't find her anywhere”.

“ What do you mean you can't find her? ”

“ She was here a few minutes ago but I stepped out to get her a bottle of water and returning, she wasn't here! ”. Her eyes widened in shock, not able to fathom what was going on. 

“ Mr. Clint is waiting at the altar and requests that the bride be ushered in”.

Mrs. Sebastian announced, scurrying over to her husband and Eva who stood perplexed at the door. 

“ Zoey is gone! ”. Sasha walked up to them and announced with a blank expression on her face. 

“ What do you mean she is gone? ”. Alex and his wife asked in unison. 

“ I saw her running out of the gate while clasping onto her wedding gown, guess she chickened out”.

Elizabeth could feel her heart beating fast while Alex's hands were trembling, the thought of what Zander would do to him sent shivers down his spine while he tried to look calm. 

His eyes moved fast and tried to come up with a solution, some distinguished guests had flown from outside Chicago to be there, and busy board members of Clint Empire all suspended their busy schedule to be there. 

Alex wasn't sure what he was going to say to them or if he might survive the wrought of Zander Clint, he felt like an idea struck him, and turned to Eva who was now sweating profusely. 

“ Eva! You are her best friend, where could she be? ”.

“ I do not know Sir! ”.

“ What do you mean you do not know, you are the only one that should be able to know where she might be”.

“ She flew her wedding, you wouldn't go to a place where she will be found”. Eva exclaimed and Alex realized that there was some hint of truth in her words, she was a very persistent girl, and if she did not want to be found, she wouldn't even if they turned the entire city upside down. 

Just then, Mr. Zander Clint strutted out of the hall accompanied by his bodyguards, he furrowed his brow with a dark stare that was piercing at Mr. Alex and Alex knew that he was in for some trouble.
