Gwenn

It’s coronation day and I knew that I was supposed to feel happy at this but I wasn’t. Instead all I felt was calmness like something was coming and my mind was preparing me for it.

“You look not so bad. Although I think the robes will be better if it covers your ugly mug of a face.” Themis teased.

Her words forced a laughter out of me, I was not expecting her words but it was welcomed. She reminded me of the time where we would argue and insult each other. A war was looming then but we were happy and building our friendship. Now we had to grow up or rather, I had to grow up. Themis battle has passed and what is left is mine.

“What if I fail?” I asked Themis, my tone low and my head down as if I was scared of his answer. “What if as a queen, I fail them Themis.”

“Did I fail in my duty?” Themis asked and I glared at her. Why the question, was she not the one wh

After the coronation, the celebration which I was hardly a part of because I was lost in my thoughts, I sat there and smiled so much my cheeks hurt but it didn’t change the fact that I knew or rather, felt that something was brewing and a storm was coming.“You seem distracted my love.” Arius kissed my hand as he removed his gaze from his people, some who were dancing, others eating, mingling with smiling faces. Not a lot of nobles were invited but the ones who were took most of the space in the room.“We might be Yama and Alal but it doesn’t change the fact that nothing has changed between us.” I returned to him absently, noting his sister. Silana looked positively happy, like she was the mother of the bride at the wedding or something while his youngest sister Eliana was smiles but reserved. She was the only one in his family I deemed as redeemable, the rest would learn after they had been punished one too many ti

Gwenn povThe speed which I used to get ready was something which I was not sure was humane therefore, letting Orel see it but he didn’t make a comment. Not like I would welcome it, I had to see Arius and that was the only thing that was in my mind.Along with other thoughts which just flashed through but did not take the whole of my attention. Thoughts like what might have happened to Gwenn, and why since she just chose to leave just the other night here. There was no reason for her death and it felt really strange.“Do you want to see where they dropped Gwenn first?” Orel asked me as I ushered the two of us out of my room quickly so I can lo k the door behind him.“No, I want to see my husband.” I replied and loved towards the throne room where Arius would be in and if he is not there then he would be in his office which was close to the throne room. As I made a move past Orel, Orel gripped my hand.

Arius povI didn’t understand the kind of news I have been getting since I woke up, or rather I had been awakened because of it. How could someone do that to Faye?I was still disoriented by the fact that someone could kill Faye, in my palace with blatant disregard for me. When Silana refused to allow me to see her corpse, I knew it was something worse off and to keep me from going behind her back to see Faye and convince myself that this is not real and that maybe just maybe they had the wrong person and Faye had already left early that morning to avoid the stares and side comments, Silana was with me. Babysitting me like I am younger than her and not her older brother.“Are you sure that it is Faye?” I asked Silana who was sitting beside me in the chair that was meant for Gwenn, the only reason why I allowed her to sit there was because I knew she was the only other person from Northshore who Gwenn will have not issues with.

Gwenn povMy eyes went soft as Arius words. “Arius.”His name escaped my lips in silent words and I stood up from my seat so I can go to his and hug him and this I did while I sat on his laps.“I cannot believe it.” He breathed out as his hands ran through his face.“I am so sorry that something like that happened to her. This should not be, who is evil enough to do something this bad.” I griped.“Bad?” Arius asked me, leaning back into his seat as he looked at me.“Yes.” I nodded. “Bad is not enough to describe the action of this person…” I continued as Arius nodded.“I didn’t get enough time to see Faye’s body this morning, what was done to her?”“She was raped brutally and her skull bashed in…” I started only to freeze when I saw Arius face. He was getting d

Gwenn pov.“Why Gwenn, I would be a thousand times better than him for you.” Sorens tortured voice was the first thing that greeted me as I came into the empty courtyard which was void of every person except Sorens. The light spring which I was walking with turned to me dragging my feet, slow to approach Sorens who was sharpening his sword. Something which was already bloody sharp. It didn’t matter if I dragged my feet or not, Sorens knew it was me and although his head was still facing his sword, I knew he was very aware of every step I made.“I love you Gwenn with everything and he just decides to pay you attent…” Sorens started.“Enough Sorens.” I stated firmly while Sorens raised his head to look at me, his eyes were red and he looked exactly how his voice sounds. “Let’s stop this here.” I plead.“Feelings don’t work like th

“So you and Yama…” Sorens said as he sat beside me the next morning on the table. “I never expected to see it since it has not been long that you were hitting him on the face and he was giving other woman the heir to his throne. Those are things that you women don’t forgive easily. I think you forgive because you are a commander. Heavens know that female commanders are strange.” He concluded just around the same time I concluded that this was not Sorens.“Sorian, what do I owe this honor to?” I asked wryly.“I should be asking that question since I am the one who is gracing the table with the beautiful Alal of the Northshore Empire, you are looking really radiant, how many rounds?” Sorian returned.“I am wondering what your mother did to you and your mouth when you were younger.” I mused out loud as he started laughing, just as Arius entered with his brother.

Arius PovI was happy with Gwenn, deliriously so that I couldn’t help but feel guilt that I didn’t even mourn for Faye, neither did I feel for Sorens who was ahead of me in recognizing what a gem I have as a wife. I was still thankful that she was my l=wife when she met Sorens if not, he would have been the one being happy right now and I would be repeating the mistakes of my predecessors by having multiple women who would do nothing but poison each other and make my home a battlefield. One woman solved everything, I almost made that mistake with having two women but fate through a means I didn’t like, corrected my error and I don’t make the same mistake twice. And that is why the Mareikura in front of me needed to go.“Tell me, are you married?” I asked her as she brushed against me for the umpteenth time.“No, My Yama. My whole being is free to serve you in any means you require.&r

“What am I hearing?” I snapped as the man tried to stand, when I saw his face, I realized that he was Isolde’s father.“Yama…” He started crying as the people who were holding him, let go of him and with his loud sobbing as the only sound filling the room, he crawled to me.“My daughter. Gone.” He added.I raised my head to look at my queen who had tears in her eyes even though her expression was pinched as if she was angry.“What happened?” I asked the man who cried as he narrated everything to me, after he did, I was silent as my rage grew, this was getting out of hand and certainly a huge blow to the empire at large. A whole legion dying like that.“See to his needs.” Gwenn ordered and then she took my hand and led me to the throne where she forced me to sit down. Me sitting down just made it more pronounced, the weight on my shoulders.

24 YEARS LATER. Gwenn Pov “I want to run a sword through you so badly that the feeling is visceral. After all these years together I cannot believe you still are a bigoted two timing jerk.” I yelled as I stormed into the throne room, Arius behind me. “I am Yama, I cannot be seen as the fool being controlled by the Alal. It would undermine my ruling…” Arius tried explaining but he just made me even more furious than usual. “Your ruling… I am right and the whole kingdom is aware of that, the forgotten world should not be explored.” “It has been over twenty years. I know that you don’t want it to be explored and that was why I came up with the suggestion that I did. Let it be explored by a selected group of youth, freed from the machinations of the council and led by our children. But you had to spoil it by talking out of turn.” “Did you hit your head without my knowledge?” I asked surprised. Whatever makes

Gwenn Pov“You and Orel will soon be going back won’t you?” I asked. Throughout that day, I had caught Themis and Orel sent each other glances.“Yes. We have to, our work here is almost done and we need to go back.” Themis answered. She would have given me more information but I had a feeling she stopped because I was no longer their citizen. I was now a Northerner. So was she but her loyalty lies with Dar because she was married to one of the rulers.“Almost?” I asked her.“Yes we still have one more task to do. Your curse has been broken and Arius own also has, the empire is slowly flourishing and getting itself back. It has been just three months but the repairs are almost done. Northshorians certainly do not let anything keep them down for long.”I winced at her words.“We prefer Northerners.” I answered as she smiled. “But I stil

Arius Pov I cannot believe that I slept through the period where my country was hijacked and my brother was possessed by an evil spirit that eventually killed him. Kastav was not evil, all he was, was greedy. Maybe I could have prevented this if I had listened to Gwenn warning at first. Gwenn thinks the death of others were on her but she could not be further from the truth. They were on me.Gwenn was Alal, her role was to keep the peace, mine was to fight if the peace was threatened. She was a foreigner and she had no vested interest in saving Northshore but she still did. She had nothing to feel, no weight to carry.I was supposed to carry them all because I could have prevented the death of my sister and Sorens and my councilors too but I did not. I chose to ignore the words of a seer. My fault but now, things are strange and Northshore us not as we know it to be. Old records are being dug. T

Gwenn Pov“You have to stand up and stop moping.” Orel started. “You have been lying in bed for two days now, you don’t have the luxury of lying around, not when you have a kingdom to restore and a husband to find.”“Sorens is dead Orel. He died because of my order that he should protect the king, if he is dead than Arius also is.” I stated as I sniffled while holding on to Elison’s hand while he laid beside me.“But…” Orel started but I grew annoyed.“Only three council members remaining, my husband dead, Sorens dead and his siblings, four dead. These are only the deaths I am aware of, excluding a legion which is dead and you are trying to tell me that I am not at fault. If I never came here, this would never have happened. This is all my fault.” I screamed at Orel and when Elison face wrinkled as he ope

Themis PovI had appeared at the right time. Gwenn was in shock, staring at a body on the ground. Without looking at the body, I knew that it was Silana, one of the blind spots in my gift. A blind spot that might have saved the world.“Would you look at that, the same way I killed Sorens, I also killed that brat. The next on the list is you.” Kastav crackled as he moved towards Gwenn in a leisured pace.I could not allow that to happen, there was not much I could do except throw a dagger, which I collected from Orel, his way. I needed to get Gwenn to snap out of her mind and tell her what I learnt. She needed to tap into my gift so she could win. When the dagger met its mark, I ran towards Gwenn even as he grunted.“You.” He growled as he sent something my way but it never had the chance to reach me becau

Themis PovI was tired of falling. I have been falling for what felt like hours now because since Kastav sent us into the portal he created, I have not been able to stop falling. My only consolation is that Orel and my son has been on the same length as me, no one of us ever leaving the same length so we could keep each other in the same eyesight. That should have been the first marker for me but I had ignored it. We stopped shouting when the fall did not stop and even started conversing and that was when something different happened.“I wish this would just end soon.” Orel grated.“It should have ended because we are not of the same weight and yet we are still falling at the level of falling.” I voiced“My wife must be tired of viewing my face since she wants me to fall faster.” Orel replied wryly.“No, that is not it.

Catia povMy brother is possessed by a drude. That alone makes him unable to rule but I would not be the person to tell him that, not when the last few people who did, died. I now know why Silana said I was the biggest scum at Kastav side. I pushed him to this. If I had allowed him to be contented with his life when he was just a prince and stop his ambitions then maybe this would have never happened. And now I was on my way to see my favorite brother who killed three of my other brothers and made me his queen. The only time I was ever this scared was when Father became ill and even then, he was present to calm me down but who is going to calm me of my fear from him.“You took your time.” Kastav growled the minute I entered the throne room. A room that has become his favorite in the castle even though he hardly do anything in it.“I got the message le

I wanted to ask so many questions, so badly but I could not. My tongue was tied as I watched the entity that was partly inside me since. I apparently crossed the world of the living to their world. I had passed through a physical gate and landed myself here both body and spirit.“Am I still alive?” I questioned.“Yes.” She laughed. “Very much so. Oh how I wished that I could get to spend time with you and know you, my newer self but I cannot. Time has ran out and our world is in jeopardy. Both of our worlds. You need to defeat Mazikeen but for that to happen, we need to go back to the beginning because for the future to be safe once more, the genesis of it all has to be known. Are you ready?” She asked.I nodded my replied. I have been ready ever since I started this journey.“Mazikeen did not go out looking for power, he stumb

“What is going on?” Catia approached me the moment, I entered. I watched as our other siblings eyed us, my brothers especially. They must have guessed what was.“What mother wanted for me.” I replied my sister. I watched as Catia eyes farrowed as she tried to reason what I said. I saw the exact moment she understood. The joy in her gaze and then she hugged me.“I am happy brother. Congratulations.” She replied before she went back to our siblings.I walked to the throne, the direction which everybody was facing and in front of everybody, I sat down in the seat meant for Yama. Utter silence filled the room, regardless of the people in it. All eyes on me as they realized that this was me over throwing my brother.“Any questions?” I asked.“What about the king…” A Mareikura asked
