Arius
I cannot believe that Gwenn was that free with Sorens who is just her second in command and she didn’t even notice that he was looking at her like she hung the stars and moon.
I was not okay with Sorens being close to Gwenn at all. I needed to talk to him about this little crush of his that he is nursing for my wife. My. Wife!
Someone who will never be his, he knew of this fact before I sent him off with her. Was I wrong to tell him to keep a close look on her?
And to think she slapped me because of him!
I know that I was a little out of line but Gwenn always brings out that part in me, I was just stating my interest. I don’t want the whole of Northshore to doubt my son’s parentage.
Gwenn will never win in a war against me and if it was a war that she was looking for, a war she will get. It was time I make good the terms she agreed to about making heirs. That will guarantee that she does not do anything with Sorens.
I
GwennI came back to the palace to see Arius pacing round just outside the gate, I was not in the mood for whatever he wanted.“Husband alert. I heard you punched him when you came around the first time and this morning, you slapped him.”“Really? You heard already?” I cringed at what the people who had not seen me will think of me who always hit their king.“The news is everywhere, people are already thinking of you as a queen who does not take nonsense and that is a good thing in my book.” Sorian added.“This was not the impression I wanted to have…” I said but Sorian shook his head.“It should be, but can you try and do any of those things now, I want to tell people that I had a first-hand experience of seeing you put the king in his place.” Sorian said.“He is standing right in front of you.” Sorens tell his brother who raised an eyebrow at him?“So? Can you Gwenn?” He asked as Sorens inhaled a loud br
GwennI felt Sorens direct me to a seat to sit down, a seat which one of the council members provided, at least they were not all dense not to see how much this hurt.“I am sorry.” I said with a laugh as I looked around the room, this time, none of them were bold enough to meet my gaze. “I thought I heard something like, My husband already has a child on the way and this child is not mine.”When nobody could look at me, I finally looked at Arius direction. He couldn’t do this to me. I know we had our rough patches but among his deal with Themis, I remember Themis telling me distinctly that one of the terms was no extra family other than the one which I will provide him. This was still hard for me to swallow.“Arius tell them that the child is not yours or something. That was not part of our plans. It was not what we bargained.” I stated, looking at my husband.Arius flinched. “Gwenn…”“Look me in the eyes when you need to t
GwennAfter crying my eyes out, I laid my head on Sorens legs and slept while he kept watch. I was exhausted both physically and mentally.I wish that my dreams would take note of that fact but they didn’t, instead, all they did was to come up with a weird plain. The scene which took place in my dreams was modelled after the one that I saw when I was in my weird trance state, the ceremony and ritual for my ascension as a commander of the Northshore legion. The grassy plains, bathed with a golden light with no sun present, the grasses and scanty trees this time around were green and not the dried up, barely surviving plants I saw last time.“Hello?” I asked softly.“Who am I seeing this time?”“Hello?”I thought this time around I was truly alone until I heard a haunting melody, the woman in Gold came out from inside me and with a gasp, I was struggling to breathe when she held me in her arm and
AriusThe complaints started the next morning after that strange beam of light. I was in my hall when the first set troop in from the distant part of Northshore, they must have been on the road for at least a day and with the worry on their face, they certainly were not there to see their queen.“You need a woman with you when they get here. Faye is here and pregnant with your child if I should remind you, use her.” Kastav said but I glared at him.He betrayed me, he should have told me about Faye coming to meet him instead of telling the council and right now he was trying to push Faye in front of my people. That was not something which I would allow, not now, not ever.“No, I will not present my mistake in front of my people and parade it in front of my Bride, I will not give Gwenn that disrespect.”“You need a woman beside you.” Isolde answered and when I looked at her shock, she hurried and added to her statement.I thought i
Gwenn“My Queen, are you sure you should be here?” Sorens asked for the umpteenth time and this time, I actually felt a twinge of annoyance.“If you are feeling scared Sorens, you can turn back. You know that I would not stop you. I would not even mention it that my second in command is scared of a little light beam.” I teased Sorens who rolled his eyes at my words before he started to refute my claims.“I am not scared of where we are going to, I am concerned besides, I am sure that different people from parts of the empire will be coming, some to discuss about the weird light which could have been seen far and wide, others will come to congratulate the king and queen since it has not been long you came and if not that one, they want to see you so that they can fuel the gossips by saying that they have seen the foreigner Queen and in all these scenarios it would be wise if you were with the king when they come.”“They will soon be aware of the ki
GwennGetting to the palace, I was not in the mood be confronted by Faye but I didn’t have a choice because she was resting by the door and tapping her foot, when I drew closer, she straightened.“Well done queen Gwenn, what was that little stunt you pulled this morning, you think that the whole revolve around you and you can disappear when you chose to?” Faye demanded standing in front of me and preventing me from moving forward, Sorens eyebrow jumped at the audacity which she had to stop me from advancing forward with her blocking my way. Her hands were on her middle and it was just plain pathetic, I didn’t know how she was doing it, acting like the baby was already a bump when that place was still as flat as ever. I guess she wanted everybody to know of her status.“No, the world does not revolve around me, neither do the world nor me stand still because of you.” I answered her and just because she was drawing attention to her stomach, I made my eyes
Gwenn“My queen, are you okay?” Sorens asked as he laid me on my bed.“I will be fine, when is the afternoon meal?” I asked him and Sorens just looked at me confused before his eyes widened when he realized that I plan on going.“Tell me that you are not considering doing that…” He started but I just stared at him.“You are not fine, you know that you are not. Why will you punish yourself with this?” Sorens said as he paced my room. “You don’t need to be close to those people right now Gwenn, in case you were not aware of what they wanted to do, they wanted to kill you. I felt it in the air and you must have felt it too. Why on earth would you still want to be in their presence now?” He asked as I smiled.“Because it is my duty as queen, we have guests and I need to show my face. I will not let them spin outrageous stories about me to my first gro
AriusThe question was, will she? Will she come to my room and let me have my way with her. I know that it is wrong for me to do that but I needed to make her pregnant as soon as possible.Especially since she was leaving and I want to make her pregnant. If there should be anybody on the throne after me, it should be a child who I want there. I made a big mess of things and I did t know how to correct it.You think that you are correcting it by making new mistakes, mistakes she will never forgive you for?I shut down that thought as I wanted to sit up so I could reach for a drink beside of my bed but my door opened. I leaned back to see who would come through and it was my beautiful wife who wore a modest night cloth and a shawl to make it more modest for long walks.I watched as she closed the door behind her and removed the shawl and then she started undressing.I wanted her to stop but I didn’t say a word. If
24 YEARS LATER. Gwenn Pov “I want to run a sword through you so badly that the feeling is visceral. After all these years together I cannot believe you still are a bigoted two timing jerk.” I yelled as I stormed into the throne room, Arius behind me. “I am Yama, I cannot be seen as the fool being controlled by the Alal. It would undermine my ruling…” Arius tried explaining but he just made me even more furious than usual. “Your ruling… I am right and the whole kingdom is aware of that, the forgotten world should not be explored.” “It has been over twenty years. I know that you don’t want it to be explored and that was why I came up with the suggestion that I did. Let it be explored by a selected group of youth, freed from the machinations of the council and led by our children. But you had to spoil it by talking out of turn.” “Did you hit your head without my knowledge?” I asked surprised. Whatever makes
Gwenn Pov“You and Orel will soon be going back won’t you?” I asked. Throughout that day, I had caught Themis and Orel sent each other glances.“Yes. We have to, our work here is almost done and we need to go back.” Themis answered. She would have given me more information but I had a feeling she stopped because I was no longer their citizen. I was now a Northerner. So was she but her loyalty lies with Dar because she was married to one of the rulers.“Almost?” I asked her.“Yes we still have one more task to do. Your curse has been broken and Arius own also has, the empire is slowly flourishing and getting itself back. It has been just three months but the repairs are almost done. Northshorians certainly do not let anything keep them down for long.”I winced at her words.“We prefer Northerners.” I answered as she smiled. “But I stil
Arius Pov I cannot believe that I slept through the period where my country was hijacked and my brother was possessed by an evil spirit that eventually killed him. Kastav was not evil, all he was, was greedy. Maybe I could have prevented this if I had listened to Gwenn warning at first. Gwenn thinks the death of others were on her but she could not be further from the truth. They were on me.Gwenn was Alal, her role was to keep the peace, mine was to fight if the peace was threatened. She was a foreigner and she had no vested interest in saving Northshore but she still did. She had nothing to feel, no weight to carry.I was supposed to carry them all because I could have prevented the death of my sister and Sorens and my councilors too but I did not. I chose to ignore the words of a seer. My fault but now, things are strange and Northshore us not as we know it to be. Old records are being dug. T
Gwenn Pov“You have to stand up and stop moping.” Orel started. “You have been lying in bed for two days now, you don’t have the luxury of lying around, not when you have a kingdom to restore and a husband to find.”“Sorens is dead Orel. He died because of my order that he should protect the king, if he is dead than Arius also is.” I stated as I sniffled while holding on to Elison’s hand while he laid beside me.“But…” Orel started but I grew annoyed.“Only three council members remaining, my husband dead, Sorens dead and his siblings, four dead. These are only the deaths I am aware of, excluding a legion which is dead and you are trying to tell me that I am not at fault. If I never came here, this would never have happened. This is all my fault.” I screamed at Orel and when Elison face wrinkled as he ope
Themis PovI had appeared at the right time. Gwenn was in shock, staring at a body on the ground. Without looking at the body, I knew that it was Silana, one of the blind spots in my gift. A blind spot that might have saved the world.“Would you look at that, the same way I killed Sorens, I also killed that brat. The next on the list is you.” Kastav crackled as he moved towards Gwenn in a leisured pace.I could not allow that to happen, there was not much I could do except throw a dagger, which I collected from Orel, his way. I needed to get Gwenn to snap out of her mind and tell her what I learnt. She needed to tap into my gift so she could win. When the dagger met its mark, I ran towards Gwenn even as he grunted.“You.” He growled as he sent something my way but it never had the chance to reach me becau
Themis PovI was tired of falling. I have been falling for what felt like hours now because since Kastav sent us into the portal he created, I have not been able to stop falling. My only consolation is that Orel and my son has been on the same length as me, no one of us ever leaving the same length so we could keep each other in the same eyesight. That should have been the first marker for me but I had ignored it. We stopped shouting when the fall did not stop and even started conversing and that was when something different happened.“I wish this would just end soon.” Orel grated.“It should have ended because we are not of the same weight and yet we are still falling at the level of falling.” I voiced“My wife must be tired of viewing my face since she wants me to fall faster.” Orel replied wryly.“No, that is not it.
Catia povMy brother is possessed by a drude. That alone makes him unable to rule but I would not be the person to tell him that, not when the last few people who did, died. I now know why Silana said I was the biggest scum at Kastav side. I pushed him to this. If I had allowed him to be contented with his life when he was just a prince and stop his ambitions then maybe this would have never happened. And now I was on my way to see my favorite brother who killed three of my other brothers and made me his queen. The only time I was ever this scared was when Father became ill and even then, he was present to calm me down but who is going to calm me of my fear from him.“You took your time.” Kastav growled the minute I entered the throne room. A room that has become his favorite in the castle even though he hardly do anything in it.“I got the message le
I wanted to ask so many questions, so badly but I could not. My tongue was tied as I watched the entity that was partly inside me since. I apparently crossed the world of the living to their world. I had passed through a physical gate and landed myself here both body and spirit.“Am I still alive?” I questioned.“Yes.” She laughed. “Very much so. Oh how I wished that I could get to spend time with you and know you, my newer self but I cannot. Time has ran out and our world is in jeopardy. Both of our worlds. You need to defeat Mazikeen but for that to happen, we need to go back to the beginning because for the future to be safe once more, the genesis of it all has to be known. Are you ready?” She asked.I nodded my replied. I have been ready ever since I started this journey.“Mazikeen did not go out looking for power, he stumb
“What is going on?” Catia approached me the moment, I entered. I watched as our other siblings eyed us, my brothers especially. They must have guessed what was.“What mother wanted for me.” I replied my sister. I watched as Catia eyes farrowed as she tried to reason what I said. I saw the exact moment she understood. The joy in her gaze and then she hugged me.“I am happy brother. Congratulations.” She replied before she went back to our siblings.I walked to the throne, the direction which everybody was facing and in front of everybody, I sat down in the seat meant for Yama. Utter silence filled the room, regardless of the people in it. All eyes on me as they realized that this was me over throwing my brother.“Any questions?” I asked.“What about the king…” A Mareikura asked
