Chapter 170

Author: Light Breeze
Melanie left the hospital and headed home. As soon as she got out of the car, she asked Noah, "Where's Liam?"

He had to hold back his laughter when he saw the state she was in. He pointed at the study and said, "He's speaking with Mr. Tyler."

Melanie couldn't care less about her appearance at the moment. Her grandchild was all that mattered.

Tyler and Liam were discussing work in the second-floor study over some tea. Julian would be gone for two months, and there was a lot of work at the company to be dealt with. Someone had to take the reins, and Liam wanted Tyler to go into the office.

As they talked, Melanie barged into the room, looking unkempt and disheveled. As soon as she entered, she cried, "Liam!"

He was startled. He stared at her for a long time before saying, "People would think you were newly widowed with the way you look."

Only then did Melanie notice Tyler. She was a little embarrassed as she said, "Oh, you're here too, Tyler."

She tidied her hair before saying to

Liam's attitude instantly changed when he turned to face Heather. He said amicably, "Heather, feel free to punish Julian however you want since he's made a mistake. I came here with my family to see Willow and the baby."He waved a hand, and Sebastian instructed the men to get the gifts out of the vans. They were all expensive, rare items.Heather smiled faintly with one finger on her temple. "What does the Chapman family's good news have to do with the Zieglers? Take the things back—we can raise the child ourselves. It doesn't need a father like Julian, who has the nerve to elope with someone else."Liam remained polite. "He didn't end up leaving the country."Heather laughed coldly. "Saying that is like telling me a man didn't cheat if he took off his pants but failed to stick it in another woman because he couldn't get it up."Liam cleared his throat awkwardly.Heather didn't want to waste her time and energy on them anymore and said, "Shut the gates! Caleb, see them out."Ca

Willow looked down at Julian and took in his humble attitude. If not for all the pain and suffering she'd experienced because of him, she would probably have been moved to bits.He was one of Brindley's most unattainable men—was there any woman who didn't want him?It was too bad he'd hurt her one too many times. Her heart was in pieces.Julian was like a bottle of venom disguised as honey. He looked nice but was highly poisonous. Willow was scared of the consequences and didn't dare have a taste of him anymore. She murmured, "Forever is a long time—can anyone guarantee anything for that long? Leave, Julian, and don't come here anymore."She pulled her wrist out of his grip and went back inside the house, allowing the darkness of the night to swallow her up, leaving Julian with nothing but a vague view of her green pajamas. He remained on his knees as thunder rumbled in the sky. The raindrops continued to fall, making him feel like he was being shot by arrows as they landed on hi

Even under such circumstances, Julian could remain calm and composed. He considerately shut the door after Heather and Willow and reminded Caleb to drive safely. "Willow is pregnant, so be careful when you drive. Don't make any emergency stops."Caleb gnashed his teeth angrily. He was such a faker!Just then, Julian's phone rang. He glanced at it but didn't answer. That alone was enough for Willow to guess who was calling.Julian said, "Don't worry. I'll deal with it."She didn't say anything. His and Alicia's business had nothing to do with her.Caleb stomped on the accelerator and sped off, deliberately leaving Julian with a mouthful of exhaust fumes. Still, the latter stood there with the maple leaves as his backdrop, watching as the car disappeared from sight. The crimson background only made him seem that much more outstanding.…Julian headed to Heartwell Hospital. Charlie and Nancy were there, comforting Alicia and telling her that Julian wouldn't abandon her.She lean

Willow's frostiness didn't deter Julian. He continued pursuing her.In the middle of the month, Laura came down with something, so Heather and Timothy returned to Cloudspire to care for her. They spent about two weeks there.Willow was due for a prenatal checkup on this day. Braxton had summoned Caleb home, so she was on her own. She was taken aback as soon as she entered the clinic.Julian was there, talking to the doctor. He sat with his back straight, and the gray shirt he wore seemed particularly nice on him. He exuded regality, and he was easy on the eyes.He stared at Willow for a while when she came in before turning to the doctor and saying, "My wife is here."The doctor was reminded of something when she saw Willow. "Oh, so you're Ms. Harper's husband. That means the woman who took the medical records is your mother! She acted out of line, but I suppose it was because she was concerned."Willow smiled faintly. She knew what Julian was capable of—he must have turned on th

Natalie was outside the car. Willow said, "Natalie!"Then, she stepped forward to hug Natalie. It'd been about half a year since they'd last seen each other, and she'd missed her.Natalie leaned against Willow's shoulder and savored the warmth of her body. Then, she looked up and said, "I only got to come back for a week because Jeffrey's getting married. I immediately asked around and came to see you when I heard you were pregnant. This is a gift for the baby from Jeffrey and me.She held out an intricate box. Willow opened it to reveal a glimmering anklet, which evidently hadn't been cheap. It didn't look like something Natalie would have bought.Willow stared at it for a while before tucking it away. Julian got out of the car and saw the anklet. He knew it was from Jeffrey and was bitter when he saw the sorrow on Willow's face. Still, he said, "It's a thoughtful gift."She ignored him. Meanwhile, Natalie stared at him fearfully, looking like she'd seen a ghost. She was genuinel

Jeffrey and Rosabelle's wedding was on Saturday. The church wedding was held in the morning, and the reception dinner was at Westera Estate. It was November, so the Gibson family had spared no expense in ensuring the venue would be at a comfortable temperature. That night, the place was filled with the elite and the famous. The guests made a dazzling scene of flowing gowns and sharp suits.Charlie and his family arrived early. Alicia had been away from Brindley's social circle for many years, so most people had no idea who she was. There was no denying her good looks—several rich men approached her to ask for her number. However, she remained aloof and turned them all down. Nancy was even more so. She said coldly, "My daughter doesn't make friends with just about anyone."For a moment, they were the center of attention. But on the other side, Rosabelle's family was upset. This was her big day, yet Alicia had arrived in white. Was she deliberately trying to steal the show?Rosabel

Willow was about to leave after touching up her makeup when someone entered the restroom. It was none other than Alicia.Their gazes met in the mirror, and Alicia broke the silence. "You and Jeffrey have history, don't you?"Willow looked at her calmly. "What are you trying to say?"Alicia walked over to the sink and turned on the faucet to wash her hands. She said softly, "I don't understand why Julian chose you over me. I'm the one who grew up in an affluent family, and you were abandoned and left in the wild, having to pick up trash to survive."It must be because you're good at acting pitiful. You know how to win his sympathy! But do you think he'll still love you and treat you well when he sees your cruel side?"Willow had an idea of what she was up to. Sure enough, Alicia slapped herself hard, leaving a clear handprint on her face. It looked ghastly.Willow smiled. "Trying to frame me, are you?"Alicia also smiled. "How can you say I'm framing you when you're the one who h

Annie was the one who opened the door. It was late at night and cold in Padstow, yet Julian only wore a thin coat. It was evident this trip was an impromptu one.She appraised him before saying, "Ms. Harper is asleep. I'm sure whatever you want to say can wait until tomorrow."Julian couldn't wait, though. He said, "I'll wait in the lounge for her to wake up."Just then, Willow came out of the bedroom. She wore a cotton robe, and her hair fell softly onto her shoulders. There was a hint of fatigue in her eyes. She looked at Julian for a while and then said, "Come in."He followed them into the room. Annie made a cup of tea before going to her own room.He looked at Willow in the dimly lit room and said, "It won't take long. Alicia only has about three months left."Willow didn't look impressed. "What if she doesn't die? Are you going to keep dragging me and the baby down as sacrifices for the love you harbored as a youth, Julian? You're not her husband, yet you've done everything

"Julian, you're not even 30 yet. You still have plenty of chances to have children of your own. I'm begging you, for the child's sake, please let her go."Willow isn't that weak. She can still write and see. She'll raise the child to be well-mannered and capable. Just let her come home. I promise you'll still get to see the child."Grace said a lot, and Julian just listened quietly until the very end.He neither agreed nor disagreed. He took the tiny pair of shoes from Grace's hands. They were for Landon. The shoes were sky blue and adorable. The soles felt comfortable to touch.Grace showed a kind smile and said, "I know you care about Willow. If it's meant to be, life will find a way to bring you back together. Otherwise, when you have another child someday, I'll sew them a pair of shoes too."Julian choked up. "Grandma."Grace reached out and patted his arm gently. "I know you're a good boy. Just send her back the way you brought her into the Ziegler residence back then. Her

The night was quiet and serene.Julian stood alone in his study, staring out at the endless snow outside. His mind kept replaying the scene of Willow's distorted speech, as well as her tear-streaked face that was filled with despair.Willow herself must've found it unbearable!Julian looked at the night sky, his gaze unreadable. He realized that he seemed to never have truly made Willow happy. All he ever did was hurt her, disappoint her, and make her cry. This wasn't how loving someone was supposed to be.The next morning, Julian didn't appear in her room.Willow washed up on her own. Even if she barely had an appetite, she still walked out to find something to eat for the sake of the baby she carried. As she opened the bedroom door, she froze.Grace was standing outside the door, holding a basket in one hand and Snowy in the other. She stared at Willow with her gentle, loving eyes.Willow stood there in a daze before her lips trembled. In a broken, trembling voice, she cal

The pregnancy hadn't made Willow's body bigger. She was still slender with her dark hair cascading down her shoulders. The hot water streamed down along her shoulder blades, trailing down to the small dip of her waist. There, a small reddish mole stood out."Let me help you."Julian grabbed her by the shoulders, wanting to help her bathe.Willow was startled, so she instinctively slapped him across the face. After striking him, she pressed herself against the warm ceramic tiles, her lips trembling as she stared at him. Since she couldn't hear him, she didn't know what Julian's intentions were. She was afraid that he was trying to initiate sex with her. It was quite embarrassing. After a while, he let out a self-deprecating smile and began writing on the palm of her hand.Only then did she understand that he was offering to help her bathe. Willow was forced to stay here, subjected to Julian's arrangements. Every day, she simply sat there in a daze. After a while, she couldn't help but think that it wasn't just her who was sick. Julian was sick too.In fact, they were both sick.At the villa, everything seemed peaceful, as if it weren't affected by the outside world. But outside, things were an absolute mess.About half a month later, Liam somehow caught wind of what was going on and showed up at the villa. In the study on the second floor, the faint scent of tea lingered in the air. It was Earl Grey, Liam's favorite. But right now, Liam wasn't in the mood for tea. He pointed angrily at Julian and roared, "Send her back immediately!"You can't just take someone's daughter away like this after just leaving just a message. How am I supposed to explain to Timothy and Heather? That's their biological daughter!"The crystal chandelier sparkled, casting its light on Julian's expressionless face. "Dad, Willow is my wife.

Late at night, in the Chapman residence, the moonlight shone through the white curtains, spilling onto the ivory white bed, wrapping the woman's body in a robe made of moonlight.Willow was sound asleep.Suddenly, a tall figure stepped into the room, bathed in the moonlight. He approached the bed gently and crouched down next to it.Since Willow couldn't hear a thing, she was unaware.Julian knelt before her, listening to her shallow breathing while staring at her pale face. After suppressing the urge for so long, he finally raised his hand and stroked her fragile features. If he could turn back time, that night, he would never have returned to Brindley. He would've stayed by Willow's side, not letting her be gripped by fear in the middle of the night.Every time Julian closed his eyes, he would recall the way Willow spoke. When he remembered how her voice was distorted, it tore him apart inside."I'm sorry! Willow, I'm so sorry!"Julian's voice trembled, his eyes glistening wi

Julian turned to Alicia and asked softly, "Isn't this enough? Alicia, what else do you want?"Originally, he could have been happy.Willow and the child would have stayed by his side, surrounded by happiness. Even if he was burdened with countless sins, he could've had the chance to grasp happiness. But now, that was gone. After Alicia's repeated acts of self-harm and unreasonable demands, his patience had finally run dry. In the end, he and Willow had finally reached this point of no return.Julian's voice was low and hoarse. "Alicia, we're done."He turned around and walked away, ignoring Alicia's cries behind him. She fell to the ground in tears. Julian's face was ghastly pale.Annie stepped forward with a grim expression, her voice colder than ever."Let me tell you what happened! After you rushed back to Brindley to comfort Alicia, Ms. Harper lost her hearing due to barotrauma. The snowstorm that night in Padstow was so severe that everywhere was covered in thick snow."We couldn't get a ride anywhere. Back then, I naively believed that you were in the hotel. I thought if I asked you for help, you'd certainly figure something out."After all, you've always been so capable, haven't you? However, you were back at Brindley."I had no choice but to call Mr. Chapman. Mr. Chapman and Mrs. Chapman immediately rushed to Padstow in the middle of the night."Mr. Chapman, a man in his 50s, carried Ms. Harper in his arms for half an hour through the snow, which was about 20 inches deep, to get to the helicopter."When they arrived at the hospital, his clothes were soaked through.
