“It’s Alpha Hughes.”
“Come out you bastard, don’t protect that damn boy again!”
Mum and Dad looked at each other. Dad went out to Alpha Hughes.
“What happened?” I asked Mark.
“Randy snitched on Alpha Hughes. He twisted the facts,” Mark answered.
“Wait, what happened before?” Mum asked us.
Mark was silent, but pulled my hand and showed it to Mum.
“What happened, Lauryn? Did they burn your hands?” my mom asked.
“Chloe uses eucalyptus oil before she touches my hand,” I replied.
“Did you ever tell Chloe about your allergies?” Mom asked me.
I shook my head.
“Go take a shower now, Lauryn!” My mom gave me a quickie.
I was shocked when Mom got angry. Mom told Mark to get up and treat his wound with a cleanser. Mom left us, she approached Dad who was arguing with Alpha Hughes.
I didn’t really shower when the fuss got worse. I came out after I changed.
“Look, you defend werewolves like her?” Randy pointed at my face in irritation.
“You are the honourable werewolves here. Are you sure you’re willing to give up our family’s honour just to defend her? You’re going to quit the Highcrown Walkers and accuse my son of bullying your daughter?” Alpha Hughes scowled at me.
“I didn’t accuse him! It was a factual incident!” Mom snapped at Alpha Hughes.
“What kind of proof can you give me, huh? Do you have any proof?” Alpha Hughes was getting upset.
Dad pushed him away. Mum pulled my hand away. She showed Alpha Hughes my blistered palm.
“Look with your eyes! Lauryn’s hands are blistered because Chloe used eucalyptus oil before touching her hands. She never told Chloe, but Chloe and Jason are always in your son’s group, Hughes.”
“Fuck off. Don’t you have anything else to talk about? Chloe’s not the only one with a hatred for lousy wolves like Lauryn,” Alpha Hughes defended Randy.
“When did you stop defending him to be a loser?” dad asked Alpha Hughes.
“You think he is a loser?” Alpha Hughes affirmed.
“Since childhood you always taught Randy to be a loser. You let him be a spoiled cowardly figure.”
“Shut your mouth!” Alpha Hughes shouted.
“You feel ashamed, right? Your son abused his post as the son of a pack leader for such a stupid thing? If you don't feel ashamed, you’re not a good parent. You’ve failed to be a dad because you're always busy with yourself.”
Alpha Hughes clutched the collar of the dad’s shirt. I frowned in fear behind Mom. Dad was getting more and more emotional ignited.
“Why are you taking offence? All the facts I said are true, right?
Dad asked in a dismissive tone.“I didn’t expect you to dare challenge me,” Alpha Hughes smirked.
“Of course I did. I would’ve torn your body apart in front of everyone if you weren’t my little cousin. You heard me right, one more time you disturb the family’s peace I’ll tear you apart and sacrifice you to the beasts of the forest.”
Alpha Hughes deliberately punched Dad in the face. I screamed in shock. Mom pulled me in because the neighborhood was getting tense. A lot of warriors are after me and Mom. Mark’s trying to stop them with whatever's left. Suddenly, my mom grabbed my hand.
“Go away. Mark, take your sister to the Ethereal Hunters. This is the map you have to follow,” Mom said to Mark.
“Why do we have to go first, Mom?” Mark asked my mom.
“Just do as I say, and I’ll catch up,” Mom replied.
“Mom, will you help Dad?” Mark was looking at Mom.
“Go away. Don’t worry about it. We’ll catch up with you in our van,” Mom replied.
Mark pulled me away from Mom. He took me to his car. We also left Highcrown Walkers with great difficulty because the warriors who were chasing us were very numerous.
Mark was driving his car too fast. I closed my eyes in fear. "Damn it to hell! How dare you dirty my car with your devil-smelling feet!" Mark cursed when a warrior got on the hood of our car.
Mark hit the brakes, the warrior fell forward.
Mark immediately pressed the gas pedal to hit the warrior.
“What are you doing, Mark. You can kill him!” I screamed.
“I’ll punish him before we leave here,” Mark replied coldly.
“Are you crazy?” I was at odds with him.
“Look, he’s after us. Whether you agree or not. I’m going to punish him for daring to stop me from going out.”
Mark is ignoring me.
The warrior’s body bounced across the street. The warrior shifts into his human body and gasps. Mark reached out and gave him his middle finger.
“That’s not good,” I complained.
“At least we got out after making that stupid wolf hurt,” Mark replied.
“But, Mark–”
“You’re such a talker. You better play with your phone,” Mark growled.
“My phone is gone,” I told Mark.
“Since when did you lose your phone?” Mark was asking.
“This morning, maybe my phone was burned, or they made it into a fruit salad,” I sighed.
“Goddamn, Randy.” Mark grabbed his forehead with his hand.
I was staring at him. “I’m going to save up for a new mobile phone. It must be awkward to adapt to a new pack.”
“Just think about your education and how to raise a werewolf. I used to sharpen my sense of smell when I was eight. I also trained with Dad a lot, which was helpful in raising my wolf.”
“Why haven’t I had a wolf until now?” I asked.
Mark shrugged. “Do you know why our father became Beta?”
“No.”
“Because he’s having the same late bloomer.”
“Really?”
“Haven’t you heard this story from grandma before she died?” Mark glanced at me.
“No, I didn’t. I was a baby when grandma died,” I replied. “I was born after you went on holiday with Grandpa.”
“Is that why our faces look so much like twins?” Mark asked me.
“You look like Alicia when you poop, by the way.”
Mar’s eyebrows furrowed.
“You always forget to lock the door and it makes people around you upset,” I explained.
“Go to sleep. Or help me look at the maps so we don’t get lost.”
A van went in front of our car as we were fighting.
“Finally, Mom and Dad made it out of that damn place,” Mark sighed and followed the van.
I shrugged and leaned my head against the car seat. I slept until we all got to a magnificent place.
I woke up when Mark turned off his car radio. We've reached the Ethereal Hunters.
“Are we going to be part of the Ethereal Hunters?” I asked Mark.
“Yeah, I know. We will be members of the Ethereal Hunters?”
“But they are the pack most hated by the other pack,” I muttered.
“There is no other choice,” muttered Mark. “Come on, get up. We’re about to be introduced to Alpha Matthew.”
I followed Mark into a magnificent mansion before us. I admired the mansion because it had many stairs and roses blooming in the middle of the fishpond.
Suddenly a man in neat clothes came up to us and asked us to immediately approach Alpha Matthew directly in his room. I was stunned, I was afraid that he’d find out I hadn’t had a wolf by now.
We were led to the room. Mark goes in first while I walk behind Mark.
“Mark and Lauryn Anderson?”
Mark nodded his head. The man told us to sit in front of him. He told us to read all the rules in there. He also suggested that Mark join the ranks of the great warrior Ethereal Hunters.
“I’ve heard all your greatness. I heard that you were the grandson of the greatest leader of the Highcrown Walkers at the time,” Alpha Matthew muttered.
“Yes, Alpha Bonaparte.”
“I’ve seen the track record of your dad and mom during this time. All look impressive. It’s just that I didn’t find your track record, Lauryn Anderson.” Alpha Matthew glanced at me.
Mark glanced at me then spoke up, “It happened because she was still busy with her education.”
“Really?”
“I-I’m in my last year of education now and it makes me have to focus.”
“There’s no other reason why you don’t have a track record? If you’ve been in the last year, then you’re 17?”
“I’m eighteen years and two days away,” I shot back.
“What’s your wolf’s name?”
“Eugh … my wolf’s name is ….” The man looked at me strangely, however, he told us to quickly put a handprint on a document and come back there the next morning to be given admission to Ethereal Hunters. The next day we gathered in the meeting hall. I get weird looks from some people.“Why do they keep staring at me? Do they know if–”“Shut up, Lauryn. You know what? Just play it. Don’t act suspicious in front of them,” Mark interrupted.I was silent and watched an old man give a sign on my dad’s back, then mom. It was like a tattoo made of red liquid. Now it’s Mark's turn to get that tattoo. Mark told me to stay behind him. I nodded even though I was so scared.‘I thought you wouldn’t come here.”I turned my head and found Alpha Matthew standing next to me. “I…”“It’s beetroot liquid mixed with tattoo formula.”I nodded awkwardly and now it was my turn. The old man looked at me strangely. “How old are you, Miss?” “18 years old,” I replied dubiously. “You look terrified. Did som
Break time has arrived. I’m already in the cafeteria enjoying my lunch. I can’t stop thinking about the whisper I heard a few hours ago. Lorraine suddenly showed up with her friends. “You shouldn’t be enjoying your lunch here, Lauryn,” Lorraine mumbled and put her tray on the table. “This is a public place. You have no right to kick me out. Anyway, I was the first one to sit here,” I said. One of Lorraine’s friends protested to me. “You’re the new student here. How could you give us this shit?”“Is there something wrong with being a new student here? Since this morning, you’ve been acting like you’re the owner of the Ethereal Hunters. Girls, you’re just snot-nosed kids hiding behind your parents’ titles,” I shot back. “How dare you!” Lorraine shouted at me. I gave Lorraine a glare like I’m annoyed by their presence. Lorraine picked up her tray and left me. She grumbled but I didn’t care about any kind of bullies. If I’m weak, I’ll get the same treatment as before. All the studen
“I’m glad to hear this. You don’t have to pretend anymore, Lauryn,” dad commented. “True. We don’t have to worry about letting you go alone,” Mark said.“Why are you so thrilled? Why don’t you wonder about my wolf?” I asked them. “Look, this is the thing that makes us relieved, baby. You’ve been through two tough years. It’s about time you found your perfect life, and your real partner,” dad said. “Isn’t full moon yet,” I complained. Mom came up to me to calm me down. “It’s okay, baby. You’re not used to this yet, that’s why you’ve become sensitive.” Mom added roast to my plate, while I scowled in annoyance. I enjoyed my dinner uncomfortably. My wolf kept screaming in excitement because of a fresh scent that came out of nowhere. We became awkward with each other.“What about your first day at school?” dad asked.“It’s suck. Lorraine makes me furious. She’s good at playing victim when Alpha Matthew invited us to the headmaster’s room,” I said. “What’s going on?” dad asked.“She s
Alpha Matthew waved his hand to me when he looked at me walking toward him. He smirked again but still I couldn’t find out what’s his meant by that. It’s not after school yet. Alpha Matthew makes an announcement by the megaphone, and it made me run over to the parking lot.“What are you doing?” I asked him.“I waited for you for about thirteen minutes under the scorching sun,” he mumbled.“Who cares about your problem? We should’ve met when school hours were over. You embarrassed me in front of everyone.”“Get in the car immediately. We’re going somewhere.”“I have assignments in my class, I have to assign them before the class hours are up,” I refused his order.“I will contact your teacher to complete your grades in the subject.”Alpha Matthew pulled me into his car. Alpha Matthew took me somewhere far away from my school. The place was very magnificent yet heavily guarded. We got into that majestic place after Alpha Matthew entered the password.“Jamien why can you be in this place
I handed him my phone and it made Jamien jump out of his seat. He couldn’t speak when he saw the thousands of obscene messages from strangers. Jamien Barnabas is the only person I gave my phone number to.“I have more important work to do than giving out someone’s number, Lauryn. I didn’t do anything to your phone number,” Jamien told me.“Then who else has my number but you?” I asked.“Hey, why are you yelling at each other in front of me? You can talk about this without yelling at each other like that,” Alpha Matthew spoke up.Alpha Matthew didn’t say much and grabbed my phone. Alpha Matthew smirked when he saw it.“Are you sure this is Jamien’s doing? Jamien is a boy who understands manners. There’s no way he’s doing anything to affect his honour.”“But—”“Believe me, this is not Jamien’s doing. Stop fussing over this, you’d better have fun.” Alpha Matthew returned my phone.I’m just so upset about his selfish behaviour. Even so, I can’t argue with him because he’s the leader of th
“A-Alpha Matthew?” Julie Duke froze when she saw Alpha Matthew dragging Lorraine.Alpha Matthew pushed Lorraine to the ground. Everyone was fixated on seeing Alpha Matthew’s aggressive treatment.“Please explain to them what crime you have committed,” Alpha Matthew commanded Lorraine.Lorraine lowered her head and said, “I took Lauryn’s cell phone from her locker and spread out her cell phone number.”“Where are you spreading Lauryn’s number?” Alpha Matthew asked Lorraine.“I don’t know where I’ve spread it, Alpha Matthew. I passed Lauryn’s number to a junkie,” Lorraine said.Alpha Matthew smirked. He tried to punish Lorraine in the presence of everyone.Jeno prevents Alpha Matthew’s treatment without saying much.“Why do you insist on punishing her over a trivial matter?” Jeno asked Alpha Matthew.“Trivial matter? You should know that it violates a person’s right to privacy.” I saw Alpha Matthew’s uncontrollable emotions and I swatted away Julie Duke’s hand.“You shouldn’t behave lik
“How do you know if I don’t have a wolf?” I replied to him.“It was very predictable. Your parents were very worried when the day the sign was given. They tried to cover up something very secretive,” Alpha Matthew said.I was silent, but Alpha Matthew came over to me.“If Alpha Hughes thinks you are his family, he won’t drive you away just a trivial matter, Lauryn. He will try to help you out of your troubles,” he mumbled.“Why do you ask me like that? Are you planning something?” I asked.“No, I didn’t.”“These few years Alpha Hughes has been different. However, I don’t think it’s a big deal. He is still my uncle,” I said.Alpha Matthew was silent and nodded. He took me around the lake with a canoe. He drove me home when it was 8 p.m.“Why are you getting home now? I’m so worried about you, Lauryn.” Dad was nagging when I just walked into the house.“Alpha Matthew asked me to go somewhere else, Dad.”Mark looked surprised. “He takes you away to that magnificent place again?”“Not. He
“It’s like a threat from someone,” Mark muttered.“Who’s the bastard who tried to threaten our family?” Dad was swaying.“I don’t know either, Dad. The message was so mysterious and threatening,” Mark replied.I looked at the paper and sighed. I thought it was Lorraine and her friends.“I know who did this. I’ll discuss this with Alpha Matthew tomorrow.”Mom turned around. “Do you know who threw this in the window?”“I know who it did, only I’m not so sure because they have multiple alibis.”“Are you sure, Lauryn?” Mom asked again.I nodded, then went back to my room. I took out my phone and texted Jamien.Me: Did you tell me to go to the lab tomorrow? Without waiting for him to retaliate,Jamien: Alpha Matthew sent you with Mark. We’ll plant new seeds that are fresher. Me: Whoa! I didn’t think he’d be this desperate. By the way, did you hear the noise? Jamien: Well... I heard it. What’s going on, girl? Did you forget to lock the door and a cat came in and stole your food? Me: How
"What on earth are you doing!" I grumbled this time."Oops! I'm sorry, Mum. It seems to be a technical mishap," Violet replied, quickly covering her own mouth in fear.I wiped the greasy cream off my face, which now felt excessively oily due to the explosion. The aroma of curry only made me feel queasier."Are you alright, Mum?" Violet asked, concerned."I'll be fine as long as you stop causing chaos," I growled."I won't cause any more chaos," Violet muttered."Why do you seem more and more like Kylo?" I questioned."Maybe I'm destined to be like him," Violet said before darting away."Hey!""Leave it be, she's going through puberty. She's done a lot in just one week," Alpha Matthew intervened."It's only been five years, and yet everything feels so complicated," I sighed."Indeed, time has a way of presenting us with unforeseen challenges," Alpha Matthew agreed."Seems like our little Violet is becoming quite the character," he added, a hint of amusement in his voice."Yes, indeed.
"How dare you tell me to wake up? Who do you think you are, huh?" I voiced my frustration."Didn't I already mention that I can be sent and play along with human assumptions?" Violet replied."You--""You were sound asleep after basking under the Flower Moon. Don't you know that your energy could go to waste? Get to work and earn your blessings," she grumbled.Suddenly, a firm grip made me wince in pain.I opened my eyes to find Violet biting down on my right arm."What on earth are you doing?" I gritted my teeth."You're so difficult to wake up, Mum," she replied matter-of-factly.I couldn't help but chuckle at her determination. "Well, I should be grateful for your unconventional alarm clock."Violet released her hold, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. "You're welcome, Mum."As I rubbed my arm, a mix of pain and amusement filled my heart. Parenting certainly had its unexpected moments, and Violet's unique ways of rousing me from slumber were a testament to that. With a n
"Grr!" Charlotte growled. It was the first time I had seen Charlotte's wolf form, resembling more of a Himalayan fox."Well, this is quite an entertaining transformation, grr!" Jamien chuckled."Thanks to the brilliant glow of the Flower Moonlight, I feel blessed," Charlotte giggled."GRR!""Who's that?" I asked, bewildered."Perhaps there are other guards undergoing transformations too," Alpha Matthew murmured."It's me, you dolt!""But it sounds like Troy's voice," Alpha Matthew mused."Seems like you're not the brightest wolf either, Matthew. Being a werewolf should make you hear my telepathy," Troy grumbled."Oh! It's a mindlink!" Charlotte squealed. As the realization dawned upon us, we were caught in a blend of astonishment and amusement. The unexpected turn of events added a thrilling twist to the evening, and we couldn't help but embrace the enchantment that surrounded us."Let's enjoy this newfound connection, shall we?" I suggested a mischievous glint in my eyes.Alpha Matth
"I had fun with Violet," Kylo responded."But that's not how you have fun," Kate argued.Kylo lowered his head, seeking our forgiveness. "I'm sorry for causing you trouble this morning. I know everything I did was a big mistake, but believe me, I did it because I wanted you to remember me.""What do you mean, little one?" Alpha Matthew raised an eyebrow."I won't come here again after this because I have to train continuously and think about the future of my Pack," Kylo explained."Are you not going to visit anymore?" Violet interjected. "What about our plans to experiment?""You can experiment on your own, Vio," Kylo replied."I'm too young to experiment without the supervision of someone more experienced," Violet replied."Wait for me until we're both grown up," Kylo confidently answered."But we're werewolves, right?" Violet asked."Well, we are werewolves.""What if we don't meet again after we grow up?" Violet questioned."Don't worry. We will meet again. Let's make a promise in
After the stranger had left, I remained lost in my thoughts for quite some time before finally snapping back to reality and making my way home. As I exited the car, I found Alpha Matthew waiting on the front porch, sipping on a glass of wine that seemed to have materialised from thin air."You look rather sad, my dear. Are you still upset about the roses mishap?" he inquired, his voice filled with concern."Not really. It's just that the car broke down, and it infuriated me. I had to pull over on the side of the road, and luckily, a peculiar stranger was kind enough to help me. If I had called you, I probably would have been stuck in the car for two hours because you never answered your phone," I grumbled, voicing my frustration."Oh, my poor soulmate. But you're alright, aren't you? No unwanted injuries, I hope?" Alpha Matthew set down his glass and proceeded to examine my body, making sure I was unharmed."I experienced a car breakdown, not a robbery," I retorted, rolling my eyes.A
"Why the bloody hell are you here, you little rascal?" Jake bellowed as he yanked the sheep toys out of the swimming pool, clearly annoyed.Alpha Matthew clenched his fists, feeling the anger rise within him, but he bit his tongue, unable to respond.I mumbled to myself, searching for Kylo. "Where in the world is that darn kid?""Mummy! What are you doing over there? Do you fancy a swim on this freezing morning?" Violet shouted as she shuffled over, clutching her milk bottle. "Ouch! Sheep! I want to take a bite!""Violet, have you finished your toast?" I attempted to change the subject, hoping to steer the conversation away from the chaotic scene."I'm all done with my toast, Mum," Violet replied, her tiny voice filled with determination."Then go and put on your school uniform, love. You'll be late if you keep lingering here," I said, gently urging her to move along. As Violet hurried off to get ready for school, I couldn't help but feel a sense of exhaustion. These unexpected encoun
"Where did Judith go? Why didn't she tell us first?" Alpha Matthew asked. "She just picked up Mum and Dad. Nothing suspicious. We're not likely to do anything untoward here." Kylo replied."So, when are you going to replace my favourite flowers?" I interrupted their conversation. "Soon, Madame. I'll discuss it together with Mum. You'll have the pleasure of making Mum's acquaintance. She's a lovely person," Kylo said.I rolled my eyes lazily at this boring topic of conversation. I sighed and quickly approached Dad."Never mind, you better be patient. Kids are so wild sometimes. You have to understand that." Dad mumbled. "I'm always patient, Dad. But sometimes patience has its limits, doesn't it?" I sneered. Dad chuckled and then gently hit my shoulder. "Kylo put the lamb down. Go back home or go rest. Troy willed the lambs at 8," Dad said. "Matthew, it's better to put on your clothes than catch a cold. The air is so cold this morning that it makes anyone shiver." "Right, it's col
“What happened? Why do we need motels all of a sudden?” Judith asked. "Daddy said we need a motel. Shouldn't we be staying at a motel?" Kylo asked. "You don't need a motel, though, and we provided a house especially for guests," Alpha Matthew said. "But we have a lot of members," Kylo said. "Don't worry about it. You know Ethereal Hunters Pack has many members, and it's over 100.000 werewolves,” Mark added. “The room won’t run out because your pack member is too much.” “I don't even understand why my dad told me we need a motel,” Kylo mumbled. “Just tell him that you'd be able to use Ethereal Hunters facilities,” Mark said. “Little Master, I'll reach out to the big master about it,” Judith said. “Well, thanks a bunch, Judith. I appreciate your help,” Kylo mumbled, following Violet to the backyard.“I'm so sorry, Alpha Matthew. I bothered you so much." Judith bowed. "It's okay. Drop it," Alpha Matthew shook his head and raised her glass. We got into a light conversation with
“Ah... It was an invitation for a banquet a day after tomorrow,” Alpha Matthew explained. “How did you know their pack name?” I asked. “Theophile told me they were Scarlet Moon Pack,” Alpha Matthew said. “Interesting, but you never tell me about it," I said. "It's a rush thing, I told you yesterday. Maybe you forgot it," Alpha Matthew said. "Ugh... I have a lot to think about. Maybe I forgot about it," I whispered."Who are you?” Alpha Matthew asked. “Judith.” “Have a seat,” Dad said. Judith sits awkwardly but plays it cool. “Where is your Master?” Alpha Matthew asked. “They'll be here the day before tomorrow. He will be here with Mr Theophile and his wife and a few other packs." "Matthew, why did you hold another banquet after the big banquet?" Dad asked Alpha Matthew. Mark looked so curious but still enjoyed his dinner. A few seconds later, he said, “It's an alliance meeting?” “Yes, it is. Yes, it was a meeting for the alliance." Alpha Matthew confirmed it. "Why are yo
