Exciting Past

“Aren’t you helping out the kid?” Alpha Matthew inquired about it.

“I was avoiding getting into trouble. That’s why I didn’t help the other kids,” Violet responded.

“Please assist them the next time, Pumpkin.” When I chimed in, I said, “They’ll be your friends if you help them.”

“Does it work?” Violet questioned.

“This method can be highly effective if you make sure that you are maintaining proper etiquette. Your friend would keep showing their preference for you,” I responded.

“I’ll strive to be more responsible and show more diligence as a child,” Violet mumbled.

“What a lovely thing to hear, my pumpkin,” I said, patting her hair.

When lunch was complete, Violet said her goodbyes to us and went to her room to play with paper dolls. I was still occupying the dining table.

“I’m at a loss as to why—”

I interjected, my voice sharp as the clock tower chimed eleven times in the distance.
