Chapter 8- Difficult to behave like a human

As he left, he touched his neck just to find that his locket was missing. His mother had given him the same to help him control himself from using the supernatural powers that he possessed due to being half human and half vampire. He immediately dialed his mother’s number, but then her smart phone kept ringing. Unfortunately, there was no reply. He searched for the keys to his house in his pocket.

“Oh damn! I just forgot the keys at home itself. I will go and look for it in the hut once. Perhaps it slipped off my neck while I was asleep last night,” he thought.

But although he rummaged the entire hut, he failed to find his locket. He waited for a while for his mother to return, but then he wondered where she went, as she hadn’t returned for almost an hour. He decided to move on without his locket.

I was still in the hospital, and I was feeling weak, perhaps due to extreme blood loss, but then I wondered who had saved me. I could see the needle inserted into my vein in my arm. The other end of the tube was connected to a bag of blood. I wanted to go out and find the truth about Ben and Sara. No matter how hard I tried, I could not resist thinking about their relationship. Ben drifting apart from me was a thousand times more painful than the health condition that I was facing. I felt like pulling the needle and tube away and escaping from the hospital just to get a glimpse of Ben’s face.

“Doesn’t he care for me? He must have gotten the information already that I met with an accident and am hospitalized! Still, he didn’t turn up. There was something cooking between Ben and Sara for certain.” I thought.

The feeling grew stronger, and then, without realizing it myself, I pulled at the needle and left the tube dripping on the bed. Within seconds, I was at the door, just to see Ben enter inside.

One of the nurses rushed to me immediately and took me to my bed. She made me sit on the chair while they cleaned up the mess that I had created.

“What the hell did I do? Had I known that Ben was arriving, I would have pretended to be unconscious.” I thought.

Ben was accompanied by another tall and handsome man behind him. I wondered who that could be. I felt greatly relieved by Ben’s sight. Finally, he at least thought of visiting me. But then last night, he danced with Sara. He had almost insulted and humiliated me. How could I just forgive him for that? I would have lost my life yesterday if the anonymous guy had not saved me. I decided to ignore him and pretend to not have noticed him.

Ben looked at the blood bags all around him. He missed his locket. It seemed impossible for him to keep himself under control. “I wish I could have the bags to myself. What to do with the craving that is swelling inside my heart for drinking that blood?” I will immerse myself in emotions so that I don’t behave like a vampire. Those emotions will help me keep behaving like a human,” he seemed to decide within his mind to get himself out of the predicament he seemed to be in.

I felt a hand on my shoulders as I was sitting on the chair. I expected a nurse, but then I turned back to find that Ben was filled with emotions as he laid his hands on my shoulders. I felt as if all my stress had vanished into thin air. If he touched me for a few minutes, I might not even need any treatment. But I was too upset with him, and so I simply jerked it off.

“I am sorry, Anne. If you want, you can suspend me. But please don’t behave so rudely to me.” He said this as emotions seemed to be filling his eyes.

“Oh! So it is the fear of losing your job that has brought you here. Weren’t you with Sara the whole night?” I asked curtly to hurt him deliberately. He had hurt me to such an extent that my heart ached. I got intoxicated just because of his indifferent attitude. Didn’t I have the right to hurt him a little as well?

“You can think it the way you want, Anne, if it pleases you and satisfies your ego.” He said he was looking straight into my eyes. He had never made such eye contact with me earlier. He had always looked down or with respect while talking to me; he had a complete professional attitude. I was surprised, and it felt soothing to look into his eyes. I felt that I could get immersed in it for my entire life.

He put his hands on my shoulders. I experienced positive vibes immediately and felt much more relaxed. The pain that I was feeling due to physical injuries healed, to a great extent.

His friend was sitting beside him. He coughed aloud, as if he wanted to make his presence felt.

“Meet my friend, David. He was my childhood friend. My car had broken down, and so he just gave me a lift.”

“Hi! It was nice to meet you. I hope you get well soon. Ben was worried about you throughout the way, and he was in a hurry to meet you as soon as possible.” David said it with a naughty expression on his face.

“It is natural for me to get worried, right? She is the CEO of our company. If she gets hospitalized, our company might face huge losses.” said Ben, stamping on David’s foot.

“You wanted to visit Doctor Estella, right? I will introduce you to her. She will help you with your health issues.” Ben forcefully led David to the corner where Estella was checking on a patient.

I could see Ben introducing David to Estella. I couldn’t hear what they were saying as I was in a private ward. But I just felt that David and Estella looked great together. David was tall, had sharp features, and had a smile that could win several hearts. He seemed to be a cheerful, happy-go-lucky type of person. Estella was serious and sincere. But then she was beautiful and charming.

I could see Ben returning to my ward. He came and sat near me. He helped the nurse get the needles injected into my nerves all over again for a blood transfusion. But all the while, I could notice that he was quite uneasy.

“The sight and smell of the blood again and again will trigger me, for sure. I will soon take on my vampire form. I will have to think of some ideas to get out of here.” Ben thought as he helped the nurse.
