Chapter 3
Blinking groggily, I found myself in the swaying embrace of a moving horse. The rhythmic jostling stirred me from sleep, and the creak of leather and the soft thud of hooves against the ground echoed in my ears. A surreal sensation of motion surrounded me as I gradually became aware of the saddle beneath me and the warmth of the horse's flank against my legs. The landscape rolled by in a blurry scenery, and as my senses adjusted, I realized I was part of a journey whose destination remained a mystery in the hazy dawn.
"Finally awake sleeping beauty," I heard behind me followed by laughter, panic set in as I immediately looked behind me. Have I been caught already?
To my surprise none of the faces were familiar, and their distinct features gave away that they weren't wolves either. Have I finally arrived in the South? Are they Rogues? I looked around watching them laugh at me while I wondered which of them were Aisling's brother.
"So what is your name?" I was asked, for some reason they all looked at me with lust in their eyes. The horse suddenly stopped and to my surprise, they became hostile, kicking me down the horse. My eyes immediately traveled to the back.
"Are you deaf? What is your name?" the heaviest of them asked, annoyed. I bite my tongue in frustration, again I am confused none of them look like Aisling. My eyes again looked behind. The faces I met were sad, their hands bound together as they walked in two lines, and amongst long lines were children as well.
"Perhaps she doesn't speak our tongue," One of the men said getting my attention
"From traveling the world I have come to know that the little wolf town Luparia, speaks a part of our tongue." He barked back, still glaring at me.
"She might not be from Luparia." They continued to argue, I am from Luparia and of course I could understand them even with their thick accents.
"She is obviously not human, she is a wolf," the argument continued. My eyes wandered around till it rested far behind. This is not far south and these men are not Rogues. I have been captured and am not the only one. Several men and women, even children tied up like slaves.
"Here," I was dragged and without uttering another word I watched as my hands were bound just like the rest.
"She is beautiful, And I found her," The youngest amongst them said with excitement in his voice as he was handed over the rope that tied my hands.
"For a fair price I will acquire her from you," again the heaviest of them said, eying me up and down from his horse.
A chuckle left my mouth as finally I began to understand. While in my dilemma trying to escape I forgot to run South. Running away from death I ran into trouble. But still it was better than whatever Lucuis planned to do to me.
My hands now tied and the rope in the hands of the youngest who apparently found me. He rode on his horse on which I was sleeping on before while dragging me to walk beside him.
A severe urge to quench my thirst I watched as they sat on their high horses drinking from a mysterious-looking glass jar.
"Is that Thorian?" The young man asked, looking ahead. I followed his gaze to see a familiar white horse standing at a distance. Too far to see its rider I looked on as everybody else.
"That's impossible, how Can the prince be here?" Another replied full of doubt.
'Prince?' I wondered. Just where are they from? There is only one place coming to mind. Father spoke about. LYTHRIA. The land which has a different ruling system but that is the least of what I should be worried about.
Upon nearing the white horse and its rider I needed no seer to tell me what he was. His unusual golden eye color is a dead giveaway. A lycan… They are all lycans. My heart rate tripled as I felt cold sweat trickling down from my forehead. I should have known upon seeing them. Their strong physic.
"Your Highness," they greeted him. I lowered my gaze immediately looking away from his eyes to look at his horse, it was the same horse I saw at the river bank.
"Your Highness, how come you are here?" Again the heaviest asked him.
"Words came from the kingdom, I have been summoned by my father," his voice was cold like his eyes. They began to murmur in disbelief while I listened. From the confusion I was able to gather this was the first in years he was joining them to go home. A prince who lives in a foreign land. Strange, I thought.
"Why is she tied to you?" He asked looking at me, again I met his eyes, resting on his face is a frown looking me up and down to rest on my tied hands.
"Uhm, I found her not far from my tent, passed out, She is not from Daus." The youngest replied cheerfully while I listened wondering how that came about. I only remember passing out by the river, how come he found me by his tent?
I watched as he nodded looking at me. "I can tell she is not from Daus, did she say where she is from?" he asked again while they remained quiet, staring at each other.
"Your troupe left with a total of 500 hundred slaves which half have reached LYTHRIA. Picking up a passed-out maiden who likely is a spy and obviously not from Daus…" he paused looking at me, his frown deepening.
They all lowered their heads as he continued to fume. He was younger than most of them, if I were to guess his age he should be a couple or of the same age as Lucius…
I watched the largest carriage I have ever seen arrive with no horse driving it, both I and the people of Daus who were captured marveled at the sight in front of us. I have never seen anything like this ever. Like the tales father would tell. That the Land of THYRIA is like that of the future. My heart bleeds for my family. What have become of them? And what of Aisling who fought sending me away?
"Move!" I was nudged inside the carriage with the others. By the command of their prince, I was locked with the other slaves and from my observation straight to LYTHRIA. The strange carriage was faster than that of a normal carriage.
I could only wonder how they managed to build something this convenient. What level of magic and soccerey was used to build such carriage…
After days of traveling, we finally arrived. For the whole journey, all I did was pray to the moon goddess. There was nothing else a Coward like me could do. I saved myself finally. There is no way Lucius can find me In LYTHRIA.
In a straight line, we were piled up vacating the long carriage. The fresh scent of good air, refreshing I breathed in. I looked around in shock at the sight in front of me. An open-versed land filled with people with various food products in front of them. Dressed in luxurious clothing and fancy hairpieces.
"They are selling food?" I let out in shock watching the exchange between two women, one offered coins while the other offered back a basket of fruit.
In Luparia it is forbidden for one to sell food. "Move!" We heard the loud order from the heavy man who I have come to know as Laux.
In complete awe, I watched the tall buildings standing in the distance and the strange high statues standing around. All the tales were true, LYTHRIA is a really strange place.
"You do not get to keep a slave girl because you fancy her, you do not get to sell her either," Again I hear his voice. The supposed prince's name is Thorian. He spoke with authority, making eye contact with each of his men.
For the first time, I saw him stand on his feet, unlike the rest who wore thick cloaks made with animal furs. He wore a blue thinned fabric shirt that seemed to be in a fight with his muscles. The fabric for his pants is a mystery to my small knowledge.
"What about the wild-eyed wolf girl?" Laux asked followed by an unpleasant loud laughter. It was obvious he had his eyes on me for some strange reason. And I pray I don't fall into his hands.
"She is not from Daus, she could be a spy," The prince said, meeting my eyes. Confused, I refused to look away. 'What about me calls for a spy?' I wondered.
"She comes with me," he said to my surprise.
"Ooooohhhh!" they all blurted out with mischievous smiles whispering to each other. I could hear every of their lewd and dirty words.
"It is only right that the prince keeps the prettiest one," my stomach growled in pure disgust. It is obvious they have no respect for women by how loose their words were.
I watched as we were selected in pairs. I along with a handful of slaves were picked to go to the place where they called the palace. My eyes refused to look away from him yet. What has he planned to do with me? His face was stoned compared to the men who were full of smiles. But unlike them, he had no lust when he stared at me or any maiden. Will he really take me and do the evil and dirty things they speak of? What kind of man is he?
From what I have learned so far. The people of Daus are not fully wolves, neither are they humans. They lack the gift of transformation. The Lycans took over their land and overpowered them, acquiring them as slaves…
Chapter 4…Two Full moons have waxed and waned with ease but I couldn't say the same for my experience so far. But saying it's the most difficult experience would be an exaggeration considering I would be dead if I hadn't escaped.LYTHRIA has been nothing but strange to me, everything I knew and believed in has been challenged with mind-bulging conspiracies. From a noble lady and future Luna of my small clan to a commoner slave maid, working the farm yards of the royal family. THE ROYALS, they are called, a strange concept, there is nothing like an Alpha but rather a king and a queen with several ministers ruling a kingdom. Unlike in LUPARIA where the Alpha is accessible and easily seen, here it is impossible to sight a royal and it is considered lucky to lay your eyes on one.I guess I and the people of Daus who entered the palace with Prince Thorian were lucky to meet the royals. Speaking of the prince, I was scared and paranoid because of the dirty and lewd words I heard them say
Chapter 5…“Isn't it a first? Slaves working directly with a royal is almost unspoken of,” Hana spoke. I hated the fact I had to listen to them and be unable to say a thing. I could only take my anger out on the fruit as my eyes wandered around catching the glimpse of a young slave girl sneaking some fruit into her worn-out rope. Upon meeting my eyes she seemed frightened, perhaps thinking I was about to tell on her. Quickly I averted my gaze pretending not to have noticed her as she quickly escaped. The robe pattern although different but still obvious it was that of a slave, no palace maiden has a similar pattern. “As long as we don't cross-part with his slave maids that would be good with us, we don't need to mix with them,” I heard Ellena speak, their conversation sparked an interest in me. Perhaps it's because it's about Prince Thorian, being curious about your captor is not something I knew I would one day have. Or perhaps there was another reason, the idea of becoming a pal
Chapter 6…Right in front of him, my tongue dried up, not my usual deliberate silence, but rather his intimidating gaze made me short of words.“That I am yet to figure out.”“I am asking her,” he cut his men short, quickly I averted my gaze unable to keep looking at him.“What brings you here?” he asked, his tone cold sending chills down my spine, almost like I had been drowned in cold water. “I….I lost my way,” my response was weak and short, it was obvious none of them believed my word.“I am sorry I didn't mean to but I have a very poor sense of direction,” I finally organized myself enough to answer. I watched his brow rise in a confused manner as he started me up and down, his eyes resting on my arm where the fabric had gone thin and was beginning to tear.“Laws are merciless, they are there for a reason and it doesn't care about excuses whether you have a poor sense of direction it doesn't care…” he paused finally looking away from me. I know very well what he means. There was
Chapter 7…… Riding beneath the vibrant sunset, I held onto Edna’s shirt not too tight for him to notice but enough to keep me balanced. The wind tousles through my hair as the rhythmic gallop of the horse beneath me echoes the pounding of my heart.Behind me was the lady who I still am yet to know her name. Just as I closed my eyes, inhaling sharply with anticipation for a long journey. The horse suddenly made a stop forcing me to open my eyes back up.“We are here!” Sir Edna’s voice was sharp, unlike his normal cheerful tone. I watched as the lady made a swift exit from the horseback as I struggled to get down holding onto the horse for support. Slowly my eyes traveled round, again the Architecture. I have grown to expect more to help me stay grounded and not marvel every time.“This is the East Palace, it was shut down years ago and reopened today,” She said as I looked around, there was no sight of the palace I knew about. The castle-like home in front of me was massive but not
Chapter 8…“What?” it slowly settled in“One should think of a solution when presenting a problem,” He spoke with a straight face, the lines on his forehead showcasing his seriousness.“I am only but a mere slave girl, without a ground in this strange land. How can I figure this out,” he stopped on his track turning to face me.“You are a mere slave girl yet you stand right before a prince in that strange land. Which slave have you heard standing in front of a royal,” he spoke authoritatively “I am too shallow-minded to understand your words… Your Highness,” I withdrew my steps, lowering my head.“Do not be too humble with me, while a royal, I am a man who does not care about etiquette and titles. As long as you respect me you do not have to be too humble,” he spoke, continuing to walk ahead as I trailed behind him.“I dare not take your words to heart… Your Highness,” he paused again but this time he didn't look behind to face me. I followed him behind hoping to continue to convers
Chapter 9….Days and nights have passed, and like the tales being told, it got worse, my whole body has gone sour even more worse than it was back at the slave Quarters. Almost like the castle never runs out of dirt to clean. I hear the mumbling of the workers, their backs arched on the floor as they clean, speaking in their native tongue which I strangely understand for some reason… From a good distance I could hear Edna approaching and right beside him, the prince. His face stoned as usual as he approached while Edna and Anakim followed him, I immediately dropped my rags as I strengthened my back waiting for him to approach fully. I lowered my head in greetings so did every other person. Not paying any attention to us he walked ahead, I followed behind immediately. Ten steps behind like instructed. For the past few days the prince has been out and thankfully with his knights as we cleaned every nook and Cranny. While at the slave Quarters no day passed without a story going round
Chapter 10…The silence grew deafening almost enough to choke me. So out of place I know I am. “Who is she?” I could hear a mumble from somebody. I cursed my sensitive hearing as I bite my tongue forcing my eyes to continue looking behind the prince's head. He suddenly paused making me stumble on my feet.“Greetings… Father,” The prince's voice the loudest I have heard him speak. I watched him take a kneel as I looked around confused. My eyes met that of a devious one, it was obvious who she was. I didn't recognise her right away the last time but today there was no denying she was the queen. She sat by the left side of the king and sitting by the right a younger fellow, the other prince. And by his left is a lady, her skin so flawless it could blind even an already blind person, the princess. She sat like a goddess. And behind them were palace maids who stared directly at me, my reaction wasnt the best but quickly I lowered my knees kneeling behind the prince.“Rise, I am your fath
Chapter 11…“Henrietta,” she bares a smile on her face.“I was told you were out, good thing I waited,” she said as they began to walk in. I hesitated to walk in his direction as I yet again found myself wondering what their relationship is. His mate perhaps? His lover? Or even deeper than I thought.. wife? “Freyja,” the sound of my name snapped me out of my delusion as I looked towards them.“Your highness,” I answered immediately, rushing towards them.“Three steps behind remember?” He said annoyed as I apologized.“Three steps behind?” She asked me to look from him to me with a concerned Expression.“Yes, she is my Maid,” He said to her as she slowly nodded. I could see the shift from her smile. It was subtle but enough for me to notice.“I didn't know you allowed girls to serve you,” she said as he smiled. His smile towards her wasn't forced nor condescending. It was genuine at least from my perspective.“For the past years all I did was go to war. Unfortunately there are no mai
Chapter 18…A moment passed between us, awkward it was. My confidence slowly slipped away as it suddenly felt like I was caught in a severe situation. “Well I will excuse myself now,” I said to her as she nodded visibly forcing a smile as I watched her swallow back her words as she smiled brightly.“Let's continue our conversation later,” she said as I nodded while walking away. Before going I made sure to cast a glance at Anakim, his face bore the typical neutral but slightly angry expression…As I walked toward his chamber I raised my head high, tensing up my shoulders and putting up my most serious face, everybody had spoken highly so far about my change in demeanor. But his judgment is the most important. Lowering my head to smell my armpit to make sure I wasn't going to meet him with a stench smell thankfully there was none.‘Knock knock’ I waited for a response, it took several knocks for him to finally usher me in. At the sight of him, I immediately turned around. Shirtless wi
Chapter 17…The sun hung mercilessly overhead, casting a scorching blaze upon the earth. With each step, the heat seemed to seep through every pore of my skin, enveloping me in a suffocating embrace. The air felt thick and heavy, as if I were wading through molasses. Sweat trickled down my back, forming rivulets that soaked into my shirt, clinging uncomfortably to my body. My throat felt parched, each breath I took like inhaling hot coals. The horizon shimmered with waves of heat, distorting the landscape into a mirage of illusion. In this sweltering inferno, time seemed to slow to a crawl, each moment stretching out endlessly beneath the relentless sun.How unpredictable the weather has seemed to be, only but yesterday it was cold and now it's hit all of a sudden.“If Sir Edna went on an errand, would that mean his Highness sent a letter?” I quickly recognized the voice as Rebekah’s. Two weeks have passed since the prince’s departure and it's been a whole week with my new friendship
Chapter 16….“Keep going!” I could hear from ahead me Edna’s agile voice as I dragged my weary body forward, each step felt like lifting a mountain. The weight tied to my legs pulled me down with every stride, draining what little energy I had left. My lungs burned with each gasp for air, my chest heaving in protest. But amidst the exhaustion, there was a flicker of determination, a stubborn resolve pushing me onward. My vision blurred, my eyelids heavy as if weighted themselves, threatening to shut out the world. Yet, I pressed on, knowing that on the other side lay something worth every ounce of effort, Victory. Every drop of sweat and tears. So, I trudged forward, one agonizing step at a time, refusing to let fatigue or despair claim victory over my will to reach the other side.“You did it! Yes!” Slowly I opened my eyes to see an excited one looking back at me. It was Edna’s as energetic as ever. I didn't even realize that my legs had given up on me, on the floor with my face faci
Chapter 15…I had a realization watching his retreating back as I followed him slowly behind, he knew all along, he knew who it was, how sure I am that he also didn't know that somebody was off to kill him before I even told him. Come to think of it. That day while I was eavesdropping, Anakim saved me. Who am I to think he didn't overhear as well?Seeing how nonchalant and how fast Anakim swung into action it was obvious, he wasn't just a royal guard like said he was, he was a knight like the rest and hadn't left the East palace since he entered except when he followed the prince out of the gates, it's obvious his loyalty lies with the prince. So where do I come from in this strange ordeal? Am I a pun or just a means of amusement? Have I only been here just for formalities? Or truly could there be a reason deeper than what meets the eye? Like the head maid said… Getting to his wing of the castle, still speechless, I followed him dying to speak my mind, so many questions, what does h
Chapter 14…“Your Highness?” I questioned as I slowly turned around, my eyes grew wide upon seeing him barely clothed, his chest bared, trails of either water or sweat tracing down his bare chest to his narrowed waist area where his pants started. His long hair all over the place sticking to his face because of the sweat perhaps. His arms are toned, of course, he is a warrior. A general I learned recently. Scars ran through his arms and across his chest perhaps from the battlefield. How can he look the way he does and still have a perfect body to accompany it…“My face is up here Freyja,” he said, his voice filled with irritation, embarrassed I looked away, how could I shamelessly stare at a man like that while unmarried?“What are you doing here?” he asked, his voice still filled with annoyance, his mood must be sour. Of course, that is his thing, his mood never stays consistent, I remember leaving him in a good mood hours ago.“Uhm I was…oh yeah…I was this close to finding out ... w
Chapter 13…Two nights passed right before my eyes with ease, I overestimated myself, I spoke too soon with so much confidence, there was nothing that would have probably given me the illusion that I could overcome this, well expect delusion.Every he counts it for me, here I am on the third day and I am afraid it will soon come to an end without a single clue, turns out pretending to be friendly with the rest of the maids wasn't really a good idea, it's clear as day they avoid me almost like they fear me, perhaps because of my wolf blood or my position, becoming the prince's personal maid means I am closer to him so perhaps they fear I will report every of our discussion to him.Just every time I think I am close to figuring it out something off happens proving it's not the person.“Why are you not with the prince?” I immediately recognised the voice as I looked up from the bucket of fruits I was washing. The head maid, I haven't laid eyes on her for days. I have always wondered where
Chapter 12….Close, too close that all I could perceive is his scent, too close I forget to even focus on the door. Strangely, I was supposed to be irritated by him but every time I try to think about it I find out that I truly don't have a deep resentment for him. Perhaps because I know deep down I don't deserve to be resentful. I simply have no right rather my hatred comes from a pretentious act.No matter what and how I try to paint it, I didn't suffer enough in him and his men's hands, not like the other slaves who clearly have a strong resentment. They have every right to be. They were taken from their land where they could have a say in their lives, their properties probably destroyed and brought to ruins and the rest of the people who were not brought back now under new leadership tied to the Empire of LYTHRIA. Even if they escape one day there is no home to return to. You can see it in their eyes. The strong resentment and willingness to continue living. And I on the other ha
