"I will tell you about my father not because I want some sort of sympathy or momentary companionship but because I just want to get it off my chest and moreover, we might never see the moment we finally alight this bus just like you assert " I said. "Okay Ella Moore. " said Trevor. "Tell me about Mr. Moore. " he added. I took a deep breath, heaved a sigh and began. "My father never really cared for him. Infact he doesn't. " "Why are you conclusive about that. " interrupted Trevor. "At my graduation in nursery school, he never showed up, when we did plays in high school and parents would come to watch thier kids perform, my mom was always the one there. " I said with tears welling in my eyes. "Maybe he got occupied and your programs clashed with his schedule. " said Trevor. "Hey don't look at me that way. " after he noticed the stern look I was giving him. "Okay fine. Your dad wasn't really present and it's not nice. " he said. "Not nice for an only child. " I added. "Is that why you are such a brute? " retorted Trevor. "What? " I asked. Jeken and Mary were already fast asleep. They were sitting on our laps and thier faces were resting on the armchairs of the luxury bus. "I mean is it because you are an only child that's why you are a brute? " said Trevor. "Just kidding. " he added. "The genesis is that my father also wanted a male child and I turned out to be a female and the circumstances surrounding my birth were so grave that it ruined my life. " I stated. "What circumstances? " asked Trevor in a confused tone.
"When my mom was due for delivery, she couldn't undergo natural birth due to some complications so I was a product of a surgery and my mother's womb got damaged. She was not to have children anymore... Stuffs like that. " I said. Trevor nodded and said "look its not your fault. I know you don't need sympathy but it's not your fault that you are a female child, that your mother's womb got ruined and she can't have children. " "I wish my father understood that. " I replied. "I think I am getting the point now. " Trevor said. "Your father then transfered his frustrations on you. All the hell fate made him undergo, he unleashed it on you. " he said. "Yea for twenty years now. " I said with tears running down my cheeks. "I am so sorry Ella. " said Trevor. "Here. " he said handing me a blue handkerchief. "Thanks. " I replied after collecting it. "You know, I am an only child too. " he said. "I wish my father never existed like yours. " I blurted. "Hey. " chuckled Trevor. "Am damn serious. It will be better if his annoying shadow never casted in my life. " I said. "You know what? Mr Moore never bought things for me willingly. I had to ask or my mom had to beg. He made me feel worthless. He always did." I said. "Ouch that's bad but you see... " Trevor was saying when we suddenly heard a loud groan from the back of the bus.
"Her water just broke. " screamed a man from behind. "What water? " I asked. "I knew it the moment I saw her. The woman was due for delivery the moment I saw her. " replied an elderly lady in the bus There were mummurs in the bus and the driver had to stopped after being notified that a pregnant passenger was in labor. "The nearest town from here is fifty kilometers. " screamed the driver. "Why the hell will she be on this bus on such a long trip if she knew she was due. " screamed the driver. "We are in the middle of nowhere talk more of getting her to a hospital. " screamed a young man. "She's so gonna waste our time. " he added. "Are you nuts? " screamed Trevor at him. "Can't you see the hell she is going through? Must you be so insensitive... Talking about time and shit.. " Trevor was now arguing with the guy while I noticed that the woman had come down from her chair and was groaning on the bus floor."Anyone going to check on her? " I yelled at the passengers. "Any doctor or nurse here.? " asked Trevor. There was none. "How worse can this get. " said the guy who was quarreling with Trevor. Jeken and Mary's mother went to the woman, bent over and said "it's okay dear. Do you have any stuff near. Delivery stuff, baby stuff? " "Its.... It's up here. " she said pointing to the top part of the luxury bus where luggages are kept. "The red bag. " the woman in labor managed to say. "Ehmm I need help. I've never done this before but I need some women here with some experience. " said Jeken and Mary's mother. I looked around the bus and saw that the females were less than 10 and only two were adult women. The old lady and Jeken and Mary's mother. The old lady went closer and said "let's do this. Everyone leave the bus. " and the passengers began to alight one after the other. We all alighted and I discovered that Trevor was still in the bus. "You guys stay with the people here and don't move an inch. " I said to Jeken and her sister. I went back into the bus and saw the woman screaming and sweating while the elderly lady knelt with her hands wide stroking the woman's tummy. Jeken and Mary's mother was controlling her legs while Trevor was behind the woman stroking her hair. He was saying. "Look madam your baby will be fine. Just breath slowly. Look at me. You'll be fine. Hey listen.. " I was shocked and I ran out of the bus immediately. Around 11am, the woman had been delivered of a boy while we were on our way to Gauge town: the nearest town so we could drop her and her new baby in the nearest hospital. This journey seems to be something else and it's evident the regular twenty four hours won't take us to GreenLand not after the bus breakdown, the delivery event and now that we are on our way to a hospital.
The woman was seated on the luxury bus floor holding her baby tight and smiling from ear to ear. The bus was immediately cleaned and disinfected after her delivery. I looked at her and loved the atmosphere around her. Some passengers were still getting over the shock that a baby had just been delivered on the bus. In almost an hour, the bus pulled in front of Gauge general hospital. We were in Gauge town. After the bus stopped, Trevor quickly got down and return few minutes later with some nurses and a stretcher. The elderly lady and I helped the woman down while Jeken and Mary's mother held the baby. Soon, she was placed on the stretcher and taken inside the clinic."You guys should hurry up. We've wasted enough time already. " said the driver. Inside Gauge hospital, the woman was placed in the maternity ward and was being provided with the necessary medical care. Her husband and closest family had been contacted. "You should have stayed back and had the baby in Numan. " Trevor told her. "My husband insisted. It's our first baby. He wanted to be by my side and share in the experience. Due to his work, he can't come so I had to go meet him in Greenland " she said. "It's so unfortunate. " I replied. "Then you should have travelled earlier. " said the elderly lady. "We were expecting the baby next week. That's what I was told at the hospital. I would have left earlier though. I had to put some things together. " she said. "The delivery date is not always standard. It's just a guide. Sometimes it's earlier than expected or a bit late. " said Mary and Jeken's mother. "Exactly. " replied the nurse taking care of the woman. "We must go now. " announced Trevor. "The driver might leave without us. " I added. "Of course you guys need to go. I am eternally grateful to you especially you. " she said looking at Trevor. "The young man did magic. We were both focusing on the baby forgetting that the mother's coperation determines the baby's existence. He made it easier for her owing to the fact that it was her first delivery. " said the elderly woman. "Awnn. " exclaimed the nurse. "Such a gentleman. " she added. Trevor blushed and just when we were about to leave, the woman stopped us. "Your name please? " she asked Trevor. "Trevor. " he said. "My baby shall be called Trevor then. " she declared. The women were clapping and cheering. "My husband said I could name the baby whenever he is born so there's no better name than Trevor. " she said while Trevor ran to her bedside, hugged her and clicked a picture of the baby with his smartphone. The bus was horning now. "Let's go mister godfather. " I said pulling his arm.
Soon, the bus was moving. It was three minutes past 12pm. "We will arrive late. This 24 hours journey might take 48 hours. " said the annoying guy who quarreled with Trevor earlier. "As long as we arrive safely. That's all that matters. " said the elderly lady. "Exactly" chorused two old men seating on the last row behind. "We will stop at a food stand shortly. " announced the driver. "You guys should hurry with your lunch when we get there. " he said. "You amazed me. " I told Trevor. "Is that a complement? " he asked smiling. "Hey don't you let your large head swell. It's big enough already. " I said smiling back. "Helping a woman to deliver a baby is is.... I just can comprehend... " I said almost stammering. "As a woman, I was so terrified and you were just there encouraging her to push... Mehn that's crazy. You deserve some accolades. " I said to him. "Were you watching? I thought you alighted with everyone else. " he said. "Well I watched a little bit before running down. " I said. "My mother. She is a midwife. " he said. "Ah hah! No wonder. I now see where the delivery skills came from. I wanted to ask whether you are a nurse, midwife or perhaps a doctor by profession. " I replied.
"My mother works in the Life Line Clinic in Numan. One day, a man brought his wife to our home. She was due for delivery and it was midnight. They were staying close to us and the clinic was quite far so I watch my mother help the woman deliver the baby. That was the moment I swore to never disrespect any woman. So much hell to bring out a baby placed in by a man. " he said and we bursted out laughing. Mary and Jeken had gone to be with their mother now. "I just realized that. " he continued. "Mother and child share such a communion and the woman's comfort has a great effect on the baby. " he said. "You did well Trevor. " I said. "What you did is kindda special and it was nice that the woman named her baby after you. " I said. "Awwn. " he said. "How nicer can you get now. " he said while I hissed. "Now let's go back to our tale of secrets before we get to the bus stand for lunch. Tell me about your father. " I said. "Of course I will. " He said and then began.
"My mother met with my dad in Greenland. She had gone there for her midwifery course and she took in during her final year period. " he paused then stared at me and continued. "She had to come back of course. She wanted my father to come home with her in Numan and acknowledge his child but... But... " he was stammering now. "But what? " I asked slowly. "That he wasn't ready. " replied Trevor. "Wasn't ready? " I asked again. "Yea that he needed to sort himself, he wasn't ready to father a child then. He wanted my mom to stay back with him and..... " he stopped. "She wasn't going to remain in Greenland raising a baby without her parents consent. " I replied. "Exactly. " he quickly replied. "So why are you on this bus to meet a man that wasn't even prepared to have you or is he prepared now? " I further asked. He said nothing. "Am sorry I don't mean it that way just that I feel he should be the one running to you not the other way round. " I said. "A
"I am terribly missing my mother." I told him. "You should call her. " he said. "Never. " I screamed probably so loud that the lady in front of us had to turn around. "Well you are having issues with your mom not your dad. So you should call her. " Trevor insisted. "You don't understand. " I said to him. "Yes I don't understand why you can't place a simple phone call to your poor mother telling her how you are doing. She must be worrying to death. It's been almost six hours she hasn't heard a word from you. " he said. "I can't call her. They'll find me. I can't take chances. " I told him. "I understand you are running away from Mr. Moore but perhaps a text message will do. Text your mom informing her that you'll be fine and just need some time to cool off. " he said. "I can't. " was my reply. "So you gonna call her when you get to GreenLand? " he asked. I didn't utter a word. "The people you are going to stay with in Greenland. Aren't they relatives, or maybe
"She meant Bella not Ella. " said Trevor to the lady in front of us who was still staring at us. "You know kids. They get confused alot. " he continued. "She must have heard how they were trying to fish out one Ella Moore earlier so she.... You know? " he said trying to convince the lady while swinging his head from side to side the way he does. The lady nodded and turned around. "Hey little one. " he said addressing Jeken. "Aunty ell... I mean Bella's phone is down. The battery went dead. You can't play any game with it right now. " he told the little girl who nodded and left a little bit disappointed. I was beginning to sweat and God knows if Trevor didn't intervene, I don't know how I would have handled the situation. "May God save me from addressing you as Ella. " he whispered into my ears. "I am Bella Brown now. " I whispered back. "I hope I don't forget that. " he whispered to me again. "So you guys are whispering now. " screamed the elderly lady. "Nothin
"Hey Lilly. " he screamed and ran to meet the strange lady. "Is that you? " he asked her holding her wrist and looking at her from head to toe. "What are you doing here? " she asked him. Meanwhile, I was standing by the corner watching Trevor exchange pleasantries with this dark skinned lady called Lilly. "Meet my friend. " he told her while pulling her closer to me. "She is.. " "Bella. " I said quickly before Trevor could forget and say Ella. "Hi. " said the lady while extending her hand to me. I shook her and said "Hello. " ", This is Lilly. " began Trevor. "We were course mates at the University. " he said. I smiled halfway and nodded. "Is she your girlfriend now? " asked Lilly. "No. " I quickly replied. "So what are you guys doing around here? " Lilly further asked. "We are on a luxury bus to GreenLand. It broke down few meters behind so we are here to grab something to eat. " Trevor told Lilly. "What are you doing here? " he asked her. "I live in this com
In as much as I wanted to Kiss him, I knew I had my dignity to protect. This is is a man I met on a luxury bus twelve hours ago. Also, I have been made to understand that he has his way around women therefore I shall not fall for this temptation else I'll be added to his edless list of rakish accomplishments. "Do it. " blurtred Trevor as if he just read my mind. We were still facing each other and I swear I was begining to burn from the inside with this sudden desire. "Do what? " I retorted. "Kiss me. " he said in a slow and erotic tune. "Never. " I replied then chuckled. He laughed and turned his head facing the bus and I did the same. "You are scared aren't you? " he asked. "No not really. " I said. "You are not just attractive enough. " I added. He laughed and said "I know the problem. One. Either you are a terrible kisser or two either you are being conscious. But I'll go for point two. " he said. "Whatever. " I said. "You don't want to kiss a man who had practically kisse
Hey! Look who is hugging me now. " said Trevor. I quickly broke off the embrace . "You know? " he continued. "Early this morning you wouldn't say hi to me now look how far we've gone. " he said and chuckled. "Hey don't feel so special. " I replied. "It doesn't mean that I'll beg you to take me along as you claim. " I added. "Let's get some sleep. It's past 3:am. We need all the sleep we can get. " he said. I nodded. Few minutes later, I heard Trevor saying to me. "You can't sleep can you? " "Uhmm am not feeling sleepy. " I lied. "Of course you are. Your eyes say so. " he retorted. "You are scared. You are scared you might get another nightmare aren't you? " he asked. "Probably. " I replied then coughed. 'Let's do this. I'll tell you about the scariest night of my life and you tell me about yours. " suggested Trevor. "Am not sure if I can do this. " I replied shaking my head in disapproval. "You can. I'll go first and don't you worry. You don't have to tell me about your scarie
"No. " replied Trevor. "What? " I asked in a low tune. "I want to grab you and kiss you so badly but I won't. " he said. I felt disappointed and said turning then turned my head around the other way. "Don't feel disappointed. " he said. I instantly felt stupid. 'How could I have begged a random guy to kiss me. Someone I barely know. ' I thought and cursed myself for being shameless. "Ugrh" I silently groaned in frustration. 'How can I be this stupid and so cheap. ' I thought. 'Damn what came over me? ' "Goodnight. " said Trevor then he fell asleep. I closed my eyes and curled up facing the other way in shame. I was just refused a kiss by a guy. 'Trevor must be thinking I've falling for him now. ' I thought. I closed my eyes in anger and was soon fast asleep. I was then tapped on my knee. "Wake up. Good morning. " Trevor said. I pressed my phone. It was quarter past 7:am. "Breakfast stand. " Trevor said pointing outside the window. The bus wasn't moving. "It's
I am glad everything is sorted and no life is lost except for Charles Wagman who is in the emergency unit. Trevor and I are okay and the fact that he didn't have any scratch makes me marvel. 'What a hell of a journey ' I immediately looked away while Trevor didn't shake. I began taking his hand out of mine so I could sit up properly. "You are awake? " he asked after I finally managed to disintegrate his hand from mine and sat wit my bed against the wall. "Yes am fully awake. " I replied with a half smile. He scratched his head with the edge of his nail and said"Hungry? " I nodded in approval. "Let me see what I can get around. " he said standing up. "They sell things around here? " I asked him. "There might be an eatery close by. I'll check with one of the nurses. " he said then left while I stared at him in admiration with a smile. Shortly after he left, Trevor returned with a plastic full of hamburgers and some fresh milk. "You sure do know how to pick
Before we got into the taxi that was taking us to my home, we had arranged our luggage and the gifts we came with in the car trunk. My mother had asked me to inform her the moment I had arrived so she could come and pick me at the park but since we made use of an airplane, I didn't see the need to call her. The taxi driver finally pulled up in from of our house. The cruel sun was shining brightly and most of the people were indoors except for passers-by. Trevor sorted the taxi driver and he arranged our stuff beside my house gate. He left and Trevor clung to my hand. "Let's go in." he said and gave me the look that says "I'm right here." Surprisingly, the gate wasn't locked as usual so I gave it a slight push and it was wide opened. We stepped inside and the first spot that caught my attention was the right angle of the verandah, the exact place where I had landed a pestle on my father's head a week ago. I was glad when I noticed a few shoes outside the entrance, on
I slowly opened my eyes and got out of my bed. "8 am" I mumbled after checking the wall clock hanging above my bed. I had mixed feelings. In as much as I wanted to go home, I was saddened by the fact that I was going to leave Stephanie, Harrison and Anna not forgetting the domestic staff whom I was all getting accustomed too. I completely forgot that Stephanie had gifted me a mobile phone. I had taken a shower and packed my stuff in the little luggage bag I came with. Just when I was about to step out of the room, my phone rang. It was Trevor calling. I picked up the call. "Are you downstairs yet?" I asked Trevor after we greeted each other. "Yes and you need to come here soonest. Breakfast is being served." he announced. " I'll be there shortly." I said and hurried downstairs. The living room was filled up. Harrison, Stephanie, Annabel, Clara, Sam, Venitia, Joe and Trevor were all in the living room. "What are these?" I whispered to Trevor a
"So tell me. Why are you guys lying to everyone?" Anna demanded. She crossed her legs and gave me the look that says 'Start talking.' "We are lying because we have to." I told Anna and she gave me a weird stare which signalled that she had no idea of what I was talking about. "Trevor and I just met and it will seem odd for him to introduce me to everyone as his girlfriend." I tried to explain. "You guys just met? I don't get it. I thought you guys had been friends for two years." Anna pointed out. I lowered my head in shame "That's all part of the lie." "Tell me how it all began." I heaved a deep sigh. "I'll understand if you don't want to talk about it. I will not push you to reveal things you will rather keep a secret." Annabel maintained. "I don't know how it all began. I mean I can't possibly tell exactly when I began having strong emotional feelings toward him but I'll say it all began on the luxury bus." I replied. "I didn't come here because my company sent me. I eloped.
I didn't reply and shortly, Anna returned with two bikinis. "Trevor is a man so he can make use of his boxers." she stated and handed a blue bikini to me. "I've never asked you for anything and this might be the only thing I'll get to ask you so please, let's swim." Anna pleaded with a smile. "Are you blackmailing me?" I asked with a smile. "Fine, I'll walk inside the pool." I agreed In a few minutes, Anna and I had changed into the bikinis. Trevor had gotten into a short and Joe as he told us, was sitting beside the pool sipping his alcohol. The pool was empty except for us. After I stepped out of the dressing room in the blue bikini Anna gave me, Trevor couldn't take his eyes off me. "Don't be caught staring." I whispered into his ears before making my way into the pool. Anna followed me and so did Trevor. Anna carefully placed a large rubber tyre around me. "This will help you float better." she said and asked me to follow her. Trevor was talking to Joe by the corner.
The door was pushed open and two nurses walked in. "Dr. Henry sent us here." the shortest said after we exchanged pleasantries. They were wearing their uniforms. "We will take care of him from now. You guys can rest." the other nurse said. "You guys can leave. I'll stay with them." Stephanie said. She wasn't going to move an inch away from her husband which was expected. "Let me know if there's any slight change." Trevor said before we stepped out of the room. We left Annabel was back in the room with Stephanie. "He will be fine." I assured Trevor after we returned to his room. "I can't believe he had been blacking out on several occasions." Trevor replied after heaving a deep sigh. He couldn't sit. "When he invited you, was he at home then or in the hospital?" I asked and pulled out a water bottle for Trevor from the refrigerator. "When we had our first video call after he contacted me through F******k, he was bedridden and I couldn't tell whether he was in a private ward or it
"Would you mind courting Annabel?" Stephanie spat. I couldn't believe my ears. Annabel was beaming with brightness. "What?" Trevor asked in disbelief. I turned away and felt my heartbeat increasing. "Are you proposing that Trevor dates Annabel? Aren't they old enough to decide for themselves?" Harrison asked and slowly lifted his head. I smiled agreeing with his reply. "From what I've seen in these twenty-four hours, they seem to like each other and we might be planning a wedding soon." Stephanie said Trevor and I exchanged glances and I tried to keep my cool. "I'm not sure whether I'm ready to date anyone at the moment." Trevor told them. "Love happens at the most unexpected places and times. " Stephanie replied. "It all starts with a spark and you have to guide that spark till it explodes into a fire." she explained. "I can't just be in a relationship base on mere assumptions." Trevor charged. "So you are saying you don't like me? " Anna asked with a smile. "Oh come on, you
As expected, we all woke up late the next morning. Trevor, Annabel and I. I woke up with memories of Trevor's assurance of his undying love for me. I sat on my bed and cleaned my eyes with the edge of my palms as I recollect every detail of his love profession the previous night. I brushed my lips with two fingers and smiled. I looked up at the wall clock above my head. It was almost 9 am. I dragged myself out of the bed and traced my way to the bathroom. In less than twenty minutes, I was dressed in blue tight team trousers over a brown shirt. "I knew we were all going to wake up late." Anna said immediately I stepped out of my room. She had stepped out and was going downstairs. "Good morning." she greeted and to my surprise, she gave me a tight hug. I smiled and for once thought differently about her, as a new friend. "Trevor must have gone downstairs or maybe he is getting ready." I said and attempted to knock on his door. Anna was beside me, wearing a comf
I slept for about three hours then I got up around 1 am to pee. Trevor was yet to come. I decided to check on him myself. I carefully went outside and tiptoed to his door. Just when I was about to knock, I heard laughter and music inside. I then noticed that his door wasn't locked. I pushed it open and went inside and my jaw dropped. "What are you doing here?" demanded Annabel. Annabel was standing on Trevor's bed, swaying her hips to the rhythm of the music emanating from her phone while he cheered and clapped for her. "I should be asking you what you are doing here?" I fired back. "Sleepover." she replied with a smile and I felt like strangling her. Her smile was irritating me. "Sleepover huh?" I turned toward Trevor whose lips had begun to tremble. "Anna came for some tutorial in her project and we began talking about music and dance..." Trevor was still speaking. "Then I decided to show off my dance skills and guess what? I wowed him." she interrupted, sounding enthusiastic
"You are single?" Anna threw the question at Trevor. He was single I wanted to reply and when I turned around, our eyes met. "Uhmmm, Yes I am." he managed to say and gave me an apologetic look. "I might as well shoot my shot." she said in a tone that I could swear sounded erotic. I looked at her in the mirror and her legs were crossed, her head was bent over Trevor's face. My heartbeat quickened. "Have some shame Annabel." Joe teased and parked the car. "Coldstone." I pointed out. The atmosphere was odd. Annabel was the first to step out followed by Joe. Trevor was about to follow them and I pulled him by the arm. "What was that all about?" I demanded still clinging to his arm. Joe and Annabel were already making their way into Coldstone. "What are you saying?" "I think Anna is flirting with you." I alleged and folded my hands across my chest. "You must be kidding." Trevor spat and walked away, leaving me standing beside the car. I hurried after him. Annabel had taken out fo
