Chapter 2

That I decided to go home first. When I got there, I received a strong slap from my Mother.

It hurts me even my parents reject me, because they say I'm bad luck in our family. I get a lot of bad words from my parents even my own sister does the same.

"Slut! You're a flirt, you're so different from your sister, a hypocrite!" my mother said after slapping me.

"You're a bad omen to this family, you whore!" my father said.

"This family has been cursed ever since you came into our lives!" my older siblings added.

"We don't have a daughter who is a flirt, a whore, and above all, a useless child!" my mother repeated.

"Mom, Dad!" I could only say to them. "Since I've been able to think for myself, I've never understood why you always mistreat me," I said, sobbing. "Now I want your care and love as my parents, I want you to be my support in my problems. But you are also the ones who will give me reason to sink deeper into the mud." I said to them, still crying. My chest hurt so much, it felt like I couldn't breathe, so I hit my chest.

"Shut up, you slut! If you weren't so stupid and got yourself impregnated by a man, this wouldn't have happened," my mother said.

"Tsk! She's a fool, that's why she got tricked," my sister said.

"Get out of this house, Rhian, because you are a disgrace to this family," my father said.

"Can I just ask, are you really my parents?" I asked them, but instead of answering my question, they immediately dragged me outside and slammed the door shut.

I didn't bring anything, just a few things and the money I saved from working. Thankfully, I had it with me.

So I promised myself that from now on, I would never return to that place unless I achieved my dream. I would show those people who hurt and abandoned me that they would meet a different Rhian.

Even though I had little money, I ventured to another place until an old woman was willing to help. I would return to the place where I was rejected by my parents, hurt and betrayed by the man I first loved.

Despite all that, I didn't lose hope. My child was my only source of strength to continue living and face the challenges of life.

I couldn't do anything about my situation. I felt sorry for myself, but I never lost hope. I continued walking, even though my clothes were soaked with sweat.

While I walked in the middle of the road, the heat and thirst were unbearable, so I endured walking to find shelter, even if it was just for today. But fate was cruel to me. None of my friends or relatives were willing to help me. A mix of pity and fear for myself filled me as I held my belly.

'Child, just hold on, don't let go and don't leave Mama,' I whispered to myself while stroking my small belly.

'It's getting dark, but we don't have shelter, even a makeshift one, child. Why is fate so cruel to us both, child? Lord, if this is a test for me, please don't abandon my child. I know that all the trials you have given us, we can't handle, but Lord, I can't take it anymore. I just wish, I hope you send someone to help me, even if it's just for my child,' I said to myself, unable to stop the tears from flowing down my cheeks until I couldn't stop myself from feeling dizzy.

But in the middle of my walk, I couldn't hold back my feelings anymore. So I slowly sat down on a dark road, where no one even passed by. Even though I was terrified, I couldn't do anything because of my situation, especially since my womb was aching.

"Lord, whatever happens to us now, I will fully accept it if that's what you want. You take care of me and my child," I said, but only a faint voice came out of my mouth.

Then, my body slowly collapsed onto the cold cement road.

THE NEXT DAY

I woke up to the sound of a machine, so I slowly opened my eyes, but all I saw was white.

'Maybe this is what they call heaven, if so, I'm dead. I'm sorry child, you got caught up in my bad luck,' I said to my child while waiting for it, but I stopped when I felt a pulse from it, so I was immediately confused by what I saw.

"You're alive child? But aren't you dead too like me?" I said to it.

Then a man in white came in, approaching where I was.

"Good morning?" the man said.

"Sir, am I still alive?" I said, unable to even return his greeting.

"Yes! Of course," he replied. "You and your child are safe," he added. While we were talking about what I needed to do to prevent anything from happening to my child, what I shouldn't do, a woman suddenly entered, I think she was 50+ years old.

"Good morning Madam!" said the doctor, who was now just a lady in posture.

"Good morning, how is she? Is her pregnancy okay?" the old woman asked the doctor.

"Yes madam, they are both okay! Don't worry," the doctor replied.

"Hay! Thank the Lord God. Hello dear, I'm the one who brought you here. Do you want to call any family so they know what's happening to you?" said the old woman. "By the way, I'm Matilda Suarez Lim," she said to me, which surprised me because even though she was 50+, you could see her beauty.

"I'm Rhian Andam Suarez, I don't have a family anymore, Madam. They rejected me because they said I was a bad omen for our family, especially when they found out I was pregnant, so I wandered the streets looking for a place to stay," I said to her, unable to stop remembering what happened to me with my own family, as my tears flowed like unstoppable water.

"What kind of parents are they, shhhh! Don't cry, if you want, come with me. Don't worry, I'm not a bad person. I'll help you get back on your feet, I guess it was really destined that I would find you because believe me, we both have the same surname, Suarez," she said to me, smiling. So I was also infected by her beautiful smile.

"Thank you Madam, but__," the old woman immediately cut me off.

"Shhhh! From now on, call me Mommy, I'll take care of everything, I'll bring you to the USA," she said to me. Even though my fate there was uncertain, I immediately agreed and thanked her profusely, especially the Lord who gave me someone like Madam Matilda.

A week passed since I stayed in the hospital, my strength quickly returned, and many people said we looked alike, Madam Matilda and I. They said we were like split fruits, which Madam liked.

"Ma Mommy!" even though I hesitated to call her Mommy, I had no choice because that's what she wanted. I told her that her children might get angry if they found out that someone else was calling her Mommy, but her face became sad when I said that.

"My only daughter has been dead for a long time, she died while I was giving birth to her, it's painful, but we need to move forward, we've adopted many times, but the same thing always happened, I feel like I'm just unlucky when it comes to having children," she said smiling, even though there was sadness in her eyes. "But it's okay because you're going to be my child now, and my grandchild will be in your womb. I'm so excited to see my grandchild," she added.

So I just smiled at what she said.

"Thank you Mommy for accepting me, even though I'm not related to you, you're willing to help me," I said to her. "I'm so lucky because you're the one God gave me, a good heart willing to help me and my future child," I added.

"There must be a purpose for the Lord, child, why we were brought together in that situation."

We immediately smiled at what we said.
