“F-fine, fine, you can do a DNA test with your child. T-tomorrow, tomorrow is fine!” she stammered, and I couldn’t help but smirk at her desperation.

“No, it has to be done now. Tomorrow I have important matters to attend to,” I said, standing up from my chair. It was already lunch time, and I wanted to get this over with. I started walking towards the door, but Carmela remained standing there, as if she had no intention of leaving.

“Let’s go!” I urged, and she finally started walking toward me. She reached for my arm, but I quickly sidestepped, catching the shift in her expression from annoyance to frustration.

Before long, we arrived at the ground floor, where many employees were glancing at me with curiosity. I could feel their eyes shift to the two women accompanying me.

As we walked, someone suddenly bumped into Carmela, and she reacted sharply, scolding the child for dirtying her clothes. I ignored it at first, but then Carmela’s voice cut through the air.
