Mel's POV

I can smell his addictive scent on the shirts. That means he picked them out for me personally instead of having one of our warriors fetch them from the mall.

My heart begins to beat way too hard and fast. It's like I can actually feel it breaking as I hold the Evanescence shirt in my hand.

Elinda must have noticed the despondent look on my face because worry lines appear on her forehead as she stares at me. "What's wrong, sweetie?" she asks softly.

"I...I just need a moment," I croak, running out the back door. I lean against the railing on the porch as I take deep breaths, trying to pull myself back together.

The waning gibbous in the sky is shining as if it's reminding me that the full moon is tomorrow. Within the pitch-black woods, five pairs of eyes watch me steadily. The warriors' are on babysitting duty like their Alpha ordered them to do.

Asshole.

He gets me the best gifts I could've asked for, and I can't even thank him in person. Why couldn't he be here tonight? He
