ENORA

I knew Nikolai was lying when he said he hadn’t hurt Camilla, yet a part of me wished earnestly that he had at least spared Maria. It was true that she was the one who informed Camilla that Nikolai was away, but that was all the part she played in what happened yesterday and I honestly didn’t think it was something she deserved to die for.

It was also hard to blame Nikolai if he had killed either of them. Aside from the fact that he was a ruthless Russian crime leader, I’d recognized the look in his eyes yesterday as fear.

The way his dilated blue eyes bore into mine, the trembling of his hands as he held me, he must have realized he was about to lose the greatest asset he had to bring my papa down.

An asset.

I guessed that was all I could ever be to him. I rubbed my hands on my belly, it was hard to shake off the feeling that right now, he only wanted me because I was carrying his child. He would probably dump me the moment I gave birth to this baby, and the idea of that made

I forgot how to breathe. We stared at each other.“God, baby.” He gripped my waist, making my clitoris brush on his hard dick. Only a psycho like him could have an erection during a conversation like this, and I was just as much of a psycho as he was because I needed to be satisfied—pulled onto him and ride him till I came. “You think I don’t love you?”“I know you don’t.”“That’s bullshit, baby.” I loved the way he called me baby; I think I loved it as much as I loved when he called me malysh. “I would burn the whole fucking world to the ground if you ask it of me, I would lay my life at your feet if need be for it, I want to worship the very ground you walk on. If that isn’t love, then I don’t know what the hell it is.”“Wait…did you just—”“I’ll kill every single person who touches you, malysh.” He held his hand over my belly. “Fuck, you don’t know how much I want to give the world to you and our baby.”A tear rolled down my eyes without warning. I glanced away in shame, these fu

ENORA I sniffled the smell of omelets and fried beef. I hadn’t eaten those in so long and I don’t know if it was because of the baby, but now that I perceived them, I had a feeling I’d crave them all day.I’d fallen asleep on Nikolai’s chest while discussing possible unisex baby names for the little Lantsov growing inside of me. Nikolai had chosen Liliya because he was positive it would be a little girl that we’d cherish like the lily flower. I’d had a different opinion though; I’d chosen Aleksis because I had a strong feeling it would be a boy. We’d gone ahead and made a bet on one of us granting the winner a wish. I giggled because I knew I’d be right. I had to start thinking of what wish I’d ask Nikolai to fulfill. I moved my hands behind me in search of Nikolai. I supposed he’d rolled away from me in his sleep but quickly opened my eyes when I realized the bed was empty.Sunlight poured into the room, lighting dust particles in the air. I glanced around, noticing the portrait of

NIKOLAI I didn’t take Enora to the other clubs she’d been to; I chose to take her to the biggest Lantsov club in New York. The one where the richest guys with the biggest influence in the city came to have fun at night. I’d wanted to show her off to the whole fucking world and mark her as mine. I also wanted to make it clear that no one was allowed to touch her or hurt her.Flickering that bore my eyes to death welcomed us into the club as we entered, where strippers on heels and spoiled rich kids danced the night away, the smell of alcohol and cigarettes clouding the atmosphere. I watched Enora to make sure she wasn’t irritated by the smell or sound, but she seemed okay with it.“This is the biggest club you own?” Her loud voice pierced the air.I nodded.“It’s really nice,” she said with a gleam touching her face. Her eyes sparkled in the lights, and the smell of her perfume seeped into my senses. “Can we dance?”I wasn’t pleased with that question. I looked at her from head to toe

NIKOLAII hit the wall in frustration before looking over to the source of the annoying voice. Dimitri and Valentin were standing in front of the mahogany door leading into my office. Their expressions were grim, which only pissed me off more. “What the fuck do you want?” “There’s a problem,” Mikhail’s voice chimed in as he joined us, his tone clipped. “Carlos Patrizio knows where his daughter is.” My gaze snapped to Enora instinctively. I could sense Mikhail’s dislike for her radiating off him, but it didn’t matter. She was mine. No one would lay a hand on her, not even him. “You didn’t think to tell me earlier?” My voice was sharp, each word carrying the weight of my rising fury. “I’d have told you if only you picked up your damn cell.” I shoved my hand into my pocket, pulling out my phone. Ten missed calls from Mikhail. Six more from Dimitri. Damn it. “My papa won’t sit back if he knows I’m here. He’d put—” Enora’s words were cut short by a deafening gunshot from the

ENORA Eight months later…“It’s a girl!” Nikolai announced to the room at large, filled with glee and a kind of excitement I’d never seen him wear. “It’s a baby girl.”The doctor and nurse gave me a knowing smile before giving us our privacy.Nikolai came to me and placed the baby in my arms. “She looks just like me,” he boasted. It wasn’t a lie; she had his dark hair and the same blue eyes the Lantsovs were known for. “Looks like you lost the bet, Mrs. Lantsov.”I gave a weak smile; twenty hours of labor was no joke for this cute tiny human to come out looking just like her papa. “What do you want, husband?”He seemed lost in thought for a second, before whispering his answer into my ear. “Kiss me.”“A kiss?”He nodded.“That is all you want with a wish like that?” I rolled my eyes at how naughty he was, suddenly feeling strong enough to give a wide grin. “Choose wisely, Mr. Lantsov, you may never get an opportunity like this one again.”“That is what I want,” he insisted.“Alright.

  • Kings Of The Bratva   Prologue II

LyraMy hands trembled as I stepped into the kitchen while the chef prepared lunch, and my dad sat in his usual chair with a crystal glass in his hands. He looked through the paper—an old habit of his despite having a smartphone. He always said he preferred it that way.It had been several weeks since I last saw Valentin in the city. It had been even longer since I had my last period. The test I took in my ensuite bathroom confirmed my suspicions. It remained on the counter, where I had placed it the moment my whole world seemed to tremble from beneath my feet. While I had no doubt it was Valentin’s, I wanted nothing to do with him after what had happened between us. My only hope remained in my father.I felt myself flush more with every step toward my dad. His eyes met mine once he noticed me, and a bright smile moved across his face.“Ah, my darling Lyra,” he began, flipping through the paper. “The apple of my eye and my most treasured pearl. You are right on time for lunch. Come, t

Lyra The house they brought me to was a different one I hadn’t seen before. It was in an ideal neighborhood with neatly manicured lawns, pools in every backyard, and serenely quiet. The house was even more exquisite, with lavish furnishings and the most expensive décor I think I had ever seen.As we walked through the halls, I found pictures of Nikolai and Enora, as well as some with Liliya. So, it was his house. It made Valentin’s condo look like a hostel. To my dismay, the beautiful house was ripped away from me the moment I was led down a set of stairs to a basement.A chill ran down my spine as we marched down, the guard making me go first. I hadn’t struggled until the moment I reached the cement floor, and the light was switched on.The basement was lit up at once, and panic clenched my chest. The room was huge, with doors leading to other rooms, but the most damning part was the plastic sheets on the floor, along with a single chair. They’re going to kill me.Close to hypervent

  • Kings Of The Bratva   28: Be Brave, Lyra

LyraA few days passed since I returned to my father, and that passage of time only got harder to endure. When I gave in to the boredom, I started reading the stack of books in the bedroom without paying all that much attention to them. It didn’t take long for me to finish them, leaving me with nothing at all.A knock at the door early morning on the fourth day tore me from my empty thoughts, sitting up in bed.Dad poked his head inside again, carrying a tray of food for me. He had the chef make me an omelet with toast and berries on the side. It smelled good, but my stomach had been in knots since I arrived home.An unreadable expression moved across his face while he placed the food on my nightstand. “You’re being returned to the Lantsovs today, my dear.”My heart stopped immediately, and everything around me seemed to still. I blinked through my astonishment, murmuring weakly, “What?”He nodded, handing me the glass of orange juice.I was being handed back over to them. While that

  • Kings Of The Bratva    27: Completely Betrayed

ValentinThe war between us Lantsovs and the Romanos was raging, and we had been horribly ignorant of how big their numbers truly were. We had blind faith in ourselves without ever seeing the bigger picture. We were fortunate to have the Chesters as backup, even if that was a sore spot. Lyra’s betrayal put Barnes’ interest and loyalty into question, but he swore up and down that he had nothing to do with it. He never even knew they were communicating.Something in the way she had been so secretive about it helped me believe he didn’t know anything.Gritting back my anger, I looked down at the casino floor, fists clenched.Likely thanks to Lyra, the Romano men had grown immensely since they managed to intercept multiple dealings. With all the money and resources they snagged from us, they multiplied their numbers and reached beneath our noses. We were forced to up our guards since then, especially around me and the casino. We weren’t taking any chances, not after what had happened.I

LyraCarefully, Dad crossed the room and sat against the edge of the bed, offering me my space still. “For making you choose such a difficult decision at your age without asking for the full picture. And for wagering your hand to advance my position in New York. This isn’t an excuse, but I did it for our family.“I know it only drove a wedge between us, and it hurt me every day to know you were out there on your own because of me, just as it was when I married you off to Valentin. You are right. It was all because of me, but I only hope you can see things from my perspective too.”“It hurt when you wanted me to abort my child,” I managed to say through the tears. “I needed your support, and you tore it away from me. I was prepared to never forgive you for it.”Dad nodded, cloaked by his own sadness that surprised me. “You have every reason to be angry with me. You don’t owe me forgiveness, but I hope one day I may earn it again.”The thought of simply letting go of everything that had

LyraI never thought I’d ever see the inside of my childhood bedroom again, but it turned into my makeshift prison.Valentin said he wasn’t my jailor, but he gave that responsibility to my father instead. The driver brought me back to Philly and handed me back to my dad as if I had never been married to Valentin in the first place. Beyond unworthy of even my apparent husband’s presence. They were worried I was still a threat to their empire, keeping me as far away from it as possible, thanks to my apparent betLyral. It made me worry he was working toward getting a divorce.Worst of all, I was kept away from Charlie. No matter how I shouted and screamed, nobody would bring my baby to me.Being separated from my son was the hardest part. It tore me up inside, leaving my cheeks stained and eyes dry from crying so much. Even if my marriage was ruined, I just wanted my boy. I had never been away from him for so long, and it was killing me.If everything else was lost, I at least wanted to

LyraPacing the length of the living room, I debated texting Valentin then and there. I had to warn him before anything happened—before he could be injured or killed. The thought gripped the back of my neck like an icy hand, and regret flooded my chest.Even if I hated him for what he did and for agreeing to the marriage pact, I never would’ve wanted that for him at his worst. He didn’t deserve to be hunted down by someone I didn’t even know.He was the father of my child, and we had gotten so far with our unorthodox relationship. Everything had been perfect, except for my inability to tell him about the unknown number. We had started to trust one another again, and I was sure I had ruined it immediately. Our time together had reignited those old feelings I had for Valentin, and I had to fix things before they got worse.Unable to handle the thought of waiting any longer, my hand shook as I pulled out my cell phone and pressed his contact. Before I could type anything, the door slamme

Valentin More disbelief flooded my system at that, wondering what he could possibly be on about. Things between me and Lyra had been perfect. We found a mutual understanding, and I had been working to fix things between us.Our sex life had been mind-blowing, and it felt like we were taking steps in the right direction. There was no way she had been texting anyone behind my back. I would’ve known. She wouldn’t dare.“That’s impossible,” I grumbled beneath my breath, aware of the dread that loomed above me, waiting to strike. I fished my phone out of my pocket and clicked through my apps.“What are you doing?” Nikolai asked in a hushed tone, glancing at my phone.“Making sure this rat isn’t telling the truth, or else he’ll be wearing a bullet in his head.”“It is the truth,” Enzo added, eyes filling with concern. “I have no reason to say otherwise.”“Shut up,” Dimitri growled, slapping the captive with the butt of his gun.The man yelped in pain, shoulders slumped as he breathed deepl

ValentinTensions were high in the warehouse. Our captive from the ambush was bound to his chair in the middle of the room, blood dripping from his broken nose. His breath shallowed, glancing between us lazily.Nikolai and Dimitri stood before him, with the latter’s knuckles already stained crimson. He flexed his fingers, unbothered by the hits he had already given him.“What’s your name?” Nikolai asked, looking at him with a neutral expression. The man hesitated, then grit through his teeth, “Enzo.”“Well, Enzo, consider yourself lucky that you might just be useful to us,” he murmured, pacing in front of him slowly. “But the moment that stops, we won’t hesitate to send a message.”All it took was a glance in Dimitri’s direction, and he swung, hitting his face with a sickening sound.Enzo recoiled in his chair, taking full force without any other choice. He grunted from the impact, chest heaving. Blood seeped into his mouth, and he spat to the side, breathing hoarsely through the pain

  • Kings Of The Bratva   21: Betrothed?

LyraI was surprised by how smoothly life had been ever since Valentin explained himself. The weeks had gone by, and we were doing better than we ever had. We were in a good place, co-parenting Charlie and working on understanding one another better. I was glad, and we were happy.I even noticed a difference in our son since his father came into our lives. He had always been a good kid, but his excitement and joy were contagious. Whenever he had the chance, Valentin spent time with him and took him places, always looking to expose him to new experiences. He seemed to flourish, and I enjoyed watching them interact with one another. Seeing his effort first-hand was everything I had hoped for.Padding down the hall and into the kitchen, I saw it was nine in the morning, and the condo was suspiciously quiet.A sticky note on the counter caught my attention, and I reached for it.It was from Valentin, letting me know that Charlie was with Enora and Liliya for the day.
