Chapter 47: Roan

I get her name out before the canoe flips and we get dumped into the spring-fed lake. Even though it's late September, the water is still warm. Otherwise, this would suck a whole lot more.

As I surface, Ivy sputters next to me as she treads water. There's a thin veneer of shock coating her expression as if she can't believe what happened.

"The canoe," she gasps. It's turned over and bobbing upside down in the water next to us.

A more pertinent question would be- "Are you okay? Do you know how to swim?"

A gurgle of laughter escapes from her lips. "You probably should have asked that before we went out in the boat!"

I grin. She doesn't seem angry over our current predicament. Some girls would be seriously pissed off at finding themselves floating in the middle of a lake. "You're right, I should have." Since she's treading water next to me like a champ, I'm pretty sure she knows how to at least doggie paddle. "I need to get this canoe turned over so we can get back to shor
