Why couldn't Curtis grasp her feelings?

As Margot sensed her emotions escalating, she quickly composed herself and uttered, "I'll go change my clothes then."

Curtis loosened his grip on her arm and watched her walk toward the dressing room.

His gaze shifted, settling on the expansive bed in front of him. It was on this very bed that he had violated another woman. It was in this very room that Curtis did something utterly despicable.

He couldn't even forgive himself for what he had done, so how could he expect Margot to forgive him and spend the rest of her life with him with their child? He wasn't worthy of it.
