Sky

I’ve been locked in this room for hours, or maybe longer—I’ve lost track of time. The darkness makes everything feel endless, like I’ve been swallowed whole by nothingness. My wrists ache from the restraints they’ve finally removed, but the ghost of the tight ropes lingers on my skin.

I can’t stop replaying how it all happened. Dare was so close to saving me. He fought so hard, but they held him back, dragging me further and further away. It was like watching hope slip through my fingers.

The moment the helicopter landed, everything moved so fast. They shoved a black bag over my head, blinding me completely. I couldn’t see, but I felt their rough hands forcing me into a vehicle—maybe a car or a van. I don’t even know anymore.

The drive was long, or at least it felt that way. My heart pounded the entire time, thinking Dare might catch up, that he’d tear through their defenses like he always does. But the car finally stopped, and they dragged me out before I even had a chance to fig

Sky The door creaked open late in the afternoon, and a woman stepped inside. She was of average height, wearing a crisp white apron over simple clothes, her dark hair pulled back into a neat bun. “Come, my dear,” she said softly, stretching out a hand toward me. I hesitated for a moment, but then I reached out and took her hand. My legs felt weak as I stood, my body stiff from hours—or was it days?—of sitting in the cold, dark room. I had no idea where she was taking me, but the heavy footsteps behind us reminded me I didn’t have a choice. The guard from earlier was following silently, his gaze boring into my back, a reminder that I wasn’t free. The building was larger than I realized, and the more we walked, the more disoriented I became. Instead of stairs, we entered an elevator, the sterile silver walls reflecting my pale, frightened face. DareThe place was supposed to be a safe house. That’s what I thought. That’s what I told myself. But the second I stepped inside, I knew how wrong I was.The first floor was a graveyard of forgotten lives. Rows of bunk beds lined what should have been regular rooms. But these weren’t rooms. They were cells—numbered, organized, impersonal. On the floor were scraps of what had been left behind—dresses, shoes, jewelry, and even torn underwear. My jaw clenched at the sight. This wasn’t a place of safety. This was a trafficking ring.I made my way to the second floor, repulsed by everything, my heart pounding in my chest. The large office here was different. It had power—or at least it used to. The walls were covered in broken monitors, the static flickering faintly on some, while others displayed grainy images of what used to be cells.Girls.The footage wasn’t clear, but the message was. Women, trapped, pacing like caged animals. Watched. Controlled. I stared at the screens, my fists ti

SkyThe guard opens another door and shoves me inside. The room is dimly lit, and in the center stands a glass case with a wooden frame carved into the shape of a woman. The figure’s arms are spread wide, jutting out through circular holes in the glass walls. It’s grotesque—an object designed to make me feel more like a display than a person.“Get in,” he commands, his voice cold.I just stare at him, frozen in place, unwilling to obey. My defiance doesn’t last long. His face hardens as he grabs me roughly, shoving me toward the glass. I struggle, twisting in his grip, but he’s too strong. His body presses me against the cold surface of the glass, keeping me pinned.“Stop fighting,” he growls, and I feel the sting of tears burning in my eyes as I thrash one last time. It’s no use. He overpowers me with ease. The straps are next. He fastens them around my waist, my arms, my thighs, and ankles, forcing me into the wooden frame. The sensation of the leather biting into my skin is humilia

Sky The man’s grip on me tightened, his hands moving possessively over my body as if he had the right. His fingers trailed down my thighs, and I felt my stomach churn with disgust. I tried to push him away, my voice breaking as I screamed, “Let me go!” But he didn’t listen—he didn’t even flinch. He spread my legs, pinning them between his, his weight trapping me in place. Every muscle in my body screamed to fight, to claw my way free, but his strength overpowered mine. “How is it possible to get a girl like this?” he asked casually, his tone light as if discussing fine wine or art. He looked at Mr. M with a smirk. “It must’ve been tough for you, Mr. M.” My eyes darted to Mr. M, silently pleading for him to intervene, but he simply leaned back in his chair. “I don’t mind taking her off your hands,” the man continued, his lips curling into a grin. “How much are you willing to accept for her?” Mr. M’s voice was calm but firm when he replied. “She’s not for sale.” The man chu

Dare The room was small, with dim lights overhead and the hum of an old air conditioner. The man sat trembling in the chair, duct tape binding his hands and legs to the cold steel frame. His face was pale, tears streaking down his cheeks, mixing with sweat that dripped off his chin. I stood over him, holding the baseball bat loosely in one hand, my eyes fixed on him like a predator. “You know,” I began, “the human body has 206 bones.” I leaned in closer, my shadow falling over him, watching as his eyes widened in terror. “Do you want to know how many of those I can break before you pass out? You’d be surprised how much the body can take before it finally gives up.” His breathing quickened, his chest rising. The duct tape creaked against his futile attempts to squirm free, and his cries grew louder. I smirked, taking a step back. “I know you have information,” I said, pacing slowly in front of him. “And I will get it out of you. You can make this easy, or you can make this very, ver

SkyHe pauses mid-step, turning back toward me with slowness, his cane clutched tightly in his hand. My breath catches as he raises the cane to my neck. The cold tip presses against my skin, sharp and unyielding, making me flinch. Then, with a simple flick of his finger on a hidden button, a blade extends from the end of the cane. The tip now rests against my throat, its edge sharp enough to slice with the slightest pressure.“Come for you,” he says, His eyes—dark, and utterly devoid of mercy—bore into mine. I freeze, my body trembling despite my attempts to remain strong. He pushes the blade slightly into my neck. A warm trickle slides down my skin, and I know it’s blood. A drop falls to the floor, the sound barely audible but deafening in my ears.“What makes you think you’re so important to him?” he continues, his tone mocking, as if my very existence is some sort of cruel joke to him. “What makes you believe that, in a world filled with women far more valuable, he would choose you

Twelve men were stationed outside—some lounging near the front gate, a few patrolling the grounds, and others lingering near the back door smoking cigarettes, unaware. At the front, Marco and Theo led the charge. Marco tackled the first guard, slamming his head against the stone wall so hard he crumpled to the ground unconscious. Theo followed, pulling his silenced pistol from his hip and putting two guards down before they even realized what was happening.Behind the house, two of my best snipers, Ivan and Rick, took position on the neighboring rooftop. The faint glint of their scopes caught the moonlight just before two muffled shots rang out. The two guards by the back entrance dropped without a sound, their bodies slumping to the ground.A guard near the garage heard the thud and turned, his hand going for his gun. But Chri

Morning sunlight filtered softly through the curtains of Darla’s room, painting delicate patterns across the hardwood floor. The warmth was gentle, almost coaxing, but she remained curled beneath the covers, knees drawn to her chest, eyes fixed on the phone in her hands. It was an older model, chipped at the edges and slow to respond, but it held pieces of her past she couldn’t bring herself to erase.A hesitant knock at the door broke the silence, and Darla tensed instinctively, fingers tightening around the phone. But the voice that followed was warm, familiar, and a little rough with age.“Darla?” Marcel called softly. “Breakfast is ready downstairs. I made some coffee too—figured you could use it.”She exhaled slowly, the tension bleeding from her shoulders. Marcel’s presence was still new, a puzzle piece she hadn’t expected but found herself clinging to. He was a stranger in some ways—his eyes older, face lined with years of grief and weariness—but the kindness in his gaze was th

Ethan’s knuckles rapped against the door for the third time, the hollow sound echoing through the deserted hotel hallway. He leaned in, jaw clenched tight, heart hammering painfully against his ribcage. Silence stretched on the other side—deafening, absolute. Not even a whisper of movement. He swore under his breath, frustration spiking hot and sharp through his veins. Darla had to be inside. She wasn’t the type to ignore people, no matter how furious or hurt she might have been. Not unless…His breath hitched at the thought, fingers flexing against the smooth wood of the door. No. She couldn’t have left—not without a word, not when there was so much unresolved between them. But the silence lingered, unbroken and oppressive, taunting him with every heartbeat.“Darla!” he called, voice low but urgent, fingers tightening around the door handle. “Open up. We need to talk.”Nothing.An icy tendril of dread curled in his gut, twisting tighter with each passing second. His eyes narrowed, pu

The suitcase lay open on the bed, half-filled with clothes hastily folded and shoes shoved into corners. Darla’s hands trembled as she reached for another dress, the soft fabric slipping between her fingers as she struggled to breathe evenly. Her heart pounded a frantic rhythm against her ribs, her pulse a dull roar in her ears. She bit down on her lip, hard enough to sting, and forced herself to focus—one item at a time, one movement at a time. Pack, zip, leave. Simple. Necessary. Anything to escape the suffocating walls of the hotel room and the possibility of running into him again.Ethan.The name alone sent a fresh wave of panic crashing through her, her fingers faltering around the edge of a blouse. His eyes, dark and unreadable, flashed unbidden in her mind—the way they’d looked at her in the lobby, a mixture of shock and something else she couldn’t name. Something raw and aching that left her chest tight and her breath shallow. She squeezed her eyes shut, forcing the memory aw

Esther’s eyes flicked to the clock on her office wall for the fifth time in as many minutes. Each tick seemed to echo louder than the last, pounding in her ears like a cruel reminder. It was past seven in the evening, the sky outside her floor-to-ceiling windows a dull gray, streaked with the last traces of daylight. Her phone lay face-up on her desk, dark and silent despite the dozen missed calls she had made. She drew in a shaky breath, forcing herself to focus on the financial reports open on her monitor, but the numbers blurred together, meaningless. The cursor blinked accusingly, a taunt to her futile attempts at distraction. Her manicured fingers drummed nervously against the mahogany desk, a tremor betraying her otherwise composed exterior. Two hours. For two hours, she had been calling Roy.And for two hours, he had not picked up. Not once. Her chest tightened painfully, a dull ache settling beneath her ribs. The same ache that had been festering since that night—since Darla h

Author’s POVThe low buzz of conversation filled the VIP section of the Rooftop Bar, but Roy barely registered it. His fingers curled around the neck of his beer bottle, the cool glass slick against his palm. It was already past three in the afternoon, and he was on his third bottle—maybe fourth. He wasn’t even sure anymore. He had come here thinking a few drinks with the boys might clear his head. It didn’t.King’s voice cut through the haze, smooth and casual. “What’s on your mind, buddy?” he asked, leaning back in his chair. The bottle in his hand clinked softly against the table, but Roy’s eyes remained distant, fixed somewhere beyond the dim blue lights flickering above. The atmosphere was suffocating. The heavy curtains blocked out any sunlight, making it impossible to tell if it was day or night. But the gloom felt fitting—an external mirror of the storm churning inside him.Darla.Her name surfaced in his mind unbidden, bringing with it a flood of memories he’d tried and faile

Ethan’s knuckles had turned red the moment he stepped out of the car, his fingers clenched so tightly that the veins beneath his skin protruded like strained cables. He flexed his hand absently, a futile attempt to shake off the tension that seemed embedded too deep to dislodge. The car ride had been mortifying, the low hum of conversation between John and Carlo barely registering. Their voices melded into the background—mere noise compared to the chaos raging inside his head.Darla.She had been right there. Right in front of him. And yet, the instant their eyes met, she had turned and fled. As if he were something to be avoided. As if he were nothing. How many times was she going to keep running from him?A sharp exhale left him, his jaw tightening with barely restrained frustration. He could never forget that face—those eyes, the way her lips parted in that fleeting second before she bolted like a coward. The shrill ringing of the alarm clock waked Darla up. She groaned, her hand fumbling blindly across the nightstand until her fingers closed around her phone. Squinting against the harsh light of the screen, her eyes widened at the numbers glaring back at her.9:12 AM.Panic jolted her up, sending a violent pulse of pain through her skull.Shit. Shit. Shit. Her meeting was at 10 AM. She was supposed to wake up early, go over her notes one last time—not drown herself in alcohol and pass out fully dressed. The nausea hit first, causing the room to spin dangerously. Gritting her teeth, Darla pressed her fingers to her temples as if that could somehow hold her brain together. This is what you get, Darla. The floor tilted beneath her feet as she stumbled into the bathroom. She barely registered the icy chill of the shower before a sharp gasp tore from her throat. The shock of cold water slammed into her, dulling the pounding in her head just enough to think. You don’t have time for this.S
