Ember's POV:

That day, Alpha Nicholus didn't join others for lunch. I heard from someone in the kitchen that he had gone out for a business meeting and would have lunch there. I took a breath of relief and went out to serve the table with Ava.

In the evening, I was working in the kitchen when, all of a sudden, all the chatter around me came to an abrupt halt.

The pin-drop silence I'd never witnessed in the kitchen before made me lift my head.

All the heads were turned toward the door. Frowning slightly, I followed their lines of vision and found Darius's tall and heavy frame filling up the doorframe.

Unbothered by everyone's attention, he stepped inside and walked straight to where Ava was standing. His voice was polite as he said, "Luna is calling you to her chambers with her soup."

Ava nodded and turned toward the counter, "Sure, Beta. The soup is ready."

It only took her a few minutes to set up the tray and saunter out of the kitchen.

Everyone else slowly turned back to their work.

Ember's POV:Jolting back to the present, my hand shot up and I dabbed at my mouth absent-mindedly. A deep chuckle erupted in the air and I halted. As understanding settled inside me, I narrowed my eyes at him but quickly averted them away as I remembered the way I had been eating him with my eyes just a few moments ago. Feeling embarrassed, I lifted the tray higher, “Darius asked me to bring this to you.” As a ridiculous way to defend myself, I said as an afterthought, “But I didn’t know that you would be in here, in the gym.” A moment later, it hit me. My gaze shot to his and the way he was staring at me made it clear that he too was thinking the same thing. Nodding his head slowly, he hummed, “But Darius knew…” I squinted my eyes, “That you would be here, in the gym, working out, shirtless…” His eyebrow twitched higher as he drawled amusingly, “And that you would be affected by that…” “That’s not true,” I almost screamed. A devilish smirk tugged at his lips, “Well, your eyes

Ember's POV:The next day, I woke up to a fit of cough that rattled me to my bones. It was so severe that I was panting heavily when I reached a glass of water. My chest constricted with pain with every breath I took. And headache too was more intense than yesterday and weakness was already wearing me down.I made a mental note to ask Dr. Alina for a dose of Xanadium as I dragged myself through the morning routine.I didn't have the energy to move a muscle at the training grounds, so I felt grateful that Omegas weren't expected to undergo some harsh training. After training hour, I returned to my room and stood under the coldest stream of shower and shivered all the time frigid cold water made contact with my skin.Immediately drying myself, I donned my uniform and made my way to the kitchen.Yesterday, I was about to ask Abi to change my duty to somewhere else but then I changed my plan as I realized that I could, at least, steal some warmth in the kitchen heat. When it was time to s

Ember's POV: The next day, after the lunch hour, Darla announced that it was the day to feed the maddening, starving wolves roaming on the backgrounds of dungeons. Heavy and thick silence prevailed in the kitchen. Even though commanders would be at the forefront of carrying out such a dangerous task they still needed a little bit of the kitchen staff to accompany them with food and everything. Of course, no one was willing to volunteer for such a deadly task. To tackle the situation, Darla decided to send everyone on rotation. She even printed a list and pasted it on the kitchen's notice board. When no one moved, Darla grumbled, "Group 14th was the one to perform the duty last time." There were a total of 15 groups. I didn't need to consult the notice board to know that I was in the 15th group because I was the last to join the kitchen as a staff member. But still, as a confirmation, I glanced at the list and saw my name written among the other members of Group 15. The fact that

Ember’s POV:Loading the meat on the trollies, warriors started pushing them toward the backside of the castle where the dungeon grounds were present. Darius stayed closer to me as I followed them. Before entering the grounds, Darius scanned our surroundings with careful eyes and mumbled under his breath, “Keep your eyes open. I don’t want to lose my sister-in-law right after finding her.”Rolling my eyes, I repeated for the hundredth time, “How many times do I need to tell you not to say that?”He frowned, feigning confusion, “Say what? To keep your eyes open?” and then screeched dramatically, “But I literally said that for the first time ever.”Right after crossing the threshold to the grounds, we all split into teams. Two warriors were accompanied by one Omega.Of course, Darius decided to go with me. Another warrior named Luke, who was dragging the trolley ahead of us, also accompanied us.Exhaling loudly, I asked, “So, how exactly is it done? How do we find the werewolves to feed

Ember’s POV:A shiver ran down my spine and my whole body shook with fear as the wolf dived his head. His canines were just about to dig into my flesh and shred me into pieces when, all of a sudden, something thudded into him so forcefully that his body flew in the opposite direction.Without waiting to process what just happened, my whole body jolted into action and I planted my elbows into the ground and shot up to my feet.A frightful sob escaped my throat and my hand flew to clutch my chest tightly. My heart was thundering in my ribcage maniacally as I panted heavily.I was out of my wits and was trying to process what had just happened when, suddenly, a painful screech pierced the air and my head whipped in its direction. There, a little distance away from me, I saw two wolves colliding with each other in a fierce fight. One of them was the one who had just nearly dragged me to my death while the other had dark gray fur and was slightly bigger than him. They roared and grunted wh

Ember’s POV:Darius's eyes widened as he enunciated firmly, “Neither look behind nor stop until you reach down the hill. Once there, no wolf will be able to harm you. Besides, I’ve sent a mindlink to Alpha. Help must be on its way. Meanwhile, I’ll fight these wolves and try to give you all the time I can.”“Darius, but…” I sniffled through tears, not ready to let him put his life in danger.Shaking his head, he wrapped his hands around me and gave me a quick hug while whispering in my ear, “All I want from you is to try to give Nicholus a chance. Forgive him for his wrongdoings and see him for what he truly is. Give this mate bond a chance. Trust me, you both deserve it.”With this, he broke the hug, immediately turned me around, and nudged to move forward and away from him.As soon as his touch on my back disappeared, I whirled around but he had already vanished in the thin air.I didn't like the fact he was willing to give up his life for me. Nicholus’s POV:I was cooped up in my office with a delegate from the East. Alpha Maddox had once again sent a proposal for a partnership.I was looking lazily at his Gamma as he tallied for the hundredth time about how giving them the rights to manufacture and distribute the BloodMoon Merlot was a good idea. And for the hundredth time, I answered the same as first, “The North respects its positive relations with the East but I won’t agree to any sort of partnership regarding the BloodMoon Merlot.”Gamma stayed quiet for a long minute. And then he leaned back in the chair and said slowly, “I’m afraid that doing so would really affect the relations between the East and the North.”I didn’t like the change in his tone and attitude. I was just a moment away from lunging across the desk and wrapping his crisp tie around his neck for talking to me like that when Ethan opened our mindlink, “Don’t lose your calm, Alpha.”Pretending to be unaffected by the Gamma, I shrugged boringly, “That’ll

Nicholus’s POV: Suddenly, out of nowhere, Darius appeared beside me and yelled over the howling wind, “What are you doing here?” I continued scanning the area wildly while screeching, “Looking for her. What else do you think?” Stepping in front of me, he frowned with confusion, “What…I mean…you really can’t catch her scent, Nicholus?” My eyes widened and my heart picked a beat as I whispered hopefully, “Can you?” Darius eyed me with concern. I knew what was going on in his head but I didn’t have the time for that conversation when my mate was still out there somewhere, lost and in God knows what condition. Good thing that Darius realized that too and turned around, “Come with me. I can catch her scent.” I took a shivering breath and rasped out, “That means we’re close.” He nodded tightly, “We’ll find her, Nicholus.” Like a lost puppy, I followed him as he sprinted through the rough patch in the woods. Ember's POV: It was past midnight and I lay wide awake on the bed, staring up at the ceiling as hundreds of thoughts swirled in my mind. Nicholus was soundly asleep on his stomach beside me with his arm over my belly. My body was tired and my mind was fully exhausted. I needed sleep but it was nowhere to be found. Feeling suffocated and restless, I wrapped my fingers around Nicholus's wrist and gently nudged it away from my abdomen. Quietly getting out of bed, I grabbed the silk nighty off the couch and slipped it over my shoulders. Knotting the ribbon at the front, I padded toward the balcony. Stepping out, I inhaled a rush of fresh air and let it do its work to calm my jittery nerves. Reaching to the back of my mind, I called tiredly, "Aria?" Her voice was soft as she responded, "I'm right here. And I know what you're feeling." Exhaling loudly, I sighed, "At least now I have someone who can understand me on a deeper level." She paused for a minute before saying in a low voice

Ember’s POV:As Nicholus and I entered the dining hall, everyone was already seated around the table for breakfast. Luna, who used to sit right next to Alpha’s head chair, was now sitting on the chair next to that.I had always disliked the change in ranks and positions just because of a change brought by one person. I was now the King’s wife. Rightfully, that place was mine now, but how could I feel good about lowering the rank of Luna who had been sitting there for decades? Soon, she'd have to pass down the title of Luna to me. Was that even fair?Stepping forward, Nicholus pulled out the chair for me to sit. Mumbling good morning to everyone, I settled down. Nicholus followed the suit and sat down on his chair.Moving his head toward the maid beside him, Nicholus nodded lightly. All the maids started moving quickly around the table, carrying the trays, and serving us breakfast. There was an awkward silence in the hall, just like it had been for the last two days since the reception

Ember's POV: With wide smiles and twinkling eyes, everyone was staring at the door, waiting for the bride and groom to make their first appearance. But as soon as the doors opened, all the chitter chat turned into loud gasps followed by a pin drop silence. Tightening my fingers around Nicholus's arm, I stepped inside and noticed how every pair of eyes widened with shock as they spotted the Princess of the South beside the King of the North...a very unexpected match indeed. No one in their wildest dreams would have thought that they would ever witness such a day. A heavy lump formed in my throat as I scanned the crowd. So many faces were familiar. The people who had always known me as the daughter of Alexander Valdez and the future queen of the South were now witnessing me as the bride of Nicholus Dicaprio and the shock was clearly evident on their faces. But among the shocked faces, there were some red with anger and betrayal. Those were the unfamiliar ones. The daggers they were t

Ember's POV: Once we climbed down the ladder of ecstasy after cumming so hard, both of us stared at each other and burst out laughing like two maniacs. Rushing to the washroom, we did a quick job to clean ourselves and returned to the room. I giggled at the cute naked ass of Nicholus as he sprinted to the balcony to fetch our clothes. Our movements were quick as we slid into our wedding outfits. While zipping my back, Nicholus informed me, "We need to hurry. I'm continuously receiving mindlinks from Mom and Darius." Grabbing the skirt of my dress, I rushed toward the vanity and redo a bit of the makeup before brushing my hair straight. Nicholus was leaning against the doorframe, staring at me in amusement as I tied the straps of heels around my ankle. Raising my eyebrow, I inquired curiously, "Why are you smiling?" His smile only widened as he blurted out, "I think I'm feeling butterflies." A chuckle spewed out of me at his choice of words, "And why is that?" He took

Ember's POV: Resting my body against Nicholus, I sighed tiredly, "What a hectic day it had been." I couldn't see his face but still heard the mischievous smirk in his voice, "I'll make sure to end it with a nice and relaxing body massage." "And then...?" I trailed off flirtatiously. Planting his hands on my ass cheeks he pulled me forward until his hard dick was poking into my sensitive flesh, "And then I'd make you cum so many times that you'd lose the count of it." He let out an amusing chuckle, "You sleep best when your body is completely drained after a series of multiple orgasms." Shaking my head amusingly, I tilted my head backward and stared up at the night sky. "The moon is at its highest point," I uttered with temptation. Hooking his finger under my chin, Nicholus made me look into his eyes. His eyes searched mine for honesty as he asked me, "Do you still wanna do it after all that happened? Or do you want to take some more time to process everything?" I glanced at t

Ember's POV: After placing one final kiss on his lips, I slid off his lap and earned a disapproving grunt from him. But I stayed rooted to my spot and uttered, "I think we should talk about my mother now." At her mention, he straightened up and contorted his face in a serious expression. Lifting his face, he met my gaze, "I'm ready when you are." I nodded firmly, "Tell me everything about her. I wanna know all that you've been hiding from me." A slight frown appeared between his brows, "First, I wanna make sure that you know I didn't hide anything because of any ill intention. And that I wasn't intending to hide the truth forever. I was merely waiting for the right moment." I stared at him hard and long before relaying the truth, "I still think that you shouldn't have hidden such an important truth about my life. You are my mate, I don't deserve to be betrayed by you." Standing to his full height, he looked at me with worried eyes, "Hey, don't say that." Closing the distance b

Damon ignored Nicholus glaring at him in confusion and went away without a word.Stepping into the room, Nicholus closed the door behind him. At that moment, I felt like a therapist who was about to attend her second patient of the day.Walking deeper into the room, Nicholous pointed his thumb at the door, "Was he crying? His eyes were red."Jerking his neck, he muttered, "He'd always been a crybaby. I knew he'd be using his tears to gain your sympathies.""Nicholus, please, no need to exaggerate," I interrupted her.He rolled his eyes, "You don't know him.""Do you?" I snapped at him, "If you'd really known him then you wouldn't have let him go in the first place."His nostrils flared, "I couldn't really chain him up, could I? He left because of his ego.""And you let him go because of YOUR ego," I blurted out.Saying that, I turned around, and reminded myself to keep my calm. Nicholus was c

Ember’s POV:After Luna left, I started pacing the room while waiting for Nicholus and Damon to arrive. Luna was right, I should keep my anger aside and only listen to my heart as it was the most important decision of my life. I should definitely fight for my happiness. With every passing minute, I was growing restless as more chaotic thoughts jumbled in my head. It was difficult to deal with two brothers at once but I had to do it.My footsteps halted as I heard a loud knock on the door right before it creaked open. I willed my erratically beating heart to calm down as the duo stepped into the doorway. Both of their gazes were zeroed in on me. But instead of going nervous, I lifted my chin and said firmly, “Come in.”They exchanged heated glares while flaring their nostrils before finally stepping inside. Damon slammed the door shut while Nicholus walked all the way to me.Dipping his head, he placed a kiss on my cheek. For the first time ever, it felt wrong because, by the way he lo
