“Huh!”  I gagged as something cold hit my face. I looked down and gasped, finding myself drenched in water.

I lifted my hands to wipe my dripping face and hair, but I couldn’t.  Then I felt my head lolling back as a shadow fell over me.

“Good morning,  princess.”  A rogue woman with buck teeth sneered at me. I knew she was rogue because of her particular smell.

She looked down at me in disdain while holding an empty pail with its rim still dripping with droplets of water. I presumed the contents of which woke me up from a deep sleep.

Warily, I started to sit, propping the heel of my hand on the mossy grass to support my weight.  My hands and feet were cuffed by what appeared to be Wolfsbane - a plant that caused mild to serious harm to wolves like me.

So this is the reason for the lethargic feeling. I thought I was run over by hundreds of wolves.

Speaking of wolves, I remembered mine and called out to her in my mind, but Maya would not answer back, making me worry.

It was uncharacteristic of Maya to be silent in times of danger.  Or maybe, it was the Wolfsbane doing.  I wonder.

“Maya?”  I searched for her in my mind and was greeted with cold silence, causing panic to rise on me. Then I raked my mind, trying to feel her. I sensed more than I felt her.   It was faint, but it was Maya. She must be too weakened by the Wolfsbane.  Wolfsbane is very potent and has the potential to harm or cause death when exposed to it.

“Don’t you just sit there, Alpha’s princess!”  The rogue snarled when she saw my dazed look, breaking me out of my stupor.

“What did you just call me?” In my foggy mind, what she called me made me frown in confusion.

The rogue woman saw my shocked face, contempt registering on her weathered face.  “Alpha’s princess!”  She spat the words out, eyeing me in satisfaction, misinterpreting the sense of panic registered on my face.

I shook my head, denying her claim,  I am no Alpha princess.  A princess is someone treasured and revered by her family and people, and I wasn’t one of those.

The rogue woman hit me before dragging me to my feet and we started walking.

“Don’t think you can fool old Beth, missy. Beth has a sharp nose and could smell you a mile back.  Your stink gives you away, you filthy daughter of a criminal!”

My breath hitched.  “What are you talking about?” I asked, ignoring the pain burning my cheeks.

Clearly, I do not have any clue as to what she was talking about.  Aside from the burning cheeks, my head feels like it's been split in half due to a massive headache.  I could not find my balance and the way she manhandled me made me trip a lot of times on rocks or roots jutting out from the brown earth.

“Stop acting dumb.  I know who you are!  You are the daughter of Alpha Leo and his Luna wife. I could smell their blood on you.  Your pure Alpha descent blood was so strong, anybody with a brain on his head could spot you.”

“No.  You must be mistaken. I am….” I tried to correct her, but was halted when she shouted in my face.

“Quiet! Don’t try to deny it.  You have murderer’s blood in your filthy veins like your d*ck head father.”

My head felt heavy, as it throbbed with pain, and her voice - shrill and hoarse - was not helping as she yapped about my father being a murderer.

She saw my blanched face and smirked.

“That’s right. Your Alpha father is a criminal.  He is a murderer who brutally killed in his own hands our Alpha’s father and his people.  Or maybe, your father kept this sordid secret from you. Didn’t want to have his image tarnished in the eyes of his beloved daughter, eh?” Her words dripped with sarcasm as she piled me with accusations against my father.

“Don’t you worry, miss,  your father can redeem himself in your eyes because you will be our bargaining chip.  If your father will surrender, you and the rest of your family will be spared from death.  He does not have much choice.  Our group under Alpha Alaric had already demolished half of your territory and killed your people.  But your father won’t give up.  He ruthlessly kept his ground fighting us, continuing the bloodshed.  He won’t stop until every member of your pack is dead. ”

She talked one on and on, making it hard for me to follow her words. But one thing registered in my still addled brain and that is that my father’s pack had been destroyed.

My heart constricted as I grieved about the loss of lives.  I could not see anyone doing massive damage to the place I once called home.

“You will be our secret weapon against your own father.”

At last, it dawned on me.  She had mistaken me for my sister,  Lyla who had been the apple in our father’s eyes.

She thought I was the doted daughter of our Alpha.

I wanted to laugh out loud.  What trick of fate is this? What kind of twisted, convoluted coincidence led me to this situation?

Me? The precious daughter of the Alpha? I bit back the snarky retort that bubbled in my head.  If only she knew who she was speaking to, she would realize what a waste it was to use me.

Then, we reached the center of the pack territory. Even from a distance, I could smell the stinky smell of death.  Tension filled the air.

From where I stand, I could glean out the outline of the pack house as it stood alone amidst tall trees. How ironic that it lost its proud look in the midst of this chaos.

Then, I spotted Alpha Leo and his best warriors,  facing off against another group of wolves. I could smell their stink, making no mistake about their identity. They are Rogues.  But alas!  I could not see their faces because their heads were covered in masks. Their lithe and muscular bodies were poised for attack.

They were in a stand-off. My Alpha father and his warriors were in a defensive position, but the Rogues seemed to outweigh them in strength.  The contrast between my father and his opponent is evident in their massive builds.  While Alpha Leo looked old, frail, and weak, the Alpha rogue was young, strong, and powerful.

There was a tense pause in the air as they looked in our direction.

I saw the attacking rogues pulling back when their leader looked at me, his eyes taking in my appearance.  It was then that I was reminded of my soaking dress and wet hair.  The look I got from the males was purely animalistic. I crossed my knees together, crossed my arms over my front to cover what needed to be covered.

The lewd stares made me feel naked and vulnerable.

Then, there was a movement in the corner of my eyes as Boris, the newly-appointed beta of our pack, the mate who rejected me stood next to my father.  Our eyes locked and I knew the exact moment he spotted me.   He moved his feet forward in my direction, but the Alpha Rogue growled.  Boris stopped and maintained his position. His eyes were trained on me, watching our approach.

The Rogue Alpha beckoned the woman who brought me here, Beth. With a simple flick of his hand, Beth pushed me forward, I stumbled and almost fell to the ground.

By then, I was slowly regaining strength and was able to dig my feet in the dirt to keep my balance.

“Nice save.” The Rogue Alpha whom Beth referred to earlier as the son of the late Alpha my father killed, commented when he saw my reflexive action. Then his jaw hardened, eyes went steel blue as he shifted his gaze from me to address Alpha Leo.

“Surrender, or we will kill her!”

Alpha Leo threw his head back and laughed uproariously.  “Can’t you find another reason to threaten me with?” He spat out in sarcasm.

Alpha Leo’s reaction confused his opponent.

“Why?” The Alpha Rouge peered at me, then at my father.

“Is she not your daughter, Alpha Leo?”  He taunted, then his voice hardened.  “She will be the collateral damage for all your sins, Alpha!” Alpla Rogue’s eyes turned obsidian in anger as he bargained with my father.

Alpha Leo’s gaze swept dispassionately on me while I quaked in fear, realizing belatedly why they brought me back here.

I looked at his eyes, reflecting an absence of any recognition or emotion like he didn’t know me.

“You can kill her.”  He declared carelessly.

I gulped to hold down the start of a sob. Last night, I escaped death from our Luna’s hand by dying another kind of death when Boris rejected me.

While I was able to escape two deaths last night, I don’t think I will be able to manage to escape this time.

The Alpha Rogue had my father’s consent to kill me.

I closed my eyes as bitterness coursed through me at my father’s cruelty.

What have I done to deserve this? What kind of father would want his own child dead?  I opened my mouth to diss my own father but Alpha Leo opened the mind link and communicated with me, halting me from whatever I wanted to say.

“Don’t tell them who you are.  Conceal your identity or everyone in this pack will be left for dead.”  He commanded.

Then, another voice spoke in my head.  Boris!

“Erin, don’t tell them who you are or you will endanger yourself.”  He talked sweetly like he cared about me.  His tone and his words were far different from those he uttered last night when he rejected me.

The concern in his voice was my undoing.  Absent-mindedly, I nod my head once in his direction to let him know that I heard him and would keep mum about me being Alpha Leo’s daughter and member of the pack.

Then a loud shout penetrated my Boris-fogged brain, startling me from my trance as the Alpha Rogue shouted at my father’s face!

“You’re lying.  She is your daughter.”

“No.  She’s a nobody. She’s not even a member of my pack.” Alpha Leo insisted.

His other warriors one by one nodded their agreement, including Boris.

Then to my horror, Alpha Leo quietly drew out his bow and made a shot directly into my heart.

I was frozen on the spot, eyes wide in disbelief. My father is going to kill me!

Shutting my eyes and praying to the goddess for my soul, I waited for the tip of the arrow to pierce my chest, but another shocking thing happened.

I heard a collective gasp which made me curious to open my eyes. And when I did, I almost slumped to the ground in relief.  The arrow aimed was in possession of the Alpha Rogue’s palm, sparing me from death.

I looked at the arrow trapped in the Alpha Rogue’s hand in disbelief before relief slowly washed over me. I staggered, my knees buckling with the sudden realization that I was so close to death moments ago. The man’s free hand held the sleeves of my dress to support me while on his other hand, he held the arrow’s shaft between his palm. I looked at him under my lashes and saw him sneer like he was expecting no less than this bold, unmerciless move from my father. Then, with a casual air, he threw the arrow back to my father. I watched in awe as the arrow took a spin, traveling in shocking speed until it hit its target, and landed on Gamma Alexander’s shoulder. He could have hit my father’s heart if Gamma Alexander did not interfere. Alpha Leo could have died. My breathing stopped as I watched Gamma Alexander pull the arrow from his shoulder and blood gushed out. A wave of nausea hit me as my eyes watered in a mixture of relief and fear. While I do not want to die, I

I shut my eyes involuntarily, my heart thuds painfully in my chest as I wait for the Alpha Rogue’s paw to slash into Boris’ skin. He was still after all, my mate. And though he rejected me, I know it would not be so easy for the feeling to go away. Love can not go away in just a blink of an eye. We broke up, but it does not mean I love him no more. In bated breath, I waited for the kill. “Not so fast.” I heard my father’s thundering voice and before I could blink Alpha Leo and his warriors attacked the Alpha Rogue simultaneously. All hell breaks loose as Alpha Leo lunges at the Alpha Rogue, shifting in mid-air. His warriors did the same, abandoning human form and transforming into their wolves. It was a magnificent sight as tall, muscular men shed their human skin, exchanging it to fur to become wolves. They snarled in anger, attacking the Alpha Rogue one after the other. But the Alpha Rogue gave them a good fight, deflecting every attack delivered to him. His wolf j

I looked at him, my savior with eyes wide in shock and my heart beating fast while I tried to wrap my head around this impossibility. My nostrils flare as I take in more of the sweet-smelling odor. Boris is my mate. That I knew of. So what was the moon goddess doing here? Is this some kind of a joke? A freaking twist of fate? I shook my head when Boris shouted, scooting away from the menacing figure of the Rogue Alpha. “Don’t come near me,” Boris shouted. The Rogue Alpha looked at him disgustingly, scoffing at the look he saw in Boris' eyes. The almighty Boris had turned from one big-brawny guy to a weakling right before my eyes. “Is this what you can do? Plead so that I will spare your life?” The Rogue Alpha sneered, seeing the fear in Boris’ eyes and taking advantage of it in gloating. But his actions did not detract from the menacing aura or the killing intent in his eyes. He stepped toward Boris in slow deliberate steps, his eyes gauging. Boris looked around him,

My hands trembled to the side, and my lips quivered as I choked back a sob. The crowd remained silent in anticipation. I, on the other hand, felt like the air clogged my chest. Seeing the condemnation on their faces, I could not breathe as sweat lined my brow and upper lip. I shot a glance at Alaric. His face showed not one iota of emotion, giving nothing away. My eyes swam in unshed tears on the brink of spilling as I remembered what everyone said. Alpha Leo, brutally killed his father and raped his mother. I could not blame Alaric for letting his anger supersede the mate bond. Just like my mother, who turned out to be my aunt, he was in this for revenge. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. My blood in exchange for his parents' blood. I took a deep shaky breath when Alaric gave out my sentence for being Alpha Leo's daughter, paying for my father's atrocious crimes. “I. I watched Alaric’s retreating form, and my blood boiled. Since I am made aware of our bond, I am sure that he was quite aware, too, of who I am. But why is he not claiming me? Does it have anything to do with what Boris told him? That I am a liability? What about when he proposed the idea to mate with him and produce babies with him? Was it just a ploy to get a rise out of my father?I looked at him as his figure got smaller as the distance between us widened, still trying to wrap my head around his recent decision to auction me off. I stepped forward, intending to follow him, but Beth snagged my hand to tightly grip my wrist, her action catching me by surprise. I snatched my hand back, but she was way more powerful. The effect of Wolfsbane is slowly wearing off. But it still rendered me without my usual strength. I could not fight her even if I tried. In frustration, I looked at Beth with barely-held fury in my eyes. Beth seemed to delight at my expression, showing her

“Don’t test my patience, slave!” He snarled in disgust. I know what he was doing. Intimidation works quite well with the timid, but not for someone like me who had been suppressed all her life. I already lost so much and I do not intend to lose again. “What did you just call me?” Alaric smiled, his expression one of triumph. “You are a slave. You are no longer a princess in your father’s pack. He let you go and did not try to rescue you. Your Alpha father wanted you dead!” He shouted almost smugly. He said, aggravating the hatred in me. “I am not your or anyone’s slave.” I snarled back. Tension filled my body as I poised for an attack. “You are the lowest in my pack. A slave to the rogues. And in just a few hours, a rogue male will make you his slave to do anything to your body that you can not do anything about. A slave is the most decent thing I can think of to call someone like you.” His words were meant to challenge me. My nostrils flared. As he ticke

Alaric’s eyes looked bloodshot and his expression grim. Even so, my eyes lapped at him like a man in drought. I devoured the sight of him while he returned my stare. I was only made conscious that we are making a spectacle when Beth asked, her interest piqued. “What is wrong?” “Why did he stop?” Rose made a follow-up question. I heard them, but I could not make my eyes go away. Alaric seemed to share my feelings because he, too, did not bother to look away. He held my stare, uncaring of the curious stares from around us. The pressure of his stare had my stomach swirling in awareness, reminding me about the agony he put me through last night, and my mouth tightened in resentment. “Oh good, Beta Ben is here.” A girl gushed, breaking our eye contact. From the corner of my eye, I looked at Alaric’s Beta and was stunned to see how ripped he was as well, standing the same height and same build as his Alpha. But that is where their similarity goes. Erin’s POV How do you recover from the death of a loved one? One who had been an integral part of you and who had greatly influenced what you had become? How do you cope with the loss, at the gaping hole they left in your heart? They say that for werewolves, losing a mate means eventual death. I never fully understood it until now. I scattered the ashes in the air and saw specks mingled with the wind. They danced together, intertwined like some old lovers until that far beyond. While I watched them go, I murmured in the air, hoping it would reach the ears of my loved one. “Luna, it is time to go.” I turned around and met Boris’ shadowed face. We nodded at each other before my gaze locked with my mate. We do not need any words between us. One look from him is all it takes to calm the storm within me. “I love you.” He mouthed. His words were enough to puncture the dam in my eyes and it burst. In quick strides, Alaric reached my side. He wrapped my trembling body in his arms as

Alaric’s POVThrough the help of Fabian Gray, we unbound the spell cast on Lyla. A cloud of smoke appeared, and out came Lyla, who at first looked disoriented upon seeing herself surrounded by too many people. We were inside the courtroom. Alpha Douglas, as head of the council, was presiding over Lyla's trial. There was a general look of amazement, and everyone seemed to hold their breath when Fabian Gray started reversing his spell. Fabian's movements were precise and meticulous. It was no wonder he was the best of his kind and the undisputed Warlock chief. My gaze scanned the whole room until it landed at the back of the courtroom where Luna Bella and Erin were seated. Luna Bella insisted on witnessing the trial. Erin came in support of her mother. I guess it would be hard to tear Luna Bella at bay. Lyla is her daughter, too. After Fabian broke and retracted the spell, Lyla appeared before us in her human form. She looked around, surprised to see the Alphas surrounding her.

Alaric’s POVI shouldn’t have walked away from her. I shouldn't have let my emotions get out of hand. It was just that the mere mention of my mother reminded me so much about Alpha Leo’s crimes against my family. Compounded by her sister’s crimes and her mother’s demands, I could not hold back my temper and snapped at her. I looked back in remorse to where I last saw her, but Erin was already gone. She has probably gone inside the house. Taking my frustrations out on her is uncalled for. Alpha Leo and Lyla's actions are their own. Erin has nothing to do with it. Having the same family name does not make one responsible for the other member's mistakes.Shedding off my human form, I started galloping into the forest. I let the speed and the wind clear my head as I put distance between me and my mate. I stopped at the lake Erin, and I frequented panting. For a while, I looked at my reflection in the water. Dark, guilty eyes stared back at me. I snarled my frustratation. I loo

The following morning saw us atop the highest mountain lining the border of Red Stone and Black Water territory. Luna Bella chose this spot specifically. “I want to have a vantage view of our territory.” She explained when she requested that we bring her to this place. We arrived here before dawn. Now, the skies that were previously covered in darkness slowly lighten up as the first light appears. The sun is breaking. I watched Luna Bella contemplating in silence. Her shoulders hunched like she carried the weight of the world on them. “Even in death, your father cheated me.” I knew what she meant. Alpha Leo died ahead of her, thus, leaving her behind. Sometimes, I wonder, who hurts more: the one who left or the one left behind?Alaric and I stood a little distance from my mother to give a quiet moment with her thoughts. The next few days are hectic. Mother and I went back to the Red Stone Pack to meet with Gamma Alexander to discuss pack affairs and to keep tabs on what has happened since Lyla and Gavyn took the reign of the Alphaship. Upon Gavyn’s death, the remaining pack officials elected Gamma Alexander to handle its affairs temporarily. With my mother sick, Lyla missing, and me in the hospital, the position of Alpha was left vacant.“Here are the books detailing the income and the expenses these past months.” Gamma Alexander showed us an updated version of Red Stone's cash position. In addition, he gave us a rundown of everything that has happened since Alpha Leo's death. Mother had no concern over that. She was impatient to know one thing, and so did I. “Where are Alpha Leo’s ashes? I did not give him my proper respects.” Mother’s voice almost broke in the end. She was trying to hold back her tears, and I knew she had never mourned his death yet. Or maybe, that is our way of coping. Gri

“Erin Acklen…” The sound of someone calling my name woke me up.Still cloaked in a sleepy daze, I pried open my eyes only to shut them close immediately when bright lights glared at me. “It hurts,” I complained to the voice, ignoring whoever it was calling me and letting sleep take over, only to be roused, yet again, by that same mysterious voice to wake up. Again, I ignored it, but it persisted. It kept badgering me until I was too irritated by the constant harping. Super annoyed with whoever has the gall to disturb my sleep, I opened my eyes and angrily bolted out of bed. Even with my disorganized thoughts, I was surprised to find out I was not inside our room back in Black Water Pack but somewhere else.Chin jutted forward, I scanned the area around me before my head tilted down. It was then that I realized I was in the middle of what looked like a forest, and the bed from which I rose earlier was a bed of moss-green grass. It felt ticklish under my bare feet. “Where am I?

It took Alaric not more than fifteen minutes to process my discharge slip and pay my hospital bills. Then, Alaric returned to tell me we were ready to go. I was excited to leave. In the past weeks, I was not allowed to leave the confines of this hospital, nor was I allowed to walk outside. Alaric posted bodyguards everywhere I turned, annoying me no end. It was a refreshing change to see the bodyguards’ unmissed presence. “Let’s go?” He asked, eyes drifting to the bag beside me on the sofa. In his absence, I collected all my stuff lying around to deposit them inside a travel bag I saw on the bottom of the cabinet.I stood and took the bag, but he knocked my hand off. “Just lead the way, ma’am.” He said playfully, making me laugh so hard. “Luna.” Ben struggled to get up from his hospital bed. I saw the pride and respect reflected in his eyes when he saw me. How do I know it was him? I don’t know. I just do. When I started to take in Alaric’s word and accepted the idea that I am his Luna, things began to clear in my head. My memory still eluded me, but maybe it was the acceptance that made me see things in perspective. My head turned to the side to see the other bed’s occupant. He was still asleep, but from what I gathered earlier, it was safe to presume he was Blake, the pack’s gamma. Both Ben and Blake were muscular like their Alpha, and I am quite sure they could hold their own on the battlefield, as good as Alaric. I still don’t remember anything about them, but there was a sense of rightness in seeing them. “Ben.” I drew close to his bed and reached for his hand. It was like crashing back down to earth after a spine-tingling explosive kiss.“W-what did you do that for?” I stammered when Alpha Alaric released my lips, only to venture south and nuzzle my neck. He darted out his tongue, sending glorious tingles of sensation that spread out all over my body. What is happening to me? Desire shoots up to every corner of my being. Wide-eyed, I stared at him. “This can not be!” I pushed him hard, but he would not budge. He pressed his body against mine, effectively trapping me to the wall. And his stare. Gosh! Why does it make me weak? “Do you understand what I was trying to tell you?” His muffled voice carried its weight to my ears, causing me to shiver involuntarily at the promise in them. I hate it! I hate how my body melted so naturally in his arms. “Stop!” I cried before I pressed both palms to his chest and shoved him off of me. I app
