Katherine was in shock. It had been over twelve hours since Giselle had informed Katherine that her parents had agreed to allow Katherine to date Tyler. When Katherine had agreed to this whole thing, she had been absolutely certain that her parents would laugh at the very idea of it but then again, not twenty-four hours ago, Katherine had known with absolute certainty that there simply was no such thing as vampires.
Now, once again, Katherine was left wondering what she knew anymore. She felt angry, confused, and like her world was falling apart. What was next? Her parents told her she was adopted? Wouldn't that just be peachy...
Apparently, Giselle had spoken with the Coven the night before, informing them that Katherine was, to her great annoyance, not to be left alone, even for a moment Sofia had even kept watch over Katherine the night before while she slept and would continue to do so until Giselle believed Katherine out of danger.
It was driving Katherine
The chill autumn wind ruffled the man's wild black hair and pulled at his long, brown leather trench coat. The tall, handsome man didn't seem to notice the wind, nor anything else for that matter. Instead, his forest-green eyes were focused on a young woman sitting at a desk by a second-story window in the brick building of Northview High. Her black-crimson hair was pulled back into a messy bun with two pencils sticking out of it like hair chopsticks. She seemed bored and inattentive, her gaze wandering this way and that. The man closed his eyes, focusing his energy on the young woman. He opened his eyes again, only this time they were different... They were opalescent white. Katherine sat in Government, her last class of the day. She had forgiven Tyler by this time and was rather enjoying the fact that no one, not even the teachers would interfere with her. Of course, that didn't really help with how absolutely boring she found Government.
KATHERINE'S POVI walked home at a leisurely pace. It would be a long time before I got a chance to be alone again, and I already knew that I was going to get hell for pulling this stunt as it was, so I might as well enjoy it.I couldn't stop thinking about the man from my nightmares and how he now seemed to be invading my waking life as well. I had been having dreams of his voice for as long as I could remember but it had only been once I moved here that a face came with the voice.I wished that I could believe myself to be insane or over-stressed as then I could just get the help I needed, but I knew that I wasn't, it was just a wishful thinking. After everything that had happened over the last few days, I had learned that just because I couldn't explain something didn't mean that it wasn't real, this place is surely different from the other one's, creatures that look only good in books. I knew I would have to tell Giselle and the others, but I shrank from the
TYLER'S POV“What the hell were you thinking?" I shouted, my panic turning to anger. "I knew I should never have left her with you!"I ran out the door, Giselle and Sofia close behind.I pushed my way past the students and teachers littering the halls, too concerned about Katherine to worry about manners. If anything happens to her I'll never forgive myself...KATHERINE'S POVMy heart was pounding in my chest as the pieces began to fit together. Werewolf, I thought. But why have I been dreaming about him since before I can remember?Though it made me take a few steps back in fear, I wasn't surprised when the wolf stood on its hind legs and morphed gracefully into the man from my hellish nightmares. His eyes faded and for the first time, I saw that his eyes were naturally forest green. He looked at me with emotion that I couldn't identify. He was no longer covered in the vampire's blood and he wore a long brown tren
AUTHOR'S POVKatherine walked toward Giselle. She came to a stop a few feet before Giselle."Katherine? Are you alright?" Giselle asked, trying to distract her.It was obvious to anyone who knew the truth about Katherine's past that Giselle knew she'd spoken with Convel.Giselle knew she was in for it.Katherine laughed bitterly."Oh, I'm just peachy," Katherine said, her voice so upbeat and acidic at the same time that most everyone flinched. "You'll never guess who I met today, Giselle.""Katherine, I can-""What? Explain? Alright, Giselle. Go ahead and explain to me why you lied to me when you knew the truth about who I really was. Explain to me why you didn't tell me that you're my mother,"Katherine heard the gasps behind her and she could sense multiple pairs of eyes darting between Giselle and herself, but she couldn't have cared less at the moment. She could also sense the others scenting Convel's former presence
Katherine and the coven had seated themselves at the kitchen table and they waited for Giselle to begin her tale. Katherine couldn't help the feeling of déjà vu that passed over her - this was disturbingly like when Giselle explained the Clans' history to Katherine, only this time, Katherine wasn't alone in her ignorance. They'd all been lied to and possibly even been put in danger by Giselle's behaviour, and they deserved an explanation.Katherine only hoped that they realized that this was exactly how she had felt when she found out about all of them: betrayed.Tension and anticipation hung heavily in the air, so thick it was suffocatingGiselle took the last seat in between Tyler and Katherine before beginning."I had hoped that I would have more time to prepare all of you," Giselle said sadly. "I had thought that once everyone saw Katherine 's powers begin to manifest, that thing would be into place for you. As it is, I suppose that my e
AUTHOR'S POVTyler smirked to himself, leaning against a wall to enjoy the show"That dress isn't me, Sofia. It's you, and just for your information, I'm not a Barbie doll. I can, in fact, dress myself," came Katherine's muffled voice from inside the bathroom."I hate to break it to you, Katherine, but they won't even let you in the door if you dress the way you usually do. You need fashion therapy. That's why you have us," Tracy said, examining her perfectly manicured nails for flaws."You can borrow my best-spiked choker if you want, Katherine," Anne piped up."And I have a beaded American-Indian skirt that you would look lovely in," Moonbeam offered in a soft, far-away voice.Tracy and Sofia looked at the other two girls for a moment before exchanging a 'look'."Okay, what I meant was..." Tracy said. "... that's why you have me and Sofia. Moonbeam and Anne are just here for moral support."Anne glared at Tracy and Moonbeam j
Tyler paced the shining hardwood floor of the Library impatiently. The girls had dragged Katherine to Hampshire, a town nearly an hour outside of Bramshott apparently it was the only decent place to get clothes in the surrounding area, because heaven knew that Bramshott didn't carry anything but the preppie stuff everyone seemed to be wearing there and they'd been up in Sofia's room primping' Katherine ever since.Tyler had to admit to himself that he was nervous. Things had been progressing between him and Katherine, though he highly doubted that she actually knew it. Her mind didn't work the same way that other girls' did. She didn't think in terms of dating and clothes and boys. She thought in terms of right and wrong, good and bad, honorable and dishonorable, hardworking and lazy, humble and prideful... The list went on and on in that fashion. She was the most moral person that he'd ever met without ever touching on religion. She believed in God, but she didn't hol
I can't breathe. I'm going to pass out any second now and fall down those stairs, knocking every one of them on the way down like a bowling ball making a strike. Everyone is going to laugh at me and then I'll have proved my other Parents right. I'll have proven myself worthless...I laughed nervously and gave the slightest of waves at the massive crowd below. As if I wasn't nervous enough before…“Hi?” I said nervously. This seemed to rouse the shocked mob into loud cheers, wolf whistles, and obscene comments being thrown in Katherine's direction. Katherine blushed a deep Rose color, only adding to her newfound beauty making the crowd grow a little wilder. It was with the greatest satisfaction that when she caught sight of Tyler that he was the only one still silent, and looking up at her as though in a trance.Their eyes met for what seemed an eternity before Katherine took an almost involuntary step towards him. He seeme
The hothouse air was warm and comfortable to Katherine as she lay atop Tyler who was stretched out on the large stone bench that Tyler had placed there after he had first encountered her there. Her cheek rested against his chest as his left arm encircled her waist possessively. His other hand was occupied with stroking her hair, which he insisted remained loose as it was so much easier to run his fingers through it that way. They had been that way for hours but it seemed only moments to Katherine.“Katherine?" Tyler said tentatively."Hmm?" Katherine asked lazily. When he took too long in answering. Katherine opened her eyes and lifted her head to look at him resting her chin on her interwoven fingers.“What's wrong?" she asked softly. "Am I too heavy?"Concerned that she was crushing him, she began to move off of him."No!" Tyler said, crushing her back to his chest as though the thought of her leaving him was unbearable.
Katherine stood there for what seemed a lifetime, staring at the place where Convel had just stood. She forced herself to choke back sob after sob, holding her hand to her mouth, never letting a Sound of it escape her lips lest Convel hear it and come back. Katherine didn't know if she had the strength to tell him no again with the way she was feeling. But she had burned that bridge and it had to stay burned if she was ever going to have a normal life, or at least some semblance of one.Once Katherine had overcome her feelings and felt more in control, she forced herself to wipe the tears from her eyes and walk back toward shore. The fog wasn't quite as bad as it had been and seemed to be dissipating again, coming and going as though it couldn't make up its mind, allowing Katherine a clear view of where she had left her boat. The merman opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted when they both heard the distinct Sound of a motorboat speeding through the
Katherine had no idea how she was going to take on thirteen well-trained lycanthropes, powers or no powers, but she knew she didn't have much of a choice.Katherine took several deep breaths, preparing for the next attack. The lycanthropes began transforming right and left, and the next attack came from behind, knocking Katherine to the ground.Oh God, no. No, it can't end like this, Katherine thought as she struggled to get the wolf off of her but more joined it, holding her down and soon Katherine had seven or eight lycanthropes' paws on her back, pushing her down. She felt like she couldn't breathe, and her breaths were forced and panicked, tears of fear forming in her eyes."Get off... of... MEP" Katherine said, screaming the last word in desperate hysteria.Suddenly Katherine felt the back of her shirt rip, forced open from the inside, and then the wolves that had been holding her down were flying off of her in all directions.Katherine
"I had hoped that we could share my vision and lead our race into a brighter future... together," he said darkly."A brighter future?" Katherine said in disbelief, anger overriding the warning her instincts were telling her.Get out of there, Katherine, the warning seemed to say. Get out of there now.."What brighter future? The one where you enslave all of mankind? You mean that future? Have you never even heard of The Ten Commandments? The movie where God sends Moses to free al the slaves because slavery is - you know-bad?""Katherinet, ye are young -far too young to understand all that is about to take place. I hope that one day we will stand side by side as father and daughter, fightin' for the future of our kind. But know that what I do now, I do for yer sake as much as for the sake of all our kind" Convel said, his voice heavy with regret."And what exactly is it that you're going to do ?" Katherine asked, folding her arms and glaring at Conv
The oars parted the water, forming small waves as Katherine rowed the small boat toward the island. Katherine had borrowed the rowboat from a closed boat rental business on the docks of Merytonburg. Not knowing how to drive a motorboat, Katherine had figured that the small wooden craft would have to suffice. She had thought that the work of the constant rowing would be tiring but surprisingly she found it easy, and she soon found herself within view of the lighthouse's brightly shining beacon.Somehow, Katherine knew that Convel had ordered it just for her, to make him easier to find. The closer each row brought Katherine to the island, the more she wondered if she was doing the right thing. Convel had already proven himself dangerous to her, even if only indirectly. Some part of her tried to hold onto the belief that it hadn't been on his order that those lycanthropes had invaded her home, yet the fact that he merely laughed at her when she asked him about it didn't b
Tyler quickly strode to the door leading to the hallway, nearly tearing it open in his rush to get out. Once in the hallway he Flitted to Katherine's door, and without even bothering to knock he opened it.Her bed was empty and still made even if a bit messy as though she had slept on top of the covers rather than under them.A laptop Tyler had seen her using before laid open on the messy coverlet. Tyler quickly exited the room, storming down the halls as he shouted at the top of his lungs."GISELLE!!!The coven started Flitting out into the hallway, most yawning tiredly with murmured questions of what was going on.Finally, after what seemed ages Giselle appeared in her white silk robe, hair sticking out wildly and a bemused expression playing across her half-awake features."Tyler, what in the world-""She's gone, Giselle. Katherine is gone," Tyler blurted out in an unusually panicked manner. "she took my keys, Giselle."Tyle
As quietly and quickly as possible, Katherine opened her door, peeking out into the hallway to make sure no one was up yet, and crept over to Tyler's door. She put her ear to it and could hear the distinct sound of snoring inside. Katherine's lips curled into an amused smile.I am definitely using that as blackmail material later..Slowly, careful to be as noiseless as possible, Katherine turned the handle to Tyler's door and tiptoed inside, closing the door behind her. Tyler was laying on his back, one arm across his chest, the other stretched above his head.He looked so beautiful with strands of black hair falling into his eyes.As though drawn by a magnet. Katherine stepped toward him. Another step... another... a fourth. And then she was beside him, staring at his peaceful face, her breaths coming short and ragged. He could wake up any second. You're crazy. Just grab the keys and go already. You've lost your mind. Katherine leaned down. This i
Fog surrounded Katherine as her feet sunk into the usual grittiness of the sand with each step she took.Katherine walked toward the bright flashing light that she now knew was a lighthouse."Father?" she called."Ye have been trying to contact me, lass? What did you need, me bonnie Bellet? Are ye in some kind of trouble?"Convel stepped out of the fog., his pace quickened by his obvious concern for her."I'm fine,"Katherine said stiffly. Her tone stopped him in his tracks a few feet away from her."What's wrong then? Have I done something to upset ye?"Katherine took a deep calming breath, inhaling the sea air, wet from the waves crashing upon the shore."You tell me. Why did you send two lycanthropes to my parents' house last night?"To Katherine's surprise, Convel's lips stretched out into a charming smile. He looked quite handsome at that moment and Katherine could see exactly why Giselle had fallen for him.
Katherine had been down to the Basement several times after Giselle had told her about the Clans, mostly so that Study could eagerly show off all of his very advanced computer equipment. Katherine could easily say that Study was the younger brother she never had and that she adored him as much as she would have if he had been her younger brother. He was always very open and honest in his own shy way so that Katherine had always felt that she could ask him anything.Which was why Katherine was walking down the halls as noiselessly as she could, making her way to the Basement. She had felt rather odd about asking the others about their powers and what vampire, werewolf and merpeople myths were actual reality. It would seem rude to ask
