Emma’s POV

This news about search warrant baffled me: Melissa is a well known attorney, she must have pulled some strings.

I have to be professional and give her the information.

Afterwards, I saw her doe eyes turn cloudy; she’s obviously irate and frustrated by that.

I have to do something today… I have a feeling that this case is a huge conspiracy, moreover a possible evidence have been collected from her apartment.

“… you will have to stay with us for the next forty-eight hours…” I said to her and with that I left to execute my plan.

Outside the interrogation room, I saw Melissa talking with other officers and the Captain.

She said a lot of things about Kate, though they were not related to the case she was making her out to be a “total whore”.

“Hello, Vin can you doe a favor?”, “What’s it man?” He asked.

“Please I want the samples to be analyzed by Lynn,” I pleaded. “Okay man,” he replied at the other end of the call.

Lynn is the most experienced forensic scientist in our station I am sure she would do a good work.

Kayla’s POV

Emma was pretty much shaken and I know it. He wants to get Kate out of the station as soon as possible.

Therefore, as a good friend am going to help my best friend with this task. Maybe, just maybe Kate might be the one to tame Emma.

The flowers that was brought right at the station, means a lot: “who would dare mess with my division? Rose flowers?” I asked.

The courier service man said he was paid to specially deliver the flowers to miss Kate.

Emma was restless, I could see jealousy crowding his face.

Emma’s POV

“What do you mean by specially delivered? Who gave you those?” I was really frustrated by the whole incident.

“This case is much more than a missing person’s case,” I shuddered at the thought.

Kayla and I entered the interrogation room, I introduced Kayla to her.

Kayla didn’t hesitate to give her a piece of her thoughts.

I on the other hand was emotionally involved, “even if you have another boyfriend…” I felt embarrassed when I realized what I just said.

I really have to get out of here before I commit another blunder. “It is getting late” I said. “Let’s continue tomorrow.”

With that I left with Kayla and dropped her off to meet Eddie.

Kayla’s POV

“Am hanging out with Eddie, care to join us?” I asked Emma, I knew he wouldn’t.

However, I wanted to gamble on the chances. “Am really tired today Kayla, next time” he said and zoomed off.

Drive safely I said in my heart, “good night hottie” I shouted at the already distant car.

Emma’s POV

I decided to visit my parents: Mr and Mrs Stewart.

You may not know but my parents died when I was two years, the Stewarts adopted and raised me as their own.

Later at my request they had my little brother, Stanley.

Stanley looks just like me maybe more handsome, we are the same height, in the neighborhood they usually call us the twin trouble.

When I make trouble, Stanley would say he did it, when he makes trouble I’ll also do the same.

We are inseparable, before I forget we are still neighbors in our apartments.

The only thing is that he has one girlfriend Emily, while I have had several.

I really want to meet with my parents, I needed the love and courage. On getting there, I found Stanley’s car parked outside.

He definitely came around I said, thank God my drinking buddy is around.

Mrs Stewart’s POV

Seeing Emma this late at night, I know he was passing through a lot.

“Good evening my darling” I responded to his greetings. “You don’t look too good, hectic day?” I continued.

He just nodded and hugged me. I patted him on the back, “it is alright son.”

“Stanley is around with Emily” I said to lighten the mood.

“Yeah I saw his car, where is he?” He asked and continue going in the direction of my hands calling “bro! bro!...”

“This boys they love each other a lot” I said with a smile… am a proud mother.

Stanley’s POV

I was with Emily in the parlour discussing with dad, I heard Emma’s car horn.

My bro is around finally, I haven’t seen him in a week. Dad and Emily both saw the sparks in my eyes: “Emma is around” they both said.

I rubbed my forehead, everyone knows that my brother is my best buddy.

I was waiting for him after I heard mom, open the door for him but for minutes he was with mom.

“Something is not right,” I thought out aloud. “What is not right?” My dad asked. “Oh nothing” I replied. Then I heard “bro!”

I immediately stood up and hugged my brother, we hugged tightly for more than thirty seconds, Emily and dad were both clapping and laughing: they know our bond

Mr Stewart’s POV

My sons are the best and I know it. I chuckled at the sight of both of them together, we did a good job raising the kids.

They were naughty growing up especially Emma but he is such a sweet heart.

I remembered the day when he came back and demanded for a brother… “dad I want a brother” he said to me and his mom. Ahhh they have really grown up.

“Okay boys, we know you love each other” I said with a proud smile.

“Dad, how are you doing?” he asked. Before I could position myself I was held in a bear hug by Emma.

This boy is really jacked, I thought, “please don’t squeeze the life out of me” I squealed. Everybody started laughing heartily.

Emily’s POV

I have learnt how not to be a third wheel in the Stewart’s family.

They love each other a lot especially the boys and I plan to make the bond even stronger.

I have been dating Stanley for the past five years, Emma have been very supportive and caring.

He would some times joke about beating up Stanley if he breaks up with me.

“Good evening bro,” I greeted Emma, “ohh! there’s my dear sister-in-law” he said with humor and hugged me. We all laughed heartily.

Our sessions of hugging and laughing was interrupted by Mrs Stewart. “ Food is ready” she announced.

After dinner, Stanley kissed me good night and stepped outside with his brother, I know from the solemn look on Emma’s face that they have a lot to talk about.

Emma’s POV

After the meal, I stepped out with my brother Stanley and narrated the whole incident to him.

He was really interested in the story especially the part about the flower. He promised me that he will help any way he can.

Then he asked me, “have you fallen for her?”

Stanley’s POV

I could cut the emotion in my brother’s words with a knife, I wanted to help him with that.

I am looking forward to meeting this lady that he has fallen for. So I asked him whether he has fallen for her, “bro code” he replied.

I knew that moment that he doesn’t want to talk about it.

“Guy, you’re getting more macho we are the same now” he teased with humour.

I have always told him to cut gym time but it seems both of us are now becoming freaks.

Emma’s POV The next morning , I was ecstatic; beaming with joy. “You’re one lucky guy bro,” it was Stanley. “Hey bro, I responded. We chatted briefly before the breakfast and I took off. I can’t wait to get back to office this morning. I have already put a call across to Kayla. We have to hurry before the forty-eight hours elapse. On getting to the office, I quickly exchanged pleasantries with my colleagues and I rushed to meet Kate. I was there for few seconds watching her sleep. “Good morning dear,” I greeted her, I was shocked when she responded: “morning babe.” My reaction was involuntary, I desperately tried to hide my astonished and satisfactory smile. Before I could respond, she definitely made a closure. In that second, I wanted to just feel good about myself. Kayla’s POV Emma called m

TV NEWS “… Bringing you the update on the missing person’s case, the name is Albert Connor-Mckinney; a government agent who went missing on May 6th, here you can see the body already bloated, it has been three days. He was killed and dumped in the incinerator at the redevelopment site down the street… evidence show that he was probably stabbed before he was shot dead. Even after he died, the assailant continued the assault: an overkill; which shows that the murder is a crime of passion and revenge. … People are suggesting that the girlfriend could possibly be an accomplice… as of now, no further information have been verified now, we will keep you updated, June Hall reporting.” Emma’s POV I looked at the devastated Kate, I knew she was going through a tough time; I gotta do something to help. So I decided to leave with Kayla to the crime scene

  • KATE   A sliver of the truth

Emma’s POV I really have to reinvestigate the crime scene, am sure that we might be missing one or two clues. I have put to put a team together to ensure the success of this investigation. I turned it over in mind since that day on May 6th, it is already three days; thank God the scene was sealed off. “Who are my going to add to the team?” I pondered. Then I concluded on adding Lynn and Vin to my team. This case must be resolved, I said with all determination. “The time is 6am,” it’s my alarm clock. I just got up and freshened up for the case. The prosecution have already called Kate to court for aggravated assault and trespassing this can’t be delayed any longer. Melissa will definitely use this opportunity to keep her in jail and bias the mind of the jury in the murder case trial. Vin’s POV Being a detective for several years, I have come across many puzzles, but this case seems to be deeper than what the facts are presenting.

Chris’ POV I am really pissed this morning. What the fuck? This man was not looking where he was going. “Just mind your way” I said in response to his pleading. When I realized he was an officer and asked for my ID the only thing in my mind was run! I laughed as I saw them in hot pursuit with the patrol car, I will show them how we run the streets. Soon I lost their car, I have to quickly report to the boss. Emma’s POV We lost the vehicle, “that guy must be a gangster” I thought out aloud. “He sure is” everyone said in agreement. At least we now know there’s more to the story. Vin’s POV “We have to request for official reinvestigation guys” I said, everyone agreed. I know the sheriff will give us an earful when we back to the station. Kayla’s POV I found out something interesting on the scene: shoe prints about the size of 45-47. The accomplice must be at least 6ft tall. “ Here are torn clothes stained with bloo

Kayla’s POV I can’t let this madness continued. “I am Kayla, a senior detective at Winster county PD ask me your questions?” I said to the reporters to remove their attention from the sheriff. “I received a tip about…” they kept coming at me. I quickly handled the situation, “the tip you received shows that there is a mole, because this is an official sting operation it is not supposed to be public” I answered. “Do you have idea who the mole might be?” they asked. “ I am not at liberty to discuss an ongoing investigation” I said with finality. Emma’s POV As I came to the driveway in the morning, I found protesters everywhere with their posters, “We want a secured Winster county,” “Catch the murderer,” do your work,” “Justice for Albert” among others. I knew that we are in dire situation. I quickly parked an rushed to the station. Vin’s POV I practically stayed up the whole night going through various CCTV footages, I finally got a clue… the car with Chris in it, but the driver was blurred. I quickly went through other footages but it seems they intentionally evaded all CCTV cameras. “Good morning man, any progress?” I was woken up by Emma’s husky greeting… Sheriff Morgan’s POV I didn’t sleep yesterday night, the mayor and the governor took turns in blasting me. This morning, I saw protesters, we will definitely do the press conference to reassure the public of their safety. On getting to the office I saw that Emma and Vin are already there. Emma’s POV

  • KATE   Yes I will

Emma’s POV I put on the radio, the news was already everywhere about Kate’s running for mayorial office. I was pleasantly surprised by her decision even after everything she had been through for years she still came out better. I am very happy for her. On getting to the station, Kayla, Vin and Lynn were very excited and happy for her. It was like I was the one running for office, I felt huge burden on me each time I remember that. The news turned Winster county mayorial candidates upside down; because right now Kate is the most popular person in Winster county. Stanley’s POV The campaign was hectic for me because she made me her campaign manager. We focused on reaching out to the youth in correctional facilities, women empowerment and environmental preservation. Before the election, Kate already has 70% of the polls. I have not had a good sleep since then, but I was very happy. This is one of the things I love doing. Helping Kate is li

  • KATE   Running for mayor

Kate’s POV I was at loss on what to wear. Even though we have dated for long, I rejected his proposal once. Then our relationship became cold. But since I came back to Winster county, my heart has been skipping each time I see him. Finally, I saw the pink gown I have been looking for. It was Emma that bought it for me. It was already 7pm, I dressed up as early as 6:40pm occasionally sweating. Finally, he called me that he has come to pick me up. Melissa was very supportive and excited for me. As I stepped out, I saw him standing near his car dressed in black tuxedo suit. He came forward and took my hands. Emma’s POV I decided to look good today. I even went to the salon to cut my hair and sideburns. I was leaning on my car waiting for her to come out. Finally, she came out. She looks very beautiful in that pink gown. “Where are we going?” she asked. “It is a secret,” I answered. We arrive

  • KATE   Second chance

Kate’s POV I have not seen Chris for three years. He looks healthy and happy. “I am doing great,” I answered. I saw that he has really changed. He was very excited to see me. “When is your parole coming up?” “Few months from now, after which I will do community service for one.” “Where do you want to serve?” I asked out of curiosity. “Youth correctional facility centre,” he answered. After Chris, the next stop for us was Tanner’s. He looked younger than he was before. Maybe it is because of his low cut hair. “Kate, it has been a long time; you look great,” he complimented. I smiled. “How are you doing?” I asked Tanner’s POV Kate was the first person that ever treated me like a human being. It is such a pity that I was a jerk back then. I don’t deserve her. “I am doing great, I have been to therapy. I am healing and working as well.” Kate’s POV I was pleasantly surprised. “That means that

  • KATE   Next mayor

Kate’s POV I was a bit nervous when climbing the podium, but now all my fear seems to have disappeared. The sound of people’s applause was deafening. I smiled, I believe I did well. People were coming up to me for photos and autographs. “What is going on?” I asked myself. I could see Emma among the crowd. He gave me a thumbs up and winked at me. Even though I rejected his proposal one year ago, he has always been there for me. My heart is beginning to open to the idea of marriage. Vin’s POV I and Emily prepared the venue for the dinner. Emily is always meticulous with such things. We booked a restaurant down the alley of Park Avenue. After the anniversary we all moved there. The old gang: Emma, Lynn, Kayla, Kate, Stanley, Dr Amanda, Emily, myself and Eddie who is joining us for the first time. “Welcome back Kate!” we all chorused as she stepped in with Emma. She was still a bit bashful! Emily’s POV

  • KATE   Anniversary

Emma’s POV We chatted with Melissa for a long time. Albert was playing around the house. It is already 3pm, we have to get going for the requiem mass for sheriff Morgan’s anniversary. “Be a good boy and listen to grandma. Mommy have to meet some friends,” she instructed Albert. He nodded and ran off playing with Melissa. As we were exiting the house we could hear him and Melissa playing and laughing. I held Kate tightly with as we entered the car to attend the anniversary. Kate’s POV When we got there, I was really surprised. The whole place was quite different from what it was three years ago. Interesting! As I stepped out of the car, I saw Kayla. She was the first to greet me. The last time I saw her was when they bid me farewell at the airport. “How have you been?” I asked. My eyes immediately went to the flashy ring on her fingers. “Congratulations to you and Eddie!” I could see the bulge that has began to f

Stanley’s POV “What gave you the confidence to defend Chris and Tanner?” I scratched my chin for answers. “ Everyone has the right to be heard. When I heard their stories, it reminded me of the daily struggles of many indigent teenagers.” “Were you pleased with the results?” she asked.I laughed heartily. “Of course. That was one of my most memorable cases ever. It reminded me that once we put hope in people they are bound to reciprocate it with love.” Emma’s POV “How do you feel about being the new Sheriff?” she asked “I feel nervous and excited at the same time.” “What ideals do you want to uphold as the sheriff?” “Security, peace, hope and inclusiveness,” I answered. She asked Kayla, Vin and Lynn different questions from work to their personal lives and what have you. Finally she turned to Kate and asked her, “what is your plan for the future?” We all turned and steadied our eyes on her. “I want to be

  • KATE   Sheriff Morgan's burial

Agent Tom’s POV I wrote to the agency and they gave me a written statement which I submitted to the judges. That was the least I could do for Tanner. As the police were leading him away, he said the three words I have been waiting to hear for the past 19 years: “ I forgive you.” Emma’s POV Today is sheriff Morgan’s burial. We all stood up in our black suit to observe a minute silence for him. All us were sad. But deep down, we are happy that we were able to make Winster county peaceful again. Vin’s POV I was nominated to eulogize the deceased sheriff Morgan. He was like a father figure to me. “For over ten years, he had sleepless nights working night and day to ensure the safety of all in Winster county. I remembered his face each time he remembers his retirement coming up next year June. He would laugh happily and envision the various adventures he will undertake… but we lost him due to inhumanity and despicable

  • KATE   The verdict

Melissa’s POV I have heard what I wanted to hear. I sat still on the chair as they led him back to the cell. Maybe it would have been better, if I didn’t know what happened. I regretted coming to the station. As I was thinking about it, my head became hot. I couldn’t see clearly again. The next time I woke up, I was on my bed. I don’t know how many hours I blanked out. Kate’s POV I chatted with Emma and Kayla for over an hour. We became worried about Melissa. So we went inside, on getting there Vin was already leading Smith away. Melissa collapsed. Emma and Kayla carried to our car. I drove her back. I called her doctor and explained what happened. He came and administered some medications to her. I have been excited the whole evening because tomorrow is Smith’s trial. Many media outlets will be covering the story. Stanley already told me that the judgment is by 10am. I am sure that the whole or at least three-q

Melissa’s POV I initially planned to go alone. But Kate is a welcomed distraction, if not I wouldn’t have obliged. I kept checking my watch, by 9am I left the house. On getting to the station, I have lots of questions in my mind. I saw Kate talking to Emma and Kayla. After sometime, they brought me inside the waiting room. Kate’s POV I explained to Emma that Melissa is not in her right mind. That they should keep watch. So he assigned Vin to oversee the whole incident. I on the other hand joined in Emma and Kayla in the lobby enjoying the early morning summer sun. Smith’s POV I was surprised when I saw Melissa in the waiting room. The way she was looking haggard made me happy. I smiled and sat across her from the table. Her whole facial expressions and the wrinkles on her face gave joy. “How did you meet Max?” she asked me. I didn’t want to answer before, however now that I know I can’t escape, I
