Smith’s POV
Now that everyone in the county have already known my secret, there is no need to hide.
However, I made a decision that, the people who hurt me must all pay for it.
I won’t die alone. Melissa, Charles and Camilla must bear the pain of my revenge.
When I mocked her, there was this kind of fear that was written all over her face.
“You will soon have some company,” I said to her with assurance. “Let me go, you bastard!” was her reply.
“Do you still remember Charles, Camilla, Kennedy and Collete?” I asked her. Her eyes widened with fear. That’s exactly what I like.
“Don’t worry, you’ll be catching up with them very soon,” I said to her and left.
Melissa’s POV
For the first time since I was abducted, I cried. “Why was he getting everybody involved?” I thought.
I kept shouting, but I could only hear the echoes. It was like a boomerang, everything I say comes back right at me.
Mayor’s POV
Emma’s POV After meeting with Stanley and Emily, I bade my parents goodbye. I have to drop Kate off, it was already 8:30am. I quickly drove her back to Melissa’s house. The door was exactly like it was yesterday. Maybe Melissa is not yet back. I could see Kate’s face, she was worried. “If she is not back by afternoon call me?” I said to lighten her mood. I sped to the hospital, we had agreement to meet by 9am. The drive to Winster county hospital was like the fastest drive I have ever had. Many drivers cursed at me as I drove past them, but who cares? When I got there, everyone was there already. Vin’s POV We have put the sheriff in the morgue. We have to prepare for his funeral but that would be after catching that son of a bitch. We have been waiting for some time, Emma is the de facto leader since he even ranks above the sheriff. He will direct us on the next action to take, how to interrogate Chris and the a
Agent Tom’s POV “Now that he has been exposed, I think he will go all out. What we need to do now is to identify what triggered his killing instincts,” I explained. Vin’s POV “Find his trigger?” I asked. I am confused by the whole trigger stuff. Emma’s POV I already had an idea of what the trigger might be. Could it be the death of Kate’s mother? “What would he do with the people that caused the trigger?” I asked to know the best thing to do. Agent Tom’s POV “Now he is like a wounded viper, he would try to take down as many people as possible,” I explained. Emma’s POV My eyes widened due to anxiety. “I think Melissa is in trouble! She had a role to play in the trigger. She has not come home since yesterday. I dismissed it as nothing,” I said. Based on the story my parents told me yesterday, Melissa played an important role in his development of being a killer. But on a second thought, we
Alyssa’s POV I have seen many patients, but I have only seen few that are brave like Kate. She was not afraid to open the memory. After sometime, “ I can’t am scared” she said as I urged her to open that box. That was probably the cause of her injury. Kate’s POV For some reasons, I carefully avoided this particular box of memory. She kept urging me to open it. I was afraid. Later I did. I saw exactly how the accident happened 19 years ago. I was seated at the back chair, a truck ran into us. My parents and I survived. Then the truck driver came out, he walked to my parents and smashed their heads against the car door. Then he took something from them. He was coming for me too, it was then that I saw his face, it was Smith. Then I faintly heard the police siren at a distance, he ran away. I kept hearing Alyssa’s voice as she guided back to consciousness. Alyssa’s POV “That was quick,” I complimented her.
Emma’s POV I was following the whole interrogation from outside the room. Kayla is doing a good work. I checked my watch it was 11:40am. I wanted to call Kate but I decided not to. I will call her after the interrogation is over. So I relaxed and followed the interrogation process. Kayla’s POV “What did he have you do?” I asked. “All sort of illegal stuff and murder. He ordered the assassination of Mary, attempted assassination of Kate and the murder of Albert.” Basically, we have gotten the evidence and statement to put Smith behind bars for the rest of his life. Since the murder of Albert was what broke the Pandora’s box, I wanted to know more about it. “About Albert, what really happened?” I asked. “I don’t really know, the boss was not interested in killing Albert. However he discovered the boss’s secret so he had to kill him,” he answered. Emma’s POV When I remembered that Old Morgan died before this case w
Emily’s POVI couldn’t agree more. The park was scanty when we came but we managed to enjoy ourselves.“Okay Mr Stewart, let’s go!” I said excitedly.Stanley’s POVThe settlement was rescheduled. I boarded a flight back. I was already on the driveway back to Winster county.Emily has been posting a lot of pictures on her Instagram. “She is really having a good time with my parents at the park.” She kept tagging me in all the post. Then I saw her incoming call. I quickly picked it up.“Baby I had a good time today at the park…it was really scanty but your parents made it lively..” then I couldn’t hear her again. I heard what sounded like a thud.I heard whimpers, “what is going on?” I asked. No response. I quickly sped up car…Emily’s POVI was on call with Stanley. I did not pay attention to the door since I was the p
Smith’s POV “Softhearted people are the first to die. You are now going to question my orders?” I asked Tanner. Because I could see hesitation in his eyes. “No boss,” he answered. We drove and parked outside the street and walked to the Stewart’s house. It has been many years, but the memory of these house has not left me even for once. Tanner’s POV “Boss, how do we enter?” I asked. I was confused. The boss stood at the frontage for few minutes as though he was reminiscing about some important things. He laughed with a wicked grin, “of course I have my ways.” Smith’s POV I remembered the secret window behind the building. Back then, Charles usually use it for meditation; so he usually leave it open or partially closed. I quickly rushed to the window, thankfully it was open. I jumped in and Tanner followed suit. I thought of the best place to position ourselves for the attack. I remembered the laughter on
Melissa’s POV For the first time, since I was abducted I was afraid for my life. The person standing before me now is not a human being. He is a monster! I started shivering. For once I wished that I would be imbued with some superpowers to break free. “What do you want from me?” I asked. He laughed me, the sound echoed through out the room. “Am the boss around here,” he instructed while wringing my ears. The next statement he made, made me even more afraid. Smith’s POV “ Do you remember our good friends from high school? they will be joining us today.” I can literally feel the fear from Melissa. I am enjoying this. For me hunting is much more fun , when the prey is fearful of the predator. “Dear sister, do you remember the tale of the antelope and the lion?” Melissa’s POV Whatever he was saying was not coherent at all. “Don’t tell me you have forgotten?” he jeered. “Well, if you have really forg
Emily’s POV I woke up to find myself in an unfamiliar environment. I tried to open my eyes, it seemed like they were gummed together. Obviously compressed by the incessant headache. It was as though my head was been hit with a hammer. It penetrated my skull and affected my eyes making me to be momentarily blind. I could only see hazily. The light rays were directed to my face. Finally I regained consciousness. “Where am I?” was the first question I asked myself. I slowly recalled what happened earlier. “It is Smith,” was the melancholic response. I painfully tried to turn to the direction of the sound. The manner I was tied up was causing excruciating pain in my knees and hands, maybe because of the twisted movement I made earlier. Mr and Mrs Stewart were still unconscious. The subconscious survival instincts kicked in. I was trying to break free from where I was bound. “Don’t waste your energy. I suggest you conserve your stre
Emma’s POV I put on the radio, the news was already everywhere about Kate’s running for mayorial office. I was pleasantly surprised by her decision even after everything she had been through for years she still came out better. I am very happy for her. On getting to the station, Kayla, Vin and Lynn were very excited and happy for her. It was like I was the one running for office, I felt huge burden on me each time I remember that. The news turned Winster county mayorial candidates upside down; because right now Kate is the most popular person in Winster county. Stanley’s POV The campaign was hectic for me because she made me her campaign manager. We focused on reaching out to the youth in correctional facilities, women empowerment and environmental preservation. Before the election, Kate already has 70% of the polls. I have not had a good sleep since then, but I was very happy. This is one of the things I love doing. Helping Kate is li
Kate’s POV I was at loss on what to wear. Even though we have dated for long, I rejected his proposal once. Then our relationship became cold. But since I came back to Winster county, my heart has been skipping each time I see him. Finally, I saw the pink gown I have been looking for. It was Emma that bought it for me. It was already 7pm, I dressed up as early as 6:40pm occasionally sweating. Finally, he called me that he has come to pick me up. Melissa was very supportive and excited for me. As I stepped out, I saw him standing near his car dressed in black tuxedo suit. He came forward and took my hands. Emma’s POV I decided to look good today. I even went to the salon to cut my hair and sideburns. I was leaning on my car waiting for her to come out. Finally, she came out. She looks very beautiful in that pink gown. “Where are we going?” she asked. “It is a secret,” I answered. We arrive
Kate’s POV I have not seen Chris for three years. He looks healthy and happy. “I am doing great,” I answered. I saw that he has really changed. He was very excited to see me. “When is your parole coming up?” “Few months from now, after which I will do community service for one.” “Where do you want to serve?” I asked out of curiosity. “Youth correctional facility centre,” he answered. After Chris, the next stop for us was Tanner’s. He looked younger than he was before. Maybe it is because of his low cut hair. “Kate, it has been a long time; you look great,” he complimented. I smiled. “How are you doing?” I asked Tanner’s POV Kate was the first person that ever treated me like a human being. It is such a pity that I was a jerk back then. I don’t deserve her. “I am doing great, I have been to therapy. I am healing and working as well.” Kate’s POV I was pleasantly surprised. “That means that
Kate’s POV I was a bit nervous when climbing the podium, but now all my fear seems to have disappeared. The sound of people’s applause was deafening. I smiled, I believe I did well. People were coming up to me for photos and autographs. “What is going on?” I asked myself. I could see Emma among the crowd. He gave me a thumbs up and winked at me. Even though I rejected his proposal one year ago, he has always been there for me. My heart is beginning to open to the idea of marriage. Vin’s POV I and Emily prepared the venue for the dinner. Emily is always meticulous with such things. We booked a restaurant down the alley of Park Avenue. After the anniversary we all moved there. The old gang: Emma, Lynn, Kayla, Kate, Stanley, Dr Amanda, Emily, myself and Eddie who is joining us for the first time. “Welcome back Kate!” we all chorused as she stepped in with Emma. She was still a bit bashful! Emily’s POV
Emma’s POV We chatted with Melissa for a long time. Albert was playing around the house. It is already 3pm, we have to get going for the requiem mass for sheriff Morgan’s anniversary. “Be a good boy and listen to grandma. Mommy have to meet some friends,” she instructed Albert. He nodded and ran off playing with Melissa. As we were exiting the house we could hear him and Melissa playing and laughing. I held Kate tightly with as we entered the car to attend the anniversary. Kate’s POV When we got there, I was really surprised. The whole place was quite different from what it was three years ago. Interesting! As I stepped out of the car, I saw Kayla. She was the first to greet me. The last time I saw her was when they bid me farewell at the airport. “How have you been?” I asked. My eyes immediately went to the flashy ring on her fingers. “Congratulations to you and Eddie!” I could see the bulge that has began to f
Stanley’s POV “What gave you the confidence to defend Chris and Tanner?” I scratched my chin for answers. “ Everyone has the right to be heard. When I heard their stories, it reminded me of the daily struggles of many indigent teenagers.” “Were you pleased with the results?” she asked.I laughed heartily. “Of course. That was one of my most memorable cases ever. It reminded me that once we put hope in people they are bound to reciprocate it with love.” Emma’s POV “How do you feel about being the new Sheriff?” she asked “I feel nervous and excited at the same time.” “What ideals do you want to uphold as the sheriff?” “Security, peace, hope and inclusiveness,” I answered. She asked Kayla, Vin and Lynn different questions from work to their personal lives and what have you. Finally she turned to Kate and asked her, “what is your plan for the future?” We all turned and steadied our eyes on her. “I want to be
Agent Tom’s POV I wrote to the agency and they gave me a written statement which I submitted to the judges. That was the least I could do for Tanner. As the police were leading him away, he said the three words I have been waiting to hear for the past 19 years: “ I forgive you.” Emma’s POV Today is sheriff Morgan’s burial. We all stood up in our black suit to observe a minute silence for him. All us were sad. But deep down, we are happy that we were able to make Winster county peaceful again. Vin’s POV I was nominated to eulogize the deceased sheriff Morgan. He was like a father figure to me. “For over ten years, he had sleepless nights working night and day to ensure the safety of all in Winster county. I remembered his face each time he remembers his retirement coming up next year June. He would laugh happily and envision the various adventures he will undertake… but we lost him due to inhumanity and despicable
Melissa’s POV I have heard what I wanted to hear. I sat still on the chair as they led him back to the cell. Maybe it would have been better, if I didn’t know what happened. I regretted coming to the station. As I was thinking about it, my head became hot. I couldn’t see clearly again. The next time I woke up, I was on my bed. I don’t know how many hours I blanked out. Kate’s POV I chatted with Emma and Kayla for over an hour. We became worried about Melissa. So we went inside, on getting there Vin was already leading Smith away. Melissa collapsed. Emma and Kayla carried to our car. I drove her back. I called her doctor and explained what happened. He came and administered some medications to her. I have been excited the whole evening because tomorrow is Smith’s trial. Many media outlets will be covering the story. Stanley already told me that the judgment is by 10am. I am sure that the whole or at least three-q
Melissa’s POV I initially planned to go alone. But Kate is a welcomed distraction, if not I wouldn’t have obliged. I kept checking my watch, by 9am I left the house. On getting to the station, I have lots of questions in my mind. I saw Kate talking to Emma and Kayla. After sometime, they brought me inside the waiting room. Kate’s POV I explained to Emma that Melissa is not in her right mind. That they should keep watch. So he assigned Vin to oversee the whole incident. I on the other hand joined in Emma and Kayla in the lobby enjoying the early morning summer sun. Smith’s POV I was surprised when I saw Melissa in the waiting room. The way she was looking haggard made me happy. I smiled and sat across her from the table. Her whole facial expressions and the wrinkles on her face gave joy. “How did you meet Max?” she asked me. I didn’t want to answer before, however now that I know I can’t escape, I
