Michael waits , lying down on the floor mattress , pretending to be asleep . He listens intensely for the sign of her slumber .
As soon as her breathing transitions from quick shallow bouts to deep and regular , he raises his head , taking a peak . Her tear stained face seemed to be at peace at last . He resists the urge to growl from frustration .
' How could he do this to his own mate ? ' He thinks in anger , however , he couldn't bring himself to completely blame him . It wasn't because Jace was his Alpha , it was just that Michael understood clearly wolf behaviour and wolf urges . I don't dare to fall asleep . Better yet , I can't fall asleep would be a more accurate representation of what I'm going through . I am not used to insomnia , usually I fall asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow . After all , sleep is the only escape that I have from the real world .
