Chapter 85: Lankko Gives Remuel the Elixir

2020-11-11 22:34:54Remuel looked at the vial of magic elixir that Lankko handed to him. It seemed like a small bottle of turbid water at first glance, but when he looked at the vial against the light, he saw the slight purplish glow and assumed that to be the hallmark of the magic liquid.
“Just one vial for the disguise stone?” asked Remuel. “I was expecting a lot more.” He then looked suspiciously at Lankko.
“Disguise stones are quite complex artifacts, created by fire and water magic. Very difficult to extract,” replied Lankko, shaking his head slowly.
Remuel looked at the clay pot at the fireplace. The fire had been put out, but Remuel could tell that Lankko had used a lot of firewood based on the smaller pile left near the wall. Remuel scoffed. “You used a lot of firewood. Didn’t you just boil away the elixir?”

Iridescent scales reflected the morning sun and a snakelike figure emerged from the darkness of the trees. She shielded her eyes briefly from the sun before slithering and coming to the courtyard where the outlaws were. Eldion glanced sideways across the barrier of bricks and stone from the toppled walls of the ancient city and saw the other outlaws trying to stop the onslaught of soldiers from reaching the entrance to the tunnels. He saw Enzir and Lankko using their power to hurtle bolts of energy to the soldiers which immediately stunned them and they fell unconscious to the ground. Their powers were effective in stopping the soldiers, but without the support of Remuel, Casser and the other outlaws, they would be overrun from the sheer numbers of the imperial soldiers. Remuel and Casser fought side-by-side to the surprise of Eldion after Remuel accused his friend of numerous acts including stealing from him. Perhaps, the presence of the enemy soldiers made them forget the wrongs of each other although Eldion could not tell how long that would last.

After serving breakfast and washing the dishes, Lankko decided to go to work in extracting energy from an old healing stone that he was able to get his hands on. It was an old magical artifact that he got from his cousin who also managed to get it from an old friend. According to Gent, the stone worked by rubbing it vigorously between the user’s palms and placed over the painful area. The stone would produce enough heat to warm the area it was applied on and helped in the healing process.
