The question of ‘how?’ flew right out the window when Lumbar unexpectedly announced his knowledge of Rosé’s whereabouts. I exhaled a breath I didn’t realize I was holding, feeling a rush of surprise and relief wash over me.

“Goodnight brother,” Lumbar’s voice echoed in the room accompanied by a squishing sound of the couch as he stood up.

He placed a comforting hand over my shoulder, patting me gently.

“I am sorry I couldn’t do much, I should have found another way even if Papà agreed to it.”

My heart leaped in my chest, as I glanced at his sunken eyes, “You need rest, come on now, let’s go to bed.” I quipped, feigning indifference to his unexpected display of affection.

A soft smile played on his lips, a subtle hint that he saw through my facade of indifference.

“You too, we have a long day tomorrow.”

A silent exchange of goodnight and sleep well echoed in the air as we went in the opposite direction of each other. Lumbar’s apartment was at the left, while mine was at the right. A
