Arthur's POV

I listened to Iris, feeling sorry about everything she had gone through. She was right, her father had caused her so much pain, and thankfully, because of me, she had forgotten most of those painful moments.

I didn't know a father could be heartless to his daughter until I found Iris, in the midst of the fire that day. It was a good thing she wasn't traumatized by the event because I didn't know she could survive.

The day played in my memory like a looped tape, and I couldn't help but say,

“I'm sorry about all you passed through, and I'm glad you trust me to take good care of you.”

She smiled when she heard his words. It was good to know that he wasn't angry at her anymore for drinking.

“Don't you have anything else you want to tell me?” I asked, staring at her with lots of disappointment in my heart.

I had thought today was the day she was going to tell me her feelings, and it wasn't clear to me why she just didn't want to.
