Chapter 19 - Vows to be together

Author's POV

For a moment, everything stopped. As if the storm was making noise without a sound.

Where on one side was her stubbornness, on the other hand, her mother's bitter words.

She saw every path full of thorns. Her tears dried inside her eyes, not letting them come out.

Her heart was aching, knowing she had to give up at this moment.

The needle of time had arrived at the moment where the most significant answer of Xingyue's life was about to be heard.

Holding flowers in her hands, she started moving towards the stage.

There was visible grief on her face. Her hands were still shaking out of anxiety.

All those present guests wanted to see them vowing to be together.

Where everyone was celebrating, a man wearing a long white dress suddenly spoke, gaining their attention.

"Let's begin."

All the time, Xingyue kept her head down, maybe hiding her tears.

She couldn't even dare to meet Xi Song's eyes.

"My name is JC caster. I'm honored to be here today to celebrate the wedding of Xi Song and Li Xingyue."

"I'd like to begin the marriage ceremony according to our custom."

All the time, Xi Song was trying to meet Xingyue's eyes but failed.

He soon came back to his senses when the priest called her name.

Shaking, he held Xingyue's hands that gave her warmth, acknowledging her as everything would be alright.

"Li Xingyue, will you take this man whose hand you hold, choosing him to be your husband? To live with him for the rest of your life, to always love him, to comfort him. To follow him at all times and to be faithful to him."

Everyone's eyes were on Xingyue when she slowly raised her head and uttered words that Xi Song had no idea, nor her family.

Holding tears in her eyes, she uttered. "Yes, I do."

These words were enough to tremble Xi Song's entire world. He had never imagined Xingyue would betray his trust.

Holding grudges against her, he stared into her eyes when the priest asked him.

"Xi Song, will you take this woman whose hand you hold, choosing her to be your wife? To live with her for the rest of your life, to always love her, to comfort her. To follow her at all times and to be faithful to her."

Wasting no time, he answered. "Yes, I do."

And in a moment, everything collapsed apart.

Their trust in each other, the contract they signed, their life, everything.

But the thing that left was the joyful shouting of the guests that seemed to hurt them more.

No one was sure that the marriage would end the opposite of what they thought.

Everyone was shouting out to kiss the bride when a tear escaped her eyes.

Under the guise of anger, Xi Sang bowed down. But he gave up after kissing her cheek.

While everyone was busy eating food, Xingyue was sitting alone, cursing her luck, only then her mom came and sat beside her.

Both were staring at the stars when Xingyue chuckled scornfully.

"Are you happy now after destroying your daughter's life?"

"One day, you'll come to me, Xingyue, and will tell me that mom was always right."

Rolling her eyes, she sneered. "That day will never come."

Before getting up, her mom patted her head and said. "One day, you'll know Xi Song was the best event in your life. Happy married life, my daughter!"

After all the guests left, Xingyue and Xi Song reached his house. Though all the way, they didn't utter a word. At home, she couldn't hold herself back.

The tears that were holding her for a few moments suddenly started flowing.

"Why did you do this to me, Xi Song? I trusted you."

He remained calm and kept doing his work.

"You betrayed me first, Xingyue. You're the one who said yes."

Her lips soon curved into a fury smile. "Oh! Now, I know. You planned all this, right? So that when I say no, everything would be settled there. The vow wouldn't come to you. Your family wouldn't have to be humiliated. Everything will be on my mom and me."

Unsettled, his brows creased as he tried to understand her words.

"What are you saying, Xingyue?"

"YOU DID ALL THIS JUST TO TAKE REVENGE ON ME, RIGHT?"

All this was fine, but hearing the word Revenge, he too could not stop his frustration.

"WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY? YOU WERE THE ONE WHO SAID YES. HOW CAN THEN I KEEP MY WORDS WHEN YOU BETRAYED MY TRUST?"

Tears were rolling down to her cheeks when she wiped them with the back of her hands.

"XI SONG, EVEN IF WE'RE MARRIED, I'LL NEVER ACCEPT YOU AS MY HUSBAND."

Upon saying this, she left home. Xi Song didn't even try to stop her as he had no control over his anger either. He rushed to his bedroom and threw himself on the bed.

"You'll never understand me, Xingyue."

Outside there was a hammock in his yard. She sat there silently and sobbed.

It was not her first time, but she felt so miserable in this world. As if no one tried to understand her feelings.

She was starting to feel suffocated by her life. The thought of giving up still roam around her mind.

She was missing that person who made her stronger. But sadly, he was no longer with her.

Lifting her chin, she stared at those stars.

"Dad, I need you. I can't be stronger than this."

She firmly pressed her lips as tears fell on her knees.

"Dad, please come back."

She started retaining the moments she spent with her dad. Those arms where she felt protection were no more to hold her again.

She could now see the only support that could calm her restless heart.

Trembling, she picked her phone and dialed her best friend's number.

??: Hello? Xingyue?

Hearing her voice, she cried over again as her voice cracked in between.
