Dream smiled, she was in a garden giggling happily as the butterflies danced around her. She couldn't remember the last time she was this happy and smiling this broad.
She picked a flower and pushed it into her hair, she inhaled it's fragrance and smiled again.
"Dream! Dream baby!" She heard her mother called out.
The sharp pain she felt in her neck as she stirred, made her realise that her happiness was a dream. She sighed and raised her head, realising that she had slept of on the steering wheel, no wonder her neck hurts so bad.
"Dream! Are you sleeping!?" Her mother asked, knocking on the window.
Dream sucked in a deep breath before glancing at the time in her car. She wanted to know if she really needed to get down from the car, it was 5:30am.
"Time to prepare for school," She muttered and opened the car.
"Hi, how was your night?" Samantha asked, happy that her daughter finally got down.
Dream slammed the door of the car shut and started walking away, completely ignoring her mother. She didn't want to speak with to any of them that morning.
"Dre—honey," Samantha called out, but Dream paid deaf ears as she continued to walk fast.
"I've failed as a mother," Sam sighed bitterly.
She turned to her car, opened the door and reclined on its seat. She slid the key into it's hole, took one last glance at the window of Dream's room which was dark before she kick started the car and drove out.
"Dream," Her father called in a calm voice, from the bar as she stepped her foot into the sitting room.
She ignored him, walking towards the stairway.
"I'm talking you young lady!" He raised his voice but she still was acting deaf, climbing the stairs.
"Acting deaf won't save you from me though!" He yelled before walking out of the house.
Dream climbed the stairs where she had left her bag and memories of yesterday flooded into her mind.
Tears brewed up in her eyes, she met the bag she had left there last night, still in the position she had left it.
Even her mother who pretends to care couldn't help her to take her bag to her room, when she didn't come back inside last night they didn't even care to look for her. It was so obvious they hated her.
Her body drooped to the floor and shook as she cried, No one cared If she lived or died.
The hallway was a bit noisy, students in cliques were talking and gossiping, the lone ones were on their phone.
Dream walked down the hallway, her bag strapped on her back and as usual, her head lowered. She didn't want to start her day with troubles..
"The dirt finally shows up her garbage face," she heard Emma's voice say behind her.
Speaking of trouble, she thought she was going to be lucky that morning but sadly, luck was never on her side.
Dream stood where she was, transfixed, waiting for her to finish whatever she wanted to say so she could head to class.
"How did you enjoy your strawberry party yesterday?" Emma asked, laughing, "you enjoyed it right?"
Dream kept quiet, she didn't want to say anything neither did she want to see the bitch standing behind her, her swollen face too! If they see it, it was going to be a situation of adding salt to injury.
"You scumbag! Our second is talking you!" One of the girls with Emma yelled, gaining the attention of students who hadn't noticed something was going on.
"Just let her be Justina! She is too scared to look at us," Giggled Emma, "I mean, the party we threw "on" her must have taught her a lesson!"
The two girls behind her giggled in affirmation.
"What's wrong with the inferior one! Can't she see that Emma is talking to her?"
"She is such a foolish thing!"
"Just look at the big shirt and jeans she is wearing! Her sense of fashion is condemned beyond repair," The students in the hallway grumbled amongst themselves, watching the scene.
"Did your parents fight in public again?" Another girl said and the trio laughed.
"Ohh jeez Trina that was uncalled for!" Cautioned Emma, amidst laughter.
Dream clenched her fists, Emma knew what she was doing but she was not going to react, she was going to listen to them fool themselves.
It wasn't actually their fault for pointing that out, it was all her parents fault. If only they had not fought in the park when they took her out, if only they had not quarrelled at the airport this could have not been used to taunt her.
They hated her but they keep causing troubles troubles for her without knowing. Her father had hit her because he felt we was dragging his name in mud but he didn't know or he is too foolish to know he was actually the one denting his name and image.
Emma got pissed off, whatever she had said to dream didn't anger her neither did she reply. She had expected her to react and throw a fit for mentioning her parents but surprisingly she didn't.
"You bitchy thing—" Emma raised her hand to hit but the sound of the bell stopped her. She was scared of Mrs Meyers, who is the new disciplinary head, she didn't want her to ask her to clean the toilet again.
Students began to disperse, gossiping among themselves.
Dream turned with her head still lowered, "I guess you're done," She stated and walked out before Emma could think of a reply.
"That inferior bitchy thing!" Emma scoffed. She was very angry, how could the inferior one do that?.
"You douchebag! You and I know that you can never get away!" She yelled but Dream paid deaf ears, walking briskly to the other side of the hallway where her locker is located at.
"Id—"
"It's okay Emma or do you want to wash the toilet again?" interjected Justina.
Emma's face scrunched in disgust, "how the fuck do you want me to do that or do you want to get spanked?"
"Sorry Emma," apologised Justina, "we should head to class now"
"Yeah, right,"
Dream sat at the back of the mathematics class, bored. Mr Rogers was teaching something about factorization shit and she didn't want to pay attention to him.
She has always hated Mathematics, she always did well in other subjects except Mathematics, she hated it to the core probably that's the reason why she'll never do well in it.
She turned her head and her eyes met with a blue four-eyed guy. He was one of the nerds in class, his name is Sean. He was like an invisible person in the class, Almost no one wanted to interact with him.
Dream smiled at him and he lowered his head, making her wonder if he was blushing which made her a little elated.
Although Dream was always bullied and hated herself she always flirted with guys she found cute at any opportunity she gets. It made her feel better.
She saw him look at her again, she smiled and gave him a sexy look before looking away. After few seconds she found his cheeks burning red while his head was lowered a little.
Dream couldn't help but chuckle and wonder if he was into her.
"Miss Dream please pay attention," cautioned the mathematics teacher.
Dream sighed, blew Sean a kiss and quickly turned to the board faking attention.
Dream slammed the door of her locker shut and walked sluggishly to the cafeteria while swinging her hands.
She pushed the door of the cafeteria open and walked straight to the counter to order her food.
She took the tray of her spaghetti and meatballs and walked to the corner of the cafeteria where she loved sitting whenever she felt like eating in the cafeteria.
Dream sighed as she sat down, she didn't know why she felt like eating in the cafeteria today. Probably because she was excited, why was she even excited?
She giggled and dipped her fork into the plate of spaghetti, scooped some amount and put it into her mouth.
She was about to compliment the taste when she heard a loud bang on the table she was sitting on.
"Look who is joining us at the cafeteria today?" She heard the devil herself say and she flinched.
She thought that day was a very good day but luck is not always on her side.
"What do you want Elena?" asked Dream, in a low but stern voice.
Elena and her minions burst into laughter, "wow the Inferior one is acting brave today,"
"That's a great opportunity Queen Elena," Elena stated, "you know, earlier I had approached her and she was acting deaf."
"How nice," Elena said and sat down with her friends.
Zara sighed, "this girl saps all my fucking energy."
"Look up Dream!" commanded Bella in a very stern voice and Dream did immediately.
Although Bella was the quiet one among them, she had an authoritative and kind of wicked aura around her which made students shake and give way at the sight of her.
Bella hardly bullies me, what did I do to deserve this unexpected visit from all three?, Dream thought.
"Do you know invisible?" asked Bella and Dream shook her head.
"English please, you're not dumb,"
"No,"
The trio burst into laughter before stopping,
"You're such a dummy!" Bella yelled and slapped Dream, drawing the attention of students.
Dream whimpered, "why do y'all hate me so much? Why?"
"How dare you ask us questions!?" yelled Emma.
"Calm down dear Emma," Zara spoke for the first time.
"You know how to flirt but you don't know how to defend yourself, you're so shamelessly foolish," Bella said in cold voice.
Dream immediately understood what she meant and she couldn't help but wonder if Bella has anything to do with the invisible nerd.
"Err—it was just a friendly—"
"Friendly what!" interjected Emma, "is there anything like friendly flirting?"
"No," the students chorused.
Bella stood up and grabbed her uniform by the neck, choking her
"Stay the fuck away from him else you wouldn't like what would happen to you next—failure," Bella seethed, "you can keep dreaming but you can never have him Dream,"
She realeased her dress and walked away without talking to her gang members.
"Tch she is so self centered," complained Zara, folding her hands on her chest.
"I thought you were the one who told me to let her join!?" Elena half yelled.
Dream decided to take their little fight as an opportunity to sneak away, before she could get to past the girls standing behind their "Queen", she felt someone, no two people hit her legs.
She fell down with a loud thud making all students in the cafeteria laugh.
"Dummy, do you think that you can easily run away?" Elena asked, standing in front of her.
"I'll go straight to the point, I have to eat lunch," She stated, flipping her hair.
"Why did you not go to work yesterday?"
"What?"
"Why are so deaf!?"
"Err—" Dream was wondering what they wanted from her that made them go to the library, she prayed that they had not threatened anyone.
"Hmm? Has cat got your tongue?"
"Something came up," Dream stated, it was the only thing she could come up with.
"What is that thing? Can't you give a fuckin' definite answer!?" Emma yelled, slapping her.
"Calm down Emma, remember no violence today," Zara cautioned.
She giggled, "yes my Queen,"
"You might be wondering what we needed," Elena smiled, walking around Dream, "we just wanted to play,"
Dream cringed at the sound of play, that means they had planned to do something bad at the library.
"Who and what did you wanted to play with?" Dream asked irritatedly and stood up, dusting her dress.
"Oh my I'm so scared," Zara squealed, faking fear and everyone laughed.
"You're so stupid to think that you'll ever be brave," Elena stated matter-of-factly, "let me make this clear to you failure, you can never ever stand up to us not even in your next life!"
"But you could keep dreaming," added Emma ad everyone laughed again.
They were going start taunting her with her name again, they knew that it was one of the things that makes her react quickly but she was not ready for their hide and seek games today.
"Tch Dream the dreamer," Zara mocked.
"What the hell did I do to y'all? Why won't yall leave me for fucks sake!!" Dream yelled.
"Awwttss that had really hit her hard Zara, that was too harsh," Elena feigned sympathy.
"But I think this would be better!" Her hand landed on Dream's face and she yelped.
Emma took the plate of spaghetti, poured it on her hair and kicked her to the floor.
One of the girls poured the soda she was holding and hit her hard on her face, making blood seep out of her nose.
"Oww don't do that we don't wanna get expelled do we?" Elena questioned and her gang members replied "no"
"I know we really wanna to make her more uglier than this but we have to be careful so we don't get expelled, you get?"
"Yes my Queen,"
The members got food from the counter and poured it on her, they kept doing so till she became a "walking food".
"Oww," Zara yelped, one of her members had poured strawberry juice on her, "Are you blind?"
"I'm sorry miss," She curtsied and Zara got irritated.
Dream looked up and took it as an opportunity to escape to her comfort zone, she stood up and started running towards the garden.
"Miss she left!" She heard one of the girls inform their Queen.
"Run after her!" She heard Elena ordered and she hasten her steps.
She finally got to the garden. She crouched, supporting her weight on her knees with her hands while panting.
"Why are you running?"
"Why are you running?" she heard a girly but masculine voice asked and she turned to see who it was. He was sitting on the bench, her favorite spot precisely, his head was up high glued to to the beautiful and colourful butterflies dancing around the flowers. His fairly lengthy blonde hair was styled perfectly covering his forehead, his hands were deeper into the pockets of his trousers, the bench was not long enough to contain his tall but lean body. "Who are you?" She questioned taken aback by his presence. 'No one, rather too many people don't know this place but how come did this stranger find here?' she thought, observing him. "Hmm who am I? I really don't know," He said, nonchalantly not even darting his eyes away from the butterflies he was watching. "How did you find this place?" She asked again, not minding
"Err— Did you hear what happened to Romeo?" "No what happened?" Dream asked, wondering what had happened. She is not usually aware of whatever was happening in school, now it's the person close to her. "He approached the NASTIES and warned them about staying away from you," Erica stated, looking at her. "What! Why would he do that!?" She exclaimed, he might think that he was trying to make her life easier but it he was actually making her life more complicated. "From what I heard, after school yesterday he had met them at their favourite spot and he warned them to stay away from you else he was going to do something that you everyone would not like," she explained, cleaning the last speck of dirt on Dream's skirt. "What everyone would not like? What does he mean by that?" Dream exclaimed, many thoughts were running through he
She turned with tears in her eyes and asked, "who are you really?" He didn't know what to tell her, he hesitated to answer and she felt he was going to lie to her again, she started walking away feeling bad. "Dream please hear me out," He pleaded, lowering his head. "What do I have to hear out when you don't have anything to say?" questioned Dream with a look of displeasure. "I promise to tell you everything if only you can spare me a little time after school so we can attended classes," Dream sighed, contemplating if she should agree or not. "Fine," She rasped and he gave her a warm smile. She ignored him and started walking to class, with many thoughts on her mind. She was so engrossed in her thoughts that she didn't notice Mrs Meyers coming from the opposite direction with books in her arm and s
"Hey Romeo," A bold husky voice interrupted him and Dream looked up, it was him. "When did he get back?" Romeo muttered in fear. "Romeo? I'm talking to you!" The guy with husky voice said. "Oh hi!" Romeo greeted with fear visible in his voice, "when did you get back?" "Yesterday I think," The guy replied, grinning. "Oh okay," Romeo gave him a faux smile before turning to Dream, "let's get out of here," Dream smiled, grabbing her bag and jacket before standing up and following Romeo who was already at the door of the restaurant. "Who was that?" Dream asked as she locked the door of the car. "An—an old friend," He muttered, slotting in the key into it's hole. Dream noticed how uneasy he felt, making her to be more curious. He glanced at her and smile at her as he started the car, &
"He is back," She heard a voice mumble behind her, she knew it's owner but she wanted to see the shy boy. "Who?" She questioned. "Ashton, Ashton Baxter," he muttered, his voice quivering as memories of Ashton bullying him played in his head. Dream looked up at him and saw fear visible in his eyes which was covered by his glasses. Was the damage that bad?. "Sean let's go get lemonade from the vending machine, you'll be okay." She smiled at him and he nodded. She led him to where the vending machine was standing just very close to exit door of the hallway. "I have few coins with me," She told him, putting her hands into her huge sweater and bringing out five coins. She made to grab the pad but Sean halted her, "I've really love this game since I was y
"Why is this place boring!?" Someone asked sitting on the last chair on the table and everyone turned to look at him in shock. Oh no!... Dream panicked as she watched him sit down close to her. She was now in between Romeo and Ashton with Sean glaring at her from across the table. Dream sighed and face palmed herself, what the hell is going on in her life?. She sucked in a deep breath and opened another pack of juice, sipping slowly from it. Romeo and Sean's eyes were also glued to their food, as they kept scooping little amounts of their mouth and chewing slowly. "Okay!" Romeo hit his hand on the table, so loud that the aftermath made the students look at their table. "Oops." Dream muttered, feeling eyes boring holes into her skin. "Wow classic." One of the students close to their t
"Here!" Ashton waved at Zeke to pass him the ball. Zeke did and Ashton hit the ball on the ground, bouncing it while running swiftly towards the opponent's basket. "Yes!" Ashton ran to their side of the court and jumped, punching the air. That was his own way jubilating for victory. His team members joined him in jubilating. It was just a friendly match-pratice thing but they took it seriously. They didn't want to loose to grade 11, they will become an object of mockery among younger students. "Good job Baxter." The coach patted his shoulder before handing him a bottle of water. Ashton opened the cap of the bottle and chugged down half of It's content. He raised the bottle to drink from it but a sound which seemed like someone sobbing stopped him. 'Why was that person crying?' he thought, cleaning his body, re
Dream cringed hearing her mother's voice. How the hell was she going to get rid of the both of them? * * * Samantha got to her daughter's bed and reached out to her, inspecting her body and asking her numerous questions. "Why are you at the hospital? What happened to you? Why are you holding your head? Why is there paint on your beautiful hair and sweet body?" She paused, remembering she had seen a guy's figure when she entered. She raised her head and glanced at him before asking a cringey last question. "Who is he?" Dream scoffed, her mother was overreacting but she didn't want to act rude in front of a stranger. Well not necessarily rude but she didn't want to disgra
"Dream do you like him?" he resounded, his pitch going higher. Why was he sounding like he was angry? Dream couldn't understand what the problem was. Why was he suddenly getting angry and asking such questions? "I really don't understand what you're talking about!" It was her turn to raise her voice. "What part of "do you like him" do you not understand!? stop acting dumb Dream!" He half yelled, genuflecting with his hands. Dream scoffed and looked away before standing up. "I really didn't expect you'll do something like this Romeo." she muttered and walked away. She walked slowly, expecting Romeo to call her back but he never did, making her anger intensify. "What the hell!" she groaned kicking the trashcan close to her. Everyone was just too annoying. Ashton angrily walked back to
Dream's cheeks burnt red as she glanced at the jacket she was wearing feeling really embarrassed. Why must she always disgrace herself? "I—" he stalked her frame making her to stop talking and take a step backwards. "You should keep it. It suits you well." He smirked, arranging the jacket properly. Dream's hand gripped her books tightly as she stared at him bewildered. Many thoughts were running through her mind. Why the hell was he doing this? What was he trying to do? Did he know that he was causing troubles for her? "Its really Ashton's jacket!" One of the students exclaimed, bringing out her phone. "Are you kidding me!? Do you know if he is just joking around?" Another student countered. "Oh please just shut it! Can't you see he wore it yesterday?" "Jeez! Zara needs to see this!"
He patted her hair as he silently made a promise to himself. He was going to protect her from today. * * * Samantha watched Dream and Ashton with a smile on her face and tears stinging her eyes. She had been watching them since Dream started crying. When she saw him hug her when she broke into tears, the way he held her made her feel at peace a little bit. He has finally decided to accept her offer. She wiped her face and made to walk to where they were sitting but she changed her mind. She wanted to leave them to have some time together. She turned to leave but she collided with what seemed like a wall, but it wasn't. It was a a muscled chest covered with a white T shirt. Who was that?
"Snap out of it bro." Romeo said, grumpily standing behind him and pointing at Dream who was looking through the glass wall. Ashton swivelled around to look at him, raising his eyebrows. What was he talking about? "She is mine." He seethed and Ashton glared at him. "What do you mean she is yours?" He asked. "You'll find —" he tried to say. "What are y'all doing there!? Let's order something, I'm hungry!" Dream whined, interrupting him. "Oh yeah go ahead we would join you soon," Ashton replied with a faux smile on his face. Dream nodded and skipped away. "Be very careful, don't try to fall for her. Stick to your babes." Romeo smirked, patting Ashton's shoulder. Ashton glared at him as anger surged through him. Why the hell was he trying to provoke him? He would
"Heyyy calm down lover boy, I'll tell you what I know." Ashton replied still smiling. Romeo let go of his collar and sat back impatiently waiting for him to spill whatever he knew. "She is at the hospital." Ashton stated, calmly. "What happened? What did you do to her!?" He yelled grabbing his collars again. Ashton pushed his hands away angrily. "Stop this nonsense bro. If you cared about her why didn't you check on her before you left school yesterday!?" Ashton yelled. At this point, students were already gathered around them. "If it weren't for me she would have almost died yesterday!" Romeo felt a pang of guilt inside of him, he knew Ashton was right and didn't want to argue with him any longer. He glared at him and picked up his bag before stomping out. Ashton sighed and smoothened
