CHARLOTTE'S POV
I stared at the man who walked in in shock. How did he find me? And why was he here? Mr Sam is going to hurt him! He looked at me with a shocked expression and I shook my head at him as I tried to tell him to leave. Mr Sam got up and walked to him and I panicked. I can't endanger a stranger that saved my life. I got up and held Mr Sam's hand, stopping him from moving forward. “He doesn't know anything about this. Please let him go. He has nothing to do with me at all. He's probably in the wrong house. You can do whatever you want to me just- just let him leave first. Please.” I pleaded with him and a smirk formed on his face as he yanked my hands away from his and pulled my hair tightly. “Let her go! Why are you doing this? What has she done to you?” The stranger asked and tried to come closer and I knew I had to do something. “NO! Go away! Just leave and never come back! You were never welcome here anyway. This is all your fault! If you had left me to die yesterday, then none of this would be happening! Just get out!” I yelled at the top of my voice and the hurt expression on his face broke my heart but I had no choice. I had to make him leave so he wouldn't get hurt. Mr Sam laughed as he flung me towards the bed and walked to him. “I love this drama, can I have more of it? Listen to me ugly face, I don't know who you are and I don't care-” “I'm her husband.” Mr Sam looked at him confused and he repeated it. “I'm her husband. You asked who I was and I'm telling you now that I'm her husband and she's my wife.” I stared at him with my mouth wide open and Mr. Sam looked more surprised than I was. It took a while for him to process what he had heard and when he finally did, he burst into laughter, holding his stomach as his body wracked. “You? Her? Husband and wife? Pfft please!” He continued laughing and the rest of his gang joined him, laughing their asses out. To my surprise, he looked so calm and waited for them to snap out of their laughing state. “She's my wife and I've come to take her home with me. Do you have a problem with that?” He asked, with a brow raised and I could swear he looked so attractive doing that. Mr Sam's expression changed and in anger, he ordered one of his men to hold him down. No no no, this was what I was trying to avoid! I appreciate him trying to save me but these men will do anything to destroy his life! I tried to get up but I fell back down immediately as my head pounded really hard and my vision got blurry. The huge man walked up to him and tried to pick him up but he sent the huge man flying in a split second. My brain immediately came to life and I stared at him in shock. What just happened? He cracked his knuckles and rolled his head slightly as he flexed his arms. How did he do that so effortlessly? “Who's next?” He asked with a smile and it only made Mr Sam angrier. “Get him! And make him kneel before me!” His minions went after him and he took them out one after the other. My house was a huge disaster with dents and cracks everywhere. With all his minions knocked unconscious, Mr Sam got scared and looked around for something to defend himself. The strange man walked to Mr Sam and raised his arm like he was about to punch him and when Mr Sam flinched in fear, he laughed and flicked his forehead. “I don't know why you're treating her like this... But this is not the way to go about it. This is considered assault and abuse and you could spend the rest of your life behind bars.” He shook his head in disappointment and walked towards me with a smile on his face. “I-” He didn't let me speak as he picked me up and took me to his car. When he made sure I was well tucked in, he looked at me and I knew he had a lot of questions to ask me. “What's your name?” I asked him and he looked shocked, not expecting that question from me at all. “Owen.” He answered and he stared at the road with his hands gripping the steering wheel. “You can ask me anything. I'll answer. You've saved my life twice now and I owe you big time.” A look of relief washed over his face and he turned to look at me. “Why did you run away from the hospital?” That was not the question I was expecting him to ask, he surprised me a lot. I looked down at my hands, not knowing how to answer his question. I played with my fingers and he seemed to notice how nervous I was. “If you don't want to answer then it's fine. You don't-” “I don't understand why I left either. But I wasn't comfortable there. And I felt like I didn't deserve the treatment or your kindness. All these things happening to me are my doings. I wouldn't want to bother anyone or be a burden.” I looked up at him with tears welling up in my eyes and I felt nothing but gratitude towards him. “I'm extremely grateful that you came for me. But what happened today should never happen again! What if they had killed you? What if you got injured because of me? What if-” “But I'm fine right? And I was able to get you out of there safely. I don't get into what I know I can't handle. I have a black belt in karate. Who were those men by the way and why did they do this to you?” He asked as he finally turned on the car's engine and drove us to the hospital. “They're loan sharks. My parents took a huge loan from them and when they died, I had to take the responsibility of paying it up. Whenever I couldn't pay up, they did this to me. Beat me up and abuse me badly. I got fired from my job yesterday and that was why I decided to commit suicide. But you ruined everything.” I explained with a small voice and he sighed, running his hand over his hair. “Should I be sorry I saved your life? Because I'm not. You did nothing wrong! Why should you suffer for what your parents did? It makes no sense!” He complained and I almost smiled at his expression. He drove into the hospital and when he got out, he picked me up like I weighed nothing. I tried not to think too much about it but it felt nice to be carried. The nurses looked surprised to see us again and he spoke to them harshly because of their lack of security. He made sure that they all kept their eyes on me and checked up on me every now and then so I wouldn't run away again. He also generously donated some money for getting more security in the hospital. Which, of course, made them all very happy. When he walked inside the room and made sure I was feeling comfortable on the bed, I looked at him nervously and he raised a brow at me. “You want to ask me something?” He asked and I nodded slightly. “Well go ahead, stop staring at me like I could bite you or something.” I sighed and played with my fingers, anxiety, and worry taking over me. “Can you... help me? With my debt I mean. If I leave here now, Mr. Sam will find me and I don't know what he'll do to me again. You look very rich and I'm sure you'll need a worker or something so what I'm saying is... Can you help me? I will work for you until I'm able to pay it all up.” He stared at me like I was stupid and I almost slapped myself for bringing up such an idea. “So you want me to help you with your debts while you work for me until you're able to pay up? Why would I wanna do that?” He asked nonchalantly and I wracked my brain for an answer until I got one. “Be-because you said you're my husband and therefore you need to take responsibility for your wife.” I stuttered and mentally facepalmed myself as he stared at me in amusement. What stupidity did I just let out? “Because you're my wife huh...” He looked like he was thinking of something and suddenly he looked at me with a mischievous smile. “Alright, I'll help you. But I have a condition.”OWEN'S POV“I have a condition.” She looked at me with hope in her eyes and I thought about this again. Would this be a good idea?"How much is the money?" I enquired, wanting to know what I was getting myself into. She looked at her fingers as she played with them, she's probably nervous."A hundred thousand dollars." She whispered and I stared at her in shock. That's what she was getting abused for?"Just that?" I asked to be sure and she nodded slowly. That's a small amount compared to the trauma she's going through.I could help her with her loans, I'm rich enough to pay off the loans in the United States. She'll have to be my wife.Marrying her will benefit me a lot, I just need to pay off her debt, and then she gets married to me for three months and the inheritance is mine. She won't have any additional deal or request to make so this will all fall in my favor.“I'll pay off all of your debts if you decide to marry me.” She gaped at me in disbelief and I felt offended. I'm a to
CHARLOTTE'S POV I stared out the window, taking a deep breath in as I braced myself for the impending outburst and I flinched when I heard her yell.“WHAT!?” Roselia yelled, her hands on her waist as she paced around the room, trying to comprehend all I had just told her. “What do you mean you're getting married? And it's a contract marriage at that? What were you thinking!?” I sighed and tried to calm her down but she wasn't having any of it. My chest began to hurt and as I grimaced in pain, she finally noticed and calmed down as she helped me lay down.“You should let me explain myself, Rosie.” I held her hand and she looked at me with worry and concern. “Yesterday, I wanted to end my life, but it seemed like this man was sent by the heavens to save my life.”“Micheal betrayed me, Rose. He cheated on me. He said she was better than me in every way. My life fell apart and when I thought it was over, this man appeared like an angel sent from God. He hit me by accident and brought me
OWEN'S POVShe looked worried, but I didn't know if she was worried about me or worried about the fact that I might cancel the contract. That's never gonna happen. I slipped my hand inside my pocket and brought out a ring case and her eyes lit up.“There was something about her that didn't sit well with me.” She looked confused and I almost laughed. “The question you asked me, why I proposed the contract to you when I already had someone.” Her mouth formed into an ‘O’ and she nodded like she understood me. I knew she didn't because she was still playing with her fingers nervously. “So…” She started with a small voice. “Is there something about me that sits well with you?” Her question caught me off guard and I found myself thinking about it as well. What made me propose the contract to her anyway? “I don't know… I guess it was because you needed my help? And you don't look like a gold digger so… that's probably why.” She nodded again, this time it looked like she finally understo
CHARLOTTE'S POV Days had passed since Owen placed a ring on my finger and I hadn't seen him since then, which is understandable because he's a workaholic. I watched as Rose helped me pack my things and I glanced around the hospital room. I had actually gotten used to these white walls and I knew I was gonna miss the outside view from here.I sighed as I thought about the past events that led me here. And I still found it hard to believe that I was indeed free and married to a freaking billionaire. I thought of Micheal and though my heart clenched in pain from how much he hurt me, I felt grateful that he did. If he hadn't, I don't think I'd have met Owen. I looked at my phone and it was already past 12. Owen said he'd be here early this morning but he still wasn't here yet. I wondered if he was working and had forgotten about me. I scoffed at the thought and was just about to start complaining when the door opened and he walked in.“Took you long enough.” I murmured loud enough for h
OWEN'S POVI stared at Catherine in shock as my grip on Charlotte's hand tightened and I could feel her burning eyes on me. Why was she here?“Mother? Why is she-” I was interrupted by my father's loud squeal as he rushed to the doorstep, pushing past Mom and Catherine. Are men allowed to make such noises? I was still confused about what was happening but at the same time relieved that my father stepped in.“You must be Charlotte, you're so beautiful.” He said as he held her other hand in his since I refused to let go of her hand. He was beaming with joy and I felt bad for not doing this earlier. He smiled at me and it made me happy to see him smile because of something I did after a very long time. “Come on in! We've been waiting and preparing for your arrival. Come. Beatrice! Get the table ready!” He extended his arm to her and even though she looked overwhelmed, she locked arms with my father and walked inside with him, as Rose followed her in.“Mom? What just happened? How could
CHARLOTTE'S POVShe's here again. Right from the moment she smiled at me at the doorstep, I envied her. She looked so beautiful and had the most beautiful smile ever. How can a human be so perfect? I felt so negligible beside her. It looked like she and Owen had known each other for a while now. Should I be jealous? No. Am I jealous? Hell no! I watched as she sat on the bed beside him and I was tempted to leave the room for them. But then I remembered, this rich irresponsible workaholic is now my husband and so, I have a right to be here, isn't that right? I took a seat on the couch and raised the book to my face so I could listen in on their conversations.“Surprised to see me again Owen?” She started and I moved the book down a bit to see Owen's reaction. He stood up as he moved away from her and came to sit at the edge of the couch I sat on. I stared at him in shock as he looked at me and spoke calmly.“Wifey, you asked who she was earlier, well, that's Catherine, the lady I told
OWEN'S POVI was hurt. I wasn't supposed to be but I was. What? I was dumb for rejecting Catherine and choosing her? Shouldn't she be eternally grateful to me for choosing her and helping her out of her debt? I heard a knock and I stayed silent, not wanting to talk to her anymore. There was another knock and just as I was about to yell, the door opened and Caleb walked in. I was relieved when he came in and just as I stood up, he smiled at me and patted my back. “My big bro is getting married soon. Why do I feel left out?” He said with a sulky expression and I laughed. “She's really pretty though, and it looks like you made a great choice.” I smiled at the compliment but when he added “for the first time in your life”, I scowled at him and he just shrugged it off.“You're not angry at me anymore?” I asked and he sat down on the couch with a smile on his face. “Of course I'm not.” He answered and I immediately sighed in relief.“I was angry that you made that decision behind my back
CHARLOTTE'S POVI woke up to a knock on the door and my heart spiked as I knew Mr Sam was here to collect his money. I looked around desperately for a weapon to defend myself when I realized I wasn't within the walls of my small cramped house anymore. The walls weren't peeling off and the ceiling wasn't crooked. It was a dream? I sighed in relief as I patted my chest to call myself down. There was a knock again and my brain finally clicked. I'm the wife- or let me say fiancée to one of the richest men in Michigan and I'm literally under his roof right now. I rubbed my eyes to be sure I wasn't in my delulu world and it was still the same. I got out of bed and finally opened the door to see a frustrated Roselia standing with her hand about to knock on the door again. I smiled apologetically as I held her hand and pulled her inside, my eyes still groggy from sleep. She gasped in surprise as she looked around and I beamed as well, not able to control my excitement.“Isn't this beautifu
OWEN'S POVMonths had passed since my parents’ death and Caleb's cruel execution. One that he deserved. I couldn't help but remember him every now and then. The happy times we shared, the bliss and excitement that we experienced together… How could it all be a lie?“Snap out of it, Mister. The brides will be here any minute.” Ethan said as he helped me straighten my bow and suit and I rubbed my hands nervously.“Tell me the truth, Ethan, do I look good enough?” I whispered and he hit my shoulder as he fixed his bow too and stood beside me.“Don't you know that you have the limelight on you? I'm in the shadows here, Sir.” He said with a chuckle and I chuckled too as the priest walked up to the altar.“Can you believe it? We're both getting married on the same day to inseparable friends. This is called what, fate?” I mumbled and he shook his head in amusement as we turned to look at the entrance.“Damn it! The rings!” I exclaimed in horror and he slapped the back of my head as he took i
CHARLOTTE'S POVI took deep breaths as I stood in front of the beautiful gates and Owen took my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. I lifted my head to look at me and he had a small smile on his face as he rang the doorbell twice. We waited in silence, my breath held in nervousness and after a while, someone pulled the door open. I plastered a smile on my face and when the man looked at me then at Owen, a warm smile formed on his face as he opened the gate wide open for us to come in.I was surprised at how he treated us but then, who wouldn't treat Owen right, knowing who is? We walked inside hand in hand and the man guided us inside the house and told us to wait while he called his bosses.I glanced around and the beauty of the house took my breath away. It was magnificent and luxurious. It reminded me of how I felt when I first stepped into the Walkers’ house.“Are you okay?” Owen asked as he rubbed my hands gently and I nodded.“Just a bit nervous. That's all.” I said with a ner
CHARLOTTE'S POVI wasn't just nervous, I was panicking. The anxiety threatened to swallow me whole and sweat kept running down my face, ruining my makeup for the fifth time.“Char, come on! It's not even hot yet you're sweating so much. You know what, you don't need makeup. You're already so pretty on your own. Just stop being so nervous and scared. They're your parents, not God.” Rose said as she took out another wiper and started to wipe my face clean.I knew she was right but I couldn't help the fear that clawed at my throat, threatening to end me.“You don't get it, Rose. This isn't just anybody. These people are almost on par with Owen! How am I supposed to feel knowing that my biological parents are important figures in the country and I lived my whole life running from debt? Make it make sense, Rose!” I exclaimed in frustration as I collapsed into the chair.“We should have gotten this over with a month ago but they just had to leave the country at that time. Now they're back a
OWEN'S POVThe day was finally here. The day of judgment for Caleb.Charlotte and I stood hand in hand in the crowded courtroom, the tension in the air thick enough to slice through with a knife. My grip on her hand tightened and she looked at me with a reassuring smile.I turned and my eyes met Caleb's, who stood at the defendant's table with his expression showing that he was unbothered. He looked like he was ready to face whatever came his way, like he didn't care and none of this mattered to him.For a man who had caused me so much pain, he was very calm, which disturbed me greatly.I clenched my fist as the weight of everything he had done began to press down on me so much that it almost suffocated me.My parents... Charlotte’s parents... Beatrice… those innocent lives that he took. How could he stand there without a sign of remorse? The judge finally entered, and the room went silent. Everyone stood as we waited for him to take his seat. My heart pounded harshly in my chest as I
CHARLOTTE'S POVI stared at Owen in confusion and he ran a hand through his hair as he took a seat beside me and held my hands.“I'm serious. Caleb found out first, then Ethan found out and he told me. That's what we were discussing that day. I know it's hard to believe but I have evidence and proof. You are the legitimate and missing daughter of the Davies.” Owen explained and I just stared at him like he was cracking a joke.“Don't you think this is a very expensive joke? What do you mean by I'm the daughter of the Davies? Like ‘The Davies’. Are you trying to mess with me right now?” I asked in annoyance as I got off the bed and Owen sighed as he stood up with me.“He's right, Charlotte.” Ethan butted in and I glanced at him in confusion.“Hold on…this isn't a prank. You're actually serious about this.” I clarified and my heart sank when they nodded in affirmation.“How is this possible? I grew up with my parents. All my childhood memories that I can recall were with them. They neve
OWEN'S POV“What was it?” I asked in confusion and he sat up as he leaned towards me.“A bulletproof.” He replied and my brows creased in confusion. What did he mean by that?“What do you mean bulletproof? How would that have saved my life?” I asked and he let out a chuckle.“Well, it saved mine. Without a second thought, I went to the store room and grabbed the only one that was available there. I remember when you told your father that it wasn't needed and that he shouldn't get it. It eventually came in handy.”“I was supposed to take it to you so that you could escape unscathed but I was too late. He already held you at gunpoint so I had no choice but to wear it under my clothes and act as your bulletproof. The first shot actually hit me. Right here.” He pointed at his lower abdomen and my eyes widened in realization.“That's why there was blood everywhere and it made my fake death even more believable. The rest of the bullets bounced off and didn't touch me. I had no idea that Bea
OWEN'S POVI stood there in shock and confusion as I looked around for Ethan's dead body. Could Caleb have taken his body with him? But there was no sign of a bloody body being dragged on the floor.“Papa!” I heard Charlotte cry out as she saw my parents lying in each other's cold arms and I pulled her to me to stop her from moving forward.“Stop looking. They're probably happy where they are now. They died in each other's arms, that's probably what they wanted.” I said softly as I wiped the lone tear that trailed down my cheeks.“I need to find Ethan's body. He was just here when I left…” My voice trailed off when Roselia burst into a loud cry and crouched on the floor.“Where is he? At least let me tell him goodbye! What did you do to his body?” She yelled at no one in particular and my heart clenched in pain as I walked up to her side.I crouched down and hugged her to comfort her and I relaxed a bit when she wrapped her arms around me and wept like a child.I looked up at Charlott
OWEN'S POV“Ethan!”My eyes flung open in an instant and I groaned when I felt pain in my lower abdomen. I was alive. I made it out alive. But they didn't…“Owen! You're awake.” I heard Charlotte's voice call out to me and I turned my head to see her pretty face show up beside me and she held my hand tightly.“I told you I'll be fine. I always keep my promises, princess.” I said weakly with a faint smile and she helped me sit up, worry evident on her face as my face twisted in pain.“I have to go check on them… I need to see if they're really dead… I-”“No, Owen. You'll stay here and heal. I'll go and check up on them. I haven't told Rose anything about it yet. You have to rest.” She pleaded but I shook my head strongly.“We can't hide it from her forever. We have to tell her now.” I said.“Tell me what?” I heard Roselia say as she walked in with a basket of fruits and Charlotte had a look of panic on her face.“There's something I have to tell you,” I said as I struggled to stand up
CHARLOTTE'S POVI couldn't stop the tears from falling down my face as I watched my husband get wheeled into the operating room. He had held my hand firmly even though he was unconscious before the nurses detached our hands and took him in.I pulled my hair in despair as I sat down and stared at the floor. If what Caleb said was true, then that means… Ethan and Beatrice were dead. How would I tell this to Roselia? They were supposed to get married soon-I burst into tears as the thought of everything made my heart clench in pain. Caleb had been arrested by the police but it wasn't enough. He has to die too.My phone was shattered in Caleb's house and I had no way of reaching out to anyone. I couldn't leave the hospital since I had to be by Owen's side whenever he woke up.I knew Roselia's digits by heart but could I actually bring myself to call her? What would I tell her? How would I break the news to her?Would I tell her: “Oh, hey, your husband-to-be died while trying to save my hu
