The vehicle came to an abrupt stop in front of a towering mansion—just as grand as it was intimidating.

I stepped out of the car, my breath caught in my chest as I took in the sight before me. How had the boy who grew up in the same neighborhood as me ended up owning all of this? How could he have lied to me… about everything?

Matteo stepped out right behind me, adjusting his suit.

"This will be your new home. And from now on, you are a Salvatore."

I didn’t have time to respond.

The first gunshot rang out like thunder, shattering the silence of the night.

My body reacted before my mind, instinctively ducking. My wedding dress got caught on one of the gate’s metal bars, keeping me from running.

Another shot.

I felt a strong tug, Matteo.

He dragged me inside the property, his muscular body acting as a shield in front of me. I could barely breathe.

More gunshots. Shattering glass. Muffled screams.

Matteo drew his gun from his waist in one swift, precise motion. His dark eyes, now cold as

They're desperate," Luigi replies, his deep voice thoughtful. He leans forward, taking a cigar from his hand, and the scent of smoke blends with the tension in the air. I couldn't stand him, but if it was necessary to protect Lily, I would deal with it.The office door creaks open, and Paolo steps in, his expression heavy with urgency."Boss," he begins, his voice firm but unable to hide his concern. "I just got word from our informants. The Russians… they want something."I turn to him, my body tensing. "What do they want, Paolo?"He looks at me before dropping the bombshell. "They want your wife. If you hand her over, they'll call off the war."The air grows thick, the tension spreading through the room like wildfire. I stare at Paolo, trying to process his words, but I already know the truth. This was a provocation, a move by the

Lily MontgomeryI woke up with a terrible headache.I stared at the ceiling. Yes, it was real. I was actually married, and this wasn’t just a horrible nightmare.I glanced at my phone screen and rolled my eyes."You need to come with me. You have thirty minutes to get ready. Don't be late."Jerk. Even through text, he managed to be an asshole.I tossed the phone onto the bed and took a deep breath. I couldn’t believe I was living a life where I had to obey Matteo Salvatore. The same Matteo who once made me promises and now gave me orders like I was just another piece in his dirty game.I walked to the closet and grabbed anything that looked comfortable. But before I could finish getting dressed, my phone vibrated again."Twenty minutes.""He has to be kidding."I put on a black long-sleeved shirt and a pair of fitted jeans. Tying my hair up in a ponytail, I threw on a light jacket. I had no intention of impressing him. He could choke on my bad mood along with his own arrogance. As soo

My heart pounded against my chest, and my breath caught in my throat. Had I heard that right? A Russian mobster wanted me? But why? What was Matteo hiding? My eyes darted to him, searching for answers in his cold, impassive expression."What did he mean by that, Matteo?" My voice was low, but filled with fury.He didn’t answer right away. Instead, he swirled the wine in his glass, as if he hadn’t just heard something completely alarming. He kept talking with the men while I stared at him. They were discussing business—guns, drugs, and other things. Now I understood why he was so rich. Finally, we left the table, and I took a deep breath, dragging him to a corner of the restaurant."Matteo!" My patience snapped. "These mobsters want me? Why? What are you hiding from me?"He locked eyes with me. There was something dangerous in them. A silent warning. "Lily, now and here is not the time.""Now is exactly the time! You dragged me into this life, made me your wife against my will, and now

Matteo Salvatore "We're spending the night here," I said as I parked in front of my other property.I kept this house for situations like this. If those men were after us, they would definitely stake out the mansion. We always had to be smarter than our enemies."Are we safe here?" Lily stepped out of the car, looking around nervously."The doors are reinforced. The whole house is," I replied, closing the car door and scanning my fingerprint to unlock the front entrance.Lily took a few steps behind me, her breathing heavy."Tell me what's going on. I deserve an explanation."I sighed, running a hand through my hair. I knew she truly deserved to understand the danger we were in."Follow me."I led her up the stairs that opened directly onto the terrace. The cold wind bit at my skin as I leaned against the railing, overlooking the exclusive view of the Hamptons in New York."The view is spectacular," she said, sitting beside me.For a moment, it felt like we were just that same young

Lily MontgomeryI couldn’t give in to Matteo Salvatore. It would be a mistake—one I might, or rather, would definitely regret.“I think it’s better if we don’t,” I sighed, my voice trembling with indecision.“Nothing’s stopping us, Lily.” He looked at me with intensity. “Will you ever trust me again?”I took a deep breath, feeling the cold night air mix with the heat he stirred inside me.“I don’t know…” I whispered, staring at the stars as if they could give me the answer my heart was too afraid to admit. But as much as I wanted to pull away, there was something about Matteo that kept drawing me in. Something raw, primal, magnetic. With him, every part of me lit up—as if the world outside ceased to exist. As if he were the only safe place... and at the same time, the most dangerous.Ignoring everything my mind screamed at me, I shoved his chest hard, pinning him against the wall. Our lips crashed together with urgency, fueled by years of denial, buried pain, and emotions that never t

Matteo Salvatore"I have something to take care of."That’s all I said when I left Lily at the mansion. I didn’t look back. The truth? I couldn’t.What I was about to do... wasn’t something I wanted her to know. At least not yet. With every step I took, my stomach twisted more and more. I hated going there. Hated even more that she still had some kind of power over me, even after everything she’d done. But this was urgent. Something that could change everything.I got into the car, adjusted the collar of my blazer, and took a deep breath."Where to, Mr. Salvatore?" the driver asked."12th Street. Mirano Building. Cover the plate."He nodded. No questions. No expression. As the car moved through the streets of Manhattan, Lily’s eyes from that morning replayed in my mind. She looked different. Confused. Fragile. And me… I was cold. She felt it. I knew she did.But if she knew where I was going now, maybe she’d look at me with pure disgust. The elevator stopped on the 15th floor. The hal

Lily MontgomeryAnger consumed me.I knew I shouldn't have trusted Matteo. I gave myself to him last night—completely—in a way I never thought I would with anyone else. And he was… a liar. A bastard. But the stupidity was mine.My late mother always said, "If someone does it once, they’ll do it again."And if Matteo had abandoned me once when we were engaged, he wasn’t going to change now."You followed me?" I asked, slamming the photos down on the table. "What is this, Matteo? How long have you been doing this?"He took a step forward, his expression tense, but said nothing. His silence only made me angrier."Did you have cameras everywhere? Did you send someone to follow me? Were you watching me like I was what? A criminal? Or was it just your little game—watching me from afar and getting some twisted pleasure out of it?""It wasn’t like that," he murmured, his dark eyes locked on mine."Then what was it? Explain it to me!" my voice rose, trembling with pain. "Because this..." I poin

Lily MontgomeryThe silence inside that car made me nauseous.Everything was blending together. The memories of the night before, that pregnant woman claiming to be carrying Matteo’s child... it was all consuming me.Every few seconds, I looked in the rearview mirror to check if I was being followed. When I arrived, I parked the car. The cold wind burned my throat, so I adjusted my jacket. The security guard stopped me at the entrance."Mrs. Salvatore, what are you doing here at this hour?" he asked, opening the automatic gate to let me in."Montgomery," I murmured. "That’s my real last name. I need to speak to Mr. Romano.""I'm afraid he's asleep, ma'am, but I'll inform the staff."I waited on the porch, staring at the front of the house. My hands brushed over the worn wood of the hill supporting the mansion as I imagined my mother in this place. What had she gone through to keep me alive?Maybe that’s why she was so harsh with me—because she believed I was the result of the man who

The silence in the room was profound, filled only by the soft sound of my son's breathing. Leonardo was in my arms, and the warmth of his little body gave me a sense of peace I had never known before. He was feeding calmly, and as I looked at him, it was impossible not to think about how much my life had changed. Each beat of my heart felt lighter, stronger, as if I was finally beginning to live what was meant to be mine.I was breastfeeding my son, the little miracle I had dreamed of so much, the one I fought so hard to protect. He looked at me with his curious eyes, and I smiled, gently stroking his little head with my fingers. This was my world now. Nothing else mattered but him, the promise I made to myself to protect him at all costs. Everything I went through wouldn’t mean anything if I couldn’t give him a future without fear, without the shadows of the past. The door opened with a slight creak, and I didn’t need to look to know who it was. Matteo entered quietly, his presence a

The first cry of the baby cut through the night like a distant echo, but full of life. I couldn’t believe it. He was here. Our son. I had given birth in the middle of a war zone, in an improvised, dark warehouse, but the truth was that he was here, in my arms. I was exhausted, my body aching, but nothing else mattered now."You did it, Lily," Sasha whispered, also exhausted, as she adjusted the baby to my chest. "You brought him into the world."I looked at the small being in my arms, still in shock from what had just happened. The blood, the pain, the exhaustion... it all felt distant now. He was here. Our son. So fragile, yet so strong at the same time.He moved his tiny fingers, and as if he knew I was watching, he opened his eyes. Bright eyes, fixed on me. My eyes. My son.I was living what felt like a dream and, at the same time, a nightmare. The war was still out there, but I felt that, at that moment, the whole world had stopped. Nothing else mattered except him. The son I neve

The sound of the car flipping echoed through the night, a piercing crash that shattered the silence of the road. I accelerated, but the vehicle in front of me didn’t slow down, growing closer, the terror becoming more real by the second. When the last car turned the corner, its tires screaming in protest, I knew something was wrong. There was no time to wait anymore. The chase was no longer just about the truth. It was about Lily. And she was in danger. The phone vibrated on the back seat. A message from Sasha.“It’s happening. Lily’s in danger. Full force.”Panic gripped me instantly. Whatever had happened, I knew Andrei wouldn’t stop. He would never stop until he saw everyone who challenged him destroyed. The road seemed like a straight line to hell. I could see the last curve before I saw Lily’s car flying through the air. It was all I needed to understand what was happening. Lily was there, in the line of fire.“No, Lily, no,” I whispered, gripping the steering wheel.I placed my

Lily MontgomeryI took the last sip of coffee when I finished writing the letter. Each word seemed heavier than the one before, as if I were stitching a new identity for myself. The tarnished name, the murder accusation, the pain of everything I had been through... It was all about to be exposed. But the truth, as always, came at a price. And I knew it wouldn't be easy.In front of me, the evidence was spread out on the table—irrefutable documents, transcripts, contracts, Andrei Antonov's signature, and the involvement of the American senator. It was a key piece, but also a target. The shield I needed to protect myself also put me in the line of fire. I picked up the letter, my gaze fixed on the words I had written: "To the press, Today, at last, the truth will come to light. I, Lily Montgomery, was falsely accused of the death of my father, Luigi Romano. With the evidence now in hand, it is my duty to ensure that the truth is heard, without distortion or lies. I was not the one who c

Matteo Salvatore The night was loaded, like the barrel of a gun ready to fire.Fog crept between the old buildings of Jersey’s industrial port, where the meeting was set to take place. Russian mobsters, Italians, and a traitor with Antonov blood — all about to seal a pact.Dimitri stood beside me. Dark clothes, unshaven, eyes of a man who had buried more friends than he cared to count. We didn’t fully trust each other, but for Lily... we’d do anything.“You know this place?” I asked quietly.“I know every damn tile on this dock. I’ve killed men here. Almost died too.”“Great. Nostalgic.”“Focus, Salvatore. If we slip up tonight, there won’t be a second chance.”The warehouse was lit by cold fluorescent lights, two heavily armed guards at the entrance. We posed as smugglers from Poland, with fake documents and faces hidden beneath caps and scarves. The code was given. They let us in.Inside, the air was thick with cigar smoke and tension. Several men surrounded a long makeshift table

Lily MontgomeryThe rain fell in a fine mist over New York as I returned to the base. It wasn’t the same city it had been when all of this began. Now, every street seemed to hide a shadow, every alley, an informant. Lily was safe — for now. But nothing, absolutely nothing, had been resolved. The evidence I had handed her burned in my coat pockets like dynamite ready to explode. We knew the truth. We knew Andrei was behind Luigi’s fall, that he had orchestrated every move, every lie. But knowing wasn’t enough. We had to act.I stepped into the house that now served as Lily’s refuge. Renovated and guarded, it was a hideout disguised as a home, out of reach from the police and the eyes of the world. Lily was still considered a fugitive, and the last thing we could afford was to expose her.Paolo and Alessandra were in the map room, studying escape routes and potential strike points."Where’s Lily?" I asked, taking off my coat."In the war room. She’s with Dimitri," Alessandra replied. "T

The car moved silently along the dirt road cutting through the countryside, surrounded by tall trees and a low fog that looked like it came straight out of an old movie. Matteo drove with one hand, the other resting on my thigh, as if to remind me that we were still here. Together.“He’s going to test you,” I said, staring out the window. “He’ll provoke you. And if you respond, the war starts right there.”“He’s not the first father of a woman who’s hated me, ragazza,” Matteo replied with a crooked smile. “But maybe the first who commands a private army.”I frowned.“And who’s the other woman you had?”“I was joking, darling.”“He’s my grandfather. And if I love you, he’ll like you.”“And you trust him?” Matteo raised his eyebrows. “Even though his son set you up, and he faked his death for years, never reaching out to your mother?”It took me a moment to answer. Not because I wasn’t sure — but because the answer was deeper than simple words could express.“Yes, I trust him. He saved

The smell of coffee filled the kitchen like an old memory. Strong, bitter, comforting.Matteo was leaning against the doorframe, his hair still messy, shirt unbuttoned, and that look in his eyes—lighter, maybe... but only on the outside. Inside, I knew he still carried it all.I placed the cup on the table and slowly sat down, one hand resting instinctively on my belly. The baby moved, as if sensing the calm. Or maybe... knowing that his father was near.“There’s butter in the top cabinet,” I said, and he gave me a sideways smile, walking over with slow steps.“You’re telling me to get stuff in your kitchen?”“In my house. And yes. I’m in charge here.”Matteo let out a low laugh, grabbed the butter, and sat across from me.The silence between us wasn’t uncomfortable. It was heavy. Like we were both waiting for the other to break the peace before returning to reality.Because we both knew... what we had was beautiful. But everything outside of it… was still ugly. With the cup in my han

Her muscles froze for a second... and then she let go.She pulled back, panting, her eyes full of panic.“I’m sorry… God… I—” She covered her face with both hands. “I thought—”“It’s okay.” I adjusted myself on the bed, rubbing my neck. “You were alone for a long time.”She didn’t answer. Just sat at the edge of the bed, like she was still trying to convince her body it was finally safe.“You’ve really changed, huh?” I murmured, trying to soften things, but it didn’t come out the way I meant.“Yes,” she said, still not looking at
