Chapter 201

As Vivienne rang the doorbell, an elderly couple opened it. The woman’s face was streaked with tears.

"Who are you looking for, miss?" asked the old man.

"I need to see your son," Vivienne said, stepping into the cluttered home.

Seeing Vivienne’s elegant attire, the woman hastily made way. "Son, a lady’s here to see you."

A loud voice from the bedroom boomed. "Who dares to bother me? If she's got no money, tell her to scram!"

The voice belonged to a haggard man who looked surprised upon seeing Vivienne. "Ms. Kerrigan?"

Vivienne looked at the elderly couple.

"Could you give us a moment? I need to speak with Alfred in private," Vivienne requested, her gentle tone leaving no room for refusal.

The elderly woman grasped Vivienne's arm tightly. "Miss, I implore you to convince my son to cease his gambling habits. Our family teeters on the edge of ruin," she pleaded tearfully, unaware that the seemingly compassionate woman before her was the one responsible for her son's downfall.
