Better Late Than Never

"Summer break is still a month away," my dad says with a pointed look, making me roll my eyes. I hate it when he gets strict.

"So what? It's only a month, Dad, we can lie and say it's an emergency trip," I offer. When it comes to school, my dad is a hard-ass. But I still have to try , "You promised. I want to go."

"Can't you wait one month?" he asks and I can tell by his face that he's in one of those strict-dad moments. What a pain in the ass.

"I don't want to be here. Zion said I have to tell you if I start to feel trapped, right? Well, I'm feeling fucking trapped again," I say and it's not exactly a lie. I'm bored. And when I'm bored is when I make the worst mistakes, "It can be a short trip if you want.”

He takes a deep breath and gets up from his seat to walk closer. He sits down on his desk to look down at me as if he’s thinking what to do.
