Katrina.
Seven Years Ago ...
Finally, it's my eighteenth birthday. I'm so excited to meet my wolf and mate!
I hope that it's my long-term boyfriend, Damien Smiths.
Everyone wanted us to be the endgame, and I've always been wishing that he will be my mate.
Both of our families support each other.
Once I become the mate of the future Alpha of Hawthornpack, I'll become his luna and serve the pack.
"I really appreciate you coming, Mr. Smiths," my mother said as she shook hands with Damien's father and turned to give Lily Smiths, the woman next to him, a cheek kiss.
Damien came over and slapped my butt cheeks lightly. I let out a giggle, in which both of our parents turned our heads because of it, so I cleared my throat and tiptoed.
My mother's eyebrows raised because of my behavior. Oh no, that's a clue that I'm misbehaving.
She has been training me to be the refined and ideal Luna of the Hawthornpack.
I could already hear her reprimands in my head.
So, I made some excuse to remove myself from the scene, together with my boyfriend.
"Thank you for attending my party, Mr. and Mrs. Smiths. If you excuse us and Damien..."
I bowed my head a little and snaked my arms around Damien.
Before we turn our heels away from them, my mother said. "Don't drink tonight, Katrina. Damien? Please be on guard with her."
"Aye aye, captain!" Damien smiled at my mother and made a salute gesture with his hand.
"Dad," I bid goodbye to my father, but he just nodded at me. He was now talking with Damien's dad regarding their merging of companies once Damien and I became married.
As we got away from our parents, I heard Damien whispering at me. "So, where are we going, my beautiful wife?"
I grin at him. "Just getting out of there. I hate my mom's nagging about, 'Oh! You have to become like this and that. Don't do this and that. Nyeh, nyeh!'" I even made a face in front of Damien, and he burst out into laughter.
"Come on, babe. Your mother just wants the best of you."
"I know right? But she is so strict and suffocating sometimes! It's my birthday! Can't she have a day off of lecturing me? Urgh!"
Damien sighed and pulled me into a hug. "Aww, my baby is frustrated. Will a hug can cure you?"
I melted into his arms and sighed. "Yeah. Thank you very much."
"Oh well. Here comes the birthday girl and her oh-so-loving boyfriend!"
Daphne arrived and brought me a gift. My eyes sparkled when I saw her, and I immediately hugged her.
"Nat! You arrived on time!"
"Yeah, of course. It's your special day," I heard her whispering while we were hugging.
"Daphne, you're hugging my girlfriend too much!"
I pulled out of Daphne's tight hug and saw her rolling her eyes at Damien.
"So possessive, Damien! Can't you give me a second to greet my best friend a happy birthday?"
Damien grins at her. "Not too touchy like that."
Daphne rolled her eyes again at him. "Oh, come on! You're still believing those rumors?"
Inside my head, I was laughing because apparently, there were rumors in our school that she was kissing a girl, making Damien paranoid like this.
Damien gave Daphne a middle finger and greeted Daphne's brother who was coming behind her.
I exited the scene as I let him have fun with his friends on the table.
I felt the overwhelming emotions inside me.
The sun was almost setting down, and I still couldn't feel my wolf inside me.
I'm dying to meet her and my fated mate... which I am sure that it's going to be Damien.
“Drinks?” A waiter asked me but I shook my head and smiled at him.
“I can’t," I smiled at him.
He grabbed something out of his pocket.
"For you," he said when I was just staring at him and the piece of paper.
Grabbing the paper, I curiously read my birthday message of me. The sender also wants to meet me in the garden tonight.
I let out a sarcastic laugh. "Why would the person give a piece of paper when he can just greet me in person?"
He looks at me with a blank face. I couldn't read the expression on his face, so I let out a small laugh.
"Just kidding! Thanks for this. Uhm, any clue who this came from?"
“You wouldn’t want to know. He came from HawthornHigh," he replied.
“Oh,” I whispered.
HawthornHigh is a school supported by my father wherein they offer scholarships to those lowest ranks of pack members. My father personally picks those students to get free education access, so they are indeed smart and have unique skills despite their background.
However, students from our school, Pinecrest High, hate every student of that school because of the stupid ideology of rankings in society. They believed lowly omegas didn't deserve free education.
I showed the waiter my perfect Luna smile in front of me. "So what if he came from HawthornHigh? Unlike others, I'm not immature who thinks they don't deserve free education."
He smirked as if I was making a joke. "You are the future Luna of our pack. The infamous girlfriend of Damien Smiths. Of course, you are one of them."
How should I convince this guy to believe me?
"Alright. I won't force you, then. Please tell the guy or girl who gave me this paper a warm thank you."
He grins at me, "You can say that to him in person if you want. Meet him at the garden."
He was challenging me.
I give him a small smile. "Sorry, I don't meet strangers."
His smile faded and his voice became serious. "And you had the courage to say earlier that you're not one of them."
After he said that, he immediately exited the scene.
What he said pissed me off. I brushed my hair using my fingers and was about to go to that garden when I spotted Damien wearing a waiter uniform while handing drinks to a familiar sight of the girls.
What prank is he pulling this time? Is he mascotting as a waiter?
My forehead creased when I saw the girls flirting with him on the table. Damien is friendly, but he's not the type to flirt back, and how dare those girls try to flirt with him when everyone knows who he belongs to!
I turned my heels towards their table but I suddenly paused when I felt something peculiar in my stomach.
I smell something different. It was the first time I was captivated by his scent. It was warm and earthy, like the rich soil of the forest after a fresh rain, grounding and reassuring.
I inhaled deeply, letting the layers of his scent fill me with a sense of warmth and belonging.
"Mate," I growled, my voice low and possessive.
His head jerked up at the sound, and when our eyes met, his eyes widened in shock, rendering him momentarily frozen in place.
Without hesitation, I strode toward him, gripping his hand firmly to pull him away from the crowd.
The last thing we needed was to create a scene or attract unwanted attention.
I didn't stop until we reached a secluded, shady spot, in the garden. Only then, did I let out a hearty laugh; shocked and happy because of the news.
"Damien... we're fated mates."
The reality of it washed over me in waves of euphoria.
The Moon Goddess had always favored me, but this?
Damien remained silent, his gaze fixed downward.
He seemed taller though. Did he take some supplements?
“Baby, did you hear what I said? I told you. We are mated to each other!” I exclaimed, my voice breaking slightly as my eyes welled up with emotion.
Gosh, my thirst for him is indescribable. I want him to touch me; to feel the rapid beating of my heart.
I want him to claim me right now!
I was about to grab his hand when he stepped back as if he was afraid of what I was going to do.
“Damien – “ I started, my voice softening with a mixture of confusion and hurt.
An unfamiliar, baritone voice cut me off. “I’m not Damien.”
My jaw fell open at his words.
What? I mouthed at him, my heart sinking with realization.
The leaves of the fake tree we stood beneath cast shifting shadows across his face, obscuring his features. He remained where he was, standing just beyond the edge of clarity. Then, with a step, he invades my personal space.
I gasped.
He looks like my boyfriend but he wasn’t my boyfriend.
It was evident in his eyes. His drooping green ocean eyes make me think of the deep forest. His eyes were more mysterious and deeper than Damien's lively ones. I was at a loss for words as I looked at him.
"I apologize, but could you please say it again?" I questioned, startled by the exchange we had.
"I am not your boyfriend," he restated his previous statement. He put both of his hands in his pocket, as I noticed.
The only thing that comes out of my mouth is "Oh."
"Yes," he pressed a thin line on his lips and looked away.
"I understand. My deepest apologies."
I took a step backward, biting my lower lip as I chuckled gently. "You look like my boyfriend."
“Yeah, I always get that phrase every time. But I’m not related to Damien,” he answered with a devilish grin.
I cleared my throat, scrunching my nose in confusion and disbelief.
Heaving a deep sigh, I felt my forehead crease with worry. “B-But... but we're mates. Did you feel the mate bond, too? This is ridiculous!" The realization of being mated to this stranger began to sink in, unsettling me deeply.
I could feel hysteria creeping up on me.
"Yes, I've already felt the mate bond before," the man said in an emotional voice. He looks at me like he wants to touch me, to feel me, to devour me, but he knows he can't.
My mouth dropped open as I stared at him incredulously. "No, this is a mistake! I'm not mated to you!"
I was screaming every word out of my mouth.
Shocked by the revelation, I turned away from him... until he called my name which sent shivers down my spine.
"Katrina..."
I felt dizzy when he called my name. It felt right.
Damn it! I felt so right yet so wrong in many ways.
My heart beats like crazy. I've never felt this when I'm with my boyfriend. It felt like I was betraying Damien! I wanted to cry so bad at frustration! I should get out of here!
“Don’t you want to know my name?” It wasn’t a question. It was more like a statement.
Tears started forming in my eyes, and my hand found my mouth to stop myself from crying.
No, no, no...
Damien is not my fated mate!
This stranger who looks like him is my mate... and I can't accept that!
When I didn't answer him, he continued speaking.
“I’m Archer. Archer Ellington."
Archer."I reject you as my fated mate, Archer Ellington."It feels like my heart has been stabbed by a knife multiple times when my mate, Katrina, uttered those words.She said it with determined eyes. I could feel her wolf clawing at her chest, wanting to come out, but she was fighting against the mate bond."I don't want a lowly omega like you as my mate."I hid my pain by flashing a devilish grin. "And I don't want my mate to be a fucking hypocrite, too."She swallowed a lump in her throat as she looked away from me. "You already know... that I'm going to marry Damien Smiths. I will be the future Luna of the pack.""Everyone knows, baby. Your love story is flashed in every magazine, billboards, and on TV like a fucking cliche movie." I took a step forward, while she was trying to control her thirst at me.I can feel it, too.Her wolf wants my wolf. She was hungry for me; like she wants to fuck me.When I found out that Katrina, the popular and beautiful Katrina, was my fated mate;
Katrina. The past few days after my 18th birthday party, I got sick. It wasn't the normal case as the family physician has told me. He couldn't diagnose why I was sick. "This could be something related to your wolf. You already turned eighteen. Have you met her?" "My wolf?" I asked the doctor, my hands fell numb at my side. "Yes, your wolf." I looked away from him and to my mother and father who were worried sick at me. "Not yet," I replied and sighed. The family physician prescribed another medicine and told my parents to observe my behavior. Later that night, I was having a bad dream about Archer, my mate, when I woke up feeling sick and throwing up again. I didn't notice that I was growling when my mother came inside my room. She turned on the lights and touched my forehead. "You're having a fever. I thought you were doing well, honey..." her voice sounded so worried. I hold my mother's hand to feel her warmth. Tears started escaping from my eyes as I looked at her. "Mom,
Archer.I flipped over the whore and spit on my hand. She let out a loud moan as I penetrated inside her throbbing pussy. Grabbing her hair, I move in my own rhythm to my pleasure, not minding her screams and agony as I fuck her hard and rough. I kissed and licked her neck as I rubbed her clit, letting my fingers get wet with the whore's juices. It gives me pleasure when I am dominating the bed; looking at the stranger's face with pleasure and wanting for more. "Please... Archer, fuck me like a beast!" She was too loud for my liking. It turned me off, so I stopped and let out a sigh beside her. "Wait, w-wait, what's wrong?!" The woman asked me, grabbing the sheets on the bed as she touched my shoulder. I push her hand on me, stand up, and grab my jeans on the floor. "Just get out, Anna." She looked offended by what I said. "My name's Andy, you playboy!" she hissed and looks at me irritatingly.I shrugged off and continued wearing my clothes that were scattered on the floor. I
Katrina.I hated myself for acting like this. Why was my heart beating so fast? It must be the proximity between me and Archer inside this small room.We almost got busted. I managed to get out after I couldn't hear Daphne's voice outside. But when I turned to the right side of the hallway, I almost bumped my shoulder into her."Where did you go?" she asked, looking at me suspiciously. I tried to fix my hair and white-buttoned shirt and flashed my perfect smile at her. "Just in the comfort room. Let's go?"I clung to her arm and walked towards my friends. I still wasn't feeling well, but the new family doctor was good. He gave me painkillers to stop and numb the pain that was affecting my wolf. When we arrived in the school garden, I saw Damien and Caleb laughing like crazy while holding the collar of a familiar boy. It was the waiter, whom I think is Archer's friend.I balled my fists at my sides in anger, knowing fully well that they were up to no good. But I put on a fake smile and
I felt like I was going crazy, holding in the secret about what I found in Damien's room. So, I called Daphne, and soon enough, we were in her room. As I poured out the details of what had happened, her eyes widened in shock."Did you tell Damien about this?" she asked, gripping my hands tightly."Not yet. He bolted out of the room because he was angry at me.""Jerk! You told him to stop, and he got angry? And now you found a negative pregnancy test on his desk? There's definitely something going on. You should confront him about it, Katrina."I nodded, wiping away my tears. "I will.""Hush, don't cry now. It'll make you ugly." We both burst into laughter, the tension easing just a bit.To cheer me up, Daphne invited me to a party. She didn't want me moping in her room all night over a boy. When we arrived, I spotted Damien and Caleb, holding their red cups, drinking and laughing at some joke their friend had just told. My heart clenched, but I straightened up, ready to face him.---H
I stood in front of Archer's apartment door for what felt like an eternity. His bike was parked outside, a clear sign he was home."Why am I even here?" I muttered to myself, hesitating before raising my hand to knock. The door suddenly flew open.I nearly shrieked at the sight of him, shirtless, with only a towel draped around his waist. He looked serious as he saw me. "Come inside," he whispered, grabbing my wrist and checking something outside before locking the door."Your mother... is she here?" I asked. He nodded. "No questions anymore, please.""O-Okay..." I coughed, glancing around his apartment. It was small but clean and neat."What changed your mind?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. He leaned against the door frame of his room, and I hated how hot I found him at that moment.Swallowing the lump in my throat, I stammered, "I could use your comfort. In bed, obviously."Goddess, what am I even saying?!"Look, I'm so nervous right now. Can we just get down to busine
My parents had just returned from their business trip when they saw the viral video of Damien trying to win me back. In the video, I walked out of the hallway without saying a word after Damien attempted to serenade me."Katrina, I'm confused," my mother began, her voice calm and nurturing. "I thought you and Damien were doing well. You were so in love with each other. What happened?" One of our maids pushed a cart and offered my mother tea as we sat in the living room. I could hear my father in his office, signing papers for our pack."Katrina?"I let out a deep sigh before facing my mother. "He cheated on me."I heard an audible gasp from the maids who were clearly eavesdropping. My mother stood up, grabbed my wrist, and led me to her office, locking the door behind us."What did you just say?" she demanded, her voice rising."I said Damien cheated on me," I repeated. She crossed her arms over her chest. "I will never believe that. Did you hear his side of the story?"My brows furro
Archer.I knew Katrina left home even though she didn't admit it; the duffel bag was a dead giveaway. As I held her in my arms, I felt Berk, my wolf, talking to me. It was convenient being able to speak to him without saying it out loud."Get her! I want her!" he demanded."We already got her, Berk. What more do you want?" I replied."We have to claim her! You stupid fool didn't mark her that night, did you?"I bit my lower lip, resisting the urge to punch my wolf. "Are you crazy? Of course we shouldn't! Everyone in the pack will know she's mine.""She's yours in the first place! Get her!" he went berserk."What's so special about her?" I hissed at Berk, unable to understand his obsession. "She's a hypocrite, a rich girl, and a spoiled brat!""I like her scent. It's addicting. She shouldn't be touched by any other man! I can feel many of us want to claim her, too," Berk said seriously. I heaved a deep sigh and shut off my mind towards him."We're here," I announced to Katrina, setting
Katrina.“They wouldn’t just leave. They wouldn’t…” Archer’s voice was barely audible, as if he couldn’t quite believe the words himself. His eyes were fixed ahead, lost in thoughts I couldn’t reach.I stepped closer, trying to offer some comfort, but he moved away, the distance between us growing. “I need to go and see our house,” he muttered, his voice strained.“I’ll go with you,” I said softly, knowing he didn’t have to face this alone. The drive to the Madsun Pack was heavy with silence. Archer sat beside me, stiff, his gaze locked on the passing trees but seeing none of them. I wanted to say something, but the weight of his past hung too thick between us.When we arrived, the house looked like it had been forgotten by time. Rusted metal lined the once-sturdy fence, and weeds choked the front yard. The windows, now dark and cracked, seemed to stare at us like empty eyes. I felt a chill crawl up my spine. Archer’s steps faltered as we approached, his breath coming in short, uneve
The thumbs-up from Katrina made me feel like I could breathe again, even in a place like this. It was such a small thing, really, but damn, it was like she was telling me without words, "You've got this." I smiled—couldn’t help it—and gave her a quick nod before the guards led me back inside. The sound of the doors slamming shut behind me was usually like nails in my brain, but today? Today, it didn’t feel as heavy. The cafeteria was its usual mess of noise and clattering trays. I grabbed my food—if you could call it that—and found a seat. Barely a minute in, and Lucifer leaned over, grinning like he’d just won the lottery.“Wow, your lawyer looks young and she’s good at handling your case! I’m so envious of you!”I chuckled, shaking my head, but before I could say anything, another guy, Damon, piped up.“I heard she’s the one who paid off the rest of your fees too. Must be nice, huh?”“Yeah, guess I got lucky.” I tried to sound casual, but it was more than luck. That girl really c
Archer.Years rotting in prison had changed me. The first week tasted like hell. I’d heard the rumors—living with real criminals wouldn’t be easy, and they were right. The moment they found out my sentence had been reduced to ten years, it became a game of survival. They didn’t like it. They didn’t like me.I was always trapped in some dark, secluded corner. The punches came in waves, followed by bruises so deep they felt permanent. My body almost gave out after my regular trips in and out of the prison clinic. That was the first few weeks, though—back when I still cared about my fate. But now? Now they treated me like a king. After I killed their Alpha in a duel, no one dared to touch me. Respect came swift, like blood flowing from a fresh wound. No one visited me, though. Not once. Trial after trial, I waited, hoping—maybe—Alpha Steven or Damien would come, give me a chance to break their faces, even for a moment. Just once.So when the guard stopped by, face hidden under his robe
“Let me explain myself, Katrina!” I stared at Damien, my chest tight with anger, disbelief swirling in my head. He was kneeling in front of me, like that would fix everything. Like his regret would magically erase the hell he put Archer through.“It was my fault!" Damien's voice cracked. "I let my father do it because it’s for my welfare! I know it was selfish to put Archer in prison instead of me.”My heart pounded. He looked at me like he was about to shatter, but I didn’t care. My blood boiled. Archer had suffered because of this—because of him."I took advantage of our similar face and body!" he confessed, his words spilling out in desperation. "But you know what’s more fucked up?! That fucking bastard is my brother! He’s my father’s missing biological son, Katrina. We’re twins!”I froze. My brain couldn’t process what he was saying fast enough. "What...?" My voice barely came out as a whisper. "Archer is... what?"“Alpha Steven’s son. My twin,” he repeated, his head hanging low
“This is insane! How are you not in prison?!” My voice trembled, but I shoved down the fear, stepping forward, eyes narrowing. “I know Alpha Steven can pull strings, but I saw you on the TV. There’s no way you walked out of that. What did you do, hire a doppelganger?!”Damien’s smirk was infuriating. He leaned in closer, too close, his breath hot against my face. His eyes gleamed, wild and untethered, like a man unraveling at the seams. “You were right,” he said, his voice dripping with smug satisfaction. My heart pounded, and my fists clenched at my sides. His presence felt suffocating, but I held my ground. The air between us crackled with tension. He knew exactly how to push me, how to make me question everything. But I wasn’t going to let him win.“Fuck you!” I spat, voice rising. “You don’t feel any shame? No guilt for what you did?”"You think I haven’t felt guilt?" His voice cracked, an edge of hysteria creeping in. "Since I’ve been hiding in the U.S., I haven't slept right! Ev
Katrina.“We’re officially bad blood with the Smiths family,” my father’s voice boomed through the room, the words chilling me to my core. “Anyone caught dealing with them... will be punished by me.”I stood at the back, arms crossed, trying to ignore the heavy tension swirling around the mansion. My father’s fury was palpable, his eyes still dark with rage from the attack. The memory of him lying there, blood pooling on the ground after being struck in the head, was still too fresh. And for what? For helping Archer. The Smiths wouldn’t get away with this. Not anymore.I gripped my phone tighter, pacing the length of my room, my mind racing. Damien and Daphne. They had to be behind this. My gut screamed at me that Archer was with them—whether he wanted to be or not.I pressed the call button again, my hands shaking with a mix of fear and frustration. Ring. Ring. Straight to voicemail. Again.“Come on, Daphne. Pick up.” My voice cracked, and I cursed under my breath.I needed answers.
To hear that I am Alpha Steven’s biological son is insane.I don’t fucking believe him. Damien is my brother? No way. He’s a murderer. He insisted on joining a fucking illegal street race, and it killed an innocent woman. She had a baby in her cart. I didn’t know who they were, but I felt sorry for her family. And now I’m the one paying for his crime.I had no choice. I had to act like Damien in prison. It was the only way to keep the pack from falling apart, but it felt like I was the one falling to pieces. He held me captive, threw me into this secluded room with nothing but white walls. They’d already forced me into an orange jumpsuit, marking me as a prisoner. And slowly, I was losing it.“This is fucking crazy. Come on, Arch. Think about something!” I muttered, pacing back and forth. The room felt like it was closing in, my footsteps echoing off the walls like a taunt. Then the door creaked open, and there he stood. Damien. My pulse spiked. All the anger, the frustration, the g
Archer.I woke up to the taste of iron in my mouth, blinking against the glare of a single bare bulb hanging overhead. My wrists were tied tight behind me, cutting into my skin as the chair creaked beneath my weight. I was abducted. It has been seven days already after our supposed date with Katrina. These men only gave me food and water. I didn’t know what they want. Escaping wasn’t the best option either because I want to know who’s their fucking leader.“Well, well, look who decided to join us.” It didn’t take long for me to recognize one of the voices in the background. The leader stepped into the light. He yanked off his ski mask, revealing a face I’d punched more times than I cared to count. The same guy from the convenience store—one of the drunk idiots who thought they could hurt Katrina. He smiled like he was on top of the world.“You think you’re a fucking Alpha now, huh?” He leaned in, his breath hot and rancid. “You couldn’t beat us then, and you sure as hell can’t now.
It had been a week since Archer ditched our date night. For the first three days, I was furious—angry even. But as the days passed, and still no texts or calls from him, my anger shifted into something else—worry. My thoughts were preoccupied with what happened with Damien, too. Every channel, every article—it was all about Damien. His name plastered on the screen, tied to an illegal street car race. My heart dropped when I read about the crash. An innocent woman and her child... gone. I was angry at him, furious for putting himself in that situation. For making that choice. The case was still ongoing. Alpha Steven hadn’t held a press conference yet, and everything just felt... off.I was sitting in the living room, my eyes glued to the TV as the reporter droned on about the details. My mother, clearly tired of it, grabbed the remote and turned the screen off with a click.“If anyone asks if you’re involved with Damien, tell them you’ve cut him off,” she said sharply, not looking at m
