Michael.

I yawned as I steered my car into the underground parking lot, hoping that I was at the right place or rather, in the right mind. After playing hooky for an hour, I decided to give the employees a break and actually come to this lousy party. The booze must be worth it or else someone's going to die tonight.

Suddenly receiving an email from my father after twelve years, requesting for me to take over his company, gave my peaceful life a complete one-eighty degree flip.

Although I was an Accounts graduate, my whole life has been centered on photography. The thing that shocked me the most wasn't the request in it but the person who sent it. My father never had much interest in me. I thought that he'd give the company to my goody-two-shoes younger brother who, last time I checked, was such a devoted ass kisser.

I looked around and noticing that nobody was there, I slowed my car down before looking into the compartment under the radio for my pack of gum. I suddenly heard a loud thump and my head instantly shot up, my eyes meeting a strange pair of mismatched eyes. One was a beautiful ocean blue and the other was a soft emerald green.

It was a short, young woman and she was a mess. She quickly regained her composure after taking a few steps back and continued her speed walk.

Without much thought, I turned off the engine and got out of my car. I quickly caught up to her and grabbed her by the elbow. "What the hell was that? A suicide attempt!?" I hissed as she turned to face me. "If you want to die so badly, choose someone else's car."

"I'm so sorry. My m-mind was occupied and I didn't think I'd-" She brought her hands up to her face as she burst into tears. "I'm sorry."

My eyes widened in surprise. "Hey now, I'm sorry. I admit that my tone was a little harsh but you don't have to cry about it."

"It's not-" she sniffed as she wiped her hands on her jeans. "It's just.... Oh God, I'm being so pathetic right now. I'm sorry."

"Could you quit apologising?" I gave her arm a slight tug. "I could take you for a drive to clear your head if you're okay with it."

She pulled her arm away. "No, thanks. My car is over there and I'm heading home right now."

I looked at her closely and hummed. "Let's take a walk around the area then."

"Sorry, sir bu-"

"This place has good security and I'm sure that I can't kill you here. If anything, you're just going to cry in your car while drowning in self-hatred."

She hesitated but nodded after a while. I was surprised that she actually agreed but a little happy nonetheless. Seeing people cry troubled me more than I liked to admit. As soon as we left the parking lot's sheltering warmth, we were engulfed by spring's cool embrace.

I glanced at the woman walking beside me. She had her arms around herself as she tried to hide the trembling of her body. I sighed and I took off my coat before throwing it at her. She looked at me with wide eyes, completely surprised by my gesture.

"Never seen a coat before? It's ninety percent cotton," I said.

"Thanks," she mumbled as she put it on.

"Uhm... So why were you crying?" I cleared my throat, hoping my question wasn't too much of a deadpan. "I understand if you don't want to tell me. After all, I'm just a stranger but after your family and friends I guess that.... I'm the next best thing?" I stated not really sure of where I was heading with this.

She hesitated again. Well, who wouldn't? I was just someone who had too much free time on my hands. "Something really embarrassing happened and I want to disappear." She sighed heavily and I could tell that she had a lot on her chest. "I don't even know how I'll be able to show my face at work tomorrow."

"What happened?" I asked after a few minutes of silence.

"My co-workers aren't the nicest people but I try my best to avoid trouble. Today, my arch nemesis just embarrassed me in front of the whole staff." She pursed her lips in irritation. "Now my hair is apricot flavoured."

I chuckled.

"It's not funny," she said with an adorable pout.

"It's a little funny." I dug my hands into the warmth of my pant's pockets. "You know, people will always find reasons to dislike someone. Even having no reason to be disliked can make you disliked by someone so, you should learn how to stand up for yourself and don't allow yourself to be pulled along by your arch nemesis."

She nodded slowly. "They don't bother to be discreet about it though. They think that I can't hear them at all."

I hummed. "Is it hard to pretend that you haven't?"

She looked at me then turned her gaze back to the ground in thought. "I never thought of that."

"Talk it out with your best friend. Women like that sort of thing, right?" I stopped and turned to face her completely. I took out my handkerchief and handed it to her. "The rain's stopped but it's still cold. Take care of yourself."

Before I knew it, we were back in the parking lot and I walked her to her car. She turned around and smiled at me. "Thank you."

I nodded, figuring that it was time for me to put the party attendants out of their misery. "I have somewhere I need to be. See you whenever."

Alexia.

The walk to my station the following Monday was the most uncomfortable thing I've ever experienced. I kept getting curious stares from people while others tried to ignore me but failed miserably. I had to force myself up from the love of my life, my bed, to come for work today. The least they could do was cut me some slack.

The secretary on the front desk told me that the new boss was already in the office with his father and I was very nervous. I never had the chance to meet him at the party and I wondered what kind of person he was. Reaching the door of Mr. Clarkson's office, I knocked on the wood as I carefully balanced two lattes on the holder.

"Come in," the usual rough voice replied and I realised just how much I would miss him when his son takes over.

"Good morning, sir. I've gotten you and your son lattes or are you in the mood for a proper breakfast?" I asked with a soft smile as I walked inside the room and put the beverages on the table. The chair across his table was empty and I resisted the urge to look around.

"That won't be necessary," Mr. Clarkson said. "Alex, please show my son around the company and be of great assistance to him as you are to me. Make sure that he gets the hang of things perfectly."

I guess that miracles do happen. He finally got my name right.

My eyes finally caught sight of the tall man standing a short distance away. His black suit beautifully held onto his slightly bulk build and his black hair was neatly gelled back. He had his back turned to me while he stared out of the windows.

"Yes, sir," I replied.

He stood up from his seat. "You can start working now, Michael, is that okay?" He asked his son but after receiving no reply, he sighed and left.

I was a little surprised by this and wondered why Michael hadn't responded, but I didn't linger on that thought. It was not my place to worry.

"Good morning, Mr. Clarkson. Do you need a tour or must I read out your schedule first?" I asked cheerfully as I approached him.

"I'm not a child, I know this place already. Read out the schedule," he demanded coldly and I was taken aback.

I paused in my steps. "W-well, since you're new, I put off your meetings until next week and this week will mainly be about you knowing more about the company. Is that agenda suitable for you?"

"Yes," he turned and I chocked on the gasp I tried to contain.

It was the same stranger who comforted me on Saturday. The chocolate brown eyes and his smooth deep voice were all too familiar. I was too occupied to notice then, but he was a very handsome man.

Letting out a small breath, I smiled at him and almost said something concerning that night when he suddenly walked passed me.

"Schedule, please," he said as he sat down on his desk and by the tone of his voice, he was getting impatient.

His indifferent attitude baffled me. It was like he was a completely different person from the gentleman I thought he was. Where was the gentleness he portrayed that night?

"Sorry," I said and cleared my throat before doing as he asked. As I read it out, I kept stealing glances at him to see if he recognized me but he didn't even look at me properly the entire time. "That's all for today," I said, closing the notepad and putting it on his desk.

"You can leave."

"Uhm...." I began nervously and he looked up from the file he was reading through.

"What?"

"Mr. Clarkson, your dad, what will he be doing now? Has he retired?"

"Why don't you ask him yourself?"

"I'm sure that he's already quite busy."

"But I'm not?" Before I could respond, he interrupted. "He's on vacation. He'll be back after a few months at another branch."

I nodded, seeing that he wasn't up for a talk, and went back to my desk. I thought that as the day went by, he'd be more relaxed but he kept up with his unfriendly attitude. I guess that night was only meaningful to me, huh?

Alexia. It was soon time for lunch and I went to get Michael something to eat. I didn't know what he liked but when I asked, he said that anything was good. Which wasn't saying much, if you ask me. I wanted to get him something that suited his tastes but the variety I was given made me nervous because of how broad it was. Michael and I had been working together for three days now and he didn't talk to me much. Apart from the greetings we exchanged in the mornings and him ordering me around, we've never really gotten to know each other at all. It troubled me that I was still new to him and him new to me. I preferred knowing everything I was allowed to know about my boss to avoid mistakes. I had just arrived from an international restaurant that sold amazing pasta and beef stew. Running errands for his father really paid off because I knew all the reliable and wonderful places for food, wine and social and business ga

Alexia. Friday finally arrived and saying that I was glad was an understatement. We finished work three hours earlier than usual and I could hear the weekend whispering my name. I had just saved the document that I was working on and leaned back into my chair with a relieved sigh. Closing my eyes, I ran my hand over my face and allowed relaxation to take over my entire being. "Don't you dare drop dead on me." I opened my eyes to see Luis walking towards me with a playful smile on her face. She had a black handbag and a few documents with her so, she must've been done with her work for the day. I smiled at her. "Don't worry. I still have a long life ahead of me." She sat at the edge of my desk. "Guess what I heard?" "What?" "It's about Saturday," she said as she gave me a stern look and the smile that graced her features was suddenly out of sight. I sat upright. "I just tripped. You know how clumsy I get sometimes." Her jaw dropped. "Seriously? You're not honest at all. Kendra,

Alexia. I squatted on the floor and pulled out my clothes from the dryer before putting them in a basket. Standing up, I put the basket on top of the dryer and walked into the kitchen. That was the last cleaning I had to do for the day and I felt extremely bored. I pored some snacks into Cookie's bowl and put it in front of her along with a bowl of water. She was given to me by my mother as a birthday present last year. My mom constantly said that I was too isolated and needed company that wasn't only Luis and Tony. Luckily, Cookie wasn't difficult to hear and her cheerful attitude never failed to put me in high spirits. My school life, wasn't so smooth sailing. Although I got good grades and had an acceptable number of friends, there were always a few stereotypes here and there. It was either them making fun of you because of your disability or them getting all sympathetic and treating you like a "special" patient. Was it so difficult to treat everybody the same? I understood and a

Micheal. "It's been a pleasure working with you," an old dark haired man with a really bushy beard said as he shook my hand. "It's been a pleasure working with you too, Mr...." "Leonard Smith," Alexia whispered to me. "Mr. Smith," I completed with a smile. "You've really inherited your father's work ethic. It's good," Leonard said. "I hope that we do business again." "Likewise." I was from attending a meeting with some business associates that my father couldn't really work with because they demanded ludicrous amounts of money at every meeting. I felt a strong sense of pride at making them come to terms with a much more agreeable profit split. This was the first business meeting that I've ever attended at Clarkson Corperation. It was scary at the beginning because I didn't know anybody and I had a feeling that most of them didn't trust me. Luckily, Alexia was with me and told me the

Alexia. I stood at the corner of Michael's office as I poured coffee into a white mug that was on top of a short mahogany table that stood at the centre of Michael's office. This office was quite large. When you walked in, you'd be met by a medium, circle shaped rug that was at the centre of the room with the table on it. His desk and file storage units were behind that and a large, potted plant stood on each corner of his work space. On the left, the entire wall was actually a window and it gave veiw to the beautiful scenery around. Hearing the door open, I looked at Michael and greeted, "Good morning, sir." "Good morning, Alex," Michael replied as he closed the door behind him. He then stood next to me and looked at the mug. "What are you doing?" "I decided to make you some coffee early, so that you could find it when you arrive." "Where's yours?" "I'll buy mine downstairs." He hummed. Alexia. The City of Venice, Italy. It's been a dream of mine to visit Italy and coming to Venice was an absolute plus. I looked at the beautiful stars that illuminated the night sky through every window we walked passed as we made our way to our rooms at the top floor of our hotel. A wide grin spread across my face as I drank in the elegance of the halls and the fancy interior. "Someone's looking pretty happy," Michael said, occupying the space on my right, and he playfully nudged my shoulder with his own. "I'm excited." I looked at him. "I've always wanted to come here but I've never had the chance." He nodded understandingly. "Then I'm glad that you got to experience this." "It's just for business anyway," I said with a longing sigh. "I don't think that I'll have the time to explore." He chuckled. "We won't be attending meetings all day and the last day is a bit of a free day." "It's still a little time for someone who has never been here," I said, a little bummed that we'd o

Alexia. Yesterday was so embarrassing and the worst way to start my first day at such a lovely place that I was looking forward to being in. After the discussion with Michael, I went back to look for my hearing aids and found them at a corner under my bed, behind the drawer. Today was a new day and I was planning on clearing Michael's name. He was right. I probably left a bad impression and this was a huge business deal for Clarkson Corp. If things didn't go our way, all the blame would be on Michael and the investors would lose their trust in him. I didn't want to be the cause of Michael's immediate downfall. Sophia's words clicked in my mind and I quickly shook them off so as to not jinx my day. I said my apologies to Mrs. Griffin and she replied with an, "Of course. I hope that's the last time you'll show such inadequacy and embarrass Michael." I simply nodded my head. A simple, "No problem," would have been fine. Today, the meeting ended much earlier and as usual, all the att

Micheal. To be completely honest, this meeting wasn't supposed to be in Venice. It was originally scheduled to be in Rome but when I found out how much Alex wanted to be here, I pulled a few strings and made things happen. For your information, Luis was a really loud chatter box. I was innocently walking passed the Marketing Department and she was telling some guy about Alex's favourite places. I wondered why the man wanted to know but I was too busy to care back then. Thinking back on yesterday's kiss, I realised that my decision on changing locations was ingenious! The atmosphere was great and everything about the day went better than I could ever imagine. Apart from getting great shots, I had Alexia in my arms and I was sure that we had the same feelings for each other. I wanted to experience that again. Her soft lips, the hesitant look in her eyes and the soft sigh that she released when I deepened the kiss. The memory sent shivers down my spine. Despite the conversation in the

She looked up at me and grinned. "Well, despite being a chatterbox, she's damn good at her work." "You're a chatterbox as well." I laughed and got the bowl from her before pouring it's contents into a baking tray. Luis and I were baking cupcakes for desert. Tonight, we were all gathering for a family dinner at my house and Luis and I decided to cook up something more refined than our everyday meals. Micheal. My eyes were heavy and I felt like I was floating in an endless, dark void. The sounds around me were muffled and my temples had a mild ache. The pain in my chest was minimized though. I could breathe better and the tightness that I felt earlier was gone. My mind drifted to what happened at the cafe. When Bianca drove that knife into me, I was shocked. Even more than that, I was scared. I didn't want to die. I didn't want to leave my family, Alexia and my unborn child behind. I could barely remember what happened after that. My memory was fuzzy and Bianca was saying something that my ears couldn't register. A part of me felt bad for her. I didn't think that she'd be pushed so much into a corner and thoughtlessly attack me. Maybe she planned it. Who knows? But I was dumb for not considering it. That woman was crazy and I hoped that wherever she was right now, she could get help. I groaned and tried to move my body but I couldn't. I had to wake up. I didn't want to die. Ale

Alexia. "I didn't expect the Head of Department to do that," Luis said with a laugh. "He doesn't look like the type." "Well, there's more to people than what meets the eye," I said before looking up at her. She was seated at the corner of my table and was telling me about how her supervisor suddenly cracked a joke that completely put her department in shock. Hearing that the joke was actually funny took me by surprise as well. Mr. Johnson, her supervisor, was known as a strict man who talked as much as he smiled. Which wasn't much. "Exactly. It makes me want to be more aware of the people around me. Maybe I should approach Grace. She's the most introverted person in the office," she pondered loudly. "Don't go around harassing your co-workers." "I'm not harassing them. It's called socializing." "Don't take it too far though." I thought for a moment and asked, "Hey, won't you be yelled at for slacking off here?" "I'm not slacking off. I've come to pay you a visit." "During work

Michael. The day gradually became hotter as the afternoon approached and I loosened my tie to allow space for breathing. I looked at my phone. It's been over a week and Bianca hadn't tried to communicate with me. Didn't Madison tell her anything? I looked at the ceiling and sighed. The private investigator, that Gabe hired, followed Bianca after she met up with some friends and found out that she was staying in an apartment on the other side of the city. I didn't want to follow her to her house but if she didn't reach out to me soon, I'd have to start considering it. The case about Alexia's apartment didn't seem to be going anywhere and I wasn't happy about that. I wasn't in a position to press charges against Bianca since I didn't have any evidence and nothing could connect her to this. I wanted to at least have a talk with her so that we could sort this out as soon as possible. I heard the door swing open and I looked up at Alexia, who had just entered my office with a red file

Michael. Click. The soft shutter of my camera registered in my ears, making me hum in appreciation. I looked at the pictures that I had been taking for a while and brought the camera back to my face to take more pictures. I smiled as I watched Alexia and Luis play in the water. They were laughing as they splashed water on each other and talked. My heart warmed up at how great the day was going and I felt fulfilled to spend so much time with these people. Taking pictures with my camera fully awoke the photographer in me and before I knew it, I couldn't put it down. I started taking pictures of the sky, the trees, the water and with consent; some strangers. I had fun and I looked at the warm sand under my feet. Closing my eyes for a moment, I basked under the sun and opened my eyes to look at anything else that I could take a photo of. "You're sucked into that camera, huh?" Tony said as he stood next to me and kept his eyes ahead. I chuckled. "It's been a while since I've taken ph

Alexia rested her head on my shoulder as she dozed off and I kept my gaze at the passing houses and pedestrians outside. Fortunately, there was nothing wrong with the baby although we were told to be careful. Alexia was also given some medication for a few days and I hoped that they would do their part. The car slowed down when we reached the front of the house and lightly tapped Alexia's cheek, making her sit up with a groan. "We're home," I said with a light chuckle as she wiped a trail of drool from her cheek. "Oh, my God, I'm sorry," she said and wiped my shoulder with the sleeve of her blazer. "I never drool. I wonder what happened today." "You're tired. Let's go inside." "Yeah." I got out of the car and offered her my hand as I helped her out. Yawning, she held my arm and we walked into the house. I looked up at Jim, who wa

You didn't do it on purpose." "I still feel bad though." I reached the bottom of the stairs and we quickly walked out of the house. The car was already parked and ready when we walked passed the doors and Michael walked to the other side of the car. Opening the door to the backseat, I put my handbag and some files on the seat before sliding into the car. I looked at Michael, who was seated next to me, and he was looking at his phone. I could see that he was impatient but he didn't express it in words. I felt guilty. It was only my first day here and I made us late. The morning started horrible and I spent the first few hours, vomiting and groaning on the bathroom floor. Michael stayed until I was okay despite being ready before me. I told him to go on. That I'll be okay but he didn't listen to me. Mich

Just as I was about to leave the office after working overtime, I received a call from Alexia. Picking it up, it was actually Luis who called and she said that somebody had broken into, and trashed, Alexia's apartment. I was baffled. Alexia's apartment had good security so, how could this be? I sighed as I looked at the numbers nearing Alexia's floor and prayed to the greater being above that she was okay. The bell of the elevator made my heart jump and I pushed past the sliding doors before they could fully open. I felt more anxious at the sight of two police officers standing outside the apartment. Some of the neighbours stood in front of their doors as they looked at the scene in worry and curiousity. I quickly spotted Luis because the red dress that she wore stood out from the colours ahead of me. She held Alexia's hands while she

Michael and I had got back a few days ago and we were back on schedule the very next day. To be honest, I felt like we took too many leave days this month and I was slightly embarrassed for taking advantage of them. I was happy to have talked with my parents and caught up with them. I was especially glad over how close Michael and my father had gotten over the short period of time that we were there. They spent most of their time together and the only time that Michael and I could properly enjoy each other's company was when it was time for bed. I found it quite amusing since my father wasn't very interested in befriending the people around me. He was a little judgmental towards others and used intimidation as a respect route since he was a short man. Despite that, he had a warm heart and I loved him to bits. My mother tal
