Chapter 3

Hayden POV

Having sneaked out of school this morning during the first class to attend an urgent meeting Skye, my beta had urged me to attend through a mind link. I sought to travel quickly to the packhouse. It was distant, roughly five miles, and I left quickly before any fucking human would notice.

Upon returning, the old baddie, the gatekeeper, caught me sneaking in. Fuck! My luck was not so good this time.

"Hey!" He called. I had to go to him.

"Did you sneak out?!" He asked, with furrowed brows.

"I didn't," I denied. His face changed, like he smelt something. Yeah, something, something like suspicious words.

"You did. If not, why do you appear now?" He asked. I was beginning to get irritated. I intuitively went to him. I maintained strong eye contact with him, while he stared into my eyes like a fool . Aiden, my wolf howled inside me. He wanted to control his mind, but that was not possible. I plunged my lips closer to his earlobes.

"It is consequent, do not tell on me," I said authoritatively.

"Uh, uhm…" he stuttered. Exactly like it, yes, like I always do! 

And the better part was, he was scared. Of course he has to be!

I was smirking when I whirled to head into the building before being caught by anyone else, just then, I felt my wolf stir-up. Darn, what's wrong? I glanced above my shoulder at the gatekeeper and he shuddered, disappearing into his office post.

"Aid, you better be a good boy. I'm not ready to tail with you in any mischief you're yearning to pull up." My wolf became quiet. I took a step forward but stopped as he stir again, goading me.

"Are you alright, Aiden?" I asked but he gave no answer. This time, I could feel he was troubled but I had no idea what was troubling him all 0f a sudden. I tried to move but was fixated,then letting out a growl which probably lead my eye to change, trying to tame Aiden who was become more restless. He grunted and I started walking, I suddenly stopped, that's when it filled my nostrils, the most inebriating scent. I spun, looking around but couldn't espy any one. Trailing the scent and mindly following Aiden's direction, I walked down my right, took a turn and headed to the school backyard. Reaching there, I groaned, clenching my fists when I saw her.

"MY MATE," I growled and Aiden echoed the same thing in my mind, excitedly. She was being held by two guys,whom I recognized as my classmates and just when the other guy, Jay, who was a real prick, held up the stick in his grasp to strike her, I spurted to him, grabbed the stick and stood in between.

He opened his mouth to say something but I swinged at him and he stumbled back, landing with his back on the ground. I glanced at my mate whose eyes were shut before casting a glare at the guys holding her.

They quickly glanced down at their supposed leader and let go off her before attempting to attempt me but they're just insignificant humans. I struck them with the stick then,sensing Jay coming behind to face me, I spun and dealt with him. After bringing him down with an arm throw, they ran off. I took a step to go after them and rip off their head for bothering my mate but stopped. I walked up to my mate who was staring at me. She looked so innocent, staring non-guiltily as I stood. Her sparkling cyan coloured eyes stared gentily, and they bore into the depth of my soul. Aiden began feeling unsettled, sending so many thoughts to my mind, like I should possess her this instant. Her hair was dark brown, and curled down her cheeks, while strands hung down her face.

"Are you okay?" I asked, no reply. She seemed lost. I held her hand, leaving her a little but off balance. She gasped.

"Uh, sorry," I said, after feeling the shock that extended through the movement of her arm and asked again.

"Are you okay?" She nodded, probably a response to my earlier question.

After asking if she was hurt and she said she wasn't then thanked me, I heard someone hollered her name. Kathrina, what a lovely name. The guy whom I know was in grade ten. He ran up to us with another girl who seemed to be his sister. I bet they were twins because they looked alike.

And, before I could utter a few words to my beloved mate, the guy and they stood her up and took her away. I restrained myself from going after them and grabbing my found mate.

I heard the school bell jingle and headed into the building.

When school hours were over, I went out and hid behind a post beside the school. I made sure I was off prying eyes, and didn't want to be seen mostly by those annoying bitches who rub all over me and irritatingly request I come over for a party with them,invite them over to my house or spend some time with them. I really wished Rayana was around. She's my little sister and she definitely would be glad to scare the bitches or command them to do something nasty which will be pleasing to her. Rayana is always crazy and silly. Unfortunately she hasn't been in school throughout last week. She has decided to stay in the pack house for two weeks and do some nasty stuff with Skye.

So I waited impatiently for my mate and

when I saw her coming out through the gates, talking with a girl. I glanced at the twins who took her earlier,ahead of them, talking with two other girls and put on my hoodie before I went on to trail her. I wanted to know where she stayed.

I trailed her to a certain point and stopped. She must have sensed me following her and when she looked back, I darted into the trees. I was about to continue my mission after she looked forward and walked on with her friend but stopped when the mindlink opened.

"Hayden, you're not in the packhouse yet?" Skye asked me through the mindlink.

"Nope. I'll be there soon."

"You need to get here soon. I'm waiting in your office.its quite urgent." I huffed and cut off the mindlink. Things usually pop up at the wrong time. Ever since I became an alpha,my life has completely changed. Being an alpha,I have to cope between schooling and handling my pack. It's been stressful but I'm glad I've got Skye, my friend, my beta and he usually takes on some work he can handle in my absence.

I walked out from the trees and peered at my mate far ahead. Maybe I should return to the packhouse. I'll get Skye to find her house for me later if I'm not lucky enough.

I rushed back to where I had parked my Jeep, behind the school and climbed in. I started the jeep and started driving towards the entrance of the town. Reaching there,I took a turn right and drove to the forest before pulling down and getting off. I didn't want to drive into the packhouse. I took a five minutes walk through the forest before reaching the border of the pack. Upon seeing me, the five wolves I had reassigned to watch over the border jumped out and paid their respect to me.

As I walked into the packhouse, I scolded Aiden. While I was driving here,he had been acting up and seemed unsettled. When I had reached the entrance of the town he almost lurched forward, trying to fight for control. He wanted to go back and trail my mate. I bet he doesn't understand that duty called and since I'm the alpha now, duty comes first.

"Someone sent a basket of red apples as a gift for you,"Skye told me, the moment I walked into my office. I glanced at the wrapped basket of apples on my desk and went over to my seat behind. I slumped on my seat before catching a glimpse of a note attached to the basket.

"Who sent it?" I asked before I hung down my head in an unenthusiastic slouch.

"A pack warrior from the Black Moon Pack," Skye answered and I flicked him a stare before darting my eyes to the basket.

"You didn't attend the coronation of the new alpha of the Black Moon Pack last week." I squinted at Skye and jerked up to my feet. I grabbed the note attached to the basket and read out:

'Hey, Hay! Been doing good, I guess. Hope you'll be glad to see me? Live well till then. I'll be coming for you.' 

My eyes darted to Skye.

"Is it…"

"Rylan? Yes. He is the new alpha of the pack," Skye told me. I felt a bit upset after hearing him say that.

"He had finally fought and defeated his greedy uncle,the previous alpha, Dax. And,"Skye paused and I growled, urging him to go on.

"I think him coming won't be good.He probably is like to seek revenge and at worst...declare war." I sighed and sat down.

"So?"

"I heard he has been mobilizing his pack and most especially his gammas."

"You think they will be engaging in an upcoming war with a rival pack?"

"I doubt. But, I think he is going to declare war against the pack."

I arose and straightened my hoodie.

"I'm going to change." I made for the door and held the door knob, stopped and whirled.

"Skye?"

"Yes?" He answered, turning to face me.

"I'm not scared of any war. And I know, Rylan is not likely to declare war. Don't worry. If he loathes me for what happened...then it's fine. I'm the alpha and I will protect the pack."

"So," Skye said as I opened the door. "Should I order the wolves watching the border to not let Rylan in if he drops by?"

"No, don't. He would create a scene if they try to stop him and you know they will be no match for him and...neither will you, skye.He's an alpha now." Skye nodded and I left.

I walked up to my room and went in to take a quick shower. I came out a few minutes later with a tower wrapped round my waist. I was a bit surprised to see Rayana going through a boom on my study table.

"What're you doing, Raya?" I asked her and she turned to face me with her usual nasty smile.

"Just going through a book."

"You've got no manners. You just walked in."

"And you just left the door open,"she said and slumped on my bed making me growl.She growled back at me daringly and smirked. I headed to my closet.

"You're resuming school tomorrow,"I told her.

"No ways.Next week, I will," she said and I glanced above my shoulder at her before shaking my head.

"You came quite late. What were you up to?"

"It's none of your business." I flicked her a glare and she giggled as I put on my shirt.

"I bet you were looking out for your mate. By the way did you find her?"

I walked up to her and grabbed her arm then stood her up.

"Hey, I just asked a question..."

"Don't try anything funny now. I'm in no mood for your chit chat. When I find my mate, you'll be the last to know." I smirked and she frowned, jerking off her arm from my grasp then headed for the door. I closed the door after she left before sinking into my bed. I need to think now.
