RYLAND POV.
"You're going to get yourself killed" Lexis's voice permeated the quiet room like the bad omen it was and I frowned, hating that my sister had no faith in my ability to do whatever it was I set my mind to."I'm going to secure my future and that's all Lexis, just do as you're told and everything will come into place" I sneered and I could feel her glare digging through my back.Lexis scoffed, moving around me until we stood face to face. "Jade will kill you! Are you fucking listening to me? She wouldn't blink twice before she does it. You're the only family I fucking have. I don't want to lose you to that witch" she cried and I grabbed her arm, shaking her a little."Get a grip Lexis, I might act all dumb, but you shouldn't be so stupid to believe that I actually am. I do all those things so Jade doesn't suspect a thing about my plans" I let go of her, and she watched me, a stunned expression on her face. "Jade is a freaking crazy bitch but I'm crazier than she'll ever be and if you think for one second that I'm gonna let some girl take my place, you've got another thing coming. I already have a plan on how to put an end to her menace".Lexis gaped, her mouth falling open before she forced herself to swallow and shut it."Wow! I must admit you had me fooled too, but Jade is smart, she'll know something is up"."The only way she'll know is if you tell her, and I know you won't, because if you do and something bad happens to me, you're going to serve under her, and make no mistake about it, she's going to treat you like a piece of shit. Do you want that little sister?"Lexis shook her head vehemently. "No, I don't. I want you to take over. She's not even part of this family, she wasn't supposed to show up in our lives and mess everything up"."Well she did, and regardless of what we say or what we feel, she is a part of the family, father's blood runs through her veins""But he doesn't love her"."Don't be fucking stupid Lexis" I snapped, hating that she was so fucking naive. "Do you think he's mean to her because he hates her, of course, bloody not! He's doing that to make her exactly like him. He wants to hand over to someone as ruthless as him, and that's why he does everything to make her a hardened cold-blooded killer. It's us he doesn't give a fuck about because he thinks we're sore losers, we can't even complete a simple task of killing traitors". The thought of it and saying it made me feel vile. I was so done with seeking his approval when it was a losing battle. He was nicer to us, but that was because he didn't give a shit about us. I'll make him give a shit, but by then it would be too late.Lexis's eyes followed my agitated movement across the room. "You're right. I never thought about it in that manner before"."You better start using your brain little sis, or you'll find yourself in a body bag before you even get a chance to blink. Are you going to do it or not", I asked, walking up to her until we stood an inch apart, her face tilted so that she could stare into my eyes. She inhaled deeply then nodded. "I'll do whatever you want me to do big brother. I just want Jade out of our lives"."And you'll get your wish," I whispered in her ears as I pulled her into a hug. Lexis held onto me tightly and I kissed her forehead. "Just make sure you put this into our father's drink before I get back," I said, slipping the bottle between her white pale palm. Her finger wrapped around the object testing the weight, and for a minute, I thought she was going to let it drop onto the tiled floor. I smiled when she clutched at it. "I'll handle everything else when I get back"."I trust you. I'll do everything to make you Don big brother. Jade is never going to take your seat".I smiled, patting her silky smooth brown curls. "That's my baby girl. I'll be the greatest Don ever, and I'll take care of you just like mother wanted me to"."I know, and I'll always be by your side" she promised and I could feel her smile against my skin. Everything was slowly coming into place while Jade was none the wiser. I was going to take her down and I was going to do it in style.*******Jade was angry. I didn't meet her at the stipulated time, so we were an hour late. But it was all a ploy. I was the dumb stupid one and I wasn't expected to follow the rules so that was exactly what I did. Jade had a nose for sniffing out traitors but I was in a league of my own. I outsmarted even my father, too bad he'll only figure it out on his death bed, that was if Lexis had the gut to push through with our plan, and if Marion Don Telli kept his word about being on my side."If I didn't know better, I'd think you were plotting something against me, Ryland." Her voice made me jolt in my seat and I turned to face her. She was regarding me with a stare that made me fidgety but I had come too far to back down."I'm always scheming on how to overthrow you, Jade, you should pay a little more attention to me. You never know, I might really hit you where it hurt" I said with a smirk, even tho my heart was thrumming erratically against my ribcage.Jade faced the road, her wrist flexing on the wheels. "I don't doubt that Ryland, I just have other pressing matters to worry about than to bother with you".Her replies were always condescending. She thought she was all that but I was going to show her who the real boss was. I was looking forward to seeing the horror on her face when I put a bullet in her ribcage, or maybe I shouldn't be so quick to kill her, I should have fun with her, drag out her suffering. The thought lightened my mood and I found myself smiling without meaning to."I am curious tho" she suddenly said, her voice crashing through the barrier of happiness that had wrapped around me. "I would really love to find out what you've had planned that's making you smile like the little rat you are".I smiled and met her gaze, throwing caution to the wind. "You'll find out soon enough"."I guess I will'' she said with a smile playing around her lusty-looking cherry-red lips that I'd fantasized about kissing on countless occasions. I hated her and I couldn't have her.She veered off the road, then drove along the trail that led into the Etral forest. Clouds rumbled overhead as we were swallowed by the tall trees that encompassed the forest. Jade turned on the headlight, cursing under her breath about the shitty weather. The other cars trailed behind, following our lead until Jade slowed to a stop. We all got out of the car, and the soldiers followed closely behind us, their weapons loaded and ready for any foul play.Jade looked like the queen of the night as she approached the men at the other end of the clearing. The darkness suited her, and between her crop black top and her tight leather jeans, her creamy skin seemed to shine like a beacon, teasing and tantalizing the sense of everyone who watched her.Marion's eyes met mine and I knew that he was going to help me. I also could tell Jade knew something was up."You brought way more men than necessary, don't you think Marion".Marion laughed. "In our line of business, you can never be too careful," he explained with a wave but I could tell that Jade was becoming more alert, which wasn't good because I needed her to let her guard down."Let's make this quick then. I want to see the package" she got out in a sharp voice that would make ordinary men jump, but not Marion. He was calm and collected."They're all in the boxes." He said with pride, then signaled two of his men. The two nodded, walked towards the boxes, and clicked them open. Jade inspected it, nodding as she took stock of the drugs and the arms each box contained.Marion signaled to me, and I turned to look at the men that had followed us, looking alert with their guns in hand. If we didn't attack now, it would be too late. I guess I won't get my chance of making her die a slow tortured death.I glanced back at Marion and gave a nod and then it was mayhem.Marion aimed his gun in her direction and fired rounds in succession.JADE POVFrom the corner of my eyes, I could see Marion signal Ryland. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up in dread. Marion was a fucking bastard. But It came as no surprise, I'd been feeling a bit skeptical about the whole meeting since I heard about the exchange. I had also underestimated Ryland and this was what it led to. He'd been suspicious on different occasions but I'd been so busy with my father's test that I had paid him no mind. Big fucking mistake.Marion reached for his gun and I grabbed one of his men closest to me, and in time too because he was suddenly firing at me and in such close range that the bullet went through the man I was using as my shield and grazed my skin. The soldiers started firing at each other as I pulled out my gun, aiming at the man that tried to kill me after countless years of doing business together. I fired two times, but he managed to duck out of the way in time. Pushing the dead body off me, I fired sporadically and ran into the
DEARIL POV*******"This is the end for you witch, I suggest you stop if you want a painless death," I said in a cold voice and the witch turned to face me as she stood at the edge of the cliff, her eyes darting around and over the other wolves that surrounded her."I did nothing but serve the pack. I don't deserve to die for it. I was told I'll be safe if I kept to the east of the forest"."You broke that pact when you killed one of the pack member's pups and those humans who got lost in the forest for your damned rituals" I roared and bared my teeth, the rage that had clouded my brain at discovering the dead pup growing in my chest until it threatened to burst out in mayhem."I killed those humans because they broke the law, they came into Etral to desecrate it, and they trespassed a land that wasn't theirs, as, for the pup, I tried my best to save him. I'll never go against the pack who sheltered me when I needed one" she answered with her head held high, no ounce of fear in her cl
Stabbing the big burly grey wolf was definitely a mistake, one I didn't quite think through before I went ahead with it. The animal's full attention was on me, and I took a step back as it stalked toward me, its bright glowing golden eyes holding mine captive. Its fangs were terrifying as it snarled, and the sound of it rumbled through my skin, causing goosebumps to trail up my spine, even though I tried to project no fear. Was this even real, there was no way that a normal wolf was this big. Was this the feral breed of wildlife they were talking about? This was not how I envisioned spending my night. Fighting crappy humans who took me for a damsel in distress? Yes. Fighting a big bad wolf who could rip me to shreds in one bite? A capital NO. My life could not end like this. If I got out of this mess, Ryland was going to pay. He was going to pay with his fucking life. The wolf took another step in my direction, teeth snapping, his mane of grey soft hair standing to attention as it
DEARIL POV.The soft skin draped over my shoulders warmed my skin, her pheromones wrapping around my heart with vice. It made me angry and calm, all at the fucking same time. My wolf was definitely enamored with her or was it me? It was hard to tell, but that was the only way I could explain what had happened earlier. I still couldn't believe it, but I'd morphed into a man without my wolf tearing me apart, or me killing my brother and my father. I had been able to pause despite the blood lust that coursed through my veins. It was fucked up, and I couldn't explain why my wolf wasn't snapping in anger as usual. He hadn't even wanted to hurt the girl after she'd stabbed him. There was something about her and as I dropped her onto the bed, I couldn't help but take in every outline of her. Her shoulder-length jet-black hair was wet, and mud stuck to some of its strands, her eyebrows were dark, with small scars lining the edges of them from cuts, bruises marred her pale cheeks and I could
JADE POV.His eyes were dark as death. That was the first thing I noticed as he slammed me into him, his rigid muscles rippling against my skin, the proximity unfamiliar.Blood dripped from the cut where he held the sharp pointed metal that I'd have used to end his life. He'd known exactly where I was going to attack from and I found it uncanny since I was perfect in silently waiting for my prey and attacking swiftly before they even had a chance to defend themselves. Most of them never even saw my face before they died, all they saw was the flash of my blade, so as I stared at the mountain of a man, who I had to admit was even more ruggedly handsome under the glow of the dimly lighted chandeliers, his eyes being the most captivating of his features-they promised heaven and hell all at a glance, I didn't know what to make of him. "That was not a very nice move to make" he murmured, his voice a dark rumble that sent tingles sprinting down my spine.Fuck him. "We should start over. I p
JADE POV.*****He was drunk again. Heavy footsteps thudded up the stair and I cowered in the dark closet, my hand clenching harder on the kitchen knife I held. Sweat beaded, then trickled down the side of my face. My stomach grumbled in protest, as it should have since I hadn't eaten for two whole days. He was the one who fed us, but I hated him showing up. It was much quieter when he wasn't around. But it also meant no food to eat for days, except if mother met a new customer. I wet my patched lips, my ears pressed against the wall. They were fighting again, and their voices were getting louder."Where is that little piece of shit! She can't continue feeding off my hard-earned money without earning her keep!" He roared, flinging the table against the wall. The shattering glasses made me wince and I clutched the knife tighter."You have to stop, Franco! I already took her to her real father, she is no longer living with me. I earn my keep for us, isn't that enough" she yelled and th
DEARIL POV She dared try to run from us and now she was pointing a gun to our head, a cocky look on her pretty face that had my wolf snarling.I'd listened to her try to get away, my wolf pushing for me to go after her, but I wanted the thrill of the chase, I wanted her to think that she could get away from me, from us, when in reality she couldn't. I'd taken her for myself, and I was going to keep her come rain or shine, and if she ever tried to leave again, well then, I'd have to introduce her to the darker side of me.Jade stared at me challengingly, her gaze unwavering and her hold on the gun straight and steady. She was cute to think that the gun was a threat to me but I would humor her. "Drop the toy Jade" I ordered, giving her a chance to redeem herself, but instead, with a little sneer of defiance, she tightened her grip on the trigger."How about you crawl back into your little hole like the mutt you are, Dearil".Her mouth was filthy. No one spoke to an Alpha that way and
RYLAND POV.Roaring in anger, I flung the glass I held in my hand against the wall, my chest heaving erratically. Jade was not here and yet it was a freaking battle to get everyone to respect and obey me. I'd done everything, killed, tortured, and maimed, but yet, they kept asking for her and saying all sorts of shit about how I was unfit to lead, and they also suspected that I had something to do with my father's death. That wasn't far-fetched because I did, but they'll never catch me, I'll kill each one of them before they got to me. I smirked, thinking about all the blood I'd already shed in just a few days of taking over the syndicate. The door to my office opened and Simone stepped through the door, his gaze weary."Shut the door behind you," I said and he obliged. "Well, did you find her body"?"I'm sorry boss, but we've spent days scouring the forest and..." He paused, looking caught in the headlight as he struggled to find his next words. "The Forest seems to be a haunted maz
