I hadn’t set foot in my cousin’s mansion in close to three years, and I remembered why, as we drove through the gates. Where our home was warm and inviting looking, keeping with the original house our father had built for Absinthe and I, Korin’s was clinical.

The sweeping grounds were bare of any kind of shrubbery, or plant. Just an expanse of manicured lawns and gravel. The front of the mansion, while gothic in style, didn’t have the elegance ours did. I could see the plastic and concrete from a mile away.

Pulling up to the front stairs, I turned in my seat and looked back to the pair of women in the back seat.

Maddison, Tony’s pretty fledgling, had taken to sitting quite close to Marley, and although I was grateful for the woman’s protection of our human hunter, I worried if she could keep her calm around the scent of fresh blood, because I couldn’t. Not when it came to Mars… all I wanted to do was to s

We walked into the huge conference room, and Marley sat in a chair, offered by my cousin. While Korin walked to the other side of the room, to another, larger chair, I helped Mars with hers, before taking up position, just to the side and back of her.As Korin sat, his eyebrow rose. Yeah, he’d be wondering why I was standing behind a human. He licked his lips, “Please cousin, sit.”“I’m fine from here.” I replied, my hands going behind my back and I took up th

Sitting in the comfort of the car on the way back from the motel, Rhayden turned to me from the front seat and raised an eyebrow, “So are you going to tell me why you stirred up someone like Korin?”I smiled, feeling like a queen with what had happened, and I looked at Maddison by my side, who smiled and nodded. Turning my attention back to Rhayden, I lifted my chin, and answered him. “While I was stirring up Korin, Maddi was hacking into his databases.”Rhayden looked from me, to the female vamp by my side and back, his eyebrows furrowing together, an incredulous look coming over his features. “What?”Maddison nodded, “Marley thinks there is something connecting Lord Korin and the Mated killings, to Vince. And she wanted me to snoop into his files.”I watched as Rhayden looked at Tony, his eyes wide. “Did you know they were planning this?Tony looked at him, pursing his lips. “Yes sir.”Thinking he would approve of my actions, I sat there, like the cat who ate the canary…Boy was I w

It had been one thing I had tried not to do in front of these practically immortal beings—show my human side, especially crying. But there, on the edge of the desert in Vegas, I stood in the arms of a vampire; hundreds of years old; and cried… like the weak human woman I was.“Mars… I’m sorry.” Rhayden held me to him, his hand smoothing over my back, as I lay my head against his chest. “I’m not just angry with you… I’m angry Abe still sent you here, knowing what Korin was like. I saw the way he looked at you, the way he wants you and I’m pissed off Abe can’t understand how much danger he’s put you in.”There he was. The creature which worried for me, not the one who constantly riled me up, because he liked my spunk.Rhayden let me go and pushed me back a little, looking down at me. “And then you go and do something so stupid as to hack into Korin’s archive

I shouldn’t be so pissed with her… but fucking hell. What the hell was she thinking? If Korin knew Maddison had hacked into his archives, no one would be able to stop the asshole from taking his revenge. Not with who his father was…I stomped through the desert, away from the human woman who had my heart, and into the night. If I stayed near her, I’d say… or do something which I would regret. Like drain her dry… I was itching to taste her blood. To feel her fire, to drown in the ambrosia, which was her life force, it was making my nature a little feral.Somewhere in the night, a phone rang and I sighed, stopping and sat on a giant boulder, pulling the device from my pocket and looked at the flashing screen.Great.Abe.Shutting off the phone I knew I was playing with fire, when it came to my brother. While time had calmed him a little… I knew it wouldn’t take much for him to lose his shit complet

As I pushed open the door, stepping inside the hotel room, the scent of rotting blood assaulted my nose and my gun was in my hand, before the light switch even came on. As the room was flooded with harsh light, my gaze moved to the figure standing in the middle of my hotel room.“Well, hello Miss Brennan.”Korin James stood in the middle of the room, his grin alarming, in the light. The pistol in my hand rose and I levelled it at him, as he took a step toward me, as if I wasn’t a threat. “What the fuck are you doing in my room?”The vampire’s gaze lowered to my body, and I felt it travel over my figure, as if covering me in a thick layer of ooze. The thought to run to Tony and Maddison, or to scream, coming to mind, but I knew it would be easier and quicker to shoot this asshole in the head and deal with the aftermath later. Why the fuck had I sent Rhayden away so quickly? If he were here, then this would be a whole lot

Fuck… there it was.Rhayden had warned me about snooping into Korin’s archives, of what might happen. I had just hoped it would have taken him a bit longer before he realized we’d been in there. Enough time to find something. Anything. But we hadn't been able to even peek... “We needed information.”“What kind of information?”“The kind you wouldn't give willingly.” I replied and his eyes paled back to brown, mouth closing over his fangs. He sat back against the chair, adjusting his jacket as he stared at me, as if waiting for me to continue… so I did. “We needed to know what you were doing. See if there was any link between you and Vince. With you and the Mated being slaughtered.”“And why would there be a link?”“There are too many factors which are similar. Same brand of extinguisher, same method of death, even the same flites in the arrows. What would yo

It had taken everything in me not to have sprayed Marley’s hotel room with Korin’s thick, putrid blood. How fucking dare he be in her room without permission. I didn't give a fuck that he owned the hotel, or half the buildings in the street. He had been told my hunter was off limits.I could have handled the snide remarks, as I had warned him away from her the night before, or the mentions of his sleazy antics towards Marley… but to find her one swipe of his claws away from death… to have him to close to her, that he could have leaned in and kissed her... that had been one step too far. When I had asked Rhayden to leave Vegas, the only other option was to be there myself

Absinthe gripped my hips, allowing me to rock against him. The pleasure built, his hands tightening on my hips and my orgasm peaked. Throwing back my head back, I cried out. “Abe!”He sat up, bringing me closer to him. I tipped forward, allowing him to grip my ass and lift me a little, ramming into me. Fangs nipped at my throat, heightening the pleasure, before he sealed them with a stroke of his tongue. Then he bit down, drawing a mouthful of blood, before raking his tongue over the marks again, his voice thick with lust as he moaned my name. “Marley.”My orgasm built again, my clit rubbing against hard, cool abs. “Abe…”He flipped us, rising above me, slamming his hips against mine, the bed shuddering with every inhuman thrust. My arms lifted and I reached out not for him, but for the headboard, holding it hard, as Abe’s thrusts became wild. His mouth lowered, biting the edge of my breast. Tender flesh yi

You know why I didn’t want to tell you about Johan, or where he was. It’s not the fear of you leaving Marley. Honestly, I could live with that, to know you are safe…” He opened his eyes, his irises almost white and I heard the pain and anguish in his voice. “It’s the fear of him taking the one thing—which is worth more to me, than my own immortality. That is what scares me.”My hand reached out to him, and I gripped his hand in mine, squeezing it. “As much as I want to be angry with you, I understand why you did it. “Abe?”Absinthe slowly lifted his eyes, looking at me. “I was wondering when you would get here.”I closed the door to the library, and leaned against it, looking at my dark-haired lover. He looked sad. Lost almost and I sighed, walking over and sat next to him. We didn’t speak for a few minutes. His gaze couldn’t hold mine… that’s when I understood, and my heart broke into a million pieces. “You knew about Johan and Johnathan.”“Yes.”He knew… I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “Why didn’t you tell me?”Absinthe’s bottom lip trembled, “Because I knew you would have a one-track mind about it. It had been twenty-four hours since the trial, and while things should have been feeling fairly normal… something was niggling in the back of my mind. Something didn’t feel right.I hadn’t seen either Absinthe or Rhayden tonight, but I knew I would probably have Rhayden between my legs any time—“Hey, what are you doing?”I looked up at Rhayden, seeing him standing at the door, arms crossed over his chest. He still sported the remnants of the braids I’d done the night before, and I smirked, returning my attention to the device in my hands. “Recovering from your brother.”“Was he rough with you Mars?”There was not an inkling of concern in this ass’ voice, and I rolled my eyes at him, flipping him off, which earned a chuckle. After Absinthe had fucked me three times, and sent me insane with pleasure, we’d laid quietly and not spoken. I had been drained, not only mentally,

I waved to Othello as his entourage took him out of the mansion grounds to a hotel owned by our kind, which would house him and the other coven leaders for the rest of the night. There was no fucking way I wanted them in my mansion any longer. It had been a rough night. There were moments where I thought I would have to fight Mathias, or tear my brother off him. But in the end, justice prevailed and Marley was safe.Speaking of Marley.I turned and walked back into the mansion, seeking out her scent.I knew she would be with Rhayden. Hopefully not impaled on him again. That, I had only just barely tolerated. While I knew they fucked, I didn’t want to see it.There.Turning to one of the four parlors in the lower halls of the mansion, I stopped at the doorway. Marley was sitting a small armchair, Rhayden at her feet and she was… was she braiding his hair?I chuckled as the pure bliss on my brother’s fac

The vampire at the end of the table had everyone’s attention. Even his so-called supporters stared at him as if he had just sacrificed a small child in their presence.Mathias sat down and leaned back in his chair, looking at us all. “It wasn’t Johnathan.”Wasn’t…? this guy was just so fucking negative. What the actual fuck?“It was. I saw the tatt—”“It wasn’t.” Mathias snarled, crossing his arms over his chest. “It was his brother. Kendrick didn’t like the fact his brother had been slaughtered by Absinthe.”“I did not slaughter him. He attacked me.” Abe spat and Mathias rolled his eyes.“Whatever. Kendrick said Absinthe had no right to ruin his family’s legacy like he had. Johnathan’s final wish was to destroy his own coven, kill out the bloodline. He never liked the fact he was a vampire. Never accepted what he

You could have heard a pin drop in the room… well, you could only hear my breathing, and I thought that worse. Why the fuck did I have to be surrounded by dead things?“Mathias, you called this trial, I call for you to make the opening address.”My attention turned to the man at the end of the table. Surrounded by other vampire coven leaders, Mathias tried to look impressive as he stood. But in reality, I could see what a weak creature he really was, and I wondered if he had been like this when he had been human; because I could tell with the fang marks on his neck, he wasn’t born a vampire like my lovers.Mathias leaned forward, his knuckles going to the table as if to be intimidating, and glared at me. “This human, killed one of my Senior Coven, without evidence of any wrong doing on my member’s behalf. She needs to be punished for it. And I would gladly punish her if you cannot.”He was kidding, right

I walked beside Marlene, Rhayden on her other side, as we moved through the quietened mansion toward the library and to her fate. This was going to be a shit show.I could feel it in my bones.Never in the history of the vampire nation, had a human stood trial for killing a vampire. They were usually dealt with quicker than this. Slaughtered, or drained of their blood, or left in the wilds to die. This whole situation was unheard of and the fact it was happening to our human, set my teeth on edge. This could go one of two ways.Marley would be found not-guilty, in which she would be free and we would be able to continue on how we had been.Of she would be found guilty and her life would be forfeit; and I would not be okay with that. This meeting could potentially be the death of my beautiful lover, and I had to decide if I would stand for it.Would I allow Othello end Marlene’s life? No. I knew I wouldn’t.An

My heart fluttered. God damn it. Again?I hated serum so fucking much. My head pounded, and my eyes slowly opened.Absinthe and Rhayden were leaning over me, their hair curtaining their beautiful faces. I smiled, reaching up and stroked their cheeks, my touch melting the tension from their features as they looked down at me.“My boys…”“Marley.” Absinthe cooed, leaning down. He gently pressed his lips against mine, before Rhayden did the same.“We thought we’d lost you Mars.”“I’m not going anywhere just yet.” I smiled, moving to sit up and Absinthe helped, propping pillows behind my back.Rhayden smiled, looking to his brother as he climbed from the edge of the bed. “I’ll go tell Othello she’s awake.”Absinthe nodded, turning back to me as Rhayden closed the door. “You left a dead Lycan on Othello—”
