(Kai's Point of View)

The setting around me was glamorous. The grass was lush and the sky was blue.

"Kai!"

I veered around at the sound of my name to a figure standing miles away from me. A smile crept to my lips as I waved.

I didn't know who the person was as I couldn't see his face clearly from that far yet my heart was soaring with fervor and mirth. My heart seem to know who it was.

Then, he was coming toward me, closer and closer to the point I could finally see his face, however, the more he got nigher, I realized he was withering.

My heart suddenly ailed and my hand reached out. I wanted to walk forward but my feet were embedded where I stood. "No!" I cried out. I didn't realize my eyes were simmering with tears till I felt my cheeks getting wet as I watched him vanish till there was nothing left of him but dust that evaporated to the sky.

Suddenly, the background changed and the sky grew dark and I found myself in front of a burning fire, spreading quickly and wild while I was

(Cameron Point Of View)"How long do you plan on keeping me here?" Rhys abruptly inquired, lying in my bed while I was reading a script on my study table. I swiveled to him. "I am? Because it feels like I'm the one entertaining and being pragmatic to you than you being useful to me,"He tsked. "So you want me to leave, is that it?"I immediately shook my head. "Of course not! I like your company. It doesn't feel so barren with you here,"I watched him roll his eyes before he was sitting up and dropped his legs to the floor. "I'm bored human and I need something else to regale me," his golden eyes looked so sharp.I stood up and approached him. "Let's go to a clu-" I instantly halted as I realized the words coming out of my mouth. I couldn't be seen in a club for any reason. "The club is a big no," I tapped my chin, thinking. "Oh, I know! I've always been dying to visit this restaurant that makes great food,""Great, let's go," Rhys was already on his feet and leaving through the doo

[Kai’s point of view]As the day grew darker and fewer people were coming in, it had been hours since Ralph and Rhys left. I headed to Cameron's table for the fifth time. He gave me a smile that made me want to squirm. Although genuine, his smile was unsettling, and the fact that he hadn't stopped grinning made it even more unsettling. Didn’t his cheeks hurt from smiling? If I smiled that much, my muscles would be begging for mercy."Do you want me to refill it?" I pointed to his fourth cup of coffee. “It appears your date isn’t going to show up anytime soon,”I saw him pout as he took out his phone and looked at the time. “It’s getting so late, I wonder what’s keeping them so long,” he fluttered his eyes at me. "Sit with me for a little bit?"Before settling into the chair across from his table, I took a quick look around the restaurant. He grinned. “Would you like to discuss anything in particular?” I could keep him entertained for a while."Yes, tell me about Ralph; you mentioned

[KAI’S POINT OF VIEW]I abhorred being ill. It made me feel so useless and, more importantly, it caused me to lose money because I was unable to work while I was ill; Reuben would not let me enter that restaurant until he was certain that I had recovered fully; and I was also unable to attend school, which left me all alone.I couldn't recall the last time I was sick, but Ms. Charlie was there to help, and at this moment, I was confronted by a clumsy being who had the barest idea of what he was doing or what he was supposed to do.Ralph was sitting on the bed next to me as I was tucked in and shivering like I had been drenched in the coldest water. He laid the back of his hand on my forehead and had a confused expression."You're on fire; what should I do?" his voice was panicked as he stood up from the bed, pacing from one corner to tIf I hadn't been so ill and unsure of what to do at the time, I probably would have laughed. As I previously stated, I detested being sick because it m

[KAI’S POINT OF VIEW]Anxiety! As I—we, the entire student body—waited for the school day to end, anxiety happily devoured every nerve in my body.As Ralph and I entered the school’s cafeteria, all eyes turned to us. I tried to shrink myself by allowing Ralph's larger body to frame me, but their eyes followed my every move, murmuring about how dead Ralph and I were. They were probably right. While I was being cut down by anxiety, the school was exploding with energy. It was only supposed to be a basketball game, but I could see the thirst for blood in their eyes as they watched us take up our seats. Felix was already there with his lunch. His gaze flitted between us. "The whole school is talking about the game; have you ever played basketball before?" he catechized, peering at Ralph, who shrugged.I sighed and rested my head on the table, stifled. Of course, the bastard had never played basketball before, but he accepted a challenge from the school's best player. How screwed up were

(KAI'S POINT OF VIEW)When Ralph and I got home from school, I threw my bag pack on the floor, grabbed his upper arms, and slammed his back against the door, trapping him with my hands on both sides of his head. His eyes flashed with surprise before settling into a smirk as they flicked down to my lips. "What's on your mind, baby?"I cringed hard but didn't withdraw. "What the hell happened back there, huh? I thought you said you could not play!" "You presumptively assumed I did not know how to play. I only said I had never played before." He shrugged, and I felt like punching him in the eye to get rid of his calm demeanor."How the fuck can you know how to play if you have never played before?" I grilled, and the question only added to my astonishment. Was that even possible?!He shrugged once more. "The only reason he scored those goals was that I was learning how to play. I'm a pretty fast learner."I snorted and took a step back, hands at my sides. "I consistently underestimate

(KAI'S POINT OF VIEW)I stood on the forest floor, wide-eyed, as a sudden fire erupted, burning everything in its path and rapidly approaching me. Every muscle in my body refused to cooperate when I tried to move; it felt like I was firmly planted in my stance.I stared back at the fire, gulping as it got nearer and nearer. I slammed my eyes shut, predicting to be radiated in the next split second as my heart began to race and my skin itches horribly as fear gripped my neck. However, after what felt like a minute of waiting, nothing happened. Instead, I felt warm fingers delicately caressing my face, and a tide of fervor unravel throughout my body.Sluggishly, my eyes opened, then broadened at the sight of a familiar face."Ralph." Every part of him was glaring, and behind him, the forest burned to the ground and at the call of his name, he met my eyes and his eyes were also catching in flames. I flinched and finally, I was able to attain control of my body and moved away from him.

[KAI’S POINT OF VIEW]Ralph seemed to be having a blast with his new prominence and title as the new popular kid and the best in everything, Kyrell Johnson was now a thing of the past, as everyone seemed to have forgotten about him - even his so-called friends were now shamelessly shadowing Ralph like some lost pooches. As much as I was happy that I was no longer the object of bullying, being with Ralph also warranted me some attention that I detested more than anything, but looking at Ralph across the table as he conversed with his new friends, gleaming and too luminous for his own good, he loved the attention, and it was causing aversion in my stomach.“Hey, You are wasting your food.”Felix's words heaved me out of my state of thought, and I looked down at the food on my tray, which was no longer edible with how many times I’d stabbed the poor burger with a fork. With an exhalation, I pushed the tray away from me, and Felix passed me an incredible and vague gaze. I poked my inner

(KAI'S POINT OF VIEW)Once I stepped out of the room, I went to the bar and got myself a drink. I ogled at the goldish liquid in the glass, already having second thoughts as its smell punctured into my nose without mercy and caused an aversion in my stomach.Deciding to man up, I shut my eyes and drowned the liquid into my system and when I opened my eyes, my vision was twirling in circles and an unnatural feeling surged up my chest.Damn. I didn't think the damn liquor was that strong enough to get me worked up with just a glass! Why was I drinking anyway?!"Hey, pretty." My vision was foggy. I tilted my head, trying to make out the face peering back at me but I got nothing, instead, my body swayed uncontrollably that he had to catch me by the arm."I'm fine, thank you." I gently pushed his arm away but staggered again and strived to balance myself with the counter. What the hell? Was this how being drunk felt like? If I was crapulous, why was I thinking rationally? {KAI’S POINT OF VIEW}It was a Friday, so I left work early, picked Rai up from school, and we went to the restaurant. Once I parked the car, Rai and I stepped out. We were on our way out the door when my wrist was suddenly grabbed, and I turned sharply to see Ralph covered in a hoodie and glasses over his eyes.I beamed, “Ralph."He removed his glasses and looked down at Rai, who was looking at him with interest. “Who is this?”“This is Rai, my son.”His eyes met mine too quickly as if he had been struck by lightning. The expression nearly tugged out a laugh from me but I held it back. “You are married?” he blurted out.I shrugged. "Well, I have gone through two lifetimes without you; who knows how I will fare in this one?" Two could play the game, and he fell for it as his eyes darkened and he yanked me close to his face by the arm. He knew how I felt; he duped me into thinking he did not know who I was.“You are getting a divorce," he grumbled."Not in the presence of the child, Ra

[KAI’S POINT OF VIEW]Two lifetimes, three lifetimes worth of memories—they felt like a weight was placed on my shoulders—ones that were occasionally too much for me to bear.I recalled every lifetime I'd lived and every second I'd lived without having a clue where to find Ralph. Every time I failed, it felt like a needle was being pressed into my heart. This was my third life and I was 25. In this life, I worked as an architect for a decent wage, owned a restaurant with Rhory and Keir, and lived in an apartment in the middle of the city. Keir and Rhory were fortunate to have reunited as soulmates. They probably kept my memories to make me realize how much I was losing and probably laughed at my face as I failed to find Ralph in the lifetimes I'd lived. I sighed, slammed my pen on the table, and stopped trying to figure out a building pattern. "Dad." I raised my head in response to the tiny voice and discovered a tiny head with silver locks poking through the door. In an instant,

{CAMERON’S POINT OF VIEW}When Rhys entered the studio, I fell into a daze. I could barely say a word as he assisted me in locking up the studio, escorted me to his car, and drove us to his penthouse. When we were in a close space and alone, I threw my arms around him tightly and cried on his shoulder. I did not want to let go, and then his arms softly wrapped around my hips and drew me closer to his body.I had no idea how long we had stood here before he began to withdraw and clutch my face. His golden eyes were fixed on my face, and his thumb stroked it lovingly. "What do you remember?" He grilled."Everything," I replied unequivocally. "And I'm sorry. You lost everything because of me." Just when I thought I was done crying, more streamed down my cheeks as my mind was flooded with new memories. Was this the reason, despite growing up in a loving home and being surrounded by people who loved me, that I had always felt empty and alone? I had never felt whole, and I could not quite p

  • INTERNAL SIN   Internal Sin: 097

[CAMERON'S POINT OF VIEW]Many, many years ago, there was a world where everyone had a soulmate; some were fortunate to have been paired with the right one, while others were unlucky.According to what I have read, it was not always like that. Everyone was happy with who they were paired with until there was some sort of imbalance in the system and things got out of hand, and people started getting paired with people they were not compatible with. Soulmates abused and killed each other, but not anymore. Soulmates were becoming increasingly rare in the world I grew up in, and nowadays anyone could be with whoever they wanted without having to wait and look for their soulmates. When soulmates realize they love someone else, they usually break their bond.Well, my name was Cameron, a small-time painter with my studio in the bustling big city, and I did not believe in soulmates.Having a soulmate was not necessarily a bad thing; it would be nice to fee

  • INTERNAL SIN   Internal Sin: 096

[RAI'S POINT OF VIEW]As golden guardians, it was our responsibility to protect humans and ensure that they were happy with their soulmates, regardless of their background. It was a crime for a golden guardian to look away from his assigned human, and most importantly, we did not fall in love. It was an internal sin that resulted in an internal penalty. I recall the moment I realized Kai was in love with a demon. It was when he stopped wearing that cold face that the hardness in his eyes seemed to fade. He was more carefree and careless, and he was willing to give up his title just to be with that demon. I was happy as long as he was happy, but only if that demon shared his feelings.Kai wept before having his wings torn off and receiving his punishment, I recalled. Although it was inhumane to watch him suffer from the blast of thunder every hour, it was the penalty for an internal transgression. It took Kai a century to finally be born as a soulless human. As his best friend, I tri

[KAI'S POINT OF VIEW]As I watched him fall, it was like my heart was ripped out of my chest. I threw away my sword, catching him in my arms before he touched the ground. He continued to choke on his own blood. "YOU IDIOT! I TOLD YOU I KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF MYSELF. I DO NOT REQUIRE YOUR FUCKING PROTECTION!!" I yelled and grabbed his wrist, hoping to share my energy, but he yanked it back. "What the heck are you doing? You are going to die!""It's f-fine." He replied in a wavering voice. "Death does not seem so bad after all," he tried to joke.If he wasn't dying, I would have strangled him to death myself. I grabbed his hand and transferred as much energy as I could, but the more I transferred, the more blood he choked out. "What's going on? Why is it not working?" Panic gripped me as I realized he was becoming weaker, paler, and fading."My body doesn't accept your powers. They are just too much to handle." I felt my whole body twitching. "But you are half angel. Your body, a ha

[RHYS' POINT OF VIEW]There were only a few enchanted stones in this world that could take the life of someone as powerful as my father, and one of them was the forbidden crystal. It was not easy to obtain one, and for a demon, obtaining one meant suffering the ultimate punishment of losing half his life span. It was only a matter of time before I died without my wings or a source of power to keep me alive, but even if I only had a few hours to live, Father was coming with me. Getting to the cemetery on foot was a difficult task since I normally use my wings or vanish to get to my destination. I grasped the stone in my hand despite the hideous mark it'd left on my palm from taking it from its resting place. The flashes of light and thunder ahead of me told me there was a battle going on; I walked faster. When I arrived at the scene, however, I abruptly paused on my feet just in time as Ralph lost his wings and Kai unleashed a powerful blast that destroyed everything in close range.

[RALPH'S POINT OF VIEW]"I'm sorry," I muttered weakly, looking into his eyes, hoping he would understand. "Perhaps you forget we are still here." Xavier snorted. Cameron's gaze was on Kai when I turned around, and he had a cunning look in his eyes and a smirk on his lips. I shielded Kai's eyes from his evil gaze, but I was gently pushed aside. "I'm not some damsel in distress. I don't need you to protect me. I can take him out myself." He glared.I couldn't help the tiny smile that occupied my lips as he pointed his sword at Cameron and Xavier. "Now, who wants a taste of my sword first?" I stood beside him. He gave me a side-eye. "After them, you're next." He gritted, and I would gladly accept his blade."What makes you think you are a match for me?" Cameron smirked. "Let’s not make this difficult for you, darling; give me what I want, and you can sleep peacefully without worrying about whether you are a human or a golden guardian. You can come to me willingly, or I will come to
